Line Work (Profession: Sailor): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Accustomed to hard work, Isabella puts her back into it, performing her daily duties as required and without comment, though she keeps an eye on her fellow riggers. At the end of the day, she is tired and her body hurts, but still has the energy to stand.

In running this one here on the boards, I stuck the info in the Campaign tab for ease of reference (current status of NPC relations, daytime actions, and nighttime actions). Just a suggestion.

On the other hand, under Environmental Rules, we find: If a character deliberately jumps instead of merely slipping or falling, the damage is the same but the first 1d6 is nonlethal damage. A DC 15 Acrobatics check allows the character to avoid any damage from the first 10 feet fallen and converts any damage from the second 10 feet to nonlethal damage. Thus, a character who slips from a ledge 30 feet up takes 3d6 damage. If the same character deliberately jumps, he takes 1d6 points of nonlethal damage and 2d6 points of lethal damage. And if the character leaps down with a successful Acrobatics check, he takes only 1d6 points of nonlethal damage and 1d6 points of lethal damage from the plunge. So you appear to be correct. (Emphasis mine.)

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/skills/acrobatics Falling: When you deliberately fall any distance, even as a result of a missed jump, a DC 15 Acrobatics skill check allows you to ignore the first 10 feet fallen, although you still end up prone if you take damage from a fall. Isabella studies the rigging and starts to make the climb, stopping after only a few feet. Climbing back down, she takes hold of the hem of her dress and rips it off to just above the knee. Discarding the strip of cloth that she has removed, she gives a scowl at Mr. Plugg and begins her ascent in earnest. Climb: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Though she almost slips a few times, she manages to catch herself each time, and with a triumphant shout, reaches the crows nest after only a little over a minute.

Isabella comes around, realizing at once what has happened. I've been Shackled! I can't believe that I let my guard down! She gets to her feet unsteadily, still woozy from the drink. Staggering to the ladder, she climbs onto the deck, blinking against the bright sunlight.

Isabella was also done via HeroLab, so I'm pretty sure that she is correct. Isabella's skill set includes Acrobatics, Climb, Disable Device, Escape Artist, Knowledge (local), Perception, Profession (sailor), Sense Motive, Sleight of Hand, and Swim. She was designed to support her background and to fit the general theme of the adventure path, not with the specifics of the AP in mind. I'm 47, happily married for 25 years, and have no children, but I do room with five cats which I daily alternate between fawning over and contemplating turning into slippers. I am currently unemployed, trying to get disability for my depression and social anxiety. This is actually Isabella's second outing in this AP; the first never got past the opening scene, so I'm understandably very pumped to play. I'm a role-player first and foremost, so if you post a message with a spoiler that doesn't say "Isabella," "Everyone," or "OOC," don't expect me to read it. I do not read spoilers that aren't intended for my character as I feel that it ruins the immersion. This includes speaking in a language Isabella doesn't know (for the record, she speaks Common, Draconic, Elven, and Polyglot). I'm in this for the fun, and the more we stick to our characters in the course of the game, the more fun it is. Yes, I am running this AP for two different groups, but I am very capable of keeping player and character knowledge separate and Isabella will not act on anything that she could not know. I intend to play her by her stats: intelligent, though perhaps not with a full dose of common sense. She's sweet enough, once you get to know her, but can be a bit stand-offish at the outset of a relationship.

Isabella checking in; feel free to check crunch. As for me, my name is John. I've been a gamer for more than 30 years, having cut my teeth on the Holmes-edition of D&D. I've played every edition since then, and many more games besides. In fact, I daresay you can't name a game which I haven't at the very least, heard of, if not tried. This is a fun AP to run as a GM, so I'm looking forward to playing it. Thanks for selecting me!
Maybe the fifth time will be the charm. Actually got into one game, but it died before the first move. In the interest of full disclosure, I am running this AP both for my tabletop group and as a PbP on here. However, I am well-versed in separating character knowledge from player knowledge. I've been GMing for more than 30 years and I'm looking forward to maybe experiencing this AP as a player. Anyway, here's Isabella. Don't be put off by her attitude. Once you get to know her, you'll know what standoffish really is.
Actually, taking on extras would be difficult. I'm running this for my tabletop group of eight, and it's really stretching the capacity of the adventure to handle. I've had to modify a number of the encounters to adapt. Personally, I fear for my acceptance. Among such luminaries as are assembled here, Isabella just doesn't stand out. I could hardly blame the GM if he chose more flamboyant characters than her. In any case, good luck to all. This is my 5th attempt. I have enjoyed running it so much that I feel it would be a blast to play.

