It's just been pointed out that a cleric does not have to have a deity. He can be aligned to 'strength' for instance, or 'Fire' or just plain 'Good'.

Which is fine, and it's how I've been playing any weird cults that the gang have been comming across.

But apparently you cannot be a cleric of Aroden. I'm just confused now. I can have a cleric of an ideal, but if that Ideal is Aroden it's verboten?

and if that's not the case, why haven't Aroden's clergy retaken some divine power back?

So the cleric (of Pharisma, but it's not relevant) decides, 'screw weapons, I just want to shield bash', and buys the token dagger (It is the favoured wepaon of pharisma after all, and doubtless a usefull tool even when it's not a weapon), and just takes a spiked shield.

I notice that clerics are prficient with shields, but only simple wepaons (and the weapon of their god...in this case another simple weapon).

So he wants to use a spiked shield as his weapon, but the shield bash entry says it's martial weapon (bludgeonig martial without the shield spikes)

so...can he shield bash? or is it at -4 for non proficiency?

and while I'm at it, are there any consequences fo using the shiled bash as the primary attack form?

Quote:

Saving Throws and Illusions (Disbelief): Creatures encountering an illusion usually do not receive saving throws to recognize it as illusory until they study it carefully or interact with it in some fashion.

A successful saving throw against an illusion reveals it to be false, but a figment or phantasm remains as a translucent outline.

What I'm really focussing on here is where do you draw the line with the phrase '...study it carefully or interact with it in some fashion.'

An illusionary wall I understand. It looks real to the layperson viewing it. and it fails when they try to touch it.

When exactly are you 'interacting' with it?

If I used it to cover my escape, are you interacting with it when you round the corner and wonder where did I dissapear? or does it remain until my pursuer stops and wonders about the far wall? or when he decides to make a 'sweep of the room'

Or how about my illusionary bear skin rug I've placed over a 10 x10 pit. If you charge me when do you get your saving throw? when you step on the rug? when you are about to step on the rug? when you begin the charge? when you decide to attack?

Or if the monk wants to leap from the bannister, grab the illusionary chandelier and swing to the opposite ledge. does he get a saving throw before he commits the the leap?

How much work (do you think) has to be put toward an action before it is 'interaction'

Heya guys.

So I have a PC who, after fightering his way through a few levels, is looking to take on a skill heavy class to pick up his shortfall. Looking over the rogue and the bard he was crestfallen to find they were his only options if he wanted to 'bulk up' that area of expertise.

Then he found the expert. He loves it, and the aristocrat, he claims it's just waht he was after, BUT it'f fairly sub-optimal as a player class.

After slapping him upside the head and explaining that NPC classes ARE suboptimal, he argued the whole 'where there's a will, there's a way'

So I've been thinking..... If you added a feat every alternating level to the Expert class (or perhaps a limited set of feats) would it fall into the 'playable' range for a PC?

The aristocrat also floats his boat. he likes the idea of becoming more..and these are his words 'palace worthy'

Much like as the subject states.

If I use Trip (which can be used in place of a melee attack) can I also use cleave ( described as an attack).

Combined with great cleave could I trip a mess of (adjacent) orcs?

In the good ole' days before pathfinder, I hated the rogue. He was a good class, but the backstab...sorry, sneak attack seemed unbalanced and made me generally unhappy. Thankfully the martial rogue was found by one and all to be an acceptable substitution, essentially dropping sneak attack for a fighter bonus feat.

Nowadays though that seems a little impractical, as the rogues ability list is pretty full, and subbing a fighter bonus feat for sneak attack essentially means he's getting a lot of extra feats (especially as rogue tricks allow him to get even more fighter bonus feats every second level now).

Has anyone got any thoughtful suggestions for a sneak attack replacement ability?

Dangit! One of My mates has just returned from GenconOz with a copy of Pathfinder all signed. What's this about 'good for a bag of holding type 3'?

Seriously. We have been gushing about it. Sorry to have missed it (It was over a thousand miles away though, but the club up here has been following the podcasts.

And Now It seems I have to eat a bag. Grrr
