About Isadriewen Fage Llewellenar

"My dreams are my inspiration", whispered Isadriewen. The buyer looked on in wonder as the half-elf quickly layered vivid colors onto the canvas in broad strokes. An ornate stairway with a bejeweled rail descending from a palace of bronze began taking shape.

The man marveled at the flaming sea in the background. "This is no earthly scene. How can you know such a place?"

Isadriewen brushed on blue and green paints that began transforming into a draconic lizard, lazily wrapped around the bronze banister. A dash of fiery red gave the lizard diabolical eyes with the glint of intelligence. Eyes that regarded the viewer with an erie familiarity. "I've been haunted by these visions my whole life. I've never been there, yet I know it as well as my own land. I've made it my life's work to study this place."

Isadriewen turned and pointed at a recently finished painting hanging from the wall of her studio. A red skinned giant with fiery eyes held a scantily clad woman in one hand and a titantic scimitar in the other. A blue robed human mage bargained with the efreeti noble for the woman's life. "I believe the land is the elemental plane of fire. A land of death for the uninitiated, but for the prepared traveler, a land of undiscovered wealth and power."

Isadriewen, returning to the glistening canvas in front of her, brushed on tones of blue and ochre to add a galleon approaching the city of bronze from the smoking sea of fire. "The fabled City of Brass. It is burned into my dreams. I believe that I am destined to travel there to find my fate. May Shelwyn save my soul ... "

Appearance:

Isadriewen is tall with a lithe frame. She has high cheek bones and penetrating green eyes. Lustrous silver hair flows over her large, heaving breasts. Extensive tattoos artistically cover her exposed skin and reveal verdant scenes of orchids interwoven with dancing flames. She radiates an aura of creative energy and audacious vitality.

Personality:

Isadriewen is quick-witted, gregarious, thoughtful and studious. She is disciplined and driven to succeed. She is intellectually curious continuously seeking to expand her knowledge. Isadriwen is honest, caring, conscientious and loyal to her friends.

Life in Katapesh:

Isadriewen works in a small shop in the Nightstalls that inks tattoos and sells the paintings of local artists. Isadriewen uses the shop as both her studio and a front for selling her art. She spends the small hours each night painting at a table within the shop as her prospective buyers look on. For Isadriewn, life is art and art is her life.

Isadriewen specializes in painting the desert scapes of the central veldt. Her art often viscerally captures the brutal realities of life in Ketapesh - murderous rocs descending from the Brazen Peaks or blood stained gnolls marauding hapless slave trains. Often Isadriewen ventures into the desert seeking new inspiration for her work. She loves nothing more than depicting the ochre sands of her native land against the backdrop of Ketapesh's endless cerulean skies.

Isadriewen's art reflects her own experiences growing up in the desert as a child among fugitive slaves. Her mother was a concubine of one of Katapesh's notorious slave lords. Only in her later years would her mother discover her latent abilities as an oracle and would subsequently throw off the bonds of servitude. While living as a fugitive in the desert, her mother would meet her elven father - a traveling scholar, and prominent member of the Ekujae tribe, studying the Ketapesh's propensity for planar rifts. The family would spend Isadriewen's formative years living a semi-nomdic life on the burning wastes. Her parents would impress upon the young artist the simple beauties of the desert.

In her early teen years, Isadriewen's mother would mysteriously disappear without a trace. After months of futile search, Isadriewen's father would move his daughter to his home in Absalom. In Absalom, Isadriewn would begin to harness her inherit magical talents. She studied at local universities and specialized in merging sorcery with art. She would bring these talents with her when she returned to her homeland in her mid twenties.

Isadriwen now focuses solely on her art. She still travels to Katapesh's hinterlands to commune with the desert and to revisit the places of her youth, but most hours Isadriewen can be found in her studio among her fellow artists. There she paints and dreams. Often her paintings and dreams merge into one. Sometimes her paintings are of the burning city on the sea of flame. She often marvels at these persistent unearthly visions that come to her nightly. Can such a city of bronze truly exist? Who are the fiery entities that urgently whisper to her in alien tongues? What does it all portend? She knows that she must keep painting to decipher the meaning of her dreams. There on the canvas, the truth will be found in layers of ochre and cerulean...

Gnoll Killer:

While growing up in rural Katapesh with her fugutive mother and elven father, Isadriwen would often have to join her parents in fighting off the ever present gnoll maruaders. Isadriewen killed her first gnoll at a young age when a group of gnoll slavers attacked her desert home, and her hatred of gnolls has only grown since then. Though she lacks proof, Isadriewen passionately believes that the gnolls are responsible for her mother's disappearance. Isadriewen believes that somewhere, among the disparate gnoll tribes, her mother may still live.

Background:

Isadriewen is the daughter of a human oracle mother and elvish mage father. She was born and raised in Ketapesh until the mysterious disappearance of her mother. Isadriewen keeps a bronze locket with her mothers picture, of which she guards as the last remnant of her child hood.

