Backstory:
Gabriel was born into a simple home in the heartland of Talingarde. His father a soldier and loyal follower of Saranrae. His mother was a hunter, and supplied the family with supplies from nature. Gabriel grew strong and started to help his mother from a early age. She taught him to hunt prey and to gather food and water from what was around them. She spoke nothing of church or religion. He was taught that daily from his father. He grew to know the sun god, and thanked her, but never gave full devotion as his father had.
The time had come. Gabriel had turned fourteen and was fit and strong enough to serve Talingarde. His father enlisted him. It was a proud moment for the man. Gabriel too was happy. He had not done much to make his father proud. He preferred to be off in the woods playing and learning more of nature instead of drilling with his sword. Two years passed. Gabriel had grown to ba a handsome young man. He proved to be quite strong as well now in his mature body. Though he had no idea what was to happen next.
The morning after his sixteenth birthday he awoke to a quite a surprise. As he put his feet from his bed to the floor a clack was heard instead of the normal thud. As he looked down he saw hooves were his feet were supposed to be. As his eyes came up his leg they two had changed. His legs now looked as if they were of a a goat. Even his skin changed it was now the color of a deep crimson, the color of blood. He did not scream. He was in too much shock. Surely this had to be a dream. He stood, and as he did debris fell from the ceiling. As he looked up more debris fell as his massive horns scratched and tore the thatch roof. Oh my god, what has happened to me. What? What am I? He slumped back down to the bed and wept for a moment not knowing what to do. He softly called for his mother after he gathered himself. She came to the door. Everything alright in there honey?. Gabriel paused a moment. Umm… I don’t know. I think I have a problem. Just listen to my voice mom, you know its me. Is dad here? Maybe you should come in. I don’t what to do. His mother opened the door and as her eyed fell to her son she let out a scream. MONSTER!!!, HELP A MOSTER HAS MY SON!!! Gabriel moved quickly and grabbed his mother. Mom, I don’t know what happened, but its me. I’m Gabriel. A few moments passed. She stared into his eyes and focused on his voice. Gabriel? Can this be? How did this happen? What happened? Oh know it can’t be. Gabriel looked to here inquisitively. What can’t it be? What do you know you’re not telling me? His mother replied. Well son, it seems you have the blood one put into my family’s line. My mother told be of such things when I was a girl. I think she mentioned that my father’s father had made a deal and bedded a devil. He had children with this devil and my father was one of them. I never thought it was true. I thought it was something she made up because he left us before I could remember him. Now given what we are looking at here, well I’m not so sure.
Honey, I’m home. Gabriel and his mother heard the door open and the voice of his father fill the house. Gabriel looked to his mother. What do we do about dad? His mother looked on, but quickly turned he attention to the door. Honey, where are you. You in there? A knock at Gabriel’s door. Honey? His mother paused. Yes dear. Come in, but please be calm. Be calm, what in the devil are you talking about woman? As the door opened his father’s eyes darted to the two sitting on the bed. What in Sarenraes name is going on here? A fiend? Unhand my wife devil. No honey it’s Gabriel, he awoke this way he needs are help. His father paused a moment. What do you mean that’s Gabriel. That is no son of mine. Now step away I will kill this thing. Gabriel’s father drew his blade, he stood staring down the beast that was his son. So devil, what have you done with my son. Tell me and your death will be quick. Instinctively Gabriel gave a small roar showing his toothy maw to the man. I am your son you fool. Dad it’s me. Please don’t do this. A look came over the mans face as if he thought for a moment what he hears was the truth. Even if this is so, you are my son no longer. My name is one of honor and no devil blood will taint it. Now die. The man charged at Gabriel with lethal intent. Gabriel was trained and reacted as such. He managed to deflect the blade using his horns, but not enough. The blow struck true enough, it buried deep into and punctured through Gabriel’s shoulder pinning him to the wall. Mother, help me. Please. He looked to his mother. You will do no such thing woman. Whatever was our son is no more. His mother looked on shocked. She fell to her knees tears streamed from her eyes. Witnessing all he knew turn upside down Gabriel had but one choice, to flee. As his father looked on to his mother still he swiped his head down and then up. His horns opened up a gash along his father’s chest. The man fell backwards in pain. Gabriel then pulled the blade from the wall and ran off into the woods.
