Aye - RoW should be fun... and though I like the Immigrant Song... I had this particular number running through my own whilst writing it ;)

I've pondered and ummed and ahhed and half written a few different attempts at posts... but in the end it comes back to one fact:
By no means am I selfish enough to think that others need to change to suit me - so instead I'm going to step out of the campaign. I know that there has been support for Glorfin's 'serious' role - but it's kind of asking the same person to be the designated driver week in and week out. In the end, Glorfin isn't a personality that fits in with the others in the group - so I'm going to take the stick out of the mud and step back to let you guys keep up the fun. Big thanks to DM Chaos for the original selection and to all for the enjoyment that I have taken out of the PbP thus far - I think I'm in other campaigns with at least half of you anyways, so it's less of a goodbye and more of a see you elsewhere.

To be honest I'm finding Tybek's repeated exuberant outpourings a bit tiring. Glorfin is attempting to be a relatively dour and honorable dwarf... but it seems that half the time Glorfin opens his mouth he'll need to start with either apologising for Tybek or trying to figure out a way to rebuild from where the conversation has ended up. I know that you're trying to RP a 7 Charisma... but he's also got above average Int and Wis - so he should be more than self-aware enough to realise what he's doing. But then again looking at the rest of the party personalities I know that Glorfin is the odd one out - the others are built to be more personable and engaging (or perhaps endure Tybek better). I have thought a couple of times of recusing myself from the campaign.

As Rufus turns to move away, Glorfin grips Tybek violently by the front of his jerkin, drawing the dwarf in very close to his face as the angel touched dwarf speaks with solemn ferocity "You will quiet yourself... now! Think for a blessed second about your words before you curse our ears with them." pulling him closer still "There are likely ears in this town, all the more reason to keep the details which you are so freely giving in confidence! I have the patience of stone kinsman... but you are trying it most dearly" releasing Tybek.

Glorfin manages to speak before his companions this time and does so plainly "Markan, the name that was spoken was Zugtomy... the Queen of Fire. I would speak more on the matter but believe those words would want to be heard by more than just yourself. You have my word that this is a matter that needs be heard in council." speaking with a surety that he thought that was sufficient for the task. Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 Pants

Glorfin puts a hand up against Arindale's more aggressive pose "We have indeed returned to fill your prison once more... and with regret a grave also. Though the two that breathe need be tried... it is the third of whom we need speak with the elders. This time I insist." his words taking on a gravelly sense of finality.

Glorfin holds up a hand and shakes his head to Arindale "I do not believe that beating the zealot will garner any more than we know now. It is clear that his mind is far gone." before he turns back to Zert, still talking in an even and unthreatening voice "But you are wrong in your assertion that a good man cannot kill. I hold allegiance to a Lord of Iron and Fire... and he would only have me stay my hand if there were any hope of redemption... that you would turn from the path you are on and stand with the righteous." "You have shown me no sign that you could be saved, and every sign that you would continue to attempt to corrupt. Unless you show some contrition or virtue I cannot help you." Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 6 + 1 + 1 = 27 Extra +2 to convince a CE person to act LG

Though he sets a steady gaze upon Arindale's mention of coercing information through pain, Glorfin nods "It is agreed then, Zert will be questioned." The celestial dwarf then makes sure to drag Zert's body to where he can be queried alone and without any interruption or distraction. Once the site is prepared, Glorfin uses his celestial heritage to summon cold flame to sprout from his beard - and sets Zert up in a similar position - head sandwiched between door and hammer. He then crouches to deliver healing to the devotee of the Lady of Flame...

Glorfin rests his gaze upon the man for a few more moments before finally speaking "I do not plan to kill you... but we will take you back to Holmlett. Do you promise to not run? - for if you run, we will stop you and you may die." If compliance is reached, Glorfin takes his hammer and convenes with everyone a slight distance away - though still within sight of where Kobart lies. "He is of simple mind, and I have no doubt that Zert is the heart of the matter. The only question is whether we trade words with him alone... here, before we take him back to Homlett to be tried. I am of the mind to trade words with him now... but would hear your counsel."

Glorfin's face remains impassive and his voice gravelly "What idea? to attack us?... or wait until we had engaged the goblins before attacking us?" Glorfin also follows up with other simply delivered queries:
While at the same time judging the man's responses...

Glorfin rests a heavy gauntleted hand on Tybek's shoulder for a moment "We will bring them back... but first I would speak with Kobart. Much is unknown, and questions must be asked" and his kinsman feels his spirit growing firmer and more stoic at the touch and words. Lay on Hands: 1d6 ⇒ 1 Glorfin then sees Kobart manhandled such that his head lies in a door frame, right cheek against stone. He places his warhammer with it's striking face gently resting against the bandit's left cheek and patiently waits for the man to rouse. Glorfin does not speak first, instead looking down upon Kobart with a calm and grim countenance and awaiting his speech. Bound with hands behind back and both ankles and thighs tied together separately.

