avr wrote: Right, lets's look at the shadowbound corruption...nope, nothing about stopping you casting spells. Must be something homebrew.
In summary then
* You can't cast spells, despite these being your biggest single class feature.
* You can't get magic items with the possible exception of hunting down artifacts.
* Your character is fragile with Con 10, and you're in a game where touch attacks are common so avoiding being hit is hard.
* Your character has a bad multiclass.
* You want to fight in melee and at range.
* You have a corruption which may cause you further problems later on.
On the plus side you have a nice magic sword.
Something has to change there. There's too much up against you; optimisation alone can't fix it, and another artifact is an extreme longshot for fixing it. If not being able to cast spells is being blamed on the corruption do whatever you have to, go on quests or whatever to fix that.
Edit: you can't delete threads, but if you want me to stop replying, I'm out.
i mean you dont have to stop i just meant someone make a moderator delete it. so far youve been responding nicely along with a few others in here. except the few who arent. but at this point nothing can be said/done so . ttyl.
someone just delete this thread. its pretty much useless to me now. you guys are treating me like im an idiot and condescending at me. like i didnt know it was a bad build. i did sub optimal on purpose. i wanted things to help myself. because i didnt know what kinds of items spells magical stuff i needed. but you all felt it necessary to tell me things i knew and treat me like im dumb. so im over it

MrCharisma wrote: GenocidingGemini wrote: ... kinda makes it seem like your not reading 3/4s of what i post back/reply with I've offered you a lot of advice and to be frank you've been dismissive and rude since your first reply to me.
If you take nothing else from what I've said take this: If you don't spend resources (feats/class levels/money/spells/etc) on something you won't be good at it. Right now you're wanting to be good at tanking, so you need to spend resources on staying alive or you won't survive to achieve any of your other goals.
(The bit a out selling the sword was a joke, though to be hones the Virpal enchantment is definitely not worth a +5 equivalent bonus.) again...i know i need to spend resources...your treating me like im dumb or an idiot when im not. i know i need resources and ranged builds take 5 feats to become good. melee builds need like 3+ or so to get online, then you choose 1 of the many diverging paths. i get that. i also know i need to spend things into what i wanna do. IF YOU READ WHAT I SAID i have BARELY ANY GOLD to purchase to help myself....so again you didnt listen to what i said about being poor as hell. AND i cant sell an artifact sword which is an intelligent item, of a powerful First being from the Fae, who can just outright kill me Through the sword.
LAstly im being rude because you are actually ignoring the context and comments im making and saying the same 2 things to me...either pay attention and change your commentary to something that responds to what i say. or dont respond at all. you telling me the same 5 things. helps me in no way. The last time you mentioned something helpful was the amulet of bullet protection besides that. you treated me like i was some dumb noob since then trying to "explain" what i did wrong or what i wasent understanding. but i do. i just through circumstances out of my control got forced into said tanky melee type role. but whatever. not that you read ANYTHING ive said if you had, you wouldnt say the same 2-5 things repeatedly.

gnoams wrote: This is what happens when you make a character with 10 con. Sorry, but you can't tank. You will die more and more as you get higher levels, even if you hide behind other players. It is possible to survive with a 10 con, but only with niche builds specially designed to mitigate for low hp and even then it is risky, something I'd only recommend for experienced players looking for a challenge.
Pathfinder 1 is not very flexible in changing builds mid game, there really is no in game fix for your problem. Your best option is to talk to your gm, explain your situation. If you really like your character, maybe ask if you can re-do you ability scores. Try to work out something out of game, otherwise just let the character die and make a new one. Consider it a learning experience.
Pathfinder is a game that goes through several stages of difficulty. At 1st level, anything goes. You can survive and succeed with the worst builds imaginable because the numbers are low and the dice rolls matter. At 7th level now, you're getting into the first challenge tier. This is the point where lucky rolls no longer cut it. If you've made a bad build, this is the point where it starts becoming apparent, where you start struggling. There's another difficulty jump around level 11. Builds that worked fine in 1-10 can suddenly find themselves unable to stay alive, or unable to contribute due to numbers not being high enough to hit the DCs. It happens again around level 17 as well.
im not dumb i know this. i didnt want to be min max. i wanted to be sub optimal and have my build i make work. i know how inflexible pathfinder 1 is. but its fun. i just dont wanna be the same cookie cutter idiot whos like "ok lets do the same basic RANGED feats to do anything ranged." and then go like "now i need top pick the best most optimal class to accel at these feats + best weapon imaginable. then get the best race for shoring up my weaknesses or Adding onto my bonuses.
I like playing things for fun. but i also want it to work and be reliable. useful is subjective. i hate min maxxing because you get hated on by people more so then playing that "Sub optimal" character who shines 3/10 times and is more fun to play against. if i wanted to be told "i fuc ked up you didnt min max or pick cookie cutter stuff" i never wouldve posted in the first place.
also i dont need to learn. i understand how the game works. i just dont like picking the same damn things every time. i try to find like "sub optimal" things that do the same as the TOP TIER min max choices. and make them work. rather then just being the "i must get BiS everything perfect stats, perfect feats and race" etc thats so boring lame, and lazy.
and lastly, i didnt make myself a tank from the get go. i actually had other things in mind. but unfortunately having 2 gunslingers and an investigator all going ranged weapons SOMEONE MUST be a melee person...ive never played in a campaign where all ranged characters did well so seeing as im the only one with any melee potential its fallen upon me...unintentionally. and im forcibly been shunted into said role...i kinda cant NOT do it now. because if i just go ranged as well i survive, but then we all just get surrounded and mauled by melee enemies. and then we all just get shot to death equally by gunfights.
avr wrote: If you want to avoid multiclassing further and you want to survive more easily, you could look at your spell selection. When you get 3rd level spells (inquisitor 7) you could get the shield of darkness spell, which will save you from a lot of hits. 2nd level inquisitor spells include bullet ward, though that requires you to get hold of a few adamantine bullets.
Your character build is not good though, and if you can't go back and change some stuff it is going to remain problematic.
i cant cast spells anymore ive been locked from them due to my Shadowbound corruption? or some DM homebrew reasoning? so i cant cast ANY spells/they have no effect.

