Idrassa held back, knowing the tiny space of the safehouse was already crowded and there was little she could do to assist. But Tweety saw a familiar face and the human's eyes widened at the relayed information
She almost blurted this aloud, but stopped herself. If the guard knew they were interested in the captive, it could become a hostage situation.
For her part, Tweety yielded to Idrassa's reminder to take prisoners, and attempted to grab the remaining guard, but was unable to slip her coils around the Tarkanan.

As the door opened, Idrassa maneuvered herself beside Declan and loosed a bolt at the first of the two thugs. For her part, Tweety slipped through the open door, still clinging to the ceiling, and struck downward at the other.

Idrassa held back, putting some distance between herself and the door but cocking the crossbow she had drawn from her bag. Tweety, for her part, had simply scrabbled along the wall and now hung upside down above the door, waiting for the mayhem that was to come.
Welcome back!
F Human Summoner 3
Idrassa pondered these developments. Hostiles were watching the same door they were. Daask? Perhaps, though she suspected the Tarkanans were not short of enemies.
"So much for them," Idrassa commented to the others. "Should we...Go ahead with things?"
F Human Summoner 3
In spite of herself, Idrassa had been basking in the colorfully unbridled abandon of the district, her own enjoyment enhanced by Tweety's similar predilection for the place. But Declan's words brought her back to reality.
"Most of us should probably wait here to avoid arousing suspicion," she observed. [b]"Who wants to make the approach?"/[b]
Neuromancer? "The sky over Throneport was the color of a crystal ball scrying on Limbo."
F Human Summoner 3
Idrassa considered. "Anyone good with disguises?" She asked. "If one of our people could impersonate one of theirs long enough to get a foot in the door, we could try to rush the place. Maybe someone delivering a prisoner," she added.
She could not believe she was talking like this. Not so long ago she had made her living with paper. But, she reflected. Things change.
F Human Summoner 3
Idrassa hid her surprise at this. "What sort of ledgers?" She asked. It did not sound like Starsong was after the same thing they were, but if he got wind of it he might change his mind.
F Human Summoner 3
Idrassa nodded. "I hear the Tarkanans have been poaching some of your talent," she began. She decided it would be best to be very direct. They were asking for Starsong's trust, they had to show that they weren't afraid to make their own intentions known. "We've got our own...concerns with them. We'd like to take them down a peg or two, and we were hoping you might be able to share some information about them."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
F Human Summoner 3
Idrassa gave a polite smile, indicating she was at ease despite the attempted mind games. "A glass of wine would be lovely, thank you," she said. She let Tweety curl at her feet, but mentally warned the serpent not to become too relaxed.
F Human Summoner 3
Idrassa nodded, accepting the cue from Declan. "We're here because we have some...common interests, with you," she observed. "Perhaps we can help each other."
F Human Summoner 3
Back at the tavern, Idrassa related her findings to the others.
"I think it's time to pay Master Starsong a visit," she concluded. [b]"Might be best to go in force, make us look like we could do some damage to the Tarkanans if he gives us good intel."
She was less certain of that than she sounded, but she bore the Tarkanans a particular loathing that left her willing to try.
F Human Summoner 3
Idrassa called on some of the fences she knew, asking careful non-questions about the Tarkanans and knowing that word of this might well get back to the gangs. But this could not be helped, and in any case, she had been part of the other night's skirmish with them. She was hardly in their good graces either way.
diplomacy gather information on Tarkanans: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
I know people were ambivalent about this approach, but Idrassa's going ahead with it. We were fighting them the other night regardless.
F Human Summoner 3
So it seems like we are converging on calling on Davil Starsong and asking about Tarkanans. Do we want to just go ahead with that as a group? Show up together as a show of force?
F Human Summoner 3
Idrassa resisted the temptation to flinch, knowing she had just put the reporter on the Graelhunds' scent. Still, perhaps it was not an entirely bad thing if the Graelhunds were worried their activities might see print. And it would be useful to know who else might be involved.
"I would be interested to know more," she offered. "Thank you."
F Human Summoner 3
Idrassa nodded to Shan Chien, then looked started as Thraag proposed a "strike." She knew that might be inevitable, but she did not want Shan Chien to know that.
She found herself thinking of Field Ward, and wondering if there were a way to stop the violence from spreading there.
But sometimes it paid to ask a question you already knew the answer to. "What about the Dragonmarked Houses? Or the nobles?" Added Idrassa. "Have any of them shown any interest in these items?"
F Human Summoner 3
Idrassa silently cursed. Shan Chien was quick, and it would be unhelpful if he uncovered too much. Already she was concerned that publishing news of a gang war over an item of power might summon treasure hunters not already in the game. But there was no help for it.
"Do you know the names of anyone on the Tarkanan or Daask sides? I mean, other than this 'Manshoon,'" she added.
F Human Summoner 3
"Sure - Let me grab the others," she said. She quickly flagged down as many of the Trollskull's fellow staff members as she could. She hesitated for a moment at the two newcomers, but decided if they were going to be involved in security it would be best to keep them informed. If you weren't willing to give people that much trust, she reflected, you shouldn't work with them.
Goggh nodded that he would take over security again. The big minotaur had already indicated he wanted nothing to do with the group's extracurricular activities, so it was probably for the best. The group assembled, Idrassa led them to the common area on the second floor.
"So, thanks for coming," she told Shan Chien once introductions were complete. "What have you found?"
F Human Summoner 3
Idrassa stilled him with another hard look, then returned her attention to Eyve. "We'll work things out," she assured the android.
"Any more surprises I should know about?" She asked Gavrin.
Wrap up here on Gavrin's response?

