Hefting his axe Gwernach Nickelbeard, only son of Gilbar & Helil Nickelbeard, nods solemnly and makes his way down the dark passage in the direction of a creature none of them had seen before. The dwarf knows not what awaits him or his companions at the end of this hallway. He does not know if they will ever see another living soul or that strange temple in the middle of the desert again.
As the ranger's form fades into the shadow of the hall, his boot treads unnoticingly upon a small pool of slime.

Yeah I agree with Yildiri, not many player characters sit down to have a heart to heart in the middle of a dungeon or where ever. Doesn't happen to much in real life either - or maybe I'm just weird. I like the idea of revealing tidbits about a character in play however this is largely through action and, as Terq expressed, thought bubbles. Then there are those characters that have not quite grown on me versus those which pop and are a lot of fun to play. Sorry to say, Gwernach is one of those former characters I have going and his posts may not be as interesting.

I think a number of things have contributed to this but a slow posting rate is chief and kills most on line forums. For my part, I've been caught up in RL and have not had the time I did this time last year so I feel partly to blame.
There was a driving motivation when we first entered the temple however now that we are lost and separated from Mr. Andersen, the guy who brought us here in the first place, *shrugs* it feels like we started on adventure and got side lined into another.

Seeing the creature's look in its eye Gwernach raises his weapon growling, I donna see any sense in talk'n. Tis a corn'red beastie now. If he is not already, the dwarf bravely moves to the front of the group to meet the creature.

Giving MARVIN his best, don't let us get lost look, Gwernach quietly makes for the intersection and the passage leading to the right. As he approaches the corner the dwarf slows, hugging the wall to peer around the corner without completely exposing himself to what might be there.

My mistake, thought they were robed but actually just grey (Does this mean the grey lizard like thing was naked?!) Point is I'm pretty sure there is more than just the gargoyle thing lurking about and Gwernach would rather trudge after the more peaceful of the two - based on what he's seen the ugly one do.

As for MARVIN's suggestion, this dwarf would much rather be following one of the robed figures than something with known carnivorous preferences and says as much, Does it 'ave ta be tha ugly one? Gwernach looks to Yildiri and Sasithorn for their opinions adding, MARVIN's right, we should da-cide quick-lay. Do we follow tha critter or search 'round for tha myst-ary robed bloke?

Puzzled by the creature's decision to bolt, Gwernach watches in amazed silence. The dwarf breaks his vow only after the creature disappears and does not return, Ah donna think he's suppos'd ta be 'ere eith'r. Motioning for the others he tries to piece some of the puzzle together, Right. Tis a good chance we're not in tha temple anymore an them alcoves may be doorways back or someplace else. Tha critt'r, Gwernach nods his head in the direction of the creature, Twernt tha same as tha robed one. Am think'n they's enemies or tha like. We're intrud'n, jus as ugly there, yet tha rob'd bloke didn't run off a shout'n. So maybe we're no threat, or maybe we ain't tha first ta visit. Gwernach looks to the others in turn for their opinions and own assessments.

As Sasithorn keeps an eye on the creature Gwernach whispers over his shoulder to the others, Tain't attack'n, Ah'm think'n a guardian o'some such. Like them gargoylies. Looks like one. Should we try'n speak with it? Learn its motivation? The dwarf gives the others his best, "you do the talking" look.

Gwernach's eyes go wide. Doing some quick sums about what he knows of this thing, Is tha tha same one eat'n a wee while ago?, he figures the creature is not likely to kill him, at least not yet. The thing's just eaten, right? Or had it? Should he say something? It would have to be something wise. A formal greeting of some sort...Nothing. Whispering a soft curse to himself the dwarf keeps watch on the critter as he quickly waves the others over, Oi! We've gotta thing 'ere. With his free hand he makes a quick mime of wings and fangs then holds his attention on the beast, hoping it isn't still hungry.

The dwarf's eyes widen and his lips suddenly become very dry, Follow ya say? Gwernach rubs a hand over his face and his tongue moistens his lips, Al'right then. Off we go. Ba see'n as we're already loss, he turns to the android, MARVIN we'll be re'lie'n on ya ta keep an accurate route'n outta here.
Having said his piece, Gwernach does his best to quietly step down the passage in the direction the creature went.

Tha didn't seem like tha, "Quick, follow may" kinda gesture. Gwernach grips his war axe firmly keeping it handy adding, Ah ain't one ta follow mysterious be'ins, we can finda place ta hide or try go'in back tha way we came. What 'ave ya?

With the others just as stunned as he, Gwernach takes a chance. There is no telling who or what this being is, yet it walks upright, wears clothes and is likely an intelligent sort. Taking a deep breath, Gwernach raises a finger to his lips as the universal gesture for quiet then raises the same hand opening it palm forward in a nonthreatening greeting. The dwarf adds a smile for good measure and whispers to the others, Less keep thangs nice n'friend-lay, yeah?
Gwernach has a -1 to his diplomacy skill, it might be better if someone else tries to speak to it.

Nodding in agreement, Gwernach hefts his axe and squints. Following the markings Yildiri indicated looks harder than he'd originally figured. With a quick jerk of his head, the ranger signals for her to take the lead.

Tis a message lass, and by message Gwernach is referring to the beyond which he implies by glancing up at the ceiling, whatever's thare ain't for us, less no yet. The dwarf has no interest in banging his head against an invisible barrier, not when there are other places to look. Less no waste anymore than we need ta explor'n thas place. Mr. Parker'll be waiting on us an we donna need ta have all mysteries solved for'em.

