Silver Crusade

Congrats to those who got accepted.

I have to say, as someone new to doing RPGs as a PbP, the recruitment is rough. Getting emotionally invested in a character and then getting turned down is had to handle.

Obviously that will happen more often than not. Those of you who have been around for a long time and have been through this cycle a lot must have some real scars deep down inside.

Hudjefa applauds the excellent performance.

Nidhi, you are quite skilled. Especially for a tailor. Perhaps you should take up performing as a full time endeavor.

I'm new to Pathfinder so I'm sorry if I picked the wrong god. (And sorry for not responding earlier to your character's question!)

The Egyptian gods aren't really a part of Pathfinder. This Adventure Path may be the only place where they are mentioned. Pharasma is a fine choice for a Watian (they did save the city after all), though perhaps an unusual choice for a bard...

Prof. Benedictus Dickens wrote:

Ben feels a little embarassed by Cahal’s answer and it takes some time for him to find a way to reply appropriately. He definitely does not want to be misunderstood once again. “Well, I-I…P-Perhaps I said that all wrong. ‘Osirionologist’ is just a quick label that scholars use in order to group together those who devote their lives to the study of Osirion’s history. It’s a pretty wide category though…” Scratching the back of his head, Benedictus sighs. “B-but that’s pretty much it. In any case, it does not imply that I know anything more about Wati than you do. Of course I know a few things about it, but I’m here because I need to learn much, much more…That’s why I’m trying to join an adventuring party.”

Hudjefa stands up and walks over to the Professor.

Greetings, Professor. I, for one, appreciate the qualities that a man who has studied the ancient cultures can bring to an endeavor of this magnitude.
We, who live here, know Wati, but the tombs beneath are not Wati. They are not even Osiria. They are a different place all together.
Having someone who knows something of how the culture who built these places thinks will be invaluable toward solving the many puzzles we will surely encounter. I say welcome to you sir.

Hudjefa turns to sit down, only to turn back around.

Oh, but you wanted to know our names. My name is Hudjefa.
You, of all people should recognize the significance of that name, or lack thereof.
I wonder, do you really know what you are getting into? Have you done much exploration of ancient sites? Perhaps you may have even read about mummies in other places and their curses?
I am proof, sir, that the curses you have read about are benign things. Disease, despair, perhaps even a lingering death. The curses to be encountered in our tombs are ones that will attach themselves to the unlucky explorers family and propogate themselves for generations.
Your children, and your children's children will suffer the effects of the curse through no fault of their own, until in despair they seek to eliminate their own children in an effort to break the curse.
That is what we will find when we go into the tombs of the ancients.

Just so you are prepared. If you still want to proceed into the tombs, it will be good to have your company.

With that, Hudjefa returns to his figs.

Eyes narrowing, Hudjefa turns his body and attention more fully toward Cahal.

Did she?
This question of rebirth... I suspect an ulterior motive.

When mortals begin thinking of rebirth, it is usually in response to a loss. These thoughts lead to...

Now sneering Necromancy.

He sniffs the air. You do not have the stink of the grave upon you. Nor do you have the appearance of a death mage. My lady, if you have lost someone, grieve and be done with it. If you need to speak with this person, find a white necromancer sanctioned by Pharasma.

”Uh. We don’t have that kind of water sir, my apologies. I do have some fresh though, and can add a little fruit if you like?”

Hudjefa holds the bartender's eyes for several moments, allowing him to become distinctly uncomfortable.

Tepid means "not chilled". I find that food and drink which are either too hot or too cold cause most people abdominal discomfort. Especially in this heat, yes?

Fresh water would certainly be appreciated, as long as it is clean.

After a slight pause.

Just the figs, if you please

Hudjefa pulls a clean cup from his pack and pours from his own waterskin.

Cahal ud'Din wrote:
Finally, she blurts: "As a Pharasmin, what is your opinion regarding the Old Gods?" then immediately curses herself for choosing such a delicate topic for their first real conversation.

The Lady of Graves has been shepherding souls since the Age of Creation, so you can say that I have a special affinity for the Old Gods.

As for any particular individual's choice of worship, I hold no love or enmity for practitioners of other faiths. All who live must face her judgement.

This last phrase is delivered as an intonation, though (due to Hudjefa's nature) you are unsure if it was intended as a blessing or a warning.

Regardless of your faith, it will be the Lady who steers your soul to its final reward. Thus, it will behoove you to ensure that she views the events of your life in a positive light.

My apologies, Cahal, I assumed that it was obvious. I have served the Grand Mausoleum here is Wati for my entire life. You may have seen me around the temple from time to time, though until joining the Inquisition I tried to keep myself out of sight as much as possible.

Cursed as I am, my appearance tends to make others nervous. Nervousness is invaluable during interrogation, not so much when assisting a midwife.

