Male Half Orc Skald (War Drummer)

Stepping forward Gurthock points a massive club at the archers. "FALL!"

Move to square just south of Medren. Cast Grease on the two squares with the archer and hyena in them and the two squares north.

8 rounds of inspiring rage left.

Male Half Orc Skald (War Drummer)

"Yes! Yes let the rhythm of the Lord in Iron take you! Let the beat of battle flow through you and carry you into victory!"

Move to the square just south of Jaren.

Activate Inspired Rage

Inspired Rage:
Inspired Rage (Su) At 1st level, affected allies gain a +2 morale bonus to Strength and Constitution and a +1 morale bonus on Will saving throws, but also take a –1 penalty to AC. While under the effects of inspired rage, allies other than the skald cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills (except Acrobatics, Fly, Intimidate, and Ride) or any ability that requires patience or concentration.

Jaren might still be able to use most maneuvers I would think as long as they're not required to have patience or concentration. DM's discretion however.

The other group should still be able to get th bonuses if they can here Gurthock's mad drum solo.

Male Half Orc Skald (War Drummer)

"Looks like dead meat." The brutish half orc says grinning maniacally.

Male Half Orc Skald (War Drummer)

Gurthock partners best with melee guys it should be said. Raging song doesn't give much to casters or archers without the adaptive feature on their bow.

Male Half Orc Skald (War Drummer)

Here I am.

^This sounds like the prelude to a horrible gorey death or a terrifying murder spree.

Appearance:
Gurthock is a largely built hafl orc that most certainly appears to emphasize the feral and primal traits of his orcish rather than his human half. Hefting a huge club he beats out the deep rhythm in your heart that calls for bloodshed and conflict. His yellow eyes blaze with an unquenchable fury that only blood combat and the roar of the crowd can fulfill.

Future:
I'm riding this skald train all the way baby. I never multiclass if I can help it. Rage power wise I haven't decided yet as this isn't exactly going into barbarian territory. I'd want soemthing that synergizes best with the group. So, need to think more on that.

In the meantime my character is very simple, throw out spells, hit things with stick, beat chest cause awesome, repeat.

Just noting my presence and continued interest. I actually ave most of the crunch done on both potential mechanics for him BArbarian 17 (Champion/Marshal) Dual pathed for one and Inquisitor 17 (Hierophant/Champion) for the other.

Your talking to a guy who could sunder demiplanes before mythic.

how did you pull that off? I just thought it was pretty crazy to get 56d8 because if you went average health and damage, its pretty much a one hit ko on anything without a high Con and hit die. especially if you start tacking on things like haste, and throw on some elemental damage, and spend ki for an extra attack you could up it to 81d8 then spend a mystic point to take another turn and repeat the process, albeit at half the power. So we are talking 121d8 if you want to push it. have someone enlarge you or cast lead blades and its even more (at that point you are 2 conversions off of the damage increment table)

almost forgot
** spoiler omitted **

Spell sunder is a pretty crazy thing.

Honestly I'm hoping the GM changes the extra turn thing as it looks like it's going to be cut anyway seeing as the man himself voiced concerns about it. And frankly in this format taking another turn out of initiative is such a amssive pain in the ass I'd rather not deal with it either as a player or gm. (For the record the Mythic homebrew im running changed it to an extra move or standard action that can be taken on your turn)

Time to resurrect an otherwise defunct alias. Let's make him truly "mythic".

Background: Gurthock Fleshmincer is one of Gorum's Eternal Champions; warriors blessed with the Lord in Iron's immense strength and power to bring battle and conflict wherever they might tread. Gurthock's past is something of a mystery having only showed up in the Lands of the Linnorm kings some ten years past Gurthock has showed up in nearly every major battle in the north ever since. Fighting for whatever side strikes his fancy Gurthock has reveled in the carnage of battle and tests of strength such that only great legends and ancient heroes might even close to matching his deeds for good or ill.

As to his past before his endless march of battle? He laughs. "What good is my story going to do you in battle today? Will it make you a competent swordsman? Will it pierce the armor? Shatter the shield? No, Gorum demands battle, and battles are for the here and now. I will not regale you with tales of victory and metal. Today I will make a story of victory. That is all you need to know."

Gurthock's entry into Irissen surprises few who know of him and worry's all who have heard of him. The Fleshmincer's coming is a herald of grand conflict and bloody wars to come. In the year that he has spent there the witches have had to put down no less then seven village revolts and found themselves in bloody conflicts with Ulfen barbarians on all sides of their borders. That the Eternal Champion of Gorum is somewhere in their country doing Gorum's work is no small concern.

Depending on group make up Gurthock will either be a half orc Inquisitor of Gorum/Hierophant or a straight human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager)/Champion. Always prefer being what a group might need.

