Male Human

So...

I am not sure if it is lack of time or lack of energy or lack of inspiration or a combination of the above (most likely...), but I find myself unable to keep up with the game. Obviously, given the fact that it is not exactly moving at breakneck speeds, the fault, so to speak, is with me and my lack of... well... the above.

Thus, I believe I will have to withdraw and step back a little or a lot. I think I need a hiatus of sorts from the forums until such a time when my interest or energy return.

Thank you for the game. You have all been wonderful players and Joana, though it goes without saying, has been an incredible GM.

Male Human

Hmm... Quick question(s):

With 25 movement speed Ren either takes 1 action and ends up at P14 or 2 actions and can get to N14 and beyond, right?

Also, from P14, does he have line of sight to just Breckez or Zort as well?

Honestly, I am fine with whatever makes the DM's job even a little easier. Although I have never played with a block-initiative method (I think), I am sure it is not something I cannot get used to after a combat or two.

Male Human

Ren should be updated. I did add the two spells I mentioned in his spellbook, though I am not entirely sure how he is supposed to get them at the moment. Furthermore, I am also not sure if I can update his memorized spells yet.

I think I'm most interested in ghost sound, mage hand, produce flame, and shield at this point. It feels like a good all-around repertoire that should aid Jonagher's adventuring career. Maybe one idea for how to work in the spellbook could be:

GM:
** spoiler omitted **

Actually that is something I had not considered. Ren is supposed to get two free spells at level up, but it does occur to me that they do kinda sorta need to come from somewhere, especially given how we are in the middle of exploring a ruined keep and all.

As for Ren giving Jon a hand and some pointers, I am certainly all for that.

On a related note, here are my choices for level 2:

Class Feat: Cantrip Expansion

Skill Feat: Recognize Spell

Spells: Cantrip - telekinetic projectile; 1st - grease

Male Human

This week has been pretty busy and it is still going strong it seems. I will try to update Ren first chance I get, but between work, little girl at home and wife pulling a couple of 24-hour shifts at her hospital, it may very well be a couple of days before I manage to get back on track.

Male Human

Hmm... Probably going with Cantrip Expansion for the Class Feat. You can never have enough spells after all.

For the Skill Feat, not really sure. Alchemical Crafting (though I could get this with the Alchemist Dedication at some point and I am interested in this particular Dedication feat), Arcane Sense (essentially an additional cantrip slot, as detect magic is pretty useful), Quick Identification (not really sold on this), Recognize Spell (I do have the Counterspell class feat after all) and Trick Magic Item (not so sure about this either) are what I am trying to decide between.

And then I have to check the spells to choose two from. One will probably be the telekinetic projectile cantrip. Now for the other...

I am open to any and all pointers.

Male Human

Yeah, definitely. Sorry about that. Thought it was a 2-Action... well, action. I think my brain is slightly mushy from the lack of social activity.

Male Human

Mostly flavor text about keeping his distance really. That and not being able to check the map when I wrote that.

Male Human

Thanks. I think I did it.

Male Human

Quick question: Has anyone else been signed out on Microsoft Edge and unable to sign back in?

Because I have been trying for the past few days and it still has not resolved itself. Google Chrome seems to be fine though.

Two. Not more than two.

Male Human

Question: Is the beastie within range of color spray? Without hitting others as well?

Male Human

Irenaeus will most certainly be keeping his distance and providing support fire -or lightning or acid or maybe even a quarterstaff- alongside Jonagher and Shaserai.

Male Human

Just a heads up, but Ren cast shield, not mage armor.

Male Human

Fastball Special!

Male Human

Sorry guys. Internet died while out of town. Will catch up today or tomorrow.

Male Human

Going in for a bit of surgery tomorrow -nothing serious really- so I am not sure when I will be available to post. Could be as soon as tomorrow or the day after or as late as three or four days from now. DMPC as necessary please.

Male Human

Wrong world. Plus, I do not think he technically counts or even identifies as an actual medical doctor per se, sooo... yeah.

Or what Ragna said. :-D

Male Human

Things seem to be going well over here, though we were on almost complete lockdown for about a month and a half up until ten days ago. Cases, at least confirmed ones, have dropped significantly, including severe and critical ones (i.e. those that require an ICU).

So, since last week, the powers-that-be have slowly started to re-open the country, a process that is expected to take between one and two months to complete, probably closer to the latter rather than the former. Of course, backpedaling is not out of the question if deemed necessary, or so it is said anyway.

