Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Is that...is that all of them? Haley says, looking over Hemlock and Savarend's shoulders.

The tattoos on her body have cooled once again and have returned to their myriad of intricate swirls, loops and designs.

Did those goblins somehow raise the Father from the dead? That seems like powerful magic only to lock him away again..

Haley casts Detect Magic

The girl's eyes burn a vibrant blue after she casts the simple spell and she focuses on the darkness of the tomb.

No secret hides from magics eye.. She says to herself- a little mantra her professors would use to scold her miscasts back at the academy.

Welcome Back Savvy! Does the new baby have a red mohawk too? =)

Congrats!

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Fire never hesitates. It either burns away its enemies or it is snuffed out by them.

Haley, however, has not become fire yet. When the skeleton shambles forward fear ceases her and she tenses. It's claws and teeth, the void of its eye sockets, it is not an animal...no, it is less than that. It is all that remains of the living. It is emptiness. It is death.

So much death.

And yet...despite the girl's hesitation, the lattice work of tattoos criss-crossing her arms, palms and shoulders begin to glow and then fade as arcane power surges to the tips of her fingers. Haley cries out and lifts her hand, pointing it at the direction of the skeleton, forced to release the spell before it burned her from the inside out.

I wish it would stop doing that! These tattoos have a mind of their own!

A hissing streak of light, forming the shape of a prismatic warhammer, spirals end over end and explodes against the skeleton with a dazzling and booming retort.

DC 16 Reflex to avoid being dazzled.

1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 Fire Dmg

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Oooo Skellies! *fixes her jaw* Sally Forth..

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Haley moves behind the Sheriff, her curiosity getting the best of her, but the description of the fiends keeping her at bay.

Undead? Here?! Quickly Sheriff, close the door!

Haley moves to C6 and readies an action to Snapdragon Firework any undead that come shuffling outside of the crypt

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Haley snaps her fingers and a flickering spark appears in her hand. She holds it out trying to shed some light within the shadows. And, perhaps, some heat to the coldness of the crypt in front of them.

So many people died in that first fire.. She says. There has to be something relevant about the goblin attack taking place on the anniversary of that tragedy and the revealing of the temple. Something sinister is at work here.

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Haley follows the group with some reluctance, peering up at the crypt. It was a majestic building and she wondered what kind of a man Tobyn must have been to yield such a resting place in a town as small as Sandpoint.

The tattoos on her bare arms and hands seemed to warm in anticipation to the thought that hadn't quite reached her mind yet. When it did, Haley said it under her breath. And then a second time, louder for the others to hear.

What if whatever went inside....is still there.

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Haley smiles at the Sheriff's demeanor, thinking his rough exterior is in many ways for show. A good man and a paragon of the law. She dismisses any suspicious of his involvement in her mind.

When Father Zantus arrives she looks to him with compassion. Father, I think I speak for most of us when I say we'd be happy to help look over the vault for you. She looks to the others for support. Although, why on Golarion they'd hide in a burial vault is beyond me. Don't most of those things only open from the outside? Large stone doors too heavy for goblins hands alone, I'd wager.

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Haley lifts a hand to the Sheriff in a wave. She smiles sheepishly. I may be exotic looking to you now, Sheriff, but as a child I was a slight thing with tangled hair, bare feet and none of these tattoos. I'm the Kindel girl who stole the pony six summers ago...though I always meant to bring it back. Even after your men found me.

She laughs at the memory. You told me crime is crime and made me bring that pony an apple for 7 days straight. A three mile walk if I remember. Though we couldn't afford the apples at the time, someone always had one waiting on the doorstep for me...I always suspected it was you.

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Hey gang! Heading out of town tomorrow. Haley's next post will be Sunday morning. Have a great Saturday!

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

I love me some Ron Swanson now.

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Haley bites into the scone and closes her eyes to enjoy the flavor. Now this.. This was worth waking up for! She looks to the halfling and offers him half of the pastry. And you look rather dashing yourself, Sir Dairkal. She says with a grin.

When Alaren and the others start mentioning the Sheriff she listens intently. Does anyone know how to speak goblin? I've been thinking...Sandpoint's walls are pretty high and that was a lot of goblins that made it through. Do you.. Haley's voice lowers. ..Could someone, someone of ours, have let them in?

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Haley makes her way down when most of the meal has been served and eaten, and the patrons already left for work. She is drying her hair with a thick cloth, her skin scrubbed and clean, and she yawns the last of her exhaustion away.

