Garth grew up in Korvosa, orphaned at a young age after his father fell ill and died and his mother vanished. He was old enough and showed enough promise to be made an apprentice in a trade, and spent the rest of his youth learning his trade in smithing from his master.
He spent countless hours after years of honing his skills at the forge and workbench, working dutifully and contributing greatly to the success of his master and the shop from which they worked and sold their wares.
One day, not long ago, Garth's life was turned upside down. A small band of goons barged into the shop one night, attempting to extort coin and equipment from the owner of the shop, Garth's master in trade. Refusing to comply, the thugs pounced on the master blacksmith, murdering him. Garth looked on in shock, terrified and powerless to help his mentor.
Shaken from his quiet, unassuming life, Garth never wanted to feel that helpless again. Unsure of what would happen to his master's shop, he decided he had little time. Firing up his forge and pooling the available materials left from the inventory, Garth began crafting something he had only ever read and dreamed about. Defying his now deceased instructors warnings that this project was a dangerous fantasy, he worked the forge days on end to finish his design. Garth focused on his singular task... Building a weapon that made him a force. A weapon that would make sure he was never powerless. A weapon that could turn Korvosa over on to its head...