MrCharisma wrote: Or y'know sell that sword for 100,000gp and hire an army of mercinaries to tank for you. the sword is an artifact sword. its an intelligent weapon. it houses Nyrissa. The DM will just make her kill me with whatever kind of thing she used to "Test me" to begin with when i found "the Briar Blade" to begin with. i dont think she will be pleased im just going to sell her for a ton of gold. Also thatd go completely against the personality of my character. and it would defeat the purpose of having my staff of teleport to go around curating artifacts and learning about them. and the "Artifact finding orb" Homebrew item i have.
i know artifacts are broken which is why im only going to use like 1 at a time and just curate and research them. my character is a religious holyman whos researching things. thus the reason to have stuff.. anyways the TLDR is. i know they are powerful and dont wanna just be like "HURP DURP I SELL ARTIFACTS TO MAKE TONS OF MUNNY TO BUY MOOKS TO DO DIRTY WURK" and just cheese/be lazy/make the game pointless...because why even play aty that point if i can send 5098475974568947564587658767 mooks at a problem until its fixed by selling artifacts for millions of gold?

MrCharisma wrote: Ok, take 1 level of Unhained Monk and take Deflect Arrows as your bonus feat. This gives you some defence from ranged, and gives you Stunning Fist a few times per day if you need it. You also get Improved Unarmed Strike in case you want to try Snake Style later on. Since everything' targeting Touch AC you might as well ditch the armour and get WIS to AC as well (and don't worry about Flurry, you don't need it).
Then take 1 level of Swashbuckler, and you'll need Weapon Focus (Bastard Sword) and Slashing Grace. Now you have DEX to hit and damage with your bastard sword (+4 to hit/damage) as well as the ability to parry occasionally. (It might even be worth taking a level of Fighter just for an extra feat to get Slashing Grace online ASAP.)
Both these classes also have d10 hit dice which will help you a bit.
Your Inquisitor levels will be a bit behind but you'll be better at dealing/avoiding damage and you'll have an actual reason to use that overpriced sword.
so now im Quadra classing? 5 inquisitor 2 OCcultist 1 U.monk and 1 Swashbuckler? lol god my class is going to be a confusing mess at that point.
cause i dont know how im getting these new dips in classes unless i level up more. Also how will my inquisitor levels be behind? i told you i cant reowkr/retrain. my DM wont allow me too when ive already reworked/retrained my entire class once already. so im kinda not sure why you keep saying things like im going to be allowed to swap stuff...kinda makes it seem like your not reading 3/4s of what i post back/reply with.

MrCharisma wrote: So you're playing in a game where:

- Melee combat
- Ranged combat (feat heavy)
- Tanking
And you made a character that has:
- No bonus feats
- D8 hit dice
- 10 CON.
This isn't going to work.
I know my first post was a bit of a wall of text, but in there was this:
MrCharisma wrote: The main thing here is that I'm focusing my feats/equipment/etc on personal defence. If you want to be good at something you have to spend resources on it. Feats are resources, Ability points are resources, Class levels are resources. You have to spend some of them on surviving if you want to survive.
Ranged combat (especially with firearms) is a feat-intensive combat style, and trying to combine it with melee combat adds to that. Your build is also very fragile, so you could (should) definitely spend some feats there to improve your survivability.
You either need to give up Ranged Combat (so you can spend your feats etc on surviving since you have no HP) or give up the front-line tanking role (so the damage spreads to the rest of your party and you can skip some of the tanking/melee feats).
well i cant skip tanking. if i do, the rest of the party is going to die. they all use Guns. Firing a ranged weapon in melee..when iot happens will get them killed. they have more hp then me but if they start taking hits on enemy turns AND when firing or ( trying to back away and taking AoOs) they will die.
Secondly. i dont want to do ranged. im just forced to do it because i have no safer alternative.
third. i cant retrain/rework my class ive doneso once already so i used my "DM do something nice for me card" once already. so i dont wanna do it again.
4th. i took Weapon finesse and Piranha strike to do pseudo Power attack stuff with finesse weapons. but seeing as that aspect is literally pointless if i just get focused. those feats are kinda MOOT if i die after 1-2 rounds. Also i did point buy. in the beginning i didnt need to have more CON becausze we had another melee character and i was actually playing a different multi class. but now im This occultist/inquisitor.
so basically with whats being said. ive got like 2-3 options? buy spells scrolls get an amulet of bullet protection and...use my gold to buy better mundane equipment and wear heavier armor. Because i cant cast spells anymore. so im pretty much a dead character...lol ive lost Half my class kit in spells being gone. Also like i said. i havent Seen or heard of ANY arcane magic users in my campaign yet. ive asked and tried looking but cant find anything? theres clerical/divine magic...but so far thats much more available then arcane stuff...and i dont think "priests in churchs" are on the "Crafting magical items themselves to gain profit/personal power" so they wouldnt have any reason to have it or for me to even ask a priest if they can do so. so im sorta SOL until we decide to travel. or i use my SHADOW PLANES Staff of travel and teleport to some "obscure area of pathfinders world" and get something made...but i shouldnt have to go THAT FAR for simple arcane magical scrolls.