Eyve wrote: ”I am..different…something in between. Much like a human, I eat, and sleep, and breathe, though I am by the estimation of any who have studied me, artificial. And yet, I am alive, and as far as I know, unique, and as such my status is…awkward…to say the least.”
Idrassa remained impassive as Eyve spoke, but when she finished, the human gave Gavrin a hard look. It was a look that communicated that he had tried to make light of a favor that could have serious consequences. It was a look that made clear there would be more discussion on this later.
But when she returned her attention to Eyve that look was gone, replaced with something more contemplative. Idrassa remembered what it was to be alone and friendless, to not understand your place in the world, to be cut off from a past that was well and truly done with you even if you could never really be free of it. She knew she could not let this woman walk away alone.
So, with an ease born of a youth spent in a dragonmarked House, she rationalized her actions. "We could use some extra security," she said. "That bomb in the marketplace went off a little close to us, and things have been tense in the city." She left their other projects unspoken. Gavrin surely suspected Idrassa was up to something complicated, but the less he knew, the better.
"I need to introduce you to some other people and get their consent," she said. "But I don't think it will be a problem."
"Do you need documents?" She continued. "It's hard to move around the city without them."
F Human Summoner 3
It's not necessarily a bad idea, but if we deal with the Daask that way, we let them know we have one of the stones. They'll turn on us as soon as we have it, and we'll have to deal with them at the same time as we deal with Tarkanan revenge.
Let's see what we can get from Shan Chien. Maybe there will be another angle there.
F Human Summoner 3
Eyve wrote: "Security primarily." Eyve replies after a moment of careful consideration. "Most of my...training pertains to keeping others safe...or dealing with dangerous situations."
Her words seem carefully chosen.
Idrassa did not miss the evasiveness from either party. She eyed them both carefully.
"Look," she said quietly, maintaining a poker face. "I'm willing to cut a deal here, but one of you is going to have to tell me what's going on. What are you to him?" She asked Eyve, "And why would a security expert be looking for work at a tavern?"

