Fizz then gathers Beaky's reins and pats the bird's feathers down, trying to calm him down. The sprightly gnome then leaps back atop the bird and announces, "Well, I'm ready to keep going if everyone is feeling better."

Sorry, had to make an impromptu trip back to Indiana on Thursday and have been busy working ever since. Unfortunately for the next two months I'm going to be on-call from two states away and may need to travel and work at a moment's notice.

Fizz and Beaky keep their position near the back of the group and eventually follow the others into the chamber. His normally cheery demeanor is a bit more subdued in this place. "Not a pleasant place for a burial..." he notes as he looks about at the piles of bones and other morbid signs in the room.
To be safe he draws his greatsword and asks, "Did you say there's necromancy in the room? We can't just pass that by without being sure something nasty won't sneak up behind us. Better investigate the source. Is it in the sarcophagus or the sarcophagus itself? Or is it somewhere else?"
Not being well trained in magic, Fizz waits for the others to answer the questions and investigate the source.

Fizz starts checking over his weapons and supplies. "Well, I don't think we should delay much longer. Ancient serpentfolk and denizens of the deep! Quite an adventure awaits us! The Lord Smiad will be pleased with our efforts, I am sure."

Fizz teleports atop his axebeak but dismounts once the Pathfinder camp is found. "Healing? Well, you are lucky to be in the presence of Lord Fizzbeard Dragonfiend, a servant of the Lord Smiad who has granted me some minor powers of healing. May I?"
Fizz can lay-on hands if they think it will help. He has the diseased, nauseated, and sickened mercies. I have a feeling none of that will be enough though.

Whereas the first two agents to respond to the call have bene quite subdued, the third is a sprightly gnome with bright red hair that sticks out in all directs and garishly blue dragon-hide armor covering his body. A large flightless bird follows him in as the gnome makes a deep bow. "Lord Fizzbeard Dragonfiend, at your service!" he says with a sweeping gesture of his arm. "Servant of the mighty Lord Smiad, defender of honor, winner of renown, and slayer of dragons! Pleasure to make your acquaintance!"

When Marta starts moving again, Fizz grins and claps her on the back. "Good to see you've got your movement back. You missed one tough fight against those guys but we made it through all right. And now Torch is safe, which I guess is good for the Society. Hoho! Let's get out of here."
After giving the update to Torch, Fizz simply nods politely, although he heartily disagrees with the Grandmaster. "I've got my own eyes and the eyes of my Lord looking out for me, Mr. Torch, and that has done just fine so far. There have been tough times, sure, but that's just the nature of the hunt! Glory and renown upon you all, I must be away!" Fizz mounts his axebeak and with another nod rides back in the direction of Cassomir to await his next mission at the Flaxseed Lodge.
Thanks GM! That was much tougher than I remembered from when I ran it but I had a good time. It was great to dust ol' Fizzbeard off and not have Beaky die for once.

Oh, sorry about the percentiles. I usually do it that high is a success, I forgot that you do it another way. I'll do it your way from now on with Fizz's miss chance, unless you would rather roll it.

No, no, suggestions are fine! I know Fizz's AC is great, that's why I invested in the cloak. I thought the miss chance was money better spent than spending an equal amount getting his AC up by a couple points. I just wanted to make sure the tone wasn't too critical, the way some power-gamers will flip out if your AC isn't at least 25 + your level or whatever insane metric some people go by. But I didn't think you were being that way really, but some lesser-experienced players might have taken it that way when you said our ACs were really bad for this level. I knew what you meant though.

Let's not go criticizing each other's numbers. Besides, it's particularly hard for barbarians to keep their ACs up and I've seen even higher level barbarians with just as bad ACs and they do fine by taking different strategies than just pumping up their AC.
Speaking of which, that just made me realize that I/GM haven't been rolling for Fizz's minor cloak of displacement through the whole fight. I've even got the 20% miss chance noted in his header but was so out of it trying to catch up and then saving Dunc that I completely forgot he had it.

Actually, maybe this will help:
Fizz watches as Dunc is hit again and again. As the wounds start to flow and the warrior looks as though he is about to fall, Fizz calls on the Lord Smiad. "Oh Lord, take his pains away! Give them to me!"
Casting paladin's sacrifice on that last hit just before Dunc is killed. So Fizz will take 24 damage and Dunc only takes 84 damage. I don't think he's had any damage before that so it should leave him at exactly 0 hp.
Oh, this is bad, this is bad! Fizz thinks as the party is quickly becoming overwhelmed. He tries his best to take down one of the Mantis. Whoever is closest and most injured. Not sure if their positions will change if Dunc didn't actually die there.

Phew, you guys have been busy! Fizz wouldn't have been much help on the items anyways. My exam isn't due until tomorrow but I finished early so I'm turning it in this morning just to get rid of it. I'll be catching up on all my games throughout the day. Good to be back!
Also: because Fizzbeard is small, his axebeak is actually only medium-sized. I've adjusted his token on the map. That should give everyone some more room to move in.

I recall seeing 'poor axebeak' attached to your attack rolls for much of Broken Chains.
Yeah, that's because paladins have a penalty if their mount dies! I think that axebeak might have also died during the special a couple years ago but I can't remember now. I don't have good luck with animals.

If Fizz is mounted on Beaky and not touching the ground, I'm guessing the tentacles can only affect Beaky.
Fizz shouts in surprise as the tentacles grab his axebeak. "Haha! Not today!" He calls upon the Lord Smiad's power to free his mount Swift action litany of escape to teleport 10' out of the tentacles. He then orders Beaky to close in on the nearest Aspis bugger!

On the way to Skyreach, Fizzbeard draws his glowing greatsword and guides Beaky with his legs. Now that he is on the hunt, his jovial demeanor has taken on a more serious tone although the grin on his face betrays his joy in the sport.
When the hags turn into fire, he laughs. "Oh ho! What a nice trick, I haven't seen that before! But the Lord Smiad delights in the destruction of evil things like hags!" Fizz raises his sword high and brings it down at the green-tinted flame hag as Beaky snaps out at it.