MrCharisma wrote: You only need 1 hand free for Deflect Arrows. Do you have Bastard Sword proficiency? If you do then you can wield it 1-handed.
Your turn goes like this.
Full-round action: attack with 2 hands on weapon.
Free action: take 1 hand off your weapon (holding it 1-handed)
(Enemy turn)
Free action: put both hands back on the weapon (holding it 2-handed)
Full-round action: attack with 2 hands on weapon.
Free action: take 1 hand off your weapon (holding it 1-handed)
(Enemy turn)
Etc.
If you can't wield it 1-handed you can still do all that, you just won't be able to take AoO's against the enemy (unless you had a way to threaten unarmed, like say the Improved Unarmed Strike feat).
Also, drawing a weapon does NOT provoke attacks of opportunity. Sheathing it does, but drawing it doesn't.
Okay...but those are 2 feats im taking away from the MANY ill need to make both RANGED and melee combat good..like all the Staple Feat taxes ones. IE Power attack, Rapid shot, Point blank shot, Rapid reload, Quick draw, Many shot, Deadly aim. also if i take the ones i have away. i took the Dex Equivalent of PA in piranha strike. and weapon finesse,so i wont be able to take any of those feats mentioned until WELL into my 14+ levels.AND for theory sake if i only focus on one type Melee.. or ranged, im still going to take at least another 6 levels before i get any of the right feats. because we arent using Retraining or Any of the elephant in the room feat changes. so really im kinda Screwed. my only options is to just be a glorified "Spy".
Bender is great wrote: MrCharisma wrote: Oh yeah, it should.
(Also, when you say "feat chain" ...?) Good point, just into catch and snatch arrows. Oh, and as an inquisitor, snake style would probably work pretty nicely for you, couple the both of them together and you've got bullet dodging potential. but if i take improved unarmed...to take snake style..wouldnt that just defeat the purpose of me having melee weapons? id need to have my hands free. i cant deflect/catch ammunition/arrows with a weapon in hand...so id basically be making all my melee options useless..just to have something to keep me alive for the 15-60 ft it takes for me to move toward an enemy...thus just defeating the purpose when i draw a weapon in melee combat and provoking? lol
gnoams wrote: Maybe I misunderstand, but half hd+1 is pfs standard for hit points and slightly above average of rolled hp.
I'm pretty sure your hp are a little off. 7d8= 8+6*5= 38hp +7con=45. You could have 5 more from favored class bonus too for a total of 50hp. Maybe you meant the house rule is no max hp at first level, but that would still put you at 7*5=35hp base +7 from con= 42, 47 with fcb.
perhaps i did my HP wrong. we do get max HP at level 1. but i dont get to add a con bonus. because my Con isnt actually 12. thats the OCcultist transmutation implement increasing my stat as a temporaray bonus. so im only getting 4HP+1 every level. and only +1 more from FCB inquisitor. ill fix it if its wrong i mightve messed up.