I have an odd feeling that our would-be DM may be a bit delayed if not outright abandoning the idea.

And another attempt for Gurthock to become King.

Thirded adn thank you for consideration.

Not sure where I sit on the chosen/not chosen scale, but I would prefer to be able to do the Kingdom building. My apologies to myself or others that may not get to play because that would limit DM Kalizar to one group. But the Kingdom building portion of the AP is one of the main things that has drawn me to it over the other AP's.

I agree. If you want to run a second group I'd suggest doing with a separate AP and just have the characters convert over to that one. Wouldn't be too hard honestly.

Ehhhhh I'm going to withdraw Gurthock from the running then. The concept kind of falls flat when there's not even a chance at rule and charisma is pretty much all he is.

According to the Kingmaker player's guide there's several areas Cha based as follows:

Ruler: Charisma
Councilor: Wisdom or Charisma
General: Strength or Charisma
Grand Diplomat: Intelligence or Charisma
High Priest: Wisdom or Charisma
Magister: Intelligence or Charisma

I guess I can keep my App in for General given his militaristic nature. Yeah, might as well.

Here's my submission from another game using 20 pointbuy. He can be adjusted to fit your needs rather easily. Trick is he's using UM material.

He probably would not be satisfied with somethign less than ruler. BUT, given someone in the party that earns his respect in some way he can easily be swayed another way.

Guthrock, What questions do you have?

1. Can I heal my eidolon or get the eidolon healed as a synthesist? The issue with this is that I gain the eidolons hp as temporary hitpoints. By RAW temporary hitpoints can't be healed. Thus, by raw the first time my eidolon gets banished and I get "powered down" so to speak it will always comeback at half hitpoints and it never heals naturally. You can see the issue in this.

2. Ability damage is kind of confusing. Will it apply to both my eidolon and myself? Will it only apply to whoever's scores are being used at the time(ie. my mental, its physicals)? Or will it apply to us but I will be the only sufferer when it is banished?

3. When the eidolong takes ability damage, sasdly it will not heal naturally, and sadder still it won't be able to get that ability damage dealt with until at least third level when the cleric can start throwin out lesser restoration spells. You can see how this is problematic.

I'm sure more will come up as I think about. Do apologize for the extra work.

I'm gonna need a lot fo clarification and rulings on how synthesists work when and if I get accepted. Nothing huge. But things have been brought to my attention that would make thigns difficult if I don't see about them. Honestly if I knew it was going to be this much pain I'd have picked a druid.

Gurthock is nering completion. Doing some interesting things to make the mechnics fit the concept. Just need to buy the necessary gear and follow that up with a separate alias to represent his fused form.

Aaaannnddd back with the background.

Background:
Gurthock is a man posessed. It was difficult enough being born among the savage barbarians of the Tiger Lords and orphaned. What was worse was his decrepit body. He was shunned, bullied, and abused even by his own mother as a pathetic weakling. It was only natural then that he eventually turned towards other means of power. Learning the ways of magic he concocted a ritual to gain the attention of the dark gods for only they would know the anger adn hatred in his heart and only they would answer.

One night, in secret, he gathered all the arcane knowledge at his dispoasl and retreated to a dark cave. Within he drew a glowing pattern made of mashed insects into the rock incorporating the unholy symbosl of his dark gods.

For Lamashtu, he took an effigy of his enemies and disfigured it beyond recognition swearing to sire many children in her name.

For Gorum he bellowed loudly challenging all his enemies swearing by Gorum to slay and battle in his name.

For Calistria he endured the stings of a hornets nest while swearing to seek vengeance on all those who slight him.

He did this for several days without food, water or rest. By the end he slipped itno a coma. Death or empowerment he did not care all he desired was an ending.

Something answered. He does not know who, or from where, or evne particularly why he awoke outside of the cave rippling with an alien power. No god visited him and no otherworldly power swore allegiance. He simply was. And he exulted in it. His form was monstrous, demonic even, but it was powerful.

Returning to his tribe he was met with unease and fear, even paranoia, but his challenge to the tribes chieftain, a childhood bully for countless years, was answered. The battle was fierce but swift with Gurthock the victor.

However against tribal law he stayed his hand when it came to land the final blow. His ultimate act of vengeance; was mercy. He left the tribal leader broken, battered, and defeated to forever live with his shame. Though Gurthock was banished and was considered a living ghost among his people he didn't care. He left them in peace vowing to rise above their petty hatreds and carve out his own land by word and by sword.

He started out promising enough many flew to his call when they heard of his power believing him to be the blessed of their gods. Unfortunately a raid deep into Restov's territory went poorly and his power gave up on him during a fierce battle.

