Taniwha wraps the chain from the pendant around his neck and bites the pendant. He smiles and lowers his head in thanks. "I was pretty sure a crew's most treasured member was the dragon fisher that brings them fresh fish, but after my experience being burned to a crisp, I would have to agree with you."
"If I was 20 feet from a watery escape, I'm going to feel foolish." Taniwha hangs his head and then moves toward the chimney.
Taniwha sticks close to Kahuranga. Once bitten, twice shy, they say.
Taniwha looks appraisingly at his partner, poking him with his tail. "You know, Captain, I don't think he can. But let's give him the best shot we can." The dragon takes the vial from the floor, leaps onto the floating witch, and gently pours the concoction into his mouth.
Taniwha attempts to make heads or tails of this wayward piece of paper.
Taniwha's eyes open, "What happened?! Where's the bag? I don't see it."

Assuming he encounters nothing threatening and doesn't hear anyone moving up behind him, Taniwha wings down the tunnel.
Taniwha, by far the better spy between himself and his partner, slinks across rooftops, keeping buildings between himself and the shop until he can slide into the shadow of a nearby chimney.
Taniwha's tail crackles again, but it swings wide of the mark.
Kahuraga points to the crossbowman and says, "Taniwha, I believe our Captain is going to need some assistance." The dragon laughs. He leaps from the leather shoulder guard, flying swiftly toward Thren. At the Captain's feet, he lashes with his tail, electricity crackling around it.
As for Dariel, Taniwha, in his tiny piratical hat and polished scales, is more than happy to charm the newcomer. "Here in the Shackles, we are the best at being rowdy, as you say." the cat-sized dragon starts a silly chant. "Let's...get...a little bit rowdy..."
"It's a fancy skyglass or something," Taniwha says as Kahuranga investigates the sextant. "Whoa, look at that chest! Let's open it."
Bound by their empathic link and their steady friendship, Kahuranga and Taniwha realize they are going to have to split up to deal with these foes. Taniwha flaps his wing fins and lashes his tail, throwing himself at the remaining hammerhead. He draws upon his draconic heritae to infuse his tail with electricity, swiping it at the hammerhead. The electricity jolts the shark, disrupting its nervous system in a fatal manner.
Clutching his master's shoulder, Taniwha unleashes a blast of draconic fire on the attacking shark.
Tahiwha turns airward, his tail thrashing and wings pumping as he launches himself out of the water and into the air.
"Sh-sh-sh-SHARKS!" he calls out as he lands on the ship. "But really, there were 3 normal sized sharks. The kinds with the flat heads. Not rays, not flat all over, but just flat and wide on their head. Paddle head or something. Anyway, the ship, half the ship, is down there. Not very far. I was expecting the water to be deep, but it was only about 60 feet. But then there is a sort of big hole. Maybe the rest of the ship is in there. Chakam stayed behind to watch the sharks or something." By the time he finishes talking, he is safely perched on Kahuranga's shoulder.
"My dragon magic can make us swim faster, so if we run into trouble, I'll enspell you and you drag me along with you, neh?"
"Wow, she knows my name. I am impressed already," whispers Taniwha, smiling a toothy dragon grin beneath his new hat.
Taniwha's eyes clear and his shoulders relax at Sandara's ministrations. He licks his lips. "Thank you, Sandara, for returning me to myself."
In any case, Taniwha says, "You want fish. Who needs fish? That thing would feed us smoked crab for a month."
Kahuranga orders some dumplings of his own, and some pork. Always impatient, Tani slides from Kahuranga's shoulder toward Rosie, begging a bit of pork. "Good eventide, milady. Could I beg of you some f#$&ing pork?" |