alright. but remember ive spent 7 levels collecting only 8700 gold...usually you get way more then that. and i only have that much because i sold alot of useless junk we couldnt even use. and i cant really buy magic items. without mages and this being a "savage untamed wild west. full of guns and wild west stuff" the only magic is clerical magic really...arcane stuff is scarce at best it seems. so finding wizards/sorcers etc. and store selling magic items is difficult. outside of making it myself (but again nobody in our group is a caster or magic item feats using person). so im kinda stuck with little options for what money i do get. with all the suggestions being useful i need to find somehowe to get those. which at this point seems like my only option is to either rush main story arc quests for "targeted loot rewards" or go on every possible side quest to receive RNG loot drops. You are playing a very homebrewed game, so it’s hard to give advice, but:
By standard PF rules your wealth is about right for your level (23,500 is the recommended figure for a character hitting 7th) apart from the artefact sword, which is ridiculously OP.
You are playing a combatant with a Con of 10. That’s part of what is making you fragile. Can you learn spells to boost it, even if only for a fight.
You haven’t said what the rest of the party is. Can you sit down with them and suggest looking at party tactics/ ways of working together to make your life easier?
Do you have anyone with alchemy skills in the group? If the prooblem is lots of people shooting bullets at relatively short range, smokesticks that give you cover, but don’t mess with melee are a possible option.
we have an investigator. but hes a new player, whos not doing alchemy hes being more of the "drunk condescending bounty hunter" type and he didnt take infusion discovery. we have 2 gunslingers. 1 who can cast..magic and i dunno how hes able to? and then myself. the rest of them all use guns because "oh this is wild west. so its gotta be gun city. because guns." so nobody else is melee. (aside from running into monsters) all human encounters mostly have had guns. and seeing as im the only one with actual decent melee i run in because theres no need for 4 ranged people in our group. i have ranged options and ability. i just dont want to use it. id like to get benefit outta my melee side as well.
also i apparently have lost my ability to cast spells because of what i mentioned in my second question , My SHADOWBOUND corruption has apparently gotten me disliked or "losing connection" with my faith/god and thus ive lost the ability to cast spells...so until i fix that i cant even cast any spells. but as i mentioned I wasent being given good loot...or any gold so i had to take matters into my own hands and kinda continue working with this shadow being from the planes of shadow. thus causing all this.
thirdly, i cant really sit down with my party in game. 1 is a goblin who is afraid of magic and hates magic. and only cares about 1 thing. and has a single track mind because low intellect and being a goblin...which only cares about goblin things. 1 partry member whos just a literal playboy type who thinks hes amazing because he managed to learn how to cast spells eventually and treats magic like a joke. and everyone is beneath him because "hes so awesome" but hes really really stupid. and then the investigator guy who basically just gets drunk all the time passes out. or drunkenly starts fights when hes not being useful. and all 3 of these people get us in trouble in every town. THEN enters me. my Sneaky Semi Good and adjusted character whos a tengu inquisitor who goes around invisible to listen to peoples stories and gossip and eavesdrop and is basically the parties face. who is the only one who doesnt "Watch the world burn" so thewres no real "party tactics" its just "is it dieing? its dieing yet? no its not. we keep shooting it till it dies" or thew opposite option is "we just run from it because we dont want combat"

SheepishEidolon wrote: GenocidingGemini wrote: Inquisitors dont get bullet shield or wind wall as spells. so those ideas are out. i guess its just total defense action for me. unless i buy spell scrolls of those 2 spells and waste what little gold i have xD Hrm, a scroll of bullet shield costs 300 gold. A ring of protection +4 (same deflection bonus) costs 32,000 gold. So after 100 scrolls (read: at least 100 encounters) you are still cheaper off, and you don't have to acquire and spend all the money at once. Of course the ring has its own advantages (no action required, works also vs. non-firearms etc.), but "nothing is ever easy", as an old fantasy writer put into the mouth of a wise old man.
Now wind wall is 750 gold, but it has the potential to protect the entire party (if placed wisely). alright. but remember ive spent 7 levels collecting only 8700 gold...usually you get way more then that. and i only have that much because i sold alot of useless junk we couldnt even use. and i cant really buy magic items. without mages and this being a "savage untamed wild west. full of guns and wild west stuff" the only magic is clerical magic really...arcane stuff is scarce at best it seems. so finding wizards/sorcers etc. and store selling magic items is difficult. outside of making it myself (but again nobody in our group is a caster or magic item feats using person). so im kinda stuck with little options for what money i do get. with all the suggestions being useful i need to find somehowe to get those. which at this point seems like my only option is to either rush main story arc quests for "targeted loot rewards" or go on every possible side quest to receive RNG loot drops.

SheepishEidolon wrote: Ok, some ideas to patch the borked situation:
There is a level 2 spell called bullet shield, granting a +4 to +8 deflection bonus to AC vs. firearms.
There is the good old level 3 spell windwalk. As I read it, it "only" provides a 30% miss chance for firearms, but that already means you live ~50% longer. And 30% don't p*ss off a GM like 100%.
There is the total defense action for emergency situations, available for everyone. Since you have 3 ranks in Acrobatics, you will get a whopping +6 dodge bonus on AC. You can even use a move and swift action while total defending.
i will have to look into those, and i guess total defending works. i forget the many actions available to take. but alot of them are super specific. so i guess itll be useful for me so thanks for reminding/telling me about those few things. ill try to use them more often.
Edit: Inquisitors dont get bullet shield or wind wall as spells. so those ideas are out. i guess its just total defense action for me. unless i buy spell scrolls of those 2 spells and waste what little gold i have xD

