Much like as the subject states.
If I use Trip (which can be used in place of a melee attack) can I also use cleave ( described as an attack).
Combined with great cleave could I trip a mess of (adjacent) orcs?
Batts
I was about to say no but I found this:
PRD
Some combat maneuvers substitute for a melee attack, not an action. As melee attacks, they can be used once in an attack or charge action, one or more times in a full-attack action, or even as an attack of opportunity. Others are used as a separate action.
Trip
You can attempt to trip your opponent in place of a melee attack. You can only trip an opponent who is no more than one size category larger than you. If you do not have the Improved Trip feat, or a similar ability, initiating a trip provokes an attack of opportunity from the target of your maneuver.
You just gave me a great idea. Thanks.

Nope. See page 201. You can sunder in place of a melee attack.
