Gridphoenix:
Wizards and sorcerers gain spells differently. RAW allows wizards to choose to learn a certain number of any allowed spell each level. However, they still can find scrolls or spellbooks during their adventuring career and also learn those.
Sorcerers gain "known" spells only when they level, but by RAW they too can choose any allowable spell.
While the GM can modify these rules any way they like, it's generally considered poor form to tell a wizard or sorcerer that a spell they want is not possible to learn with their allowed automatic spell learning on leveling up.
Hi Adamantine Dragon (a fellow dragon :)),
I think I understood the difference. My question was only about NOT overwhelming the new players with a million of spells.
Anyway, thanks for the comment.
