About Gimbal Softsprocket

Background:

Born of overprotective parents and raised in a gnomish community Gilble never had a chance to be normal. His small stature did not help the inclinations of his parents. And he was constantly told he was not big enough for this or not strong enough for that. Eventually he believed them. He was just too small and too weak to do much good in the world, on his own. But what if he could summon some sort of help? What if he did not have to always be small and weak?

Bright of mind and with family resources for study Gimble applied himself to the study of the arcane. Some wizards and sorcerers could summon aid to help them; everything from mounts to fierce monsters to fight their battles. But their presence on this plane was short – too short for his needs. He wanted a friend and companion. He wanted something enduring. He did not know it when he first began his search, but he wanted an Eidolon.

He was not much use at farming or tinkering due to his size and lack of strength. So at an early age for an gnome, he began his training to become a summoner. He worked harder than most students because there was more at stake for him. When he had proven that he possessed the gift and the college of Summoners outlined his choices to continue his studies Gimble could only choose to become a Synthesist. The chance to be strong and do great deeds was a dream come true for him. Thus he adopted the persona of Drake.

His tenure as Drake is not yet long. Still he has done some heroic deeds and is quite proud of himself. Maidens have been rescued (The neighbor’s milk cow taken by goblins) and dragons slain (A monitor lizard was a credible threat to the town’s water supply). But it was time to leave his town and see the world where great deeds were waiting to be done.

Appearance:

Small even for a gnome, Gilble is, well, cute. That is NOT what he was going for, but its how things worked out. He prefers to wear bright greens under the studded leather that is a necessity of his profession and likes to wear tall hats that make him look at little taller. His eyes sparkle green and his hair is usually died green as well. He has a knife at his belt, but his scrawny arms look unsuited to the task of even drawing it. He also has a small crossbow on his back, but you have to wonder if he can support it long enough to fire it.

Suited up Gimble takes on the persona of Drake, an armored fighter that appears to wear claw like Cestus on each hand. His armor is usually dark and smoky and draconic in appearance and if inspected carefully you would see it is without seams. The armor could indeed be made of some black dragon hide. It is hard to tell. And the includes the horns of such a beast. On certain occasions he has made his armor sparkle and gleam like it was made of Mithral, but he has never masked the draconic look to it.

Personality:

Gimble is a nervous gnome. Everything in general is so much bigger than him. And most things are either out to hurt him or certainly don’t mind hurting him as a by-product of getting what they want. This outlook on life has made him a little jumpy, and a little suspicious. While slow to trust, Gimble is a fast friend to those he does trust.

A follower of Sivanah, he spend much time in reflection and at least as much time working out the mysteries of the arcane. Magic is holy to him, and much of his confidence is gained and bolstered with the presence of magic, including his eidolon.

Secure inside the protection of his eidolon Gimble becomes a different person. He is tall and brave and outgoing and less afraid of the threats of the world. He is prone to speak in draconic to the annoyance of those around him and in general thinks of himself as a hero. But he has to sleep sometime. And when he does he looses his eidolon and is once again weak and vulnerable. He needs to work on that.

Fused Eidolon A synthesist summons the essence of a powerful outsider to meld with his own being. The synthesist wears the eidolon like translucent, living armor. The eidolon mimics all of the synthesist's movements, and the synthesist perceives through the eidolon.
Fused Link (Su) Starting at 1st level, the synthesist forms a close bond with his eidolon. Whenever the temporary hit points from his eidolon would be reduced to 0, the summoner can, as a free action, sacrifice any number of his own hit points. Each hit point sacrificed offsets 1 hit point lost.