Sorry for the delay, ladies and gents. I got a new project today and have been spending a lot of time on it. I am the new webmaster for the CoastCon website (http://coastcon.org). Anyway, I should be able to get a post out sometime tomorrow (I would do it tonight, but it's Encounters night).
Okay, Isabella's background has been expounded upon. Background: Isabella D'Rosini was born Quinteliasa, the daughter of an elven nobleman and his human wife. From birth, she was raised in the ways of nobility and seldom wanted for anything. But Isabella longed for the one thing that she could not have; a life of adventure. She thrilled to heroic exploits in stories read to her by her mother and wished more than anything to have an adventure of her own.
She was only 16 years old when she resolved to leave home and seek out a grand adventure. She left in the dead of night, leaving a note to her parents explaining herself and admonishing them not to worry. But worry they did, and spared no expense to find their little girl. Quinteliasa, for her part, made their task difficult. She changed her name to Isabella and went into the Chelish underworld, becoming a street rat. She learned the ways of thievery from unsavory sorts and paid for the knowledge in ways best not described here. But when she was 20 years old, she was casing a storefront for a possible hit, when she saw him. He was tall, dark-haired, and incredibly handsome. For Isabella, it was love at first sight. Forgetting her intent, she revealed herself to him. His first reaction was not what she had hoped. The young sailor was repulsed by her wretched appearance and unsavory origins. Drawing upon her noble background, Isabella cleaned up. She put on a lovely red dress that she had "acquired" a few days before and had intended to fence later. She washed her hair and put it up in a bun, and added make up to accent her features. Then, she found him at the local watering hole and tried again. This time, the handsome sailor was smitten. He never recognized her as the street rat that he had turned away only a day before. It was his turn to fall in love with her. He remained in port and courted her through the winter, and in spring, they were wed. His name was Roberto, and she never told him of her deception or her past. They lived happily for two years. Roberto spent much of his time at sea, and Isabella faithfully waited for her love to return. It was eight months ago that she received word of his abduction from the decks of the Widow's Breast during a pirate raid. At first, she was distraught and had no idea what to do. Then, a fire began to burn in her breast. Drawing on her training with the rapier as a girl, she sold their home and used the money to secure passage on a ship and begin her search for her lost love. It was three months ago when she got a tip that he might have escaped slavery and was in the Shackles. Her quest led her to Port Peril, where she was investigating a known pirate watering hole, the Formidably Maid. She was quenching her thirst and getting a lead on her husband's trail when something hit the back of her head, and everything went black.

ISabella did her level best to ignore the conversation going on around her. These people were certainly crude enough to be pirates, except maybe the blond elf and the Vudrani.

Isabella slams another drink and sets down her glass. "I got word that he may have escaped slavery, and this is where my search has led me. As to you," she eyes the Kuru, "Love is a stronger bond than the lust that... whatever you are... your kind obviously employs." When the half-orc makes his speech, Isabella merely ignores him. She will not be drawn into a contest with crude taunts.

"I was told," Isabella replies, spinning about, "That he was taken aboard with some other prisoners likely to be sold into slavery. This from a survivor of the attack."

The redheaded woman looks at Ben with a hint of disdain. "No, I'm not alright. My husband has gone missing, taken by pirates some eight months ago, and I'm searching for him."