Gavrin cleared his throat again and grabbed his drink to clear away the dry mouth. "Um, Eyve here is a client of mine." Of sorts, anyway. "She, uh, um. She's..." he glanced at Eyve, his voice rising into a question. "looking for work? I can vouch for her." "Thanks for the file," Idrassa answered, forcing herself to keep her voice pleasant. She wished she had Tweety with her - the serpent was remarkably good with emotional chemistry, and there was definitely something off here. "I don't know if we have an opening at the inn, but I can talk to the co-owners. What kind of work do you do, Eyve?"
F Human Summoner 3
"A pleasure," replied Idrassa, still concealing her unease. Gavrin's usual desire to keep a low profile was undercut by the striking appearance of his companion. So why was she there?
The human pushed that out of her mind and returned her attention to Gavrin. As usual, he seemed uncertain how to begin, so she simply pushed ahead. "You wanted to talk?" She prompted as gently as she could.
F Human Summoner 3
Idrassa kept her face pleasantly neutral as she approached, maintaining the illusion that she was simply greeting two casual acquaintances. But as she slid into the booth opposite to the pair, she wrestled with a growing unease. There was something decidedly odd about this woman, and Idrassa was keenly aware that their recent interactions meant she owed Gavrin a favor. The combination of the two facts did not sit well with her.
As usual, Gavrin was slow to pick up on social niceties, so Idrassa took the initiative. "Hello, Gavrin," she offered, "And hello to you," she continued, extending her hand to his companion. "I'm Idrassa Quill."
F Human Summoner 3
"I - we aren't really suited to undercover work," Idrassa said, with a glance at Tweety. "And as you say, Zander, it's dangerous for us to be known to the Boromars if we betray them."
She frowned. "What about just trying to convince some of them to talk about the Tarkanans? If we can bloody or humiliate the Tarkanans, some of the Boromars might come home. That might be an incentive for the Boromars to give us some intel. The Tarkanans already have cause to think we're in league with the Graelhunds," she added. "So it's not like we're giving anything away."
F Human Summoner 3
Idrassa looked at Declan, her curiosity piqued. "What do you have in mind?" She asked.
F Human Summoner 3
Idrassa thanked Shan Chien for the voluminous notes he had provided. She seemed pensive, though she did offer him a drink on the house before he left.
As she sat with the others after the briefing, she reflected on the notes. "It's impossible to tell if this might actually be Manshoon, or just someone trading on the name," she observed. "Also hard to know if it matters."
She paused, mulling things over. "Do either of you have contacts in the Boromar Clan?" she asked. "If the Tarkanans are stealing their muscle, they might be willing to talk about it. And friends talk, word about what the Tarkanans are up to might have made its way back to the Boromars."
F Human Summoner 3
"Um, alright," offered Idrassa uncomfortably. She had not intended to leave Zander out of the rest of the conversation. "The clockwork birds were being used to deliver messages to and from the estate without Lady Gralhund's knowledge. They were the tools of some kind of spy. That's what she needs to deal with."
Idrassa shifted. "As for the 'opportunity,' that's a share of the treasure in the vault. The half a million Gallifars Renaer's father stole, if our information is to be believed." Idrassa half-smiled. "She said she would 'Go to the vault with us,'" the young woman added. "But didn't give us a number for our cut. It doesn't matter - we can negotiate for an insane amount of money if we can get even one of these eyes. Enough to make us rich, not enough to make it worth her time to try to kill us and find the Eye."
F Human Summoner 3
Idrassa waited until Lady Gralhund and her guard were gone. A part of her wanted to go up to her room, throw her few belongings into her bag, and hop the next boat out of town. And she did not trust the Lady's description of events in the marketplace that managed to place blame for the tragedy elsewhere.
But the amount of money on the table was staggering. It was the first time since arriving in Throneport that she had perceived even the faintest chance of regaining her old lifestyle of wealth and privilege. A restless part of her stirred.
"I think...this is worth pursuing," she said, breaking the silence that had descended since their visitors' departure. "We can't fully trust the Gralhunds. But we may not need to to exploit the opportunity."
F Human Summoner 3
Idrassa nodded her thanks to the warforged, and then returned her attention to Lady Yalah. "It sounds like you have a problem," she observed carefully. "We can inform you the next time Zander sees a construct enter the compound, if you like.
"As to the rest," she added. "I think we need to discuss matters among ourselves before committing. But your proposal is intriguing," Idrassa concluded.
F Human Summoner 3
Idrassa hesitated. The warforged had always seemed erratic, but his constant vigil in the tower had not gone unnoticed by the human woman. The construct was clearly fascinated with all things related to flight. And the implications of his observation were very important indeed.
"Zander," she asked carefully. "Have you seen clockwork birds flying to the estate?"