Gabriel was fortunate. He had grown up in these woods and spent much of his time here. He had no trouble hiding and eluding any thay may have tried seeking him out. Time passed. Gabriel’s heart started to grow bitter. He had turned to a life of banditry. He would steal from those off to market to trade. He gathered most of what he needed and stole anything else. In this time he fostered his ability to hunt men. Since he was once one he knew them well and knew how the ones that didn’t like the woods acted in them. This made them easy prey for the boy. He soon met others like himself. Living on the run taking what they want or what they need. He was given another home. One made up of misfits and like minded people. Here he thrived. One day the leader was looking for the next big score. Well Gabriel wanted to impress and move up the ranks and he had a plan. His thought was to hit the garrison he was once station at. They had weapons and supplies. In fact his time as a soldier let him know the location of many such garrisons, and how they were manned. He expressed further that their needs as a group were small. They only needed enough armor and weapons for the men they had, but if they could trade with the tribes beyond the watch wall they could become rich. Possessed by greed the leader agreed and the men started hitting garrisons.
The plan was working. They had sacked three garrisons and had plenty of supplies, but both the greed and the want for more took a hold of Gabriel and the leader. It was at the next garrison they were surprised. It seemed news had circulated of their deeds. Her waiting for them was none other than Sir Balin Knight of Alerion. The knight had prepared and ambush and it was executed flawlessly. At the end of the scuffle most of the bandits were dead or ran off. Gabril laid bloody and beaten at Sir Balin’s feet. This devil must have been in charge. Hunt down the rest or what you can find. This one will be taken to Brandiscar to face his punishment. With this Gabriel was shackled and put onto a wagon. He now finds himself on his way to Brandiscar, the famed prison that none have ever escaped. He is to be drawn and quartered for High Treason.
Hey I would like to submit Gabriel, Tiefling Ranger. Full discloser I have broken out of this prision 3 times and played into book 2 but no further. I would love to get in a good paced game that can go the long haul with it. Gabriel will be front line. I had worked out this path of the devil in another game but the GM went MIA at level 3. Let me know what you think.

I didn't read backstories. I have been in lots of games with much better writers then me and they go away. I looked at everyones posting. If you have 1000 or more then I considered you. Except for Darkness Rising. I know he is new and is trying to get in games so I didn't hold that against Hecate. I would much rather play with decent writers that post often then great ones that go away.
I mostly agree. I'm in I think 10 games now. One of my longes is a kingmaker one. I joined at level 2 and it has been 2 years and we still are at level 2, but about to face the boss of book 1. It is a very RP heavy game and has been lots of fun, but you get to a point when the story needs to advance to continue to explore your character. New things need to happen to him. So I like a group that post often and good post, but not all have to be as such sometimes its just a post to keep things moving. I guess what I'm saying is there is a ballance to it all and going to far to either side ends up not being that much fun :)
I'm betting on either I made the top 6 and others won't say my name or I didn't make it and its better to go out all noble and self righteous :) Either way its been fun.
I am no coward knight. To think I once wanted to be you. I call my own name. Gabriel Hale. Son of Marcus and Anna Hale. He looks to the crowd to meet his fathers gaze.
These men and women may be corrupt in your eyes but I will not presume I have the right to judge any of them. I can only judge myself. So now I will show you knight what it means to have honor and to take ownership of ones deeds. You would do well to take note for you have slain many in your quest for righteousness.
What the hell did I just do. I let his words of honor get the best of me. Gabriel you fool. These fiends will now just throw you to the wolves.
Now is the time to think of yourselves. I must choose to go on with whom I feel can aid me the best. I have noting against any of you, but I have my name I will give to Balin.
Fools are trying to make this political. They are not thinking of their future. Best to be bold and think who can help the most if we are to attempt an escape.
