Emberar grimaces. "I don't mind a good opera, but truth be told I'm going to come along with you just for safety's sake, Thren. Safety in numbers for both of us, I'd say." He nods to Lark and Threnody. "We may as well make our way in...as long as the rehearsal process for this opera isn't too long!"

Emberar snaps his fingers. "That's right! Lord Endymion here is a Chelish expat himself. The man hates his former homeland...fled the Navy through the Eye of Abendego itself, or so the story goes. But I guess he must still have a fondness for some of the traditions of home, given that the Three-Horned Hall is the only opera house in the Shackles." He glances at the others. "Maybe if we keep our heads low, then, we'll be fine?"

Fort Save DC 15: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16 Emberar keeps his head during the encounter with the weird fog. "What are you all doing? What - Maheem! Stop that!!" Fortunately it doesn't take much to get Brent packed up, thanks to Keltheald's grace. At Hell Harbor, Emberar also clicks his tongue when he sees the notice. "How would they even know?" he asks, glancing askance at Lark and Thren. "Though you said you're...related...to House Sarini, right? That could be trickier...my family's no one of any importance, at least." He frowns. "Surely I've managed to void my citizenship what with the piracy that's been going on lately...In any case, I think we should both like to see Hell Harbor. What are the odds we run into anyone who can identify us as Chelaxians by birth? Slim to none, I'd say."

Emberar smiles when he's leaving Owlbear. He likes the big man - it's clear that Owlbear sees the world a little differently than most of the crew, but he seems both loyal and good. When he has time to spend in port, Emberar spends most of it wandering and taking in the sights, occasionally stopping to people-watch in a tavern over a mug of rum or similar. There isn't anything he urgently needs to buy (I don't think...) and he's not very keen on watching people beat each other up for sport. But he takes copious notes for his journals! Back aboard the ship, he's about to approach Larry, Barry, and Huldren, when he sees Thren tease them. He bites his lip, frowning. I want to get them to take better care of themselves...but then again, it's not really my place, is it? And I suppose this is a pirate ship.... Ready to set sail, cap'n!

Emberar, meanwhile, sits in the hold with Owlbear. "So, my large friend," he says companionably, "How did you come to work for Captain Lark?" Diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 I have a computer once more! Happy to roleplay with Owlbear for the moment. Emberar wouldn't love the fights. ;)

Hey all. Sorry for the lack of posts. Having some serious computer/tech difficulties that will hopefully be resolved soon! Please bot me as needed.

Emberar watches Thren tend to Owlbear and manage the crew with a slight smile. Not as wild as she makes out, eh? Standing, he pats Owlbear gently on the shoulder and dusts his hands. "I'll swap out with you in a little while, Threnody - if you're all right with me hanging out with you, of course, Owlbear!"

Emberar - who hasn't gotten to know Owlbear well yet - jumps, startled, when the sturdy man takes off. "Gods above! What's up with him?" Quickly recognizing from the way Lark and Thren are treating him that there's some other, more complex story here, Emberar moves toward the group and - stopping a moderate distance away - calls out softly, "Owlbear! I think I know something that will make you feel better. Do you want to come belowdecks with me?" To Lark and Thren, he'll add in a quick aside, "Do you think you could convince him to sit with me for - say - fifteen minutes? I can probably talk him down." Roleplaying wise, Emberar is offering to guide Owlbear through some calming breathing exercises/prayers/stories about beautiful and peaceful places that he's been. Mechanically...I can take 15 minutes to prep and then cast calm emotions in a 2nd-level spell slot, if Owlbear will stay calm long enough for me to pray for it. Not sure if he will or not.

Knowledge (Local) to see if I have any more insights on this settlement: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 Emberar shrugs. "I agree that we should get things cleaned up here first, but after that one day does seem like a short leave. Two, mayhap three should be enough. Leave at noon on the third day?" To Corwin (if he can overhear Crowin's thinking out loud), he adds, "Do be careful if you choose to go there. Who knows what kind of bouts they've got going on..."

I'll be fine (the Twitter thing was light-hearted). I've been stressed about the move, but once I'm done at work (which is the end of this week, essentially) things will be much more flexible and I should have no problems. I'm leaving the gig ahead of my actual move-in date for just this reason: to have time to do so without having to tear my hair out over it. Late last week/early this week was just unfortunate because a whole pile of paperwork for the move ended up in front of me during this last week of work...