She is wearing borrowed cloths for Ameiko which includes tight breeches, leather boots and a brilliant corset and flowing tunic in the Tian style and colors. In her right hand is a fistful of ribbons in the vibrant hues of a strong fire. Reds, oranges and golds.

Haley sits at the table, draping the damp towel near the fire to dry, and begins to weave the ribbons into loose strands of her hair.

So... She pulls over a plate of cooling pastries and runs her finger across the honey glaze before bringing it to her lips. What is on the agenda today?

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Ron Swanson!!

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Haley opens her eyes and yawns long and contently. There is a slight ache in her muscles from yesterdays battle and the alcohol from the night before, but the joy of being young and alive in new circumstances is more potent than any mere hangover.

Her robes, tattered and bloody, are crumpled in a corner so she stands using the sheet as a makeshift garment. There are a few coins left in her backpack and she is hoping she can afford a warm bath and something clean and stylish to wear. Something the color of fire, she muses to herself.

The smell of breakfast cooking downstairs catches her attention and she runs a free hand back through her mane of red hair. Her tattoos seem to glow in the warmth of the morning sun pouring through the window. They seem to be revitalized by the heat.

There is a lot to do today, all things considered. A goblin that needs talking to and a town that could use some cleaning up. Then there is the dead and the time of mourning that follows. A new day breaks over Sandpoint full of new wonder and opportunity.

But first...breakfast. Haley says with a grin.

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Haley thinks on it a moment and smirks. You know Savarend, I'm perfectly capable of being half of those things you described and I've still got many years left to learn the rest. She eyes what is left in the dwarf's mug and walks her fingers closer to the beverage playfully. So, what is this about stealing gold? She says innocently.

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Haley grins at the older halfling. There won't be any ringing of necks while we are around, dear heart, haven't you heard? We are the heroes of Sandpoint and we will keep you safe! Haley says a bit too loudly while lifting the large wooden mug up with both hands (which is quite empty..) in an impromptu toast.

Her blue eyes look down at the keys with their wooden dragon scale decoration and she says in wonder. Are dragon scales truly as big as this? Even cast in wood they are beautiful, no? She looks up at her gathered companions. Can you imagine what it must be like to see one? A real dragon! Thousands of glistening scales like gemstone and a heart that burns like the storms themselves. She licks her lips and looks down longingly at her empty mug.

I imagine it must be the most majestic and terrifying thing in all of Golarion to witness a dragon in flight and to know that if its eye falls upon you there is nothing you can do to alter its will.. Haley seems lost in the concept and she looks away a moment.

However, she blinks and returns her attention to Corwin with a coy smile. Did you say something about free drinks?

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

*sneaks about. Steals the TV. Slinks out*

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Haley looks to Dairkal and gives him a smile. You are too kind, Sir Dairkal, but I'm certain that apple has addled your vision. I've been told that a woman as tattooed as I was too strange and unnatural to be truly beautiful. She laughs and gestures to her tattered and stained attire. And after the days events I'm sure I've only added to that allure.. She says sarcastically.

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

I love the story Savarend! What is it from?

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Haley's face shifts along with Savarend's tale from initial excitement, to mirth, from emotion to final contemplation. She is in fact humming along with the tune at the story's end. When the dwarf utters the last line, Haley laughs and puts her hands together in overzealous applause. She has, in fact, drained the rest of her own ale in the telling and sways slightly in her chair.

Master dwarf, what a fine and memorable tale! She grins, then thinks on it, and raises an eyebrow. But what truly happened to Joeabb? Does no one know?

She tilts her head to Dairkal and Masao. Perhaps he runs the streets of halfling towns or sings his heart's dirge on the highest peaks of Tian-Xi? She is hoping the other two have heard variations of the story and are willing to share.

In the cloistered halls of Magnimar's academy songs and stories were frowned upon, as was the mention of bards or jesters. Magic was a serious matter and only the most astute and intelligent could truly understand it, they had told her.

But there is magic in the mind.. She muttered to herself alone. And magic in the blood too, I'd wager.. She whispers.

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

After making it to the inn, the group settles down around a small table and each orders a drink. Haley orders a nice stout ale in the biggest mug available and tilts it to her lips. Normally, she drinks fruit-laced wines or cold spring water, but today merits something a little heartier. The ale is full and heavy and she can feel its presence after draining a quarter of its contents.

She places her chin in her palm, propped up on one elbow. Listening intently to the various stories, quips and speeches her new found allies give, Haley experiences a strange sense of family she has never felt before. She misses E-Terah and Alaren.

When Masao shares his words on honor and the code of the warrior she tilts her eyes to him and gives the Tian her full attention.

