![]() @ Anna I agreed to run the game and I plan on running just one large group. However, I expect they will split off and merge back together as the game flows. There is hardly enough room for 8 or more people in most rooms or hallways. I am sure there are also places that will allow all party members to be involved in an encounter at the same time. I have asked the players to review their characters before we start again to make sure there is a right mix for them. As you noted the trap finder and arcane caster (crafter) is missing. No real harm at this point because we have just begun. Or we can go with what we have and multi-class as the company needs. A large group does take a little more coordination of all of the players since they cannot, like the room we have now, all investigate, talk and question the 4 orcs sitting in a corner. ![]()

![]() Well, except for Anna and Grandma, I think we know who is playing. I will not be running a character as well as running the campaign. That will leave the party short a rogue. Looking through the module it looks like there are plenty of traps and locked doors, it is a dungeon crawl for the most part, so you may want to rethink skills or your characters, or have someone run Glawng. Likewise there may be a few that want to change the teamwork feats. Now would be the time to do it before we begin. I think we will just start off with a real big party; family day in the dungeon. That does not mean you have to stick together or explore the same room at the same time. I am looking to post the first response tonight unless we here from our DM. It will be posted in the part 1 section where we last left off. ![]()

![]() Glawng notices that Grandma Ghawn was impeded by an invisible barrier and that the half-elf was starting to examine this barrier as well. He approaches the half-elf, ” I’m not a big one on the magic stuff, but I know my way around doors and barriers. Let’s see if we can pool our knowledge and find out something about this thing.” Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27 With that he begins examining the invisible barrier as well. Looking for its extent and properties or any source for it. “What we need here is one of those glitter spells. Those always seem to put a light on invisible things.” Glawng says to himself under his breath. ![]()

![]() Glawng seeing the rest of the Ghawn clan around the corner, leaves the shadows and approaches the rest of the group. "Well met family. I guess if we had some clever elf here he would be spouting some dammed proverb about all doors leading to the same road. Have you gotten any info out of these 4 orcs?" Glawng watched the orcs from a far looking for any signs of injuries, cuts, or bruises. He certainly hoped that it was not diseases that were causing their condition. Hard to fight what you can't see he thought to himself. He was reminded of the mold that was in the passage leading to the older Ghawn and wondered if this might be the culprit. Perception for looking at orcs condition : 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 "So, who's going to talk to these sorry sacks. You know I don’t have the gift or patience for gab. ![]()

![]() Glawng still takes to the shadows. He cautiously approaches trying not to be seen. If things do not go well with these orcs he wants to have the advantage of shadow and possible get into a flanking position soon after the melee begins. Stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 He also attempts to examine the appearing hall and the orcs making the coughing noises. Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 ![]()

![]() Upon hearing Grandma Ghawns utterance, Glawng stops a moment from his door investigation to see if there is a response. He notices Jamroar preparing to assist Grand and figures with his assistance, and whatever capabilites the 1/2 elf may have, Grand is in good hands for most problems. He returns to the doors in front of him. ![]()

![]() Glawng, while hearing the coughing from the corner, chooses to ignore it more intrigued by the doors lying across the way. He has always had an interest in doors, locks, and various mechanisms; if he were a gnome they would call it an obsession. The others will explore that noise. I need to see what our choices of moving through this place will be. Stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

![]() "There are no traps or tricks located here on these doors," Glawng says right before Jamroar, Anna, and now Grandma moved through the doorway. Well, it might have been right after they walked through. He felt a bit chagrined that his family did not wait for his expertise to be completed. Glawng was on the outside looking in again. As the youngest he often felt that his opinions were under valued. They’ll need me, I’m sure of it. This adventure will prove my worth. More than likely it will be me sitting in the elder seat by the time this is done He thought to himself. With that he readjusted his pack, checked his supplies and weapons, and headed through the doorway behind Grandma. ![]()

![]() Glawng was listening closely to the conversations between the half-elf and Gromor. “Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket He had heard Grand say that before and there was some truth to it. It would be much more difficult to sneak and hide down hallways with a large band of half breeds coming down the halls. He was pretty confident that Jangis and he could pull it off with a smaller band. Splitting up because it was more fun as Gromor had say was probably not the best reason, and Glawng doubted that they would need any more competition other than the trials ahead of them. “Splitting up would probably be best. Never know what we may meet. It would be difficult to move quick if needed with a very large band.” He again looked over the assembled group. Obviously the Halfling was adopted, but who were these half-elves. Maybe they are related on the human side. I cannot imagine that the elder would allow non-family members along for such a quest. Of course I can note imagine he would let such run the clan either. They must have a purpose Now which door to pick, and why? ![]()

![]() "Hey, nice to have a meet and greet, but could we do it a little farther away from these doors. The sooner we can start on a path the sooner we can be done." Glawng prepares to compare notes with his other brethern that have been examining the area. Knowledge Dungeoneering: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 ![]()

