How was the Shadowrun? Just curious since I was GM :) and I also ran almost as many PFS.

There was!

I had been lead to believe that Iron GM and even CreativeU would be supported. I have Ult. Combat and saw that people used NeonCon to get their names in the book. With Kobold Quarterly and ad's on EN World, I thought this years NeonCon would be epic. EpicFAIL.

I know that the staff had made it known that Iron GM and CreativeU were not going to be there this. Still a disappointment but in a down economy what can you do?

I for one enjoyed Neoncon, I ran 3 Shadowrun Missions, 2 PFS Scenarios (Including Saturday Night Special, I refuse to call it interactive because it wasn't) and played in 2 PFS Scenarios and a couple of boardgames/card games as well as played in demo for the Pathfinder Compatible NeoExodus which was very enjoyable thank you JP!

Granted there was some disorganization, but that's to be expected with last minute change in organization and is NEITHER the old organizer or new organizers fault.

Any Paizonians going to be there this year?

Yay!

Can't wait for the paper minis. Party is 1/3 of the way into Harrowstone and disappointed at my tokens and rehashed Kingmaker paper minis

Scarab Sages

Will you be doing a set for Carrion Crown?

As with the prepainted minis coming out soon, will you be discontinuing paper minis?

Scarab Sages

I think I was misunderstood, those are good links however

I was thinking of some more like a check list for potential combatants.

Scarab Sages

Hi I was wondering if some out there had a list of which minis would be needed per Module.

example
Haunting of Harrowstone
3 Flaming skulls, 4 zombies etc etc

Trial of the Beast
1 flesh golem, 4 wraiths etc

also does any know if paper minis are going to be done for this AP?

The group I am running is about half way thru Harrowstone and dislike my tokens that I have been using.

Hello Again

After months of delays, planning, cons and other interruptions my Carrion Crown adventure path has begun!
Now we only play twice a month so updates will not be horribly often...
To Begin lets Introduce My Players...

Olin - A mysteriously cloaked Magus/Cleric of Serenrae

Huntress - A mysterious young lass, who can employ ranger skills

Ananti - A summoner with mysterious Polychromatic eyes

Seskta - Fighter/Cleric of Serenrae

Pathian - Half Elven Magus of some renown

Fast Like Tree - Monk of the Living God

WARNING SPOILERS

The game started out well enough everyone was there expect Fast Like Tree whom from now on I will refer to as Tree arrived in Ravengro for the funeral and served as pall bearers for Professor Lorrimor's funeral, with Seskta reciting some welcome praising words for the fallen professor. The funeral procession was halted by a group farmers lead by Gibs Hespestus who accused the Professor of having been a necromancer. Quick of tongue and spite Huntress verbally backed down the angry crowd and dispersed them into the day.

After the funeral the Will was read to the party asking them a favor of taking care of Kendra the Professor's daughter for 30 days and then deliver several Tomes to Lepistadt, 100 miles north of Ravengro. After discovering the Professor's note and journal, the party believed that the professor had been murdered most foul and that there was a faction called the Whispering Way involved. Also included was the description of a cache of items that they might find useful in a false crypt located near where the professor was interred. The party decided to rest for the evening and head back out to the Restlands, to pay their respects to professor and search for the false crypt.

The next morning they awoke to a large disturbance coming from outside, upon quick investigation they discovered that the Memorial to the Guardsmen when Harrowstone Prison was defaced with a bloody "V" smeared on its base. Quickly Ananti ran and grabbed a bucket, soapy water and a brush, while Huntress determined that it was rat's blood. When finished the group departed for the Restlands.

While search the crypts, Huntress stumbled upon a tombstone freshly engraved with the Lilandra Mordan, with the epitaph "Died In Vain" right next to the false crypt. Inside the crypt the group took care of some giant centipedes that had decided to make the crypt their home and claimed the cache of items for themselves. The group then began researching based on the Professor's notes, trying to glean information of a list of everyone who had died in harrowstone, whispering way and more while more strange occurrences happen to them,,,

To BE Continued

Now I know that more had happened to the but I really did not want to spoil it for those who read this and still wanted to play. Some side notes to above, Tree arrived shortly after the funeral. During a random zombie attack (Professor came home ;) ) Huntress showed some fangs and claws, Tree panicked yelled werewolf and grappled the ranger and attempted to force feed Wolfsbane. Tree then suffered two crits, one from Huntress that came close to killing him and was almost killed via nonlethal crit by Olin.

After the group decided that they should stop being so mysterious to each other, for situations like this. Ananti turned out to be a changeling summoner of Annis Hag descent, Huntress's real name is Lilandra Mordan and a descendant of werewolf (ranger shapeshifter archetype) and Olin was a dhampir.

The session had some of the best Role Playing I've seen in probably 6 years.

Title says it all

I have some odd characters sit at my table of the years and some are just so memorable.