There are the occasional... "spurts" of confirmed cases and the positive cases are quite possibly going to rise with people leaving their homes again, but that is to be expected. At least testing capability appears to be growing and improving, among other things with the inclusion of both the public and private health systems' mobile testing units (basically cars with several testing kits on board, a driver, a health professional and the necessary PPE) that take samples without the person needing to leave their home.

Furthermore, flu season is more or less over and the weather is warming up considerably. Both of these conditions should help the health system to withstand the new patients in need of hospitalization that are bound to appear in the coming weeks or months. Patients that hopefully will be manageable in number.

I suppose we will see.

Male Human

I agree. It does seem like a nice little chance to both replenish resources, especially Shaserai's spells, and maybe have a bit of a chat amongst ourselves.

Male Human

No worries. Still here.

Male Human

Just got caught up. The quirk of the eyebrow and the shrug I very much liked. Pretty much the way he would have acted. :-)

Male Human

Exactly what I would have done. Thanks.

Sorry for being a bit MIA these past few days, but I have been at home taking care of our two-year old daughter amidst a wee bit of a lockdown while my wife has been working at the hospital (also a doctor). Grandparents were unavailable due to a medical emergency (thankfully nothing too severe, but it required a bit of hospital stay).

So, I'm sick and my brother, who is also sick had been in contact at work with someone that has tested positive for SARS-COV-2. I'm a lab tech, so that means they'll test me (as of now they don't test everyone with symptoms, only the worse cases), so I'll know for sure. Though I don't know when, as the office at my hospital that handles that has been most unhelpful. I'll keep checking the game as I'm able and I feel up to it.

Pretty much what it appears to start happening here as far as testing goes.

Take care and get well soon!

So as you know I am an Emergency Physician. I will attempt to check in as regularly as I can, but I have no idea how things are going to go over the next few weeks here in the US. Sorry, stay safe and wash your hands.

Best wishes to you, mate.

Male Human

Still around by the way. Just a wee bit tired -mentally, not physically so much- because of the whole situation. Being a GP, albeit a private practice one, and trying to stay informed day by day on one hand while trying to basically do triage and give medical information over the phone (who stays at home and who comes to me for a physical or goes to the hospital) due to the guidelines here is, I must admit, a bit draining. On top of trying to keep healthy mostly so I do not inadvertently pass IT (heh...) to less, shall we say, sturdy individuals, such as older relatives or those with prior conditions, does stress me out a bit.

All in all, what I am say is that my posting is going to be pretty much hit or miss for the time being.

Male Human

Well, that is neat. :-)

Question: Although it does not so much expire, it can be voluntarily dismissed, right?

Male Human

So it seems. Certainly one of the things I very much like about 2E.

Male Human

Sure. Sounds fine. :-)

Male Human

Nice! Very nice indeed.

Male Human

Welcome aboard! :-)

Male Human

I actually suspected what I would see before clicking on the link. Well played, madame! Well played indeed... :-P

Male Human

No worries! Health is paramount, so better to take care of yourself rather than the game. As Joana has said, good to know you are at least semi-OK and I wish you the best and to get rid of the semi- as soon as possible!

On a related note, if you do wish to discuss your condition -I am a doctor myself- my PM box is always open and you are always welcome. If not, that is also fine and dandy!

Once more, take care of yourself and we will be around, I am sure.

Male Human

Kinda swamped today and tomorrow. Please DMPC so as not to stall the game. Ren will be helping with trying to extinguish the fire.

The Raven Black wrote:
Pathbuilder is nice but CRB-only I fear.

Not quite. From what I can see it includes material from both the Age of Ashes AP and the Lost Omens World Guide.

Male Human

So, should I have Ren take his turn or should I give Jonagher a bit more time in case he acts after Shaserai?

Male Human

Sure, let us go with staff. It is appropriately wizardly, yes? :-)

By the way, as far as skills go...

CRB wrote:
A character gains training in certain skills at 1st level: typically two skills from their background, a small number of predetermined skills from their class, and several skills of your choice granted by your class. This training increases your proficiency ranks for those skills to trained instead of untrained and lets you use more of the skills’ actions. Sometimes you might gain training in a specific skill from multiple sources, such as if your background granted training in Crafting and you took the alchemist class, which also grants training in Crafting. Each time after the first that you would gain the trained proficiency rank in a given skill, you instead allocate the trained proficiency to any other skill of your choice.

