"Yes, of course. Ian Palmer," He holds out a hand, slipping a business card into the man's hand when they shake. "Apologies for dropping in early. We arrived a little earlier than anticipated, and were excited to get started." He grins. "Are things in order, then? We'd like to see her."
I've had an awful bout of the flu, will try to get a post up today
"I must commend your restraint and secrecy. Ms. Grimaldi. Important to be careful, innit?" Ian says with a grin, his eyes running over his calendar as he searches his memory, trying to put a face to the name Arianna. Satisfied with the schedule, he begins throwing items into a bag. "As I have some open availability, it would be my pleasure to accompany you. When do you need me there?"
Ian nods, despite Arianna being unable to see him through the phone. "Of course. Let me see what I can dig up and I'll call you back." A short while, and a few other phone calls later, Ian rings Arianna back. "The ship you're looking for was built in a city called Okham. It's continental. Tiagara Imports, which owns it, is based there, in Okham, Maine. Couldn't get information from them on what the goods were, though. No "legal cause"." He snorts. "Probably would've gone for it if I could've slipped a few quid through the phone." He cocks his head, curiosity overtaking him. "Not really my style, mind, but might I ask your interest in the ship?"
"Master Palmer, my name is Arianna Grimaldi, and I was hoping to speak to you a moment about possibly retaining your services. My brother told me that you're a man who can be trusted, and I am willing to believe that. This would be for me specifically, as opposed to my family. Is it possible that you're available to assist me?" There's a long pause from the other end of the line before Ian says, "Of course Miss Grimaldi, it would be my pleasure. What can I do for you?"
Nope, my mistake! That's what I get for posting at like 5am.
Ian moves quickly around his London flat, throwing necessary items into a suitcase, often hiding them under clothing. "Can always pick up a few things once I'm there," he mutters to himself, wishing not for the first time that he had a flat state-side as well. It would simply have made things easier. While he moves around, throwing things into his bags, he speaks into a small tape recorder in his other hand. "La Vierge," He announces. "Wished I had heard of it earlier, I'd have put my own crate on her before she departed. Maybe I could have even spoken to some of the crew before they drifted off to other, open waters. Still, it seems likely a waste of time. Quitting your job over some rats is perhaps extreme, but there are none more superstitious than sailors." He pauses the tape for a moment, collecting his thoughts. "I may still check in on it on the other side. While I'm in America, I must also remember to-" A phone ringing cuts through his speech, and he pauses the tape again, moving over towards the phone. He lets it ring once more before picking it up. "Palmer," he says into it.
