Half Orc Ranger 1
![]() Gregor will do a move into the middle of the clearing, trying to not leave the party too far behind, and then ready an attack for when the orcs move in. Attack:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
I guess you can use either attack rolls. They're likely misses in either case. ![]()

![]() "I got not problems with the map. Besides I know this area pretty well. Don't think I'll have to hold the map all the time," Gregor volunteers. Seeing that everyone looks ready, Gregor begins heading down the path in the order that Alexander suggested. For when everyone is ready: Seeing the orcs, Gregor growls: "A raiding party!" and smashes into the nearest one with his greatsword. Attack:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
I can't figure out why he had a +6 either. I'd guess I was fidgeting around with stats when I first built him, changed something and didn't get all the modifiers right. Thanks for pointing it out. ![]()

![]() Gregor shakes Alexander's hand when it is offered. He then begins digging into his pack, removing his piece of the map. "Evidently, they wanted to teach us a little lesson about getting along together," Gregor says. "I'm Gregor, called the roach by many. You might've heard about me around town. Trouble they say. Accuse me of stealing, leading other kids astray, vandalism. Most of that's not true. I've kept to the woods with Arnama these last couple years," Gregor shrugs after his brief speech. "So what have we got here?" he says, looking at the map. ![]()

![]() Gregor notes the shooting stars and gives a barely visible shrug. Desna's a flighty goddess in his view. Luck, signs, portents: none of that compares to the effects of good hard work, he thinks. "Erastil smile on your servants as they seek to serve your community," Gregor mutters as the foursome makes their way to the edge of the village. ![]()

![]() GM Werebadger: "Oh, I don't mind it all that much," Gregor smiles, packing up his gear, "I've heard a lot worse from the more unfriendly townsfolk. Roaches are survivors, even if they aren't too pretty." Gregor begins heading down the path to Kassen. "So, what do you know about this Everflame stuff? I imagine it can't be too dangerous if the town's willing to send a bunch of kids out to fetch it." ![]()

![]() GM Werebadger: Gregor rubs his eyes. "Now they've got you with the roach thing, too?". He lets out an exaggerated sigh. Roach is not the worst insult his heard in his decade or so around the town of Kassen. Gregor helps clean up the campsite and then leans against a nearby tree. "Just what I want to do: babysit a bunch of spoiled townies on their big camping trip." Gregor's smile reveals that, underneath his gruff exterior, he is immensely pleased to be included in an event as important to Kassen as the Quest for the Everflame. "Any idea who else'll be going? Probably send that Fellblade kid. Everyone's impressed with his way with a sword. Too bad about his charming personality." Gregor laughs and gathers his things to head into town. ![]()

![]() I'll fix the darkvision soon. Thanks again for taking on a game. Alas, I'll have to be absent from thursday to saturday. I'm unexpectedly called out of town. If that is a problem, feel free to kick me out. Otherwise, I'll try to get things started and then Gregor can become suddenly agreeable. ![]()
![]() Alright, I dropped the background into the appropriate section on the profile. And, if you noticed that Gregor talked a little funny in his previous incarnation–don't worry, that aspect of the character is gone. He was originally built as an urban ranger and spoke with a bit of thieves' cant. I just really want to reuse the name, it amuses me for obvious Kafka-related reasons. ![]()
![]() I'd like to offer Gregor the Roach, a half-orc ranger (and a refugee from a pbp that doesn't look like it's going to make it, alas). Gregor was abandoned in Kassen and, due to his dubious heritage, was ostensibly left to fend for himself. But many of the folks in Kassen are decent people at heart and a number of the townspeople looked out for the youngster. Often, Fr. Prasst would let him sleep in the Church of Erastil; often Olmira Treesong or Arnama Lastrid would bring him some food from the wilds; often others would leave out some food or clothes that their kids had outgrown. He survived and learned from those who would teach him. His survival, combined with his orcish looks, earned him the nickname "The Roach." As Gregor aged, he began more and more to run with Arnama on her treks, learning the skills of a ranger from her. He recognizes that she is a bit temperamental and not the best of teachers, but he loves the woods and the wilds. Most folks assume that Gregor will eventually move on from Kassen, that he will seek out some place that will be more forgiving of his heritage and fierce appearance. They are wrong. Gregor nourishes each small act of kindness that enabled him to survive. Kassen is his home, his place. He plans on protecting it, even if the people of Kassen don't fully welcome him. I'm thinking that Gregor's youth was a bit like Huck Finn's. He lived on the outskirts of decent society. Sometimes people would do him a kindness, but they often blamed small crimes on him and worried that he would lead their kids astray (or eat them, if you listen to some stories). Consequently, Gregor has a certain aura of danger about him that interests certain youths. The truth is that Gregor is not much of a rebel at all. He's a fierce believer in Erastil, especially in Erastil's teaching about the virtues of small communities. He's learned to be gruff and to put on a fierce aspect, but Gregor truly loves Essan and the surround areas. ![]()

![]() "I'd just scare the hog-grubbers. I don't really plan on splattering their insides all over the professor's daughter, just leave them blubbering. But go ahead, Sir Elf of the Fox, see if your fair words save those cod's heads some embarrassment," Gregor relaxes his hold on his sword, waiting to see if a fight breaks out. ![]()

![]() Gregor begins sliding the casket to the ground, as gently as he can manage. "Any of you all speak bumpkin? Or should I just go split the unlicked cub from top to bottom?" Once the professor is safely stowed, Gregor begins to draw his sword, but waits for someone of a more diplomatic bent to have their try at defusing the situation. ![]()

![]() "Miss, I'm sorry for your loss. I didn't know your father all that well, but he was kind to me. I'll gladly take up this burden." The speaker, whose savage features mark him as a half orc, leans down to lift up the coffin, looking expectantly at the other mourners, seeking those who would join him. ![]()

![]() So this is Gregor. I haven't filled out his background yet, but the basic idea is that he was found abandoned in a major city, perhaps Caliphas? in Ustalav. He was taken in by some local criminal boss who used him as a thug and enforcer. He's named Gregor the Roach because he's hard to kill and so ugly. At some point, he encountered the professor and helped him out of a jam with the local criminals. When Gregor was informed of the professor's death, he took it as a sign that he should get out of the crime business, especially since Gregor was feeling a bit squeamish about the direction things were headed. Sorry this is all a bit vague. I don't want to step all over the AP or make presumptions about your world Jormungandr. I figured details could firm up as we played. |