As we are marched out into the open Gabriel can't help to think to himself Why me? As he stares at his hooves clicking and clacking breaking the otherwise silence of the march.
As they come to a stop Gabriel's eyes dart around the crowd as the others. He hears the whispers and outright proclamation of "Is that a devil? Soon he notices a soldier looking out of place standing amongst the crowd. His eyes narrow as he looks closer.
No, why are they, why would they? My father and my mother here. Why. They want to see their devil spawn put to rest. Is that it? I will not let their presence effect me. They are dead to me now. I need to be strong for myself and the others.
Gabriel takes in the words that Sir Balin speaks. So we are to sentence our own. Nice twist knight. I will see you dead at my feet one day. So who do I pick. Surely they all must be looking at me as well. With the same thoughts as the masses. Lets kill the devil. No I can't think like that. I may not have made friends here, but perhaps and ally or two. So who?
I didn't negotiate the trades Jalik. Our leader did that. From what he said there was a great Bugbear leader that was uniting the tribes of all the goblinoids. They have an army, they just need weapons.
I see then. If you think me a savage that is fine. I do what I need to to survive. Yes my plan was to bring down the land. A stong enough force that gets through the watch wall will decimate the north. The army is spread through the land. I understand your thinking though. This would not be enough. Surely the land would come together under the king and kick the army out. This is where my plan is lacking.
Yeah you guys are way better writers then myself for sure. I think I hurt myself a little going the Tank build so not as cultured as the rest of you, but the country boy thing has been fun. I just don't want to post making him something he's not just to try and get into the game. Hope you guys see that. Enjoy reading everyones post though. I have no idea who my other 5 are yet.
Gabriel perks up as Tkaara asks about the crimes commited.
So you think me a fool then, my plan was grand. A murder here a murder there yes, but I sacked three northern Garrisons. Stealing weapons, armor and supplies. We used this to support our bandit group and traded and supplied the Bugbears north of the wall. The north has become soft behind the wall. An army that could breath the wall would indeed put the kingdome into termoil. One does not get sentenced to High Treason for a few simple murders. If not hung this day I will be drawn a quartered after a brief stay at Brandiscar. Well if found guilty I suppose.
Gabriel speaks with a passion and sense of regret. He doesn't regret the actions taken, he regrets not finishing the plan.
Gabriel awaits his bath as the old lady makes her rounds.
I guess the court wants us presentable. These games though. It also seems they are messing with us. They want us to question everything. What are they getting at. The food the drink, clothes and a cleaning what is next?
Gabriel takes notice as Victor speaks.
Victor, you have knowledge of the prison then? I have never seen or been there. I only know of the stories told to me by my father. He said escape was impossible and had never been achieved. Do you think different?
Gabriel finishes up his meal. He sits back and surveys the room.
So many, which one of us it to die today. Who has committed the worse atrocity. Is it me? Is it the doctor? Erevan committed treason as well. I wonder. Why so many here and now. Its like the gods brought us all here, but why? I can only hope I survive this day. Soon I will get my chance to kill again.
I know not of chivalry young miss. Just the way my folks raised me. Well until they turned on my anyways. So if a champion is what you need then I will be that. I may not be educated like the rest of you, but I hunt and kill humans pretty well. I'm slso a trained soldier. I will champion any that stand with me when the time comes.
His eyes wonder over to Amestri as she breaks her silence. He stares a moment in admiration of her beauty.
Miss Amestri. So glad to here you speak, Thought maybe took your tounge from you or something. Sorry the conversation is not what your used to. I guess when your life is about to end we talk about what we have done to maybe carry on with someone. Anyways it is nice to here you speak is all.
He shy's away, you would think he was blushing, but his skin makes it impossible to tell.
Don't worry dear the plan is not to escape here. I'm no full even though that my be the conclusion you came to. If the others underestimate me this way as well it was because I intended it to be as such.
He sits back up in his chair with a smile. He continues to eat his meal.