After living in the deserts of the central veldt for years, Isadriewen would go on to live with her father at his summer home at Absalom, where she for the first time was introduced to books, music and the beauty of art. At this point she began manifesting arcane powers - earlier than anyone thought possible. Simultaneously she began experiencing visions of fiery city on an ocean of fire. Isadriewen's visions would lead Isadriewen to study the outer planes at Absalom University.

Isadriewen used her artistic skills primarily for self expression, but also to fund her studies. She would eventually go on to receive a doctorate and teach classes on the merging of art with the arcane. Though she spent many years in academia, she still considers herself an artist at heart.

Today, Isadriewen mostly focuses on her paintings and the latent meaning that lies within her art. Seeking answers to her dreams, Isadriewen often corresponds with artists and scholars whom share her interest in exploring the boundaries between dreams, the desert and the inner planes. She has many friends among prominent adventuring houses whom explore the desert - including the Pathfinder Society. Isadriewen respects the Pathfinder Society for their passion for knowledge and often contemplates if they can help her discover the meaning of her dreams.

Campaign Intro:

Isadriewen places a hand over her eyes to block the searing light of the mid day sun. The day is no time to travel in the desert. The ibex forages at night. The desert wren hunts only under the moon. And yet our guide leads us into the wastelands while the sun is still at its zenith. The price for such mistakes in the desert can be death. What do I know of Garavel? Can he be trusted?

Isadriewen scans the desert scape in front of her. The symmetry of the dunes is beautiful. No where in Golarion can dunes like this be found. If only I had my easel ... "

The half elf thinks back to the beginning of the journey. She had been looking for a guide to take her into the the wastes. Isadriewen was an artist and her muse was the desert. Her livelihood depended on finding new scenes to paint.

It was coincidental then that Garavel had stepped into her studio. He had feigned interest in her paintings before letting it be known his knowledge of the surrounding lands and his expertise as a guide. Perhaps her friends had shared her plans with him. Or perhaps the man had deeper designs for her. A man with an agenda was nothing new for Isadriewen.

Isadriewen was tempted to follow her instinctive wariness of strangers until the man described the Sultan's claw. The image of the giant tree rising against the backdrop of the endless sand dunes intrigued her. Such unique scenes were the stuff of great art. Perhaps this would be her masterpiece.

Isadriewen wiped a bead of sweat from her brow and sparingly sipped from her diminishing water skin. She used the moment to evaluate her traveling companions with an artist's eye. An armored fighter, a half orc priest, and two secretive humans. What possibly could have brought them into the desert. Hopefully they have better motives than your fool muse! Isadriewen smiled and then continued her slow, plodding march through the dunes.

Ahead, a claw shaped tree became visible in the wavering desert air. A mirage? No, this must be the tree. As Isadriewen's eyes came into focus she now saw the wagons in the distance. Something is burning! Isadriewen broke into a sprint.

The wind that pushed against her felt like a blast furnace. Burning debris pelted her and her traveling companions. Suddenly a cartwheeling harrow card came flipping at her and lodged itself in her exposed, heaving cleavage. Isadriewen pulled the card out. "It is the cyclone. It portends war and destruction. This is a dire omen!"

Isadriwen looks at the burning wagon and does not hesitate. Fire, my old friend, I've come to visit you again. She then moves to grab a blanket to help put out the flames. She attempts to organize the onlookers around her to assist in the effort. "Smother the flames! Quickly, before they spread!"

IoD:

"My dreams are my inspiration", whispered Isadriewen. The buyer looked on in wonder as the half-elf quickly layered vivid colors onto the canvas in broad strokes. An island beach with a monstrous dinosaur began taking shape. The tyrannosaurus rex chased several fleeing adventurers to the ocean edge.

The man marveled at the jungle covered mountain plateau in the background. "This is no land that I am familiar with. How do you know such a place?"

Isadriewen brushed on red, black and white paints that began transforming into a sea snake, lazily wrapped around a rock jutting from the sea. A dash of fiery red gave the snake demonic eyes with the glint of intelligence. Eyes that regarded the viewer with an eerie familiarity. "I've been haunted by these visions my whole life. I've never been there, yet I know it as well as my own land. I've made it my life's work to study this place and the abyssal plane that intersects with it across space and time."

Isadriewen turned and pointed at a recently finished painting hanging from the wall of her studio. A monstrous green skinned demon with two baboon heads and serpentine arms loomed epic over all manner of beasts rising from the ocean and descending from the sky. Both heads of the demon howled with unearthly fury. "The land is the 88th plane of the abyss. A land ruled by the legendary demon prince Demogorgon."

Isadriewen, returning to the glistening canvas in front of her, brushed on tones of brown and ochre to add a skiff approaching the beach with a sorceress casting a warding spell to stave off the dinosaur. "The fabled Isle of Dread. It is burned into my dreams. I believe that I am destined to travel there to find my fate. May Shelwyn save my soul ... "