SheepishEidolon wrote: Hrm, I checked your sheet and don't see why you feel obligated to use guns. You have a friggin vorpal bastardsword +5, outclassing all your other weapons. And even if you don't use it for some reason, your rapier +1 is as good as your pistol, when it comes to AB and average damage.
Yes, this character isn't designed for tanking. The easiest way would be to ask your GM for a complete rebuild. You had no chance to know you'd have to be the tank, so it's just fair to allow you to create something new. Otherwise MrCharisma gave you a lot of good input already.
Just one final thing: When playing 3/4 BAB classes and going for melee, be careful to get BAB 6 as soon as possible, because the first iterative attack makes a huge difference*. Taking a fifth level in a 3/4 BAB class delays that by a level, and taking a first level in another 3/4 BAB class delays by yet another level.
* As almost always in Pathfinder, there are exceptions. Some things make you less reliant on BAB 6: Two-weapon fighting, natural attacks, many attacks of opportunity, good access to haste etc..
The vorpal bastard sword is because its an Artifact its "The Briar Blade" artifact weapon. i only have it because i was tired of not having a decent weapon and wanted to go find something. because in other campaigns i had something relatively good by lvl 7. so i used the homebrew artifact orb i have and the Staff of travel. to just take a liezurely stroll to where "The Briar Blade" was resting and just take it. because i had no good gear and the DM wasent giving us any and wasent really giving us much gold. the only reason i have 877 platinum is because ive hoarded what little we got and sold everything i didnt need. and i dont want to run into melee to do things. my goal was to switch hit technically. but seeing as this entire campaign revolves around guns. and guns do full dmg to our "lower hp pool" im pretty afraid to run in sword swinging with no safety net. so all my melee stuff is useless. because i dont wanna be the target and with such a low con it wont take much to outright kill me with only 10 extra HP on my 40 so 50 dmg can outirght kill me. thus again putting another point in why melee is bad. with zero melee support from my team because nobody else casts spells to help me its 2 gunslingers and an investigator who isnt doing the infusion route on his alchemy. so im literally on my own spells wise.
but i also know about action economy i chose what i did because its fun. it works for what i do being the face and being sneaky and going around finding out information and following suspects. but when stuff goes bad im obviously dieing because X ammount of people using guns. hitting me with only 40 HP at lvl 7. sort of puts me in the dirt after 1 whole turn. and with no dedicated healer...and our parties awful habit of getting into trouble because 1 person is a con artist 1 is an obnoxious/condescending prankster character. then myself being the only half well adjusted character. sorta makes it difficult for any town to not want us arrested. because of how they other party members act.
and i already had a rework, i was a gunslinger(grenadier) and living grimoire archtyped class? i forget what class gets that archtype.. previously but my GM let me do an entire rebuild once already. to this because it fit more of what i wanted to do. so i dont think ill be allowed a Second one. so im going to assume im stuck with what i have now.

alright cool. thanks a bunch then. alot of this is homebrew. but i still wanted to get some clarity on some thing. i contracted Shadowbound. by dealing with some "plane of shadow being" apparently rolling 30+s on my skill checks doesnt give me any information on this being. and apparently gaining items from this creature has just outright given me corruption levels. i just feel like i shouldve had some "slow lead up" to it corruptions dont happen immediately. and i was doing favors for rewards for this being. but those mustve been the conditions to just jump corruption levels. but still youd think my character in game would notice something changing within himself...but oh well. ill need to go with it and try to cure it somehow.
as for the artifacts bit they arent homebrew he let me look on the list of "all pathfinder artifacts" l;ist on AoN/PAthfinder SRD. and let me research them VIA the orb, and then gave me a big research thesis/paper on each one. and let me figure out how to go about finding it with said orb that points to said artifacts if its on the same plane as i reside on. i just wanted to know how bad itd be to start collecting them. like will it anger gods and Demi gods and powerful demons and other "notable characters in story arc lore" etc. because remember i havent dealt with artifacts EVER except 1 small run in with the Deck of Many Things. and thats it...so im not sure how bad this will completely derail the campaign or the setting etc by collecting them. And lastly i dont think its plot hooks? at least he has given next to nothing about the orb...and all attempts have failed to gain any information so im just treating it as an orb to find the "most notable items in pathfinders stories/mythos"
well alot of that was helpful to my first question. but like i mentioned im not really able to get money...so i cant buy things...were actually pretty poor and only level 7. second part of it is we only get half HP per hit die +1 + bonuses. so i only have 40 HP and i dont get to have Heavy armor. my saves arent that great either. ALSO nobody in our party is a wizard and nobody is a magic item crafter not to mention apparently magic users are scarce in this setting? i havent seen/heard of any mage towers/wizards etc yet.
I just feel like im not being of use in combat except to just direct attacks at me. but im also not hitting as much because things have such high AC? im not sure if the DM is changing stats for the "guns are really prevalent" thing or i just roll s&~%ty. but ill look into like Defense and resistance orientated enchantments and spells.
this only gives me ideas to solve my first issue. but still lives my Second and third question unanswered etc.