Work (K (Geo)): 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 8 + 2 = 29 Emberar frowns. "I've no objection to going up between Tempest Cay and the Widowmaker...though I'm less inclined to stopping off at Widowmaker Isle, I understand that the crew will need to blow off steam occasionally. If you think it's best, Threnody, let's do it."

I apologize, I have been busy. Trying to stay on top of things, but I'm juggling housing woes, leaving my current job this week, and opening a show there on Friday...it's been a lot. Hopefully will have a little more flexibility soon. Then again, I saw something on Twitter today where someone said, "Oh, I've figured out that adulthood is just saying, 'Next week things will be a little less crazy!' over and over again...until you die." So there's that. (:

Ready to move on! I totally misread that check you asked for; it should have been for getting the crew to stay, yes. He knows them too! Emberar reports his findings in the observatory back once he's recorded them sufficiently for his tastes. "There's a wealth of esoteric knowledge up there...some pretty odd, but if we ever have questions about celestial bodies or other planes, it could be very helpful! And it could be helpful for divinations, too, once we get it repaired..." He glances around. "Though I suppose that's...not the first priority." I'll take the crossbow bolts, though I haven't used it a ton yet! You never know, though... Otherwise, ready to move on I think.

Emberar greets everyone at Ghoral Rey warmly - the place is already starting to feel like home, though he hasn't been there long. At the end of the first day, he seeks out Lark in his quarters. "Captain, assuming you don't need me for anything else, I'd like to continue my investigation of that old observatory and any of the other interesting ruins you discovered when you were clearing out the place. I'm happy to help with something more pressing, of course, if there are practical things that need to be done, but if not..." He trails off, making his preference fairly clear. I'm fine with hand-waving a fair amount of downtime stuff; I don't have any crafting abilities and (currently) no desire/interest in retraining stuff, so I don't have much of import to do on the island unless someone has a task to assign me! I will try to help influence Capt. Fleetfoot, since I know her. I assume someone more charismatic than I (Thren? Lark?) will be making the official check. Diplomacy Aid: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Once they’re safely back aboard the Whim, Emberar beckons over Corwin and anyone else who’s still injured. “Pray with me?” Taking their hands (if they’re willing), he closes his eyes and intones, “Sunset Lord, we thank you for seeing us through the battle that we leave now. Thank you for granting us the strength of the sea, the swiftness of the wind, and the clear-eyed purpose of the sun. Now we ask that you close our wounds and guide our steps, that we may continue to sail to new vistas in your name.” As he finishes speaking, a warm golden light spreads from him around the group, and he moves among them offering quieter, personal prayers as well. Between my open spell slots and remaining channels, I think everyone can assume they’re fully healed! As the week rolls by, Emberar settles into his role switching off with Belinda at the helm. He also spends some of his spare time poring over the charts that the crew has of the Shackles, trying to ensure they’re on the best course to get home. Assuming that Kahuranga gives me a place to stand, he'll move up to the door and... I'll do a quick flyover the boat from stern to bow at about 60' off the weather deck, looking for movement and any signs of current occupancy. Trying to stay unobserved, of course. Strength: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 Re: crew influence etc., I’m fine with how things are going—but I wonder if it would be possible to have some sort of document where we track how each member of the crew feels toward the officers (or is individually, if that matters)? My thing is that since I’m newer, I don’t know the relationship these people have so I have no idea if it’s a good idea to just be friendly to everyone nearby, or if there are particular malcontents that I should be focusing on. So I like the idea, but since I don’t have an existing relationship with any of them I feel a little aimless!

I’ve been shirking my proper duties for my enjoyment of a great view!” He joins her at the helm. Knowledge (Nature) just in case I roll high: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 Well, that’s me told! Emberar grins. “How fascinating! I’ve never seen a crab that size before—but I’m inclined toward Corwin’s view. We’re on the ocean. There’s easier way to get fresh fish.”

Emberar chats with Maheem for a few moments more before taking hisbleave. Seems like a good fellow, if a bit rigid. The next day, Emberar grins at Lee. “No worries, cap’n. That’s what I’m here for! We should make it through this rain alright, but it’ll be a damp few days.” He spends his second day up in the crow’s nest (occasionally with Kahuranga) whenever it’s safe, keeping an eye out for rougher weather or other hazards. Survival: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 10 + 2 = 16
He spends some time chatting with both Kahuranga and following up with Maheem—while they work, of course. “You said the other day that you started out on a merchant ship, and it sounds like it wasn’t your fault you ended up down here in the Shackles. If you don’t mind my asking, what’s keeping you on? Why not go back to a, shall we say, socially acceptable life?” Diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12 Pace is fine for me! |