I assure you though, the curse is not catching, I simply have to take care of my health with extra zeal. Speaking of which...

Turning to the bartender, pointedly staring right into his eyes:

Tepid water and a plate of figs, if you please.

Turning back to the group:

Please feel free to share. I find them excellent for your regularity.

Crunch updated, along with a very minor change to the backstory. (Simply referencing the Mummy Curse)

Listening closely to the pleas of his companions, sifting through their answers for any sign of fabrications, Hudjefa waits to be the last of his group in line.

Speaking in the same soft voice that he has found influences most people to pay more attention to his words, he addresses Abdur.

Most Esteemed Abdur, these others choose to speak in our native language where you have chosen to start the conversation in Taldane. I do not know if they intend to hide details of their pleas from some foreigners, or if they seek only to flatter you.

I believe most present understand the Osirian tongue, so I deem the effort to be wasted regardless of the intent.

Sir, whether you know my name or not, you know who I am. I wear my profession openly and will make no pretense to hide my intent. I have served in the Grand Mausoleum for my entire life and seek only to carry out the Lady's grand design.

The faith has acquiesced to the Pharaoh's command to open the burial vaults to exploration, yet it has done so with great trepidation. The elders have designed several safeguards in an attempt to minimize our fears. The lottery system is one of those safeguards designed to provide order to the affair and reduce the discomfort of those resting within these tombs.

A greater fear exists, that of the risk of disturbing the restless spirits. Putting these souls back to rest is the rightful province of the Inquisition and I am one of the Inquisitors who have been sent out to deal with this threat.

I beseech you, sir, to include me in the team you assemble.

It appears that most here have entered in pursuit of the Lady's lottery, although none have formed into a group as of yet. The Lady seems to have intended for most of the Watians to gravitate to this spot.

Finally taking the offered seat, Hudjefa continues.

Greetings to you Cahal. Know that we are not yet forged into a unit, but I find the company of those around me to be somehow... right. Feel free to pull up a chair and wait. We shall do the same until Abdur has made his decisions.

Hudjefa, sorry, I do mean core races, so I’m not allowing your Dhampir concept. I’ve tentatively added you to the submissions as race can be sorted later - though it is intertwined with your background.

Not a problem.

Like I said, the background works *almost* as well for a Mummy-cursed Human, so I just need to alter a few stats, the campaign trait, and pick up an additional Feat. The background is still fine.

I'll get the crunch updated sometime today.

Looking up at the pale man, he looks down at the ground around him and scoots his stool to one side as much as possible. "Please. Find a seat." he assures. "Words can be exchanged once pleasantries have been met."

Ah, yes, my apologies. I mistook you for foreigners. I simply did not expect to encounter many other locals looking to explore the burial sites. I generally find Watians to be more .... practical.

Glancing at the offered seat, he stays standing for the moment, not sure that he is prepared to fully associate with the group yet.

He looks directly into Khalid's eyes for a moment, assessing his intent.

Regardless, I am Hudjefa, ward of Pharasma's beneficence.

You appear to be equipped for exploration and not simply here for the meal, so let me get to the point before wasting all of our time.

Pharasma has directed me to enter the ruins in search of restless souls searching for repose. I am seeking to align myself with like minded individuals for our mutual safety.

I ask you now. Is it your intent to enter the ancient catacombs? Does the divine blessing of Pharasma interest you in your coming adventure?

Yozo wrote:
Having been overlooked by the rest of the group by more flashly newcomers, Yozo tightened his lips and shrank away, giving the new arrivals preference.

Noticing the oddly dressed foreigner seeming to leave and then rejoin the group at the bar, Hudjefa momentarily directs his attention that way.

You, there, quiet one. I had taken you to be a part of this group. Why do you now seek to distance yourself from them? You have the look of a warrior, yet you hold yourself as if you lack confidence. Speak up then, is it your intent to enter the tombs with these fine Watians?

Silver Crusade

I decided to submit this character instead of the Investigator/Archeologist.

I know that the rules state only core races, but this one works really well as a Dhampir Inquisitor(Kinslayer), so I figured I'd give it a shot. However, it will work almost as well as a Mummy-cursed Human, so I can make the minor modifications to his stats if the submission doesn't convince the GM to make an exception.

A tall, gaunt, extremely pale man decked in the colors and insignia of the Pharasma Inquisition enters the establishment. He holds himself rigidly and spends a few moments slowly blinking his eyes before casting a severe eye over the patrons.

While none of the locals look his way, there is a distinct lowering of the volume of conversation in the room. His gaze falls on the group of foreigners gathering at the bar and he strides forward. In his wake, conversations pick up again as the patrons pass furtive glances at his back.

He speaks to the group as a whole in a soft voice that encourages you to listen to his words.

Adventurers, is it? Come to Wati to take advantage of the Pharaoh's proclamations, I imagine.
I would have words with you.
