Gaz's History:

Gaz’s history is a bit of a mystery, even to himself. As far back as he can remember, Gaz worked as a research assistant and student for a well known professor at the University of Almas. Gaz remembers nothing of his past before his time in Andoran. Fearing he was insane or under the effect of some spell, he kept his lack of memory secret form those he worked with. Gaz existed this way for many years, housed on the campus and never venturing from the campus unless accompanying a professor or staff member on an errand. Never, never alone.

Gaz was always a bit quirky, even for a gnome. He had a voracious appetite and had a strong liking of raw fish and seafood. Unlike most gnomes, Gaz was a strong swimmer and loved to spend time in the water whenever he could. The gnome, being mostly of short stature, had a terrible temper and would occasionally burst out in small fits of rage. Those witnessing those rare outbursts should have laughed them off, but there was something unnerving about Gaz’s intensity that gave the fits an unusual gravitas.

Despite his eccentricities, Gaz was an excellent student and research assistant. It was an odd existence, but one he was thankful to have. That all changed one day as one of his supervisors was reprimanding him over some trivial task. Gaz erupted only this time something happened. His eyes took on almost reptile like visage. Bronze scaled sprouted from his body and his voice took on a supernaturally loud resonance. While he raged at the professor, he spat a line of electrical energy that struck the professor, injuring him substantially but, to Gaz’s relief, not fatally.

Gaz panicked and ran, using his small stature to hide from view until he could figure out what to do next. While hiding, he heard a group of people enter the room. A few of the voices he recognized as university staff, the others he did not. They were speaking frantically. The strangers talking about their “investment” and that the professors had “failed in their promises” and that the “experiment” needed to be dealt with before.." the voices grew muffled. Gaz was confused, but he was bright and worked some things out. With a dread he did not know existed, he realized what the humans were talking about. An experiment, the experiment. He was their experiment.

But what did it all mean? Gaz was unsure but he knew he had to leave, and quickly. At the first opportunity and for the first time in the life he could remember, he left the campus alone into the streets of Almas. He ran as far as he could until he could run no more. Gaz, having scrounged some meager earnings, found an inn to rest, regroup and plan his next move. Little did he know he Gaz would have little time to rest.

Mere moments after entering the inn, the door flew open suddenly. Gaz turned to see the disturbance but saw nothing but knew something was there, he could smell it. Something foul and not of this world. Searching for something to help him, he was set upon by the unseen beast. Suddenly, Gaz was lifted from the ground as the helpless horrified inn patrons looked on. Gaz could hear the thing’s raspy voice as it drew the gnome close. Gaz closed his eyes, waiting for what came next.

Gaz hit the floor which jolted him enough to open his eyes. He saw a small figure draped across the back of the invisible foe, hanging in mid air. The avenger, a halfling woman, plunged a dagger into the creature. The thing screamed and dissipated into mist.
The woman quickly ran to Gaz and, giving the gnome little choice, hurried him from the inn. The halfling told Gaz she was a Pathfinder and was there to help him. Gaz, not sure of who to trust, was reluctant to go with the agent. The woman persisted and ultimately convinced Gaz to leave with her.

She spirited away Gaz from Almas and explained to him that she had been aware of him at the University for some time. She apologized that she had little answers for him. All she could say is that her Society’s spies tipped her to Gaz having to do with some experiment that was being conducted by a secret group of the University at the request of the Aspsis Consortium. The woman also warned Gaz that the Consortium was a dangerous organization and would likely be sending agents for him. She also offered Gaz a chance. Join the Pathfinders and use their resources to find out what his role in all of this was. It was an offer Gaz had no choice but to accept.

Gaz now lends his talents to the Pathfinder Society as he searches for answers about his past and what was done to him at the hands of the Consortium.
