you can only take a 5' step if you don't move otherwise. It's the ONLY way to move at all without provoking. Without that you would just get stuck standing there and hitting each other over and over...
Also without that casters would be stuck taking at least one, likely more, AoOs pretty much every round, and rogues would need to take them to get flanks, and it'd be really hard to get out from between two rogues, or close/escape anything with reach

Evard uses fuse Style to add Dragon to his Tiger Style, and takes a 5' step to the Southeast.
He then attacks with a powerful double-palm strike.

I like to run using groups for init. That way we aren't all waiting on one person to post. So with all of the party going one after another, we can pay in any order. Otherwise I can't post till barphami, and baccoba has to wait for both of us.
I find it keeps things moving better.

I personally have never been a proponent of punishing a child for the sins of the father. Is that not a barbaric behavior? Are you not a man? Now behave as such and sit back down. Have a drink on me. Evard recollects historical things.


Evard places a hand on Barphami's shoulder. I see that you have made new friends already, Barphami. Did I hear you mention pheasant? I am rather partial to pheasant, but I do not smell any, which is odd, is it not? Edvard asks the drunk looking at the hand grabbing the tengu, his off color eyes unblinking, his voice lacking human inflection.


Well, I shall be happy with whatever the house ail is, miss. Evard requests, as he looks around the bar for the bird-beaked individual he had seen earlier, as he is one to take onte of those that try to hide.


Having risen late, Evard d'Garess catches the tale end of that and asks To the tavern? Evard has spend the vast majority of the trip drinking, not drunk but drinking. He's a Bronze-skinned mountain of a man. Yet the scars covering his substantial musculature and the opp-putting color of his eyes that clash with his sking and hair color leave him unnatractive. He's got a somewhat alien look to him and demeanor, speaking an a monotone and as if his mind is elsewhere while sharp eyes bore into you as he stares. Even so he's a nice enough fellow, quiet but pleasant and polite, if a little formal.

He is unarmed and unarmored carrying a small bag with him He does have some sort of Glaive, but often leaves it lying around or uses it as a pole to hold his bag like a hobo. Also, anybody see that bird-beaked lady there slipping in to the local watering hole?


It gets even more spicy when elemental fist comes online and you start with the fire damage!


I've been thirsted in making a MoMS using Dragon, Tiger, and Mantis. It dips Lv1 Unarmed Fighter and the rest is MoMS/Qiggong (drunken master optional). Gets you Tiger pounce at 2, and Tiger Claws and Dragon Style at 3 for 2d6+2.5str+6. Then Dragon Ferocity at 5.

Or you skip tiger claws and get Dragon Ferocity at 3 and Elemental Fist at 5th.

It now occurs to me to take brawler 2, them MoMS for Dragon Style and Pummeling Charge by Lv4. Not sure if pumpkin damage is better than Tiger style, but once you get all iterative at +6, it gets crazy!

"Aye." Evard agrees. "He did not seem of the same temperament of this man," Evard notes, indicating the dead one, "so he may be open to reason. Lady Kalima, perhaps you can convince him of the most prudent course of action and to mend his ways, make ammends for his wrongdoing."

Evard will likely remain quiet for the start of the discussion, at least until others have said their piece, strutenizing the man's answers guaging for truth, (which is Evard's social skill...)

Evard stares longer, unblinking, then stands abruptly and makes a motion to Darruth. "I feel he is trustworthy enough. We cannot abandon him in these lands." Evard says. He also asks, "I am rather. . . severely injured and would truly appreciate if any have magic to mend wounds if you could assist me," pointing at the gash in his side where the axe sliced into him. "This is truly quite unpleasant.

"He is likely an enemy of the Stag Lord, and as such a potential ally. Yet there is prudence in your cautiousness, Abbas." Evard says with a nod as he secures the bandits. Do we mind executing the nasty one that beat the snot out of me? =]

Evard hops up onto the cart and hunches down to the bound Tiefling's level asking, "Who are you and why are you bound?" The Aasimar's piercing eyes bore into Akvious, scrutinizing every detail, and looking for any hint of deception in his reply.

Next level is when I start the unarmed striking, in earnest. But right now, Reach is useful.

"It may behoove us to execute the more violent of the bandits now? We may not be able to deal with prisoners on this trek, but that one seemed less interested in fighting... Edvard says, taking rope and bind the less violent bandit so he can be questioned, gingerly, as not to break the sleep spell.

He does still suggest killing the one with the ax

Can Evard step out of the way of the magical blast? He wouldn't have had to move, and he wouldn't provoke since he's at reach anyway?

CRIT cards are cool, but a crit miss deck tends to affect melee characters more. It doesn't make sense for Edvard, a skilled fighter to flub hard more often due to the sheer number of attacks hell be making (even more likely to crit miss if I were a flurry monk...)

So mine is a no vote to the fumble deck unless we had fumble confirmations based on BAB our something

I think Kalima's DC is 15 but Bandit 1 is down for 2 minutes, so if we can take care of Bandit 2 which is going to not be an easy thing... We'll be golden!

I've seen combats in which the GM rolls init, then averages the results, giving group init. But if a character beats the baddies then they get an action first so rogues can take init feats to hit flat footed AC if they win and won't be gimped if Edvard is mad slow

Eh, I care little for the chosen names of bandits. What does that even mean anyway? Does he have power over elk, or perhaps ride one? Or wear antlers on his head for a hat like an idiot? Edvard days with a shrug.

Evard scrutenizes the scroll and two people. Then he puts up his weapon and gives a hard smile. "Well met! It is good to have more fighting on our side. I am Evard d'Garess, and I would introduce you to Darruth and the Lady Kalima Raustald. We have traveled hard to this point and am glad you were able to catch up to us. I apologize for my less than warm reception," Evard says utterly lacking inflection and warmth in his voice, "but we welcome you to our company."

Evard's voice and expression are rather disconcerting, but something that one could get used to with some time.

He is a large man, with strange green eyes that fit poorly with his unnaturally bronze skin. He looks like the man described to you by Oleg, aside from a lack of armor, but his catfolk companion, and the striking, regal woman do match.

Edvard is oblivious until he looks back. Not one to accept being surprised, he says, "Ready yourselves. Ranged weapons." gripping his glaive and entering an aggressive stance.

Once in earshot Edvard yells, "Who approaches?" trusting in his judgment to determine friend or foe.
Edvard would be aggressive, but he's a good judge of character, so he'll assume your honesty as though I rolled a good SM check. I'll be nice = ]

GM Rob What do you think about retraining?
I have a feat that I am thinking about taking at Lv3 that gives me an attack that takes a full round action. It looks good, but I think I'd want to swap it out later. That something you'd be OK with?

It's really a question of if it makes sense to heal or attack in combat, but we were fighting a real nasty bug and the cleric channeling totally kept me up and beating the crud out of the thing also it works have likely killed me dead too. So it can be really good

I'm surprised. Usually kingmakers are pretty flooded. I do like the idea of a hedge witch tho, gives us an Int knowledge monkey, and a healer. We would be a very arcane group tho. But I got decent wish. Having a divine character may be nice tho too, considering restoration, and raise dead, or at least reincarnate

I'm heading to California for a week, leaving on saturday. I'm probably going to be totally off-grid from sunday afternoon till wednesday afternoon, and may be sporadic through the weekend.

I'll be back to normal on tuesday afternoon when I get off work, but aside from sunday through wednesday I should be able to post even if not in the most timely fashion.

Evard awakens to strike camp with Darruth once Kalima rises and begins her meditations. "This humidity is really rather unpleasant. Makes me miss the crispness of the mountain air, and cool stone halls of my homeland."