Hecate, I am sorry that you were treated poorly. If Balin wanted to make and example to us he should have used me. It shows his weaknes he would choose one such as you.
Gabrile looks to Hecate with eyes that show careing behind them. Its not in a lustful manner, but more of a brother looking to a sister.
Gabriel grits his teeth as Balin’s hand burns into his back. As he removes his hand Gabriel slumps for a moment before regaining his strength and compsure.
I will have my revenge on you knight. I don’t know how or when, but if not killed this day know that I am your harbinger of death.
He watches and listens as Tkaara gets to the man. As he lashes out in anger Gabriel gives a hearty chuckle.
Careful knight. You wouldn’t want to do something Evil here. He laughs more.
As they enter to dine he takes a seat next to Tkaara.
You are gifted with words and have the power to manipulate men with them. I am impressed. I wish to be your friend if you’re looking for such. I mean friendship is all we have at this point.
He looks across the table as the doctor speaks with Hecate.
I wouldn’t have pegged you for the romantic type there doctor. Maybe there is a man in there after all. I am working on a plan, it is best not to talk about it here. Stay alive and maybe you can tell her yourself how much you love her.
Gabriel eats and drinks knowing this may be some of the last food and drink they get, and he will need his strength for what lies ahead.
Lets see a doctor, a couple law experts, a couple magic wielders. What other muscle is there? Felrin maybe and Erevan, better not plan too much until I know who will still live. For all I know I will be the one executed this day.
Gabriel watches on as Balin plays his little game with Hecate. As he clenches and pulls her hair.
If you want to pick on someone knight, take it out on me. Leave the girl alone.
We sits and listens as Balin preaches to each of them as well. After he hears the Doctors words cutting at the man as if just another tool for the Doctor to use.
Forget that man, at least he didn't have to hear this self righteous load of s~#+ we all just did. I mean don't you have laws against torture. Or is it that your the executioner sent here to boar us all to killing ourselves. That must be it.
Well that may earn me a beating, maybe the doctor too. The others will view us as foolish or dumb, but I don't have anything else to loose besides my life and that seems not my own now anyways.
"Do not give up hope, devilblood. You must suck it from those who have imprisoned you. You are smart, the frozen north is a prime tool for us. If we could united them under order, our order, we can be unstoppable. I belive the black prince had guided me to you, for nothing is by coincidence, epecially in our...special cases. Me with my skin and you...with everything else. Tell me how did such a fate befall you?"
I have shared a good bit with you already. After living in the wilderness for a bit and taking what I need from would be travelers, I found a group of like minded men. We were outcast. We used my military knowledge and hit some surrounding garrisons. Once we were equipped with what we needed we stockpiled the rest. We started to sneak weapons out past the wall and trade with the Goblinoids. One of the bugbear tribes spoke os some great leader that would take the watch wall. As they promised us a more lucrative deal, we gave into our greee and tried to fulfill it. Sir Balin just happened to guess the right place to be as he laid an ambush for us. The reset well, I'm in this cell now. Maybe we have been brought together for some reason, but such things are beyond my knowledge.
An ally, well that is at least one so far, and he seems to be educated which is good. Lets see how this moves forward.
Gabriel comes to attention as the knights enter. His body language changes and his muscles swell as hatred and rage fill his eyes. He stares at Balin as he enters. His teeth clenched holding back the swears of anger he wishes to launch at the knight.
What is he doing here. If only I were free and had my sword. We would see who's better when there is no surprise.
His eyes quickly look to each other prisoner. Curious to see who looks on inquisitively or those that have hate in their gaze as well.
As the doctor gets Gabriel's attention when he speaks.
Sir Balin is a knight of Alerion. He is famed for hunting those that would wrong crown or country down. He is a honorable man that does his duty. Brandiscar may be known to you all to soon. It is the famed prison of our country.
Gabriel eyes Paimon as he speaks.
You think I care what happens with this land. My plans had no future goal, only what we could do next to hurt those that cast us out. None of that matters now. I'm sure all of you have grand schemes of revenge and what you would do if able, but the truth is you were all caught just as me and now one of us will die today.