just thought id ask for some advice on things for my character and what to do about Corruptions affecting a PC and how to fix those. but first a bit of pre-amble/context what have you.
- We are playing a wild west style game. in Geb the savage south (homebrew)
- Guns cost 25% less and sell for 25% less. and are considered martial weapons
- HP is Half of each of your Hit die +1 plus any other bonuses.
Now im playing an Inquisitor(sanctified slayer 5) + Occultist (reliquarian 2)
heres my sheet : https://www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=2212830
i have a few questions
firstly being, How would i go about being useful in such a campaign. my character has turned itself into the party face without even having stats for it...and im not even the correct inquisitor, And with guns being such a prevalent thing..i feel like im "Forced" to use them when i dont want too...but non fire arm weapons arent really faring/managing as well as guns..and i also am dieing alot because nobody else is opting for melee options like myself..but i dont wanna just be forced to stay ranged. so im basically being the tank. for gunfire. with only 40 hp.
SECOND question is. ive been allowed to have Solo sessions to sorta Catch up with my party due to being absent and such due to work and life. And during these sessions ive come into contact with a being from the plane of shadow. which has given me boons and items to keep myself caught up. but now ive become afflicted with "Shadowbound" corruption? and i havent dealt with corruption effects whatsoever. and have no idea how to get rid of it. nor did i have any indication it was happening even with a ton of Knowledge checks and perceptions etc
third question
I havent dealt with artifact level items. and seeing as items and gold is scarce in this world due to it being all "Wild west" with banditos robbing towns and banks and stuff theres not much money to be earned unless you go hunting down bandits or become a bandit. or do a quest for every townsfolk who needs help. Random loot is done by a random generator so far it seems with useless junk and items just being given out. .and im a C/G character not willing to go about becoming a bandit..so This ties into my Second question situation. i gained a staff of travel...and the DM has dropped an "Artifact finding orb" in our session which i just so happen to have. im using this orb to "Scry" basically artifact level items, and use the staff of travel to just teleport around getting artifact items that are on the material plane.. How awful and bad is it to just go looking for an artifact acquiring it and such?
IE i have "The Briar Blade" atm, no idea the repercussions im dabbling in. So any indications and warnings could be nice/helpful.
TL:DR > just need some possible suggestions on what i can do for myself in the situation im in. i like my character i just want some help/oppinions/possible remedies to some of the concerns ive raised.
Well i appreciate everyones help. some useful things were said. and ive had some stuff said that also i didnt know. but i was removed from the campaign before it even started , because of "OVERBEARING ENTHUSIASM" and being "too meta in a laid back game" even though i was trying to handicap myself and go against what is the "True meta" to play Rule of cool. in essence, but apparently the DM decided it was best he remove me. So this character is shelved for probably ever, until i find a game thatll allow wyvarans again or i change its race.

im still just going to use guns. i have party members who are going to craft magic items so we will have wands at half the cost. (i swapped to a double barrel musket because i couldnt use Beneficial bandolier on Dragoon and cartridge guns). so i can use Rapid reload+ paper cartridges to get a free action. or the bondolier if i dont wanna be a CHEESEHOUND and abuse free actions. Ill also just carry a backup bow for when my gun does misfire. Also if i ABSOLUTELY have to..ill take "Amatuer gunslinger" and sacrifice some ranged options, i dont need. or melee feats i dont need. for that 1 feat. but thats if i feel its necessary. which i dont think it will be. but as of right now
im using inq. Sacred hunstmaster with BP inquisition. get all the good feats. (PBS, PS, DA, RS, RR, QD, PA) if i need to i can just get rid of quickdraw or Power attack for Amateur gunslinger.-shrugs-

Those spells have a 10 minute casting time, so they're not useful in time-sensitive situations. They're also very pricey, since you'll need to buy wands with higher-than-normal caster level, since you need to meet the caster level of the item you're trying to repair.
GenocidingGemini wrote: im handicapping myself in this way because i know how OP guns are. so it make it less OP i dont wanna have all the "Bells and whistles" to make them great, they are just the flavor/attack option, its not "my entire class" nor do i want it to become that

Guns in and of themselves are not OP. Quite the opposite, they're actually a very weak weapon type based on their own intrinsic properties. It's the "bells and whistles" from those archetypes that make guns worth using in the first place.

i will say i only have 10 int. and was gunna get a headband to get+ to int , cause as it stands i cant cast spells as a spellslinger. and ill have literally NO elixers. and literally NO magus spells.
so i either have to suck it up and be ok with having literally no spells. or just be a gun chemist and shoot grenades. You have 14 strength; a composite longbow is going to be your optimal ranged weapon in most circumstances. If you really have your heart set on it, just be aware that this is a case of style over substance. Even after investing feats and class levels, you'll probably still be better... I thought wands made all spells standard actions and if im using it out of combat..it shouldnt really matter about time, i dunno many situations where a DM would willingly throw Multiple fights in quick succession at some one especially knowing how bad that encounter is and dangerous. i mean yes. a GM trying to kill you/waste your character resources might pull that. but id assume id be out of combat for 10 minutes for the MAKE WHOLE spell. and its only a second level spell. so long as im (2nd level or above) i can use the wand, and meeting the CL requirement shouldnt be hard all i need to do is just level up. and i dont plan on putting 9th level spells on my gun. so really it isnt that bad. so i dunno why your making it out to be so bad?
Also the guns point, to me everyones been great with guns and they skipped getting "Bells and whistles" like it was either they played up the gun to be good, without its bells and whistles or the DM mustve favored them. but ive seen people do good without the 5 lvls of Gslinger etc, Also im deadset on playing it this way. i dont wanna play gunslinger because all you do is literally focus on your gun. the GUN(the weapon) becomes the entire class, and i hate that about it. theres no individuality.
also with a gun. 2 handed i do 1d10-1d12. only way a Comp longbow would be better then the gun is if it was +2 magical to me. a longbow only does 1d8 if i use Composite. it makes it basically a 1d10 at max dmg, the damage isnt different. its just the different between 2 base dmg or 2 Additional dmg which doesnt matter to me. i specifically chose low strength so i wouldnt want to get a Comp bow. the only consideration id make would be to use Crossbows, but the only one i like is the Repeating versions. which is exotic, and would take 3 + more feats to even make remotely good. so Guns is where im going. and i dont want deeds thats not what this character is about. if i deep into anything for the "bells and whistles" i lose feats and levels in Hunter and then again im forced to use boon companion feat. so im 4 feats behind on my switch hitting thing im trying to do with "melee and gun".