His followers were slaughtered to a man and he was brought to the swordlords in chains. They had heard of him and his strange power, moreover they had heard of his efforts and were impressed. They gave him an offer, the gallows, or a chance to go into the stolen lands and start a colony. Using his talent and power he'd tame the greenbelt or die trying. IF he attempted to run or work against the swordlords they would make him a wanted man with a bounty so high vikings would come down from the far north to take his head. Simply put, they wanted to buy him off while getting the use of his services. Should he die in the process, that's a bonus.

Reluctantly, he agreed. He is now enroute and under guard to the restlands. In the meantime, he plots his revenge.

Personality: Though distrustful of strangers he puts on a stoic demeanor fitting for the warrior kings of old. He cares for his own above all and cherishes friends above all else, knowing how precious few he has had in his lifetime. He despises bullies and those who torment the weak the most though he will often do little preferring to encourage the weakling to grow strong or to answer the slights given them. He sees his current lot in life as a form of imprisonment that he plans on turning against when the time is ripe. For now, he waits, and bides while in him the dark power grows.

Looks: Gurthock appears in most ways to be a barbarian typical to the region. His numerous scars and twisted nose indicate a harsh life in the wilds. His hair is long and wild containing any number of beads, baubles and animal bones that strike his fancy. He appears physically weak and moves with stiffness and a great deal of effort. When his pwoer is manifested he appears to be a great demonic creature that strikes terror in his enemies and only serves to enhance his already significant presence.

Traits: Brigand, Poverty Stricken

Going to work on the sheet meanwhile. Feeling enthusiastic so sorry if its long.

Male Half Orc Skald (War Drummer)

I'm afraid I'm going to have to drop this game sadly. I've been pressured to actually run one and with what's already on my plate as it is I'm afraid I have to drop something. Feel free to have poor Gurthock murdered brutally by zombies, the party or what not.

Male Half Orc Skald (War Drummer)

Gurthock is informed though for now he puts his massive voice and frame to better uses encouragnig and terrifying the crew.

Male Half Orc Skald (War Drummer)

Well was going to give one of the other charisma based guys a chance to shine but this has been drawn out a bit long.

Gurthock waited patiently for one of the others to take the lead over the sailors. He himself was a terrible sailor and he knew it. Not seeing them try he rolled his eyes and came off his crate with a roar fit for an orc.

"Come on you lousy wharf rats! Get your asses in gear! We've got a job to do! There's plenty of time for pissing your pants in the grave! You can decide who gets to whip your backs for laziness when we get this boat back into shape! You can go home after we've crammed this things sideways down the bastard throat!"

Assuming an hour hasnt passed since the zombie fight.

Diplomacy:1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15

Male Half Orc Skald (War Drummer)

Gurthock leaned back against a crate listening to the two make their arguments.

"Vengeance aside, Elf, he makes a fair point. Whose to say we weren't the lucky ones? We lost a captain either to treachery or a beast that moves with such swiftness even our fleet footed friend here couldn't catch it. The enemy's proven they can attack us at our msot vulnerable and quite frankly I'm a terrible swimmer. I don't think we're going to do this the direct way. Heck, look at the crew. They're scared witless and meander about leaderless. We don't have to abandon our goal but this particular avenue was spent before she got to sight of land."

Male Half Orc Skald (War Drummer)

Gurthock looked about and sighed. Sheathing his sword. "Right, well I guess our secret missions a bust. Unless someone else can give us a good reason why theres an undead horde in the middle of the godforsaken ocean housing things capable of slipping aboard, beating several men to near death and then making off with someone in less than a few seconds? This is awful coincidental."

Male Half Orc Skald (War Drummer)

I'm kind of confused as well. Just roll with it. Dudes are dead now anyway.

Gurthock grunted as he sheathed his blade. "Heh. Leave it to mages to take the fun out of everything."

Surveying the battle Gurthock goes to see what the fuss is about.

Male Half Orc Skald (War Drummer)

Calling out Gurthock waded in to the creatures laying about heads and limbs with his massive cleaving sword. "Form next to me and corral them together! Don't let them get around to the casters and give em something to shoot!"

Move to nearest zombie.
Activate Arcane Strike
Power Attack zombie.

Attack1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Damage2d4 + 15 ⇒ (4, 1) + 15 = 20

Male Half Orc Skald (War Drummer)

Initiative:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

Male Half Orc Skald (War Drummer)

Gurthock burst out laughing at the sight of the soaking wet and foul smelling undead bursting through the wall killing the feeling of dread as surely as his blade would destroy this creature. "HA! HA! HA! Seriously! Do you know how many nameless undead I've hacked into bits in my time!?! You don't even have a name tag! Shuffle back into the sea and I'll pretend this was caused by a strong wind. No! Suit yourself!"