The tall, leggy, redheaded woman enters the bar with an air of nobility, as though she somehow considered herself superior to the other patrons. Her leather armor is fitted perfectly to her slender body, and a rapier hangs from her belt. A light crossbow hangs from a loop at her back, and a quiver of bolts rests upon one hip. She took a seat at the bar, oblivious to those around her. "Pour one, barkeep. Whatever passes for alcohol in this drink-sodden town." It was the fourth tavern that she had checked today and she was no closer to finding her missing husband. Her mood was considerably less than good. Roberto had been a sailor aboard the Widow's Breast, a merchant vessel out of Cheliax. Eight months ago, he disappeared, captured during a pirate raid on the vessel. As far as she knew, he was still alive, and she was determined to find him, even if it meant checking every seedy bar and tavern in the Shackles. She slams the drink and puts the glass down. "Another!" she demands. Only then does she pause to look around the bar.
Well, I didn't get into the other one, so... This is WhtKnt's submission. In the interest of full disclosure, I am running S&S in my home game, but I will keep character knowledge and player knowledge separate. I've been RPing since 1979 and am a pretty reliable poster. I can post a minimum of once per day during the week, and typically more often than that. Weekends may be spotty as I am pretty busy on my weekends, but I can usually manage once per day or better. As for what I am looking for; I expect to have fun. This is a very fun adventure to run, and I expect that it would be as much fun to play. As for character interaction, I'm all about it. The primary reason to play an RPG is to stretch one's acting skills, and I do so. Mez will, I think, vouch for me, as I am in his Reign of Winter game and I'd like to think that we're having fun with the character interaction in that game. Isabella's background is currently sparse, but I will expound upon it prior to the end of the submission period. I just wanted to get her up here for your approval.
Fourth time is the charm, right? Maybe Isabella will actually get to sail this time. Isabella has spent the last several months searching for her missing husband, taken in a raid by pirates. Her quest led her to Port Peril, where she was investigating a known pirate watering hole, the Formidably Maid. She was quenching her thirst and getting a lead on her husband's trail when something hit the back of her head, and everything went black.
In the interest of full-disclosure: I am running this AP in real life. My group is approaching the end of the first book. That said, I am perfectly capable of separating character knowledge and player knowledge. I believe in full immersion, so I will not let foreshadowing ruin the game. Isabella comes into this blind, so to speak. Why am I telling you this? Well, first, because I believe in being straightforward and honest. Second, because the GM may find it useful to have someone in the group who is familiar with the routines that make up much of the first book.

Isabella groggily opens her eyes, instantly recognizing her surroundings. No stranger to being aboard ship, she realizes that she is in a ship's hold. She reaches for her rapier, only to find it missing. Her dagger, likewise, is gone from her person. Hells. I let my guard down for an instant and I get press-ganged! Nothing more to do for the moment, I guess, other than to ride it out. She scrambles unsteadily to her feet, still finding her sea legs, and stumbles towards the gangway.
If it makes any difference: I've been playing since 1978 (obviously, not Pathfinder). I usually GM, which is why I'd like to get in on a few of these APs. I've probably heard of, if not played, any game system you can name. I started on D&D (Holmes-edition) and cut my teeth on the classics like Star Frontiers and Gamma World. I've been playing Pathfinder for about a year-and-a-half and I consider myself very familiar with the rules.
This is the alias of WhtKnt, created specifically for this game. Isabella D'Rosini is a handsome young noblewoman from Cheliax. She stands roughly 5-and-a-half feet tall and is thin without being skinny. She wears her shoulder-length red hair piled atop her head in an intricate bun. Her clothing is clean and neat and while not of the highest quality, is sensible and dressy without being too pretentious. She has spent the last several months searching for her missing husband, taken in a raid by pirates. Her quest led her to Port Peril, where she was investigating a known pirate watering hole, the Formidably Maid. She was quenching her thirst and getting a lead on her husband's trail when something hit the back of her head, and everything went black. As I stated earlier, I am actually running this game, but I am perfectly willing to play dumb and enjoy the ride. In fact, I might even be able to make the GM's job a little easier by nudging the characters in the right direction now and again. I can post at least twice per day, and often more regularly than this. Isabella is mostly a skill monkey. In combat, she will eventually become a two-weapon terror, though initially, she will be hard pressed to wield both rapier and dagger. She is a skirmisher, using the terrain to her advantage. Out of combat, she brings to the table a decent pick pocketing skill, strong disable device skills, and decent stealth. She can climb, jump, tumble, and swim. In short, an excellent candidate for piracy. :) |