Enlightenment is what a true warrior seeks, not conflict. But should conflict come upon him he must be ready to meet it without hesitation to protect those that may be in his charge, including himself. Does that make sense?" Masao asks before draining his drink evenly and setting it back down on the table.

Haley eyes her own ale, but decides she needs to empty out her thoughts before pouring in the beverage.

My father always told me that fools rush in. He'd be furious if he knew I took part in that fight today, but I think...maybe proud on the inside. Did we truly experience enlightenment out there? She looks over at the cold and empty hearth in the corner. I don't feel enlightened...I feel tired and sore. I feel shook up and sad about those people who died. That poor dog...

Haley looks back at the others, chewing her bottom lip slightly and looking somewhat ashamed. But I feel more alive today than I ever have before. Does that make me a terrible person?

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Take your time! Real life comes first.

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Actually, we all just sort of..came together back there.. Haley says moving with the others. I've never seen anything like it, really. Everyone was running one way and then Alaren, E-Terah, Sir Dairkal here and Masao..they all went running TOWARDS the goblins. She pauses as though playing the memory through her mind for the first time.

She blinks and looks to Savarend. I don't know why. I just knew inside that I had to follow them no matter what was on the other side. Curious, isn't it, the things that compel us..

Haley shakes the strange sensation away and extends her arms up and over her head in a stretch. And now we shall come together for wine, and sweets and captivating stories! Do you know a tale or two, Master dwarf?

Haley bids Aldern a pleasant goodbye. I look forward to seeing you again, Mr Foxglove. The truth is, the prospect of a warm bath and rest is a very alluring prospect.

Tossing her wild mane of red hair back from her face she makes her way over to Dairkal. She is happy to be alive, around friends and is in the mood for some mischief to enliven her spirits. You, sir, were quite amazing back there. I didn't know your dagger was as sharp as your wit! Let's head over to the Rusty Dragon and I'll buy you an apple or two.. She grins playfully and skips away from him if he decides to retaliate.

Moving swiftly away, Haley manages to bump into Savarend who is walking beside them to the inn. Ohhh, I'm sorry! She laughs. Extending her hand she realizes she must look like a mess, but she doesn't care.

I'm Haley! Are you at all related to E-Terah? She realizes how foolish her question is and continues. I guess not all dwarves know each other, huh?

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Haley nods to Ameiko and looks up to the noble. The truth is, as much as she wants to know what prompted the goblin attack, she doesn't have the heart for interrogation in regards to the prisoner.

Why don't we all go get a drink, clean up, maybe hear a story or two from Dairkal to clear our minds.. She hesitates. I just think, after all of this death, we need to...to just live for the night..

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

This is my last post on my upcoming S&S PbP campaign (I don't want to bogart the Discussion thread here..). I just wanted all of you who are interested in playing to have a chance to get a submission in before I select party members. For the most part, I will be giving you guys priority since you are my homeboys and homegirls. =) Selections will be taking place sometime late tonight or tomorrow.

Now, back to those wacky, rising runelords!

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Haley hesitates, unsure of how to react, but is excited by the prospect. She takes the nobleman's arm and tilts her head to him. I'm Haley, by the way. Haley Kindel. I never did catch your name back there behind the crates.. She grins playfully, testing the man's pride and personality. Haley nods her head in agreement with Dairkal's words and is again impressed by his way with people.

She takes note of Ameiko and Zantus and lifts a hand to them, happy to know they are both alright.

The commotion with the Sheriff gathers everyone's attention and she focuses in on the confrontation. The two Dwarves seem to have gone on the defensive in regards to Hemlock's accusations. E-Terah's string of ears is a grim reminder of the attack. Haley suddenly remembers that one goblin in Sandpoint still has his ears, and more importantly, his crooked little mouth.

Maybe we should try and get some information out of Alaren and Masao's prisoner.. She suggests. The dye has been cast on Sandpoint, but that doesn't mean we can't find out who spilled the ink here..

Skull and Shackles Campaign

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Haley noticed Masao in the distance binding a surviving goblin. She also took note of the group approaching, including the powerfully built dwarf. Friends, she hoped. Perhaps friends with some answers.

She felt the weight of E-terah's hand on her shoulder and she flinched slightly at the sting of pain..but that soon melted away into soothing warmth and in moments the wound was completely healed. She beamed and suddenly threw her arms around the she-dwarf. Oh thank you! On a more logical and normal day, Haley may have extended more caution and decorum when dealing with these strange new folk, but the battle had frayed her senses and she felt only an overwhelming gratitude and comfort in their presence.

