Herl maneuvers to get a line of sight into the stairwell and slips an arrow past Kev to bring down the assailant obstructing her path.

.Longbow: 1d20 + 9 - 4 ⇒ (18) + 9 - 4 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Even with the awkward angle and the chaos of melee, Herl's arrow finds it's mark. The wounded orc slumps down, leaving room for Kevezyat to face the other down.

Herl the ranger spills into the room through the window and gives the rope a tug behind him. "Climb, Knotty, climb!"

"I've tied the rope to his trunk in case we have to haul him up ourselves," he says as an aside. "It remains to be seen whether he will take to the idea of rope climbing..."

"I have no smoke arrows, but they sound wonderful. I will stay here and fire upon those orcs if they spot your friends."

Herl nods solemly at Damien's proposal.

"My arrows will not be the most effective against these skeletal archers, especially fortified as they are behind crenellation walls. But if it is only to turn the attention of the enemy to the west momentarily that you require, I suppose it will do. Myself I had thought it prudent to pick off a couple of orc sentries completely unnoticed, if there are assassins among you fit for the task. But there are many ways to skin a cat, I suppose."

"Orcs prefer dark places deep beneath the earth. If they are posted as sentries on roofs it is only out of necessity, to warn their masters within of our arrival. If we can catch them by surprise in this light we may have an advantage."

Herl sees the halfling in his piteous state.

"I'll start a fire. Don't worry, the glammer hiding us is strong. The fire will not be detectable from outside the campsite."

Herl's face relaxes as Samduc retrieves the worried treeling and brings it back within the borders of the magically hidden campsite.

"Orcs you say. Their masters are wise to stop them giving chase. I would rather pick them off in daylight as they cross the field to the treeline then attack them in a fortified position..."

He looks in the direction of the keep, barely visible from the camp as he trails off.

"The glammer hiding this campsite comes from a scroll given to me by Shandril. It is very effective but it lasts only 10 hours. Will you be ready to fight by then?"

There is a hint of doubt in his voice as he assesses your wounds.

The sun slowly climbs towards it's noonday position in the sky.