Howls-in-High-Pitch - Werewolf the Apocolypse - due to several bad rolls ended up a gelding and just sort of went with it and played it up.

Nude Fighter - Human Monk style after a luchre libre wrestler - The player would actually wear a mask and was very good at getting into character. Played with him at Neoncon 2010 at a couple tables I was GM.

Hidesous Mody the Abortive Midwife - Dwarven Staff Magus - enough said...

My worst game was actually pretty recently

I was playing 4E with some coworkers, and I rolled a Deva Pacifist Cleric, maximizing the healing since we had 8 people in the party and I was the only healer.

Every session I would end with having used all my dailies/action points to keep the party alive which is no big deal for me, hey I'm the cleric right? Also playing a pacifist I tended to try and negotiate with intelligent opponents to avoid combat and gain potential allies for the BIG MISSION out of the side missions.

GM commented on how my character made combat trivial...

During one Side Mission against a large party of sahaugin(sp) I was last on initiative (the classic cleric spot) and we were next to some shallow water. 4 of the enemies charged past the Goliath Warden, Half-Orc rogue, and the Dragonborn Warlord earning Attacks of Opportunities to bull rush me, (level 9 and still only had 2 magic items because of bad loot)and were unrelenting until I was unconscious and proceeded to coup de grace my cleric, while the party members were trying to interrupt them. I had yet to cast a spell due to some bad rolls for save ends effects.

Not happy of course, but to continue with the game, I rolled a Psion, a striker to try something. Over the next few games were extremely difficult for the party and what ever character seemed to be the most difficult for the GM (for a span of a couple of sessions) to handle met with an all out attack from every NPC and was coup de grace'd.

Now I have been a PFS GM for over a year now, and had been running home games and playing in other groups for the better part of twenty years and had never seen anything like this. So I tried to talk to the GM and mentioned that the party wasn't enjoying the game and why, he just replied I don't play me NPCs stupid and they use tactics.

Needless to say I started a Pathfinder Carrion Crown game and its first session is Saturday :)

I think its ok as long as the Name is not offensive. I've seen more then one Bob the Barbarian and Melf the elven Ranger before.

Hello Everyone,

Just wondering if something might break the game to badly, I mean I can run around it but figured I might check here for some suggestions.

One of my players is wanting to Play a Magus/Cleric Dhampir, Noble Scion trait selecting Conte Tiriac who is mentioned in Ashes module. Also he is wanting to be from Varno as well.

Do you think that a background like this would potentially provide too much base information going into the game?

I might be late in putting in my 2cp...

Animate Dead should not have evil descriptor, however asterisk, I would be one to reason that it is evil if you don't have the permission from the individual you are raising.

Hear me out, if you spoke to someone and asked them if and when they died it would be ok to animate them and they agreed, then it would be like organ donation, even a speak with dead before raising just to ask would remove any evil connotations from the act.

It the whole here's a dead person lets raise them against their will or even inquire about their desires makes it evil and potentially considered a form of slavery.

Now I am not trolling or trying to be funny but this is how I would try to make a Non-Evil necromancer. Evil is all about intent and method.

Probably, yes. July is a brutal month for subscribers. My bill last July was HUGE. Offset somewhat by the lighter than normal August, but July is still brutal.

Ouch is this every July?

As I happen to GM a lot more then I play in PFS, the list of Favorite GM happens to be limited to ones I've played but here is my short and in no particular order with the most memorable scenario I played in that they ran.

Venture Captain Theocrat Issak - Las Vegas Game Day - Devil We Know #1
Venture Captain Robyn Nixon - Neoncon 2010 - Mist of Mwangi
Ed DeAngelis - Las Vegas Game Day - Murder on the Throaty Mermaid

Quick background - on Saturday the weather where I live in the UK was terrible, it was 'chucking it down' as we say i.e. lots of rain. My sons said 'can we do a dungeon bash/' as they have no idea that a little prep still needs to be done, remember these are of the 'put the game/cartridge in the device' and go generation

Eldest has an elf rogue and youngest went for a dwarf fighter.

I grabbed four tiles from a certain (terrible) boardgame based on 'the worlds best known FRPG' and 2 hours later we were done - they were happy, I was happy and we had not one, but two, 'Am I still unconscious?' moments due to me fudging a bit to prevent PC rogue death.

I'm going to run Master of the Fallen Fortress for them 'leveled up' for 2nd level PC's but after that, any clues guys? Bear in mind that eldest son understands that tabletop rpgs aren't your MMORPG or PC RPG and that youngest is very much enjoying playing his dwarf (stats are str 17, dex 15, con 17, int 12, wis 16, cha 13)who walked through a horde of skellies while the rogue tried to keep up with head counts!!

Youngest son could very easily get bored with 'social interaction' but I thought that at least he's getting an experience of dad's funny looking dice and is, therefore, a future potential gamer.