She looked to Alaren and smiled as the elven woman asked her of her wounds. Thanks to E-terah I'm better than I was before, I think. Haley knelt down beside Dairkal to make sure his swollen eye was only superficial. And how is everyone else? Did we all...make it?

The words of the militiaman catch her attention and she tilts her head to them.
The Sheriff has asked us to rendezvous with all able bodied combatants at the Temple square after our perimeter sweep. I think you lot qualify, and then some. She hears one of them say.

Then something E-terah grumbled rises to the surface of her memory.

Wait...invest in armor? Why would I do that? This can't possibly happen again, can it?

Blades and Magic and Bolts! Oh My!

The commando died from all sides- a focal point to the vengeance and protection the gathered heroes served up in Sandpoint's name. That it continued to still smile its wide arching death-grin was a horrid reminder of the twisted glee these murderous creatures received from their own machinations.

Haley stood there a moment unable to register what she was feeling. Victory and companionship. Sorrow and horror. Pain and pleasure. Her small crossbow clattered to the ground at her feet as the nobleman swept her attention up.

You. You…saved me.. She heard the man say and she tried to keep her eyes on his eyes, but she found them wandering. There was cheerful Dairkal edging close to the group. The slender figure of Alaren was prowling the perimeter with bow in hand. E-terah was trudging towards her, muttering words to herself while delving out deep Dwarven wisdom and preparing a healing spell. In a moment of keen metallic clarity she thought they must all be her family now. A family at arms together.

Never have I witnessed such courage before. . Her eyes returned to the noblemen again as he went to one knee and took her hand. Gods, they were courageous, weren't they? A city in peril and they had stood against their foes!

She felt a whisper of lips against her tattooed hand and a flush crept up her neck. . . or witnessed one with such beauty.

Haley laughed! Openly and loudly. Beauty? She could hardly contain the dark humor that had passed over her. The poor blood stained dandy and the scared, battered girl in the torn robes.

She grinned at him. Well, I'm just glad you are alright. And for the record, I'm no noble's daughter, so know that you waste your kisses and your kind gestures on the child of a poor merchant. She said without shame.

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Ok my sweet gamer family- check out the Skull and Shackles Player's guide and start brainstorming on some characters if you want to play! I'll make a campaign thread for it in the next few days and move the conversation there (I don't want to bog down the RotRL Discussion with another game). I'll add guidelines and rules for character creation and take any questions or comments there. Remember, think piratey! =)

Also..I think Haley's crit broke the GM. =P Busy day Mr. Iron D? *whispers* Borderlands 2? Iron Kingdom RPG? Work? 0_0

Hey guys! I'm thinking of GMing a Paizoboards Skull and Shackles (variant) campaign here! What do I need to do to get started? Do you have to sign up to GM a game?

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Here is Haley's crit confirmation roll for the last post.

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

Yaaay!

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

A miss. Another miss. One in ten times, right little Haley? You always hit it one in ten times.

She could picture her father, a little worn around the edges from days spent traveling up and down Varisia, his wagon filled with scrimshaw, parchment and chalk. He was a merchant by trade, but truly he loved new places far more than he loved making coin. It was in his blood...

The blood. Surely, she was his blood. His daughter. Yet, as of today, she knew that wasn't completely true. Her bloodline ran far more ancient than the sweet man who bought her the small crossbow cradled against her chest.

I..I am the daughter of flame.. She said to herself lost in the revelation of it. She blinked, the pain in her arm making her dizzy. She suddenly lifted her gaze to the commando and shouted to him. She commanded his attention with the volume of her proclamation.

What are you compared to my lineage?! Tears edged the blue of her eyes and matched the cool swirl of the tattoos etched along her face. Tattoos that had appeared as suddenly and as strangely as the mighty fire she called forth earlier today.

I am the child of fire!

She raised her crossbow, licked her lips, and imagined the white streak on the ship's mast back in Magnimar. But in her mind, she wasn't merely firing a crossbow- she had ascended above it on powerful wings and consumed the entire shipwreck in an inferno.

Haley fires her bow at the commando

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
1d8 ⇒ 3 x 2= 6 Dmg

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

*Hope this helps =)

Unarmed Attacks: Striking for damage with punches, kicks, and head butts is much like attacking with a melee weapon, except for the following:

Attacks of Opportunity: Attacking unarmed provokes an attack of opportunity from the character you attack, provided she is armed. The attack of opportunity comes before your attack. An unarmed attack does not provoke attacks of opportunity from other foes, nor does it provoke an attack of opportunity from an unarmed foe.