Here it is in the Archives of Nethys PRD.

Male Human

As a human you get a choice between human heritages (Half-Elf, Half-Orc, Skilled Human, Versatile Human), as well as a 1st-level human ancestry feat (Adaptive Cantrip, Cooperative Nature, General Traininh, Haughty Obstinacy, Natural Ambition, Natural Skill, Unconventional Weaponry).

Male Human

The total modifier for trained skills is basically character level + relevant ability score modifier + 2.

That +2 at the end is the Trained bonus.

The proficiency bonus it mentions is basically level plus Trained/Expert/Master/Legendary bonus (+2/+4/+6/+8 respectively), whichever applies.

Male Human

Congratulations! And things will indeed change (trust me, I know), but it is going to be a fun ride! :-)

Male Human

Sure.

Male Human

No worries. :-)

Question regarding the following (emphasis mine):

Universalist Wizards (Core Rulebook) wrote:
Instead of specializing narrowly in an arcane school, you can become a universalist wizard—by studying all the schools equally, you devote yourself to understanding the full breadth of the arcane arts. For each level of spell you can cast, you can use Drain Bonded item once per day to recall a spell of that level (instead of using it only once per day in total). You gain an extra wizard class feat, and you add one 1st-level spell of your choice to your spellbook.

Is this in addition to the five 1st-level spells a 1st-level wizard has in his spellbook? The text is more or less identical to the equivalent entry in the other specific arcane school entries.

For example (emphasis mine again)...

Transmutation (Core Rulebook) wrote:
As a transmuter, you alter the physical properties of things, transforming creatures, objects, the natural world, and even yourself at your whim. You understand that change is inevitable. You add one 1st-level transmutation spell (such as magic weapon) to your spellbook. You learn the physical boost school spell.

However, in the entry titled Sample Spellbook it seems to indicate that you only get to have an additional known spell in your spellbook if you are a specialist wizard.

That would work. Shall we do it?

Sure, I am game. :-)

Regarding my character, I should be able to finish him, i.e. profile/character sheet and avatar and all that jazz tomorrow, meaning in about twelve hours give or take.

Male Human

Well, Irenaeus is supposed to have come to Breachill travelling from Westcrown something like a couple of days or so before the Call of Heroes.

Male Human

Ah, I see. Gotcha. Makes sense I guess, even though according to the Humans of Golarion book they did have several differences.

Male Human

Cool, thanks.

On a related note, any idea what actually happened to Chelaxians as an ethnicity? The others have remained, while the Chelaxians seem to have been replaced by the Nidalese in the CRB.

Couple of bugs they wanted to address. They will be releasing a few official updates soon-- focusing on the critical stuff, little stuff will probably be held off on so as to not overload us.

Character sheet folio has several corrections that didn't get touched in the CRB.

1) Humans are supposed to have one more language. Common+Bonus+INT.
2) Whatever proficiency you have in simple weapons is also what you should have in unarmed, including the wizard. (Monk is obviously the exception as they are better in unarmed.)
3) Ki spells cue off Wisdom for Monk.
4) Sorcerer is missing a 17th level Resolve class feature, just the same as the wizard. Master will save, critical success etc.
5) WIZARDS DON'T GET A 1ST LEVEL CLASS FEAT. Not by default, at least. No other spellcaster gets 1st level class feat. They only get them for being universalist
6) Adventure's pack has the wrong bulk. It is actually only 1 bulk.
7) Heroic Recovery takes you to 0 hit points, not 1. (The death and dying section seemed to be wrong here.)

Regarding no. 1, I am assuming the bonus language depends on the region the character is from? Even so, is it supposed to be a human regional language, such as Varisian or Shoanti and so on, or can it be any language spoken there, such as Infernal for Cheliax for example?

Case in point, what should Ren's bonus language be?

Regarding no. 5, I thought as much I even made a thread asking about it, but generally those that answered thought it was correct rather than a discrepancy. As far as Irenaeus is concerned, I just have to decide which class feat to remove. Probably Widen Spell as I do not think it will see as much use as Reach Spell at these low levels and I think I want to keep Counterspell and Hand of the Apprentice as options. Besides, there is always the option of retraining later if needed.

Also, mostly out of curiosity, but how old are the various PCs?