![]() Glawng was glad there were a few more joining him in the tunnel, but concerned that several of his siblings had not yet moved forward. Even more disconcerting, Grand Gahwn was still in the back. The young Ghawn would feel at a loss without her direction. She always seemed to know what to do before the question was even asked. Additionally Jangis, Jamroar, and Zierka were still on the other side of elder Ghawn. Glawng was less certain about his choice with them not here, but would never back out once committed. That would seem cowardly, something no Ghawn was ever accused. ![]()

![]() Not be a Gahwn?!, might as well say not be a person. It is bad enough to be seen as an outcast among many of the population but to compound that with being an outcast to the family was unthinkable. Glawng looked at those assembled here; no wonder there was not much extended family if Grandpa Ghawn was the only survivor. If it was a small pathway that needed to be found, Glawng was sure he would be the one to find it. The Ghawn clan was never one to back down from a challenge, as much of a blessing as curse, and Glawng was certain many here would take the test.

![]() Here I am, Glawng says as he pops up suddenly next to Jangis. Glawng take his place nearby Jangis; the brother he feels closest too. “A quest, you hear that! Maybe slay a dragon, rescue a princess or overthrow a Gnoll horde. Must be something huge to have the whole family here. “ Glawng was bubbling over with excitement. This was just the thing he was looking for. There were bound to be riches that could place the family back in good standing. Glawng looked for Grandma to see what her reaction was going to be. ![]()

![]() Still new to Pbp. Any idea the proper bbcode to use when you have two differerent skill bonuses? e.g. I have a +6 in perception but +11 when looking for traps or secret doors.

![]() Glawng looked at the assembled family. It had indeed been a long time since they were all gathered, Ma and Pa’s remembrance if he recalled correctly. Looking at his brethren it was amazing how far away from their orc heritage they were, and how diverse their interests were. Unlike Glawng, Zierka barely showed her orcish side. Grandma’s influence could easily be seen in all of the siblings. Her religious beliefs and embrace of magic are obvious examples, and there is no doubt what side of the family Jamroar got his intelligence. An Old Homestead by the caves, he thought to himself Wonder why that never came up? The only stories that Glawng remembered of the caves were those that Grand told of the ghasts and ghosts up there, obviously meant to keep the children away. Looking at his siblings, Glawng couldn’t help but feel a little inferior. Each of them had found their purpose while he was just going through the motions of life. He thought about all that Jangis had taught him in seemingly short time that they got to spend together. Glawng was stealthy, and could find the right place to put his blade, but Jangis showed him how teamwork could make his movements even more effective. Glawng wondered how much more he could learn if he could stay with his family for a while. He looked forward to the family meeting and what it may entail. ![]()

![]() Since we are going into a dungeon, we will prob be encountering a lot of doors and such. If the casters have it, it would be nice to have detect magic by at least one prepared to warn me about magic trapped doors. Also Mage hand can come in handy for poking things at a distance. I have a 10 foot pole, but the longer reach could come in handy. Don't know if any of you have them prepared. ![]()

![]() "Zierka!,"Glawng was jumping up and down with excitement. It was not often that he was able to see his oldest sister since she was at the temple. "Did it take a magic scroll to make you come home? How long you going to be here? Did you bring me anything?" He stopped talking suddenly, realizing he was prattling on. ![]()

![]() Rushing home with anticipation, Glawng walked into the home with a purpose. He spotted Grandma Ghawn in her favorite chair, an old rocking chair made out of deer antlers, whether she was in deep thought or asleep was a little harder to discern these days. “Grand. Grand. You’ll never guess what happened to me today. I was in the middle of a snatch..er, uh.. I was just there minding my business when “BAM” this appeared right in front of me.” He pulled out the scroll and handed it to her. “It’s obvious who it came from, but I don’t have a clue about this old house. Do you have any idea what this is about or what it means?” ![]()

![]() Reading through the scroll for a second time, Glawng wishes he would have paid much more attention to his Ma and Pa when they were talking about family history and of the region in stead of just being focused on his immediate needs. I'll take this to Grand, she has a good knowledge of history. Maybe she can tell me what this means. With that he rolls the parchment up carefully and heads for home. ![]()

I would like precise strike for the two attackers and anyone who may get in melee. The extra 1d6, especially at lower levels could help and the DM is willing to overlook the BAB +1 needed. Don;t know if he will overlook the Dex 13 requirement. Outflank requires BAB of +4. Shielded caster requires members to have shields. Neither myself or the ranger are going to be shielded. Swap places may come in handy if we need to move the casters out of the fray and put someone else or move a caster in for a touch attacke and then back out. This may be harder to do as a PbP or could give the characters and DM much greater freedom of storyline and movement of characters since they can manuver more freely. If the casters have some of the same spells on their lists allied caster could come in handy. ![]()