avr wrote: Let's consider the criteria then, specified and implied.
Starting with a primal companion hunter, and this will continue to be the main class. A dip only, and only in one class.
Wants to use a gun, but only sometimes. Currently using a short bow for range, bastard sword + heavy shield in melee, but no particular devotion to those weapons - not even EWP.
Wants to have unusual tricks.
Currently Str 14, Dex 16, Con 14, Int 10, Wis 16, Cha 8; wyvaran hunter 1.
Paizo only?
With Str 14 bows and even thrown weapons have an edge over firearms for this character. Just saying.
The most efficient means of getting into firearms for this character might be to take a level in musketeer swashbuckler. It gives proficiency, rapid reload (musket), quick clear, & if you start using a rapier rather than a bastard sword you can use opportune parry and riposte and get free weapon finesse/focus. Minimum panache is 1 even with Cha 8.
If that's not interesting enough then a level in inquisitor with the black powder inquisition gives different tricks. The sacred huntsmaster archetype to save the feat on boon companion might be useful.
ill look into them. also thats why i asked what are ALL THE GUN USABLE archtypes/classes . i only know of Alchemist spellslinger and Base gunslinger and Holy gun (paladin). i didnt really know of many others. so i was defaulting to "gun+magic"
also yes its paizo only, and i dont wanna be a swashbuckler. this characters meant to be the lumbering dumb uncharismatic half Wyvern kobold thing, who just beats people with his "unwieldy big sword" because "might makes right/and that delusional dragons are strong higher beings". Also the gun i want to use is a Dragoon musket. i get 3 shots. i can use cartridges and i can also augment those with Alchemical cartridge versions. and it sort of alleviates Reloading every turn.
ALSO i can just reload as a swift with a beneficial bandolier, its quicker then taking Rapid reload. the one that sounds promising is inquisitor sacred huntsmaster. also to alleviate the 10 int, i was gunna get a headband of intellect, and then once that one sticks to me. i was going to get a Headband of dex and then let that one stick to me. ( if thats how the rules work on the 24 hour attunement style items). ive always played with them basically being a permanent boost and you can then remove the item as the magic is Attached to you, and then you could technically get the other version IE Belt of str/Belt of con , Headband of int/dex.

Well the rules for downtime in this session are going to be pretty good. we can do downtime stuff during (out of game time) and itll play a big part of the game. so really it wont be a big deal. im also switch hitting with a bastard sword + shield combo with Quick learner Trait to offset the -4 Improvised weapon/non proficient effect. so even if my gun misfires and gets broken i can just melee, and even keep a Bow on hand for when it does.
also isnt there a wand for the "repair/make whole" spell or whatever. and wouldnt that just fix a gun? i just wait till Out of combat and go about casting it to fix it.
also the only good bit of gunslinger is the deed and guns, i could go gun chemist to get gunsmithing and firearm prof. i just like the idea of shooting magically enhanced bullets, kinda like some magitech rifle.
also id like to go deeper into magical means if itll mean better spells/more powerful boosts to Spellslinger features. i dont care about gunslinger and making my guns less of a pain, im handicapping myself in this way because i know how OP guns are. so it make it less OP i dont wanna have all the "Bells and whistles" to make them great, they are just the flavor/attack option, its not "my entire class" nor do i want it to become that, i jusxt want it as another more powerful option. and then i can fall back onto a bow when it inevitably Misfires.. and if i need to ill just get magic items for them or the same magic items most ranged users get.
i know ill lose out on hunter things. and i know feats are Customization , i just alrdy Chose to switch hit (in a weirder way then whats normal) so i need my feats. which is why i dont wanna multi class into like gunslinger X + Eld.Archer magus X + Hunter X. i want to just keep it as simple as possible.
also this is the sheet. itll probably be easier to have you all just look at it then trying to think through what im saying.