The only idea I had was to convert Keep on the Borderlands for PFRPG, if I can find it in the rubbish tip that is the loft/attic...If memory serves me right doesn't is start with an intro with the watch captain or king etc then off for corridors, caverns and dungeon bashing galore?

Has anyone already done a conversion of KoTB or can point me in the right direction?

I haven't done a KotB conversion but I have found a 3.5 version of it and several others include Tomb of Horrors conversions here

Hmm I might have to increase that to one per session that they would have to return. We normally have 6hr+ sessions and then have them return card at end...except for the ones given by AP itself.

Scarab Sages

In the Player's Guide it gives only a basic idea of how to use the cards and refers to the AP itself. I search the first module and didn't find anything on uses, is it in another module? I am currently prepping to run this AP and I like what I have read so far with the 6 suits and 9 alignments, but how do players gain them etc.

Scarab Sages

If a character is staggered and has a potion belt (not sure of the name since it wasn't my character but it was an item to allow pulling out a potion as a swift action). Can he legally 5 ft step (out of AoO range) swift move pull out a potion and then as his standard action drink said potion?

The 5 ft step in the core book is list as 2 things No Action and Misc. Action, and was not clear if it would be considered a Movement therefore causing the character to be unable to drink the potion.

To keep the game moving since at that point 4 out of 5 players pulled out rule books to examine the rule, the GM ruled that it didn't make sense and that the potion was not drank since the character moved.

I agree with the ruling on this since it made sense logically because if drinking would be an entire standard action surely moving (dare I say shifting) five feet in a particular direction would be similar.

I've been trying to come to terms with this very issue recently.

I've summarized it into this:

Quote:
Gamers, in general, do not put too much thought into the fun of other gamers.

The fighter probably doesn't care if no one else gets to do anything in most encounters. And the frustrating part of this problem is that most gamers (gamers tending to be introverts) will just sit silently and not speak up about it but will walk away thinking 'that was not fun'.

Within the rules of PFS there is nothing you can do about this. If you know these people well you could try talking to them at a personal level - identifying the problem encounters and noting all the times his gimmick has denied the rest of the party an opportunity to participate. This might work. Some people are just oblivious to this sort of thing and once notified of it will make efforts to tone it down. Others will just laugh in your face and do it even more. =/

In my experience, the best solution is to just be pickier about who you game with. You might have friends that are great guys/girls but anti-fun gamers. It sucks, but sometimes the best thing you can do is walk away/opt out of a table. 'Fixing' them in most cases isn't realistic.

Thanks I will pass all these responses on

I think cleric are currently a bit bland nothing horrible mind you. I think one that should be looked at is Prestige Classes for Individual Deity in PF or based on alignment

granted I see most people lately using cleric as a multi-class option never as a pure class.

There is a lot more than just combat to these scenarios. If that is what makes a scenario exciting/boring for an entire group, I think there's a lot that is being missed. That being said, you really can't fault a player for developing a character that they love playing and utilizing their best abilities at all possible times.

My thought is, why haven't the other individuals addressed this 'in game'? It could make for some interesting banter, and ultimately, a better experience for everyone. Have the other individuals considered coming up with a character type that is suited very well for another aspect of combat that would complement this character (a rogue, for example)?

Perhaps I should clarify...

What to do if party makeup trivializes most of the combat in a scenario?

This is assuming 4-6 tier legal characters that the combination or specific build of character(s) makes it a cake walk.

Scarab Sages 1/5

I have heard this complaint from other GMs and have not ran into it myself.

Situation:
range-trip specialist fighter is optimized for tripping (obviously) and concentrating on dealing damage via Attacks of Opportunity. With how the character is setup is trivializes a lot of encounters. Now I do know that this type of character would struggle in encounters where tripping is impossible (swarms) or difficult (multi-legged monsters) but if the Acts are centered around bipeds the can be frustrating for the GM and boring for the other players. The character is Society legal just optimized and the player does really enjoy said character.

I could not answer my friend when he told me about this situation, so I am asking a wider audience.

I have always followed the RULE of COOL:Awesome before Optimized

Another situation/example would be

Multiple Cleric in Undead heavy scenarios (I've run into this before)

Scarab Sages

Both Ninja and Rogue gets sneak attack at first level.

If one was to multiclass say level 1 ninja and 1 rogue would the sneak attack be 2d6?

Hi Everyone,

I have been playing for while now and I've also run games at my local game day as well as at Neoncon.

I am going to visit family and friends and there is no PFS in the area, so I was thinking of introducing it there. Now I know there is interest and I am in good graces with the local shop so a venue and players will not be the problem.

The decision I am facing is which scenarios to play there, I would need two at the least. I am running Godsmouth Heresy for my old group as a home game and to introduce them and some one them would probably play in the PFS sessions I would be coordinating.

Which two should I use to introduce the Society? Any recommendations any of you would have?

Master of the Fallen Fortress was one I was considering. (I am lucky enough to have gotten one on free RPG day)