I like you elf, I'm sorry Melphael. I know what it like to be consumed by revenge. My regret is not fulfilling my plans. See the north has grown soft behind the wall. If I could have sacked a few more garrisons and supplied the Goblinoids with some more weapons who knows what this great land would look like, but that is a dream now. I fear if not executed this day then it is off to Brandiscar. None has ever escaped its walls. My father told me stories. He even stood guard there before. If we go there it is to await our deaths.
Gabrile slumps down with a look of defeat. He gazes over all int he room.
Lets see which ones have the spirit not to give up. I don't know if escape is possible, but if others do give up I'm sure that it is not.
So many with such hate for this land. Why do they stay? I could ask the same of myself. I could have left for the mainland. I too have felt the need for revenge.
As Felrin speaks Gabriel meets his gaze.
I know not the origins of my name. It has just been that to me a name, but if you find it odd then that is fine. I don't have the luxury of being able to blend, besides I grew up in the woods and find it to be a home away from home.
Not only full of hate, many educated men and women here. I am just a simple country boy. Trained to be a soldier. Though I don't understand what the rant on about I must not let them know.
Etna, you speak of the knights of Alerion, no? I too was on the path to become one. I grew up knowing Mitra well, but never gave myself to the belief. That is all behind me now. It was Sir Balin himself that laid the ambush that caught me. I guess are ambition got the best of us.
I know nothing of this god you speak of Etna. My mother said she heard stories of devilish blood running from her side of the family, but until I changed she thought they were just stories. Mothers are funny. I loved mine once. She betrayed me the same as all the rest.
He looks to the man that presumes he has some authority over us.
You sit and think to yourself all you want, don't give us orders like your better than us. You are here for a reason as well.
Gabriel sits back a moment as if what the guards said just hit him.
An execution is it. Today even. Great. I'm sure they will want to kill the devil spawn. Though it seems I'm not the only one, but I'm the most non human looking one for sure.
I didn't really have much of a plan Erevan. I guess I was getting back at my father and all those that turned on me when I awoke in this form. It wasn't long ago I looked as young Hecate, or Tkaara are, well what I mean is human not the female part. He actually smiles thinking about his words.
But then all the people in my life turned and shunned me. I made them pay though. I became quite good at stalking and killing. I took what I needed and lived in the woods. I guess eventually I got a little too ambitious.
Gabriel looks around the room sizing all up that are here.
I know they are going to take us to Brandiscar to await whatever sentence we are given, but none have ever broken out from such a place. My father told be about it so many times. Surely I'm not meant to die yet. I must think and learn what each person is talented at.
Oh so my name is odd because of my appearance? I hope you don't judge me on that. I am not one to judge others on appearance and hope you would give me the same courtesy. I do admit if I am to die it is nice to spend some of my last moments with the company of such beautiful ladies.
He looks to each one winking. Its pretty obvious and either cute or really cheezy. That is up to the ladies.
Gabriel pulls and stretches at the manacles. He manages to wedge them down a bit on his forearm exposing his wrist. He rubs at each one of them. This is the first time they cuffed him a bit loose and the marks on his skin show damage from the chafing of the metal against his skin. Oh man does that feel good. Those bastard knights. If not for Balin we may have had a chance. So anyone else here for treason?
Gabriel is an impressive sight for most. His demon blood has came to the surface taking away almost all signs of once being human. His skin is deep crimson. His legs are more goat like then human. Hooves are where his feet should be. He has massive horns that would be better suited on a bull than a man.
Not that we will know each other long, but I’m Gabriel. So what are you guys in for?
So many of us at one time. Surely we all haven’t committed capital crimes.
Well I thought it needed to be extreme for his familly to turn on him. :) Makes that alter self on those feats pretty appealing :)
So I assume we will be able to retrain feats then. Since the Vampire ones can be taken starting at 1st level, or should we have been bitten by a vamp in our backstory. I'm just curious as I'm pretty sure I'm going to use your devil feat path.