Dasrak wrote: With the character you're contemplating you would only ever take 1 level of Spellslinger so your wizard opposition schools don't matter. You've already got another spellcasting class (one with an animal companion for that matter) and the Spellslinger class features work with any spell slots, not just Wizard spell slots.
Investing more than one level of Spellslinger would be a mistake, and your opposition schools really don't matter if you're only taking one level of Wizard. You'll probably get more use out of wands and scrolls than you will out of your own spell slots.
GenocidingGemini wrote: Second question. What are all the gun archetypes in the game? i need to gain access to any early firearm and gunsmithing to upkeep the gun and synergize with Primal Comp. Hunter. There are way too many to list, but probably the best option for such a character is a one-level dip in Gunslinger.
GenocidingGemini wrote: 3rd question. would it just be better to Triple multi class? just take Gunslinger base and then Eldritch archer magus? Gunslinger 1 / Eldritch Archer X and Spellslinger 1 / Eldritch Archer X are very strong builds. The problem is you really have to take them from 1st level. Since you've already got quite a few levels invested in Hunter, you're way too far behind the curve and will never catch up to competency (all the while your Hunter features are falling further behind).
Michael Talley 759 wrote: Detect Magic and Read Magic become first level spells for a Spellslinger, and get's worse if you have to use two spell slots for first level to Detect Magic You'll only ever be casting those spells from wands, since they're really no good in 1st level slots anyways. i dont wanna dip beyond 1 level into something that gives Guns and magic and gunsmithing. because i just want access to guns. i also can take gun chemist for extracts. but i dont shoot magic, i shoot "bombs/greandes"
Also i dont want gunslinger its meh to me and i want something cooler then just "gunslinger", gunslinger doesnt give me anything to synergize with from my hunter class. nor does it give me magic.
i can use magic wands and scrolls. and (the only good bit about alchemist is learning also wizard spells as extracts, but i still cant SHOOT those spells i learn. and taking more multi classes are just gunna screw me over). i also kind of wanted spells, but if trhe schools dont matter aif im only taking 1 level then what 4 should i keep that will be the most useful to me? i know that casting spells from Magical wands/.scrolls are also gunna be harder for me id assume as well right?

i know its that bad, i dont wanna play something specific i want to do the hunter thing. my only other option is to take EWP(firearms) but just taking 1 feat for something seems like a waste of a slot that doesnt synergize with me outside of being a ranged attack option.
I also want to pick something cool that also gives me what i want, i dont wanna just go gunslinger for 5 levels because thats 5 levels im sacrificing away from my animal companion which i already knew was bad plus i dont need anything from the gunslinger class that woulds benefit my hunter side, outside my want for guns. at least if i use a magic class i get spells and augmentation options and other stuff.
you didnt really answer my question. my initial questions were, not wanting your opinion on if it was a bad idea ( i knew it was already a bad/difficult idea) i just wanted to know What archetypes gave gun proficiency and gunsmithing. and what schools of magic are good/the best choices to be sacrificed.
i dont care to much about my companion being weaker, seeing as i can just augment it with Evolution points from Primal Companion hunter.
so again. ill ask What 4 schools of magic are the worst ones, that a Spellslinger wizard Archetype should get rid of? or i guess the 4 best i should keep? and What are all the gun archetypes in the game?.
the only thing you did was tell me things i already knew. the only new info i got was "apparently i cant Sacrifice <any spells> to a spellslinger, even though it doesnt state WIZARD ONLY specifically or MAGUS ONLY within their class specific abilities , it only calls out TYPE of spell. so in my mind So long as it is a spell, and has the correct descriptors it can be used. regardless of <class>

hello, im looking for a couple questions answered. Firstly, the first question being What 4 schools of magic are the worst ones, that a Spellslinger wizard Archetype should get rid of? or i guess the 4 best i should keep?
i ask that one because im trying to multi class and get guns, but i want synergy with my Primal companion hunter im using. so i figured spells and more magic would be good. and guns because ill wanna shoot in close range, and because i want to shoot magic through my guns.
Second question. What are all the gun archetypes in the game? i need to gain access to any early firearm and gunsmithing to upkeep the gun and synergize with Primal Comp. Hunter.
3rd question. would it just be better to Triple multi class? just take Gunslinger base and then Eldritch archer magus?
PS TLDR, im switch hitting and i already know how feat intensive that is and id like to MULTICLASS as little as possible, but id like to use guns ASAP without compromising my hunter class. figured id do multi classing in the early levels.
guess ill just have to be "That guy" who makes a ton of single question posts or text walls and just be annoying then. :/ cause im sorta at a loss for what to do aside from just the minimally helpful resources.
well i guess i could do thatr i just didnt want to make a bunch of singular question forum posts and clog up the forum with them. and i dont wanna type out a College level Essay which is 4 pages long asking every question i need answered when i dont know the question until 40 mins later.
so you see why id like a guide/list/curated information so i didnt need to keep coming back to a forum to ask singular questions or paragraph long Text walls.
it sucks that things of what i asked for dont exist..its been like a decade P1e has been around youd think someone wouldve done something of this nature beyond the SRD/or Archives.

i have a question and ive come seeking answers, as the title states. where do i find this list of Curated and fully completed Guides for Pathfinder 1e classes? with full up-to-date and fully completed information on as many Archetypes as possible or just hitting upon the staple/main stay information. over 7 years, of playing off and on, I've only ever managed to find either 1 of 3 things. a Reddit post of someones singular post for something with barely any info. 2) ZENITH guides with SEVERE lack of completed guides or updated info. or 3) Paizo forum posts with a huge amount of posts. and useless info where people just get off topic or talk rules info or why X thing is good/bad over someones opinion.
so my question TLDR is, Where are all these completed/updated guides at, with a good curated list of what spells/feats/traits/spells/magic items to take for X class for X build path for X reason. and what is Top tier and not Top tier based upon Factors.
ANY information on where to find these things would be great, im so sick of having to scrub through SRd/AON and its MASSIVE selection of feats and reading them, in maybe finding 1 specific feat for my builds which may be useful. or for building a class ive never tried before/archetype ive never tried and wanna have a good ground floor basis to go off of.