Idrassa kept her face neutral. "You have resources," she observed. "What is it that you think we can do that you can't?"
F Human Summoner 3
"If they want us badly enough? No," answered Idrassa. "But we dealt them a blow last night. They lose a few more fighters, and they're going to have to husband their resources just to hold their ground against the Draask.
But I think it's my turn for a question now," she continued. "What do you have that they want badly enough to mount that kind of attack? Or, if you don't want to be that specific, what's that fight really about?"
F Human Summoner 3
Idrassa sighed. "Alright," she assented. "We got word the Tarkanans were in the area and went looking for them. We have some connections who are helping us and...some scores to settle there," she said, choosing her words carefully. "We made the two lookouts on the roof across from your estate, and things went from there."

F Human Summoner 3
Idrassa wordlessly poured three cups of coffee, already knowing how Declan took his. Then she sat.
"I am sorry for the losses your household suffered," Idrassa began. Then, deciding the woman was not much for small talk, simply continued, "Please, ask your questions."
F Human Summoner 3
"My lady," offered Idrassa as the noblewoman came in. She was standing near a table. "Would you care for tal? Or coffee?"
Tweety was curled in the corner. She was not in a threat position, but her head swiveled to track the newcomers as they moved.
F Human Summoner 3
"But it was the Graelhunds' nimblewright who assassinated Dalakhar," objected Idrassa. "Maybe both the Tarkanans and the Graelhunds wanted him dead? They may both have their sights on the treasure."
F Human Summoner 3
Idrassa nodded. "Alright then. I'm Idrassa Quill, and I'll see you at the Trollskull Tavern tomorrow morning."
She waited for a gesture of dismissal from the Lady, fighting back the urge to simply bolt.
F Human Summoner 3
Idrassa literally can't make that Perception roll, and neither can Tweety make the 28. I'll try to post later today.
F Human Summoner 3
"Yes, ma'am. Er, my Lady," Idrassa said, trying to emphasize her lower social standing. Part of her distantly noted that a man who had been her different self's father would have sneered at this unmarked petty noble, but Idrassa Quill had neither the power nor the inclination to do so.
She repeated her story, trying to sound like an earnest businesswoman caught in a bizarre situation. This time, she found herself able to deliver her story with more legs.
Bluff: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
She doesn't have to fully believe us, she just has to be uncertain enough to let us go.