Casting Heroism on myself. Lasts for 60 minutes.

Male Half Orc Skald (War Drummer)

Cursing and muttering he motions to the elf as he stomps up deck to see what the trouble is all about.

Male Half Orc Skald (War Drummer)

Gurthock grunted acknowledgement at the elf behind him as he started bellowing at the crew belowdeck. "Pull your blades and peel your eyes! The paladin girl says theres some wretched thing just under our feet! Get ready to jump when your captain calls on you and make sure they aren't poking holes in our little ride here! Stab everything that moves funny! We had some kind of shadow creature try to get the captain!"

Gurthock bellowed as if used to giving orders. Brandishing and pointing his Falchion like an extension of his arm.

Male Half Orc Skald (War Drummer)

Ha! Gurthock scoffed. "And turn one dangerous situation into a hopeless one? I'm sure a bunch of men huddling together on tiny boats will make delightful targets for mischief."

If we run, we run now and maybe get away, otherwise we fight to the death here and now and be victorious, or at least spared a slow death."

Twirling his massive blade to emphasize the point Gurthock left and started to the lower decks bellowing at anyone down there who might be there to watch themselves and especially watch for leaks.

Male Half Orc Skald (War Drummer)

Drawing his blade the burly Half-orc moved into an advantageous position. "Gods I hate Assassins! RRRAAGGHH!!!"

With a mighty cleave he channeled all his muscle and even his Art into the blow.

Move: Move to shadow while drawing Falchion.
Swift: Arcane Strike
Standard: Power Attack w/Furious Focus

Attack Roll1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Damage Roll 2d4 + 15 ⇒ (3, 1) + 15 = 19

Edit: Oh look at that a Potential Crit. Good, stupid assassins.

Confirm: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

Also +1 damage if I happen to be flanking with Durant.

Male Half Orc Skald (War Drummer)

Initiative1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14

Male Half Orc Skald (War Drummer)

Gurthock turned to watch Yuril leave while taking a long draught of his ale. Spitting it out in shock he stood up in a flash a warning on his lips as his hand reached for his blade.

"YURIL! GET DOWN!"

Male Half Orc Skald (War Drummer)

Perception1d20 + 0 ⇒ (19) + 0 = 19

I'll be happy to end it or whatever unless someone wants to specifically interact further.

"I generally rely on my blade, though I have some talent in the Art. Try not to focus too much myself."

Male Half Orc Skald (War Drummer)

"Blow them apart before they ever get to you?" Gurthock shrugged. Smart. Even if it is boring. He looked at Pernella with an odd glare as she mentioned the lack of bow.

No bow? That's incredibly unwise. What do you plan to do if the enemy decades not to get close to you and that big sword of yours girl? Wave impotently at them with your honor? Taking on a more serious tone he drank more before continuing. That's not a difficult problem though, a good javelin or spear would let you take the fight to them and let you take advantage of whatever muscles you use to swing your sword around. A bow would be preferable but we've shipped off now and I doubt the islands inhabitants will be so helpful as sell you a proper bow. Don't expect evil men to be so generous as to fight on your terms girl.

Turning to the monk he slapped him on the back hard and laughed. If it's all the same to you I think I'll avoid getting punched in the gut on a full stomach!

Male Half Orc Skald (War Drummer)

Gurthock shrugged. "Good! I hate being bored! Captain I doubt there's anyone one with the guts to go on this little misadventure who would shy away a fight with pirates."

Male Half Orc Skald (War Drummer)

Gurthock ate for the joy of eating. It's not that he needed to. He had long since found a ring that took care of his hunger and thirst needs. Still he enjoyed the act of eating meat and drinking wine so he indulged himself on occasion. Ever since he found the pleasure's of feasting enhanced when he partook of it only once in a while rather than daily.

He reached his huge hand to help himself to another serving and call for more wine when the captain spoke. He dropped the portion on to his plate balancing it carefully as not to let it spill on the rocking boat and smiled broadly at him. A disconcerting sight from a half orc.

"Gurthock! Gurthock Fleshmincer, adventurer, at your service! Might I say your cook knows how to prepare a meal!"

He finished his boisterous bellow by finishing his entire cup in a single draught.

Male Half Orc Skald (War Drummer)

I think "away" is a lazy word and I hate it when I'm writing because word never catches it when I write away in stead of a way. Couldn't those of us who speak the english language found a better word then just shoving a vowel in front of an existing one?

Wow we're very melee heavy. At least I won't be lacking flanking buddies.

Funny part is the only other person bothering to pack a ranged weapon is the rather mean and feral looking druid.

It looks like Durant might not yet be done.