Glorfin reacts just in time to turn his head as the soporific flood of colours bears Kobort to the floor. Looking around he is satisfied that the threat is momentarily ended, and kicks away Kobort's weapons. To Braden he asks "Braden, how long will your magic render him like this?" gesturing to the big man with his warhammer. When answered he nods and drops his weapon beside him, calling for rope to bind him hands and feet. To Tybek's words he gravely responds "Death may be their welcome... but I would hear them before we pass judgement" With the man secured, Glorfin looks over the men and goblins both for possessions of note. Loot them and the gobs, strip Zert and Turuko out of armor as well. Keep them together as Kobart will be the first to wake, Zert and Turuko will need healing before they get conscious again.

Round 5: 25/27 HP, Stonestrike 2/2 Glorfin once again calls on the strength of Ogoun to guide his arm. His warhammer grows weightier as it comes down in a diagonal strike... Power Attack Stonestrike Warhammer: 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 5 + 1 - 1 + 1 = 20 for 1d8 + 3 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 3 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 13

Round 4: 25/27 HP, Stonestrike 1/2 Glorfin steps past the fallen one to join Arindale assaulting his foe. Warhammer is clashed on his shield before swinging low, seeking to crush a foot or break a shin... Power Attack Warhammer: 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 1 - 1 = 10 for 1d8 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 9

My only comment to that is that I do not understand German... but if I listen to Rammstein at loud volumes I can still get pumped up. Similarly listening to the macarena will make most people around the world want to cause some speaker damage without understanding the words. Just my 2c

Round 3: 25/27 HP, Stonestrike 1/2 His momentary exultation at ending a goblin is short lived with the arrival of the betrayer and his friend. Glorfin spins in place and his growing anger deepens at the sight of his companions in pain. Calling upon the strength and anger of Ogoun to gird his arm, he charges across the room. Warhammer raised high to strike with divine force... Power Attack Stonestrike Charge: 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 1 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 2 + 1 - 1 + 1 = 24 for 1d8 + 3 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 3 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 14

Round 2: 25/27 HP A subvocal growl builds in Glorfin's throat as his eyes flash with fire at his continued lack of impact. Why does Ogoun test me so? He bats away the goblin's sword with his shield before attempting to crush it's face... Power Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 1 - 1 = 18 for 1d8 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 13

Round 1: 25/27 HP Grunting as the arrows strike his form, though the puny shafts barely mark his skin, Glorfin brings his warhammer to bear once more. The blunted head is thrust violently at the goblin... Power Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 1 - 1 = 11 for 1d8 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 8

Surprise: Eyes narrowing as he spies the goblins, Glorfin stirs to action as he charges the nearest. Warhammer swinging in a heavy horizontal arc at the beast's body... Charging Power Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 2 - 1 = 11 for 1d8 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 2 = 9

DM Chaos:
The message will be to the Corporal of Horse, explaining the manner in which the bandits were taken and a swearing on his oath that they admitted to banditry in his presence. Glorfin waited outside the confines of the grove as the halflings dealt with Jaroo. Ready to go delving in the moathouse.

To Ostler:
He allows his companions their banter with respect to the breakfast, but does not engage in it.

Arindale notices a slight tightening of Glorfin's brow and almost a groan, but the dwarf hides most of his disdain for the misuse of his moniker. To the question Glorfin shakes his head "Not all of my kin yearn for the same things Arindale... and I am nothing but myself." allowing himself a small grin at that thought "Do not mistake my lack of mirth for sadness." Good to go too

Glorfin hasn't had a chance to update with the level up yet... but has now. HP: 5 + 1d5 ⇒ 5 + (2) = 7 +4 HP +1 FC = 12 +15 = 27 HP total
Now Glorfin is starting to live up to his tank-like nature. 27 HP at 2nd level with DR 1/adamantium... just need to buy some better armor :)

Glofin accepts Calmert's words, and holds a silence for a few moments before answering "I wish you well with your proselytizing, you need not fear me efforts. Ogoun calls to ones heart and not one's ears. What of the Canon Terjon? - would he seek parley with me?, or do you act unknown to him?"

Glorfin Umbar-Caeli wrote: Glorfin raises a gauntlet to smooth out his beard and replies "We each must answer our calling. The Inheritor bids you to watch over this flock... my Lord in Fire and Iron sees reason for me to walk this way, so I do so." holding a steady gaze with Calmert so that he might gauge Glorfin's resolve. I think Glorfin is still staring meaningfully into the priest's eyes... |
