To the best of my knowledge, it's only Snow Leopard on Mac OS X, and it has never been fixed by Apple... but the same problem did exist with Linux PDF readers built on a particular engine; that got fixed a while ago.

Resurrecting this issue because it is getting worse for people using Mac OS X Lion to view Paizo produced PDFs.

1) Both Preview and Adobe Acrobat Reader demonstrate the missing "A"'s in the titles.

2) Using Preview to view Paizo produced or signed PDFs (like from Super Genius) also causes the CPU of at least one core to spike to 100% until Preview is force quit.

PDFs from any other source, including other game companies like Catalyst, do not demonstrate either of these issues on Lion.

I hope you will be able to investigate this soon.

Yes, yes, I am replying to myself to eat crow. Since I posted this I did two things:

1) I downloaded the new update to the PFRPG Core Rulebook (which is WAY smaller than before, thanks!)

2) I checked the 32-bit mode option for Preview.

3) I removed the Spotlight indexing for PDFs.

And now not only is Preview working just fine with the Pathfinder PDFs, I now have all the "A"'s in my Core Rulebook titles. Awesome.

I am very excited to see the update to the other core books to fix this as well.

I almost think they shouldn't be races at all. Half-Elf and Half-Orc should each be a feat that can only be selected as a human bonus feat. (Of course, I don't expect that to make it into the rules...)

That is the first interesting idea I saw in this entire thread. It would certainly make it much easier to add other half-human variants. I would love to see something like this fleshed out.