F Human Summoner 3
Well, so far so good, mused Idrassa. He hasn't shot yet.
"This is Tweety, I'm her familiar," Idrassa explained. Getting the guard a little off-balance would probably be a good thing. "For the catering...Look, I know it sounds crazy, but we're tavern owners. The Trollskull, a couple of blocks over. Have you heard of us?
She pushed on before he could answer. She spoke loudly so that her fellow Trollskullers could hear her, though she tried to make it come across as nervous energy. "Anyway, we're local, and I was hoping we could...get the Gralhunds to throw us some business. I've been asking around, looking for an in. Then a young woman shows up this afternoon and says we should stop by tonight to, uh, talk to some people."
Idrassa feigned embarrassment. "Look, I think she was angling for a bribe for the downstairs staff. But, that's business," Idrassa added with a worried smile. "Anyway, we come to the kitchen door like we were told, and no one answers the knock. But it was open, so we thought it was a, uh, invitation. Then we came in, and there's the young woman, dead on the floor with the other kitchen staff. After that, well..." She shrugged in embarrassment, then added. "It was good we came armed. I mean, not that we were looking for trouble, but the streets aren't safe these days. The other day a bookseller needed help getting an abomination out of their shop. And then there was the market bombing not so long ago. People are...on edge."
She wished she hadn't had to mention the bombing, but the guards probably didn't know who was responsible for it, and in any case it would have looked just as strange not to mention it.
If you're going to shovel, don't do it by half!
F Human Summoner 3
Idrassa recognized her cue. She had to get their story out while everyone was in earshot. If they were separated it would be chaos.
"Easy," she told the guards. She gently set her crossbow on the ground but did not lie down. At her mental instructions, Tweety made her way over to coil beside Idrassa as she spoke. "We're tavern owners. We just came here looking to get an inside line on a catering deal. Please don't shout or make any sudden moves," she added, addressing the guards. "My friend here is fierce, and she can be...startled into violence when her bloodlust is up."
This earned Idrassa a querulous look from the remarkably placid eidolon. Then, belatedly, Tweety coiled and hissed.

F Human Summoner 3
With the room now looking more clear, Idrassa darted up the stairs. Her friends could win the war, she knew, but the peace was going to be an even greater challenge. To be on the safe side, she reloaded her crossbow.
She sent the newly conjured eagle winging after the fleeing Floxin, the creature winging its way over the fighters' heads as it tried to close with the old man.
Tweety was fully engaged with the fight, bringing her full force to bear on the nearest Tarkanan.

Based on placement, eagle takes AOOs from Green and Yellow but not Brown, and can offer Floxin an AOO if he runs again next round (if he's actually vulnerable to them).

F Human Summoner 3
At the base of the stairs, Idrassa hesitated. The warforged was down, which meant they had to end this quickly. But she was not inclined to run headlong into the poisoned blades of someone who sounded like a masters swordsman.
She fumbled a wand from her sheath, and focused. An instant later a silvery portal opened in the air, and a magnificent eagle soared through, screaming defiance. The beast, itself a white so pure it nearly glowed, darted up the stairs and struck at Floxin.

Idrassa nodded her agreement to the guards' demands as they ran by. This was going to be tricky - She thought she could spin enough of a story to keep the Gralhunds from imprisoning them, but she needed to be near enough to the other Trollskullers for them to hear her. If the guards split them up there would be no way to coordinate.
She darted after the guards, reloading her crossbow as she went.
For her part, Tweety noted the very timely demise of the Tarkanan who had been standing on the stairs. She slithered straight up the wall and lashed out at the nearest Tarkanan.

Idrassa eyed the new arrivals. She gestured, shifting the silvery portals so that the green ooze was drawn away as abruptly as it had appeared. Then she stepped forward, crossbow unloaded and carefully pointed away from the Household guards.
"Easy," she offered. "Your House is under attack by Tarkanans. We...aren't with them. As my friend said, we have a common enemy."
For her part, Tweety darted over the newly cleared floor, making her way up the stairs.
Idrassa will Move 1W so the Gralhund to her south can see her, and use a Standard action to dismiss the Grease. Tweety will double Move 8W to make her way as far up the stairs as she can.
I don't think this counts as Diplomacy, since that takes a full minute, but Idrassa will make use of any relevant charisma-based skills to convince the guards not to fight her.
F Human Summoner 3
Mechanically, Idrassa loaded and shot her crossbow again. In the chaos, she spared a moment's attention for the ooze she had created, shifting the silvery portals so that the green ooze was drawn away as abruptly as it had appeared.
Tweety continued her frenzied onslaught, lashing and lunging at the Tarkanan before her. Her tail caught the man in a whiplike strike to the face.