An unarmed character can't take attacks of opportunity (but see “Armed” Unarmed Attacks, below).

“Armed” Unarmed Attacks: Sometimes a character's or creature's unarmed attack counts as an armed attack. A monk, a character with the Improved Unarmed Strike feat, a spellcaster delivering a touch attack spell, and a creature with natural physical weapons all count as being armed (see natural attacks).

Note that being armed counts for both offense and defense (the character can make attacks of opportunity).

Unarmed Strike Damage: An unarmed strike from a Medium character deals 1d3 points of bludgeoning damage (plus your Strength modifier, as normal). A Small character's unarmed strike deals 1d2 points of bludgeoning damage, while a Large character's unarmed strike deals 1d4 points of bludgeoning damage. All damage from unarmed strikes is nonlethal damage. Unarmed strikes count as light weapons (for purposes of two-weapon attack penalties and so on).

Dealing Lethal Damage: You can specify that your unarmed strike will deal lethal damage before you make your attack roll, but you take a –4 penalty on your attack roll. If you have the Improved Unarmed Strike feat, you can deal lethal damage with an unarmed strike without taking a penalty on the attack roll.

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

* The Pathfinder Battles minis are fantastic! I saved up for months and bought a case of both. While they are rather expensive, the quality is superb, and they really bring a lot to our local tabletop. Especially if you are running an IRL campaign of Rise of the Rune Lords since the new minis were specifically sculpted for it. I hope they do a set for Skull and Shackles. Arr! (Happy Speak Like a Pirate Day) =)

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

The pain is mounting..the cut is not clean. A terrible heat comes from the wound and Haley blinks away this new sensation along with any threatening tears.

With the noblemen behind her, she bites her bottom lip and lifts her crossbow towards the last remaining goblin.

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

The bow kicks against her injured shoulder and she bites down harder on her lip to still the pain.

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Thank you Iron D!

While the fire has failed to rise at her summons, Haley's simple cantrips have done what little they can to buy them some time. She was learning to trust in them like never before. When she notices the commando's eyes glaze over, and -suddenly- the snarling dog attacks, she pulls hard on the noble's hand to lead him away from the crates.
Come on, handsome, we have to get out of here. We might not a get another chancc..GODS!

Something hefty and metal runs along her forearm, wickedly sharp, before momentum drags it away. Tears edge her eyes..she has never been cut before and certainly not in the heat of a battle. Still struggling to pull the noble along, Haley glances back at the wound.

Her tattoos have parted away from the gash, slithering up towards her shoulder seeking unmarred flesh like serpents escaping a flame. Her blood seems far too bright to her- almost comical- and she feels she may pass out if she looks too hard.

Just over the vivid blue of the noble's waistcoat she can see her attacker. The mangy goblin had mounted several crates to ambush her and was barking out in the victory of its blades brutal contact.

Attempting to tug the Noblemen through the rest of the crates, she sets his hand free and stands between him and the goblin. Lifting her undamaged arm, her fingers move quickly as though sorting through pages or the fibers of cloth.

Haley attempts to continue to move the noblemen and herself, half speed, away from the fight. Haley casts Daze on her attacker. DC 14 Will Save

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Yay! Floating townsfolk heads!

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Did the commando pass or fail his will save for Daze? It is a DC 14 and it looks like he rolled a 5 if that roll was for Haley's spell and not something else. If the Daze triggered Haley would have moved to the mentioned squares in the last post, though, the second goblin could certainly have still reached her and struck!

Female Human (Sorcerer 1) HP 8/8 AC 13

Seeing the goblin commando stride above her on the blood stained crate was a thing of new found terror. The wide and gnarled maw was twisted at intense angles in what could only be a grin of sheer pleasure and adrenaline fueled passion at the situation. The dog's head made her stomach twist in knots. A cocktail of fear and anger in her chest.

Over the monster's shoulder she could see a second goblin winging its way to her and the noble.

We have to get out of here! She said to him, squeezing his hand and tugging him to his feet. Run when I say when-

Flashing her fingers forward, the tattoo of an abstract eye on the back of her hand seemed to come alive! Shifting blue spirals blinked open and close- the symbolic orb in the center taking on the hypnotic patterns of dancing flame.

Haley casts Daze. DC 14 Will Save

If the Goblin Commando falls under the effects of the spell, Haley will spend her move action pulling the Noble to safety- placing herself at A17 with him directly behind her at A16. She'd then level her small crossbow and await the goblin's chaotic turn. If the Commando is NOT dazed she remains where she is, too fearful and frustrated to slip away.