Finishing his examination of the body Gwernach stands, Ya know, Ah'm not entir'lay shur thas 'ere's a snake. Gwernach does the classic quotation gesture meaning like a snake but not a real snake, just with snake like qualities, Look's moor like a lizard. Again with the finger quotations. Leass judge'n by tha joint. The dwarf points to a section of the tail which have been fused, Much like a knee joint, yeah?
Trail leed's ta tha right, shall we? The ranger sticks out a thumb to indicate the blood trail and no sooner does he complete the gesture than he is quietly heading in the general direction.

Gwernach winces as Yildiri yanks back the curtain. To his relief the creature that was once there is gone and all appears to be well. But now the mystery of where it had gone and what it was feeding upon lays before them. Shifting his war axe to his off hand, the Gwernach steps into the intersection and kneels to examine the serpent like humanoid. As he checks the thing for anything useful about its demise or what it might have been doing, Gwernch racks his brain to recall anything he might know of this species. At last the dwarf ponders out loud, 'Alf snake, ya? Seen anyth'ng like thas before?

Gwernach shrugs his shoulders and tries to recall having read or encountered anything of similar appearance. Unfortunately nothing comes to mind, What is it about this thing? Is it the smell? Whatever it is, the dwarf is drawing a blank and doesn't seem to know if it is a good idea to attack it or wait on the others to decide for him. Stepping quietly off to the side the ranger whispers, Ah donna know wha tha is, but Ah do have a bad feel'n 'bout it. If Ah had ta guess, Ah'd say ghoul. Those smell bad an this one 'ere donna smell all tha nice.

Gently returning the curtain to its original resting position Gwernach turns to Sasithorn. Although it is clear to the caster that Gwernach is attempting to pass some message along, the weird face and spastic twitching of the dwarf's hands and neck make it nearly impossible to determine just what it is the ranger is trying to communicate. Gwernach's accent probably doesn't help his efforts either.
Seeing the blank look of Sasithorn's expression, Gwernach sighs inwardly and gives up resorting to the universally accepted single finger to the lips gesture.

Giving the inquisitor the go ahead to cast her spell, Gwernach readies his axe. In the ranger's experience, the smell of death in the air is not a good omen, especially in a world where flesh eating undead creatures are very real. Putting his best sneak step to use the dwarf creeps down the hall and uses the tip of his axe to gently peel back the edge of the curtain.

More than a little curious of what Yildiri sensed through her magic, with a nod of his head Gwernach indicates the north and eastern passages then quizzes the girl, What did ya sense down there? As Yildiri responds, the dwarf peers down each of the passages, hoping his own senses will pick up a clue or two.

As the blue-white light washes over the dwarf few vertebrae snap into alignment forcing Gwernach to wince and roll his shoulders. There is visible relief on the ranger's face, even the dried blood which had previously caked his beard seem to have been 'washed' away. Ahh! Tha hit tha spot lass! Ma ut-most grat-ti-tude to ya, taa!
Reaching into his pack, Gwernach retrieves a plain wooden box and miniature woolen sack containing bite sized hunks of dried salted meat. The walls of the box are incredibly thin. Strengthened by a lacquer and glue mixture, the box contains a small variety of biscuits. Opening both containers Gwernach offers, Any takers? before popping a wedge of meat into his mouth.
Gwernach rests for only long enough to relieve the growing void in his stomach before suggesting the group press on once more. Barring any resignations, the dwarf moves to the end of the sentry's corridor. Although he tries, the dwarf's attempts at being stealthy don't go as well as he'd hoped as his foot catches a piece of sentry sending the scrap sailing across the floor.

Gwernach watches the sentry for a moment, his war axed held at the ready in case the thing starts to twitch back to life. When it is clear the machine has spun its last the dwarf clears his nose of congealed blood then wipes his forehead with a rag. Looking tired the dwarf glances over at MARVIN, Ya're look'n a bit run down. Turning to the others the dwarf suggests, We should find'a place ta rest, sup' some rations an let tha android recharge...or someth'n.
Voting to rest/heal up a bit before pressing on. We've not covered a lot but Gwernach has dropped to below half. Anyone got some healing mojo?

Deciding his best tactic was his first, mainly trying not to get hit, Gwernach resumes his dwarven hauf defense. Raising his axe blade, the dwarf keeps the weapon at shoulder height, passing it in front of himself in an elliptical arch whenever the sentry appears to be throwing another punch his way.

With a bloodied nose and tearing eyes, the dwarf's luck feels as though it has changed. With his eyes still seeing double, Gwernach finds himself no longer able to focus on the spinning creature and his axe swings wildly missing the thing by a full foot.

His eyes tearing up, Gwernach takes a step backward from the blow to his face but quickly recovers. Copying some of the sentinel's tactics, the dwarf spins angling the blade of his waraxe parallel to the ground as he goes and slamming it into the side of the thing.

Sensing the sentry may be confused by his defensive strategy, Gwernach makes his move. Raising his war axe, he lets the sentry's attack pass harmlessly by then brings his blade down.

Having lost count, or perhaps it was because the sentry changed up its timing, the dwarf winces from the sentries wooden fist strike. Gwernach spins in an attempt to lessen the impact, but this too is mistimed and in completely the wrong direction. Undaunted, the stubborn dwarf renews his hauf defense muttering to himself as he takes it from the top, An bloke, pa-ray, shift...bah! no thas no right. Shift, bloke, pa-ray...
