No worries and thanks for running it in the first place. I must admit, the adventure didn't strike Ravenloft to me, but I'm glad I got to experience it to see what the 5E take is.

"Well that's interesting. There's some form of magic tied to that bottle. Might I take a look?" Einhard asks.

Does 5E require identify to be cast? Or can a skill be used?

"Perhaps there's something special about these?"

Einhard casts detect magic and searches again.

investigation: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

At least there's a +1 here? Nevermind...

Xune made light so did Einhard have disadvantage?

I wasn't sure of timing in this case, so I just assumed it wasn't up with the initial perception...

"Nice work Xune. I'll take one," says Einhard as he picks up a torch.

perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Einhard fails to notice both.

"The stories of her eyes are worrisome. Perhaps she's possessed by some foul spirit or witchery that's driving her to this goal?"

"What was all that about?" asks Einhard once they're out of ears' reach.

Noticing the strategy, Yunjiang scratches his pocket for some coins. He puts several silver pieces on the table.

"Of course, we're interested in what you have to say."

Einhard waits for the fortune teller's reaction in case extra coin is needed... in which case he adds to cover the service.

knowledge nature: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14

"Maybe something to mask the scent of the brine. That's overpowering even after you enter... maybe something more piney?" inquires Einhard, feigning interest.

@Party - who do we need to talk to next?

Einhard thanks the Lady for the games, and then excuses himself when it appears that his luck has run out at the table. "It appears Lady Luck is advising to find other diversions for the night. Perhaps there's something here that may still offer inspiration," he says, getting up and offering a brief flourish before moving on.

Oops... I keep forgetting, myself!

Lady Araignee catches herself, I mean... a musician... You must be practiced to be so bold...

The woman in the jellyfish mask accepts the proffered fan, looking down at the halfling, You are not very good at this.

"Music, like life, favors the bold. Wouldn't you agree? After all, I sense you have an agenda here as well as maintaining social norms?"

So I'm finally back up... for the most part. Not sure if you still need Einhard? Do you want him to just jump back in?

Sorry folks, but I’m going to be slow for awhile. My pc died over the weekend. I thought it was the psu, but swapping it out last night did nothing. I’m now looking at the mobo/cpu.

Does Lady Araignee appear to react to the innuendo of Order?

"Guten tag, Araignee! For tonight, the Night Wolf is at your service," replies Einhard, bowing with a dramatic flourish. "Is there a song this minstrel of the night can play for you? Your Order is my command."

perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

So much for that...

charisma(persuasion): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

Einhard approaches the spider masked woman, watching the dice game with interest. Is it supposed to be roulette?

"The silk is a nice touch, given the theme. I'd join in the game, but the dice look like they have strings attached."

Since wolves are the only legends worth mentioning in Kartakass, Einhard will go with this wolf mask.

In hindsight, I guess I should have checked to see if new outfits inherently meant +mask. Otherwise I think we missed a chance to describe the masks everyone is wearing while fulfilling one of the rules.

I guess depending on the answer to this, Einhard may start to look around to see how this can be corrected... because if we didn't grab them, we all probably stick out pretty badly.

"My friends, I would not partake in the food offered here. Something is not right; the stench of decay lingers in walls of this place."

perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
arcana: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21

Charisma: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23

Since I'm used to 2E Ravenloft, let me ask a some things:

(1) Does Dementlieu normally having undead walking around in plain site? Discoveries like this were usually causes for fear and horror checks. My initial reaction is that Kartakass doesn't have them walking around, so this would be unsettling to say the least.

(2) Is it now common knowledge who the darklord is of a domain?

(3) Is it common knowledge what a darklord is in regards to the setting?

Looks like 1, that’s fine with me

Zhang Yunjiang wrote:

"But we could also have advantage on this... Is thewe any way we can gain special wesistance to alcohol"?

I.e. any spell?

"Nonsense! Any good Kartakan can hold their mead just fine!" boasts Einhard.

Aeshuura wrote:
Just decide how much you'd like to sink into the instrument, and make a note on your sheet.

Fair enough. Einhard will sink 170GP into improving his instrument.

Ok. I figured at the very least Einhard would upgrade an instrument... even if it is just for aesthetics. Did you have a flat mod cost in mind?

Purchases:
Fine Clothes 15GP
Tiger Eye Pendant 10GP
Perfume(Cologne) 5GP

Is there a masterwork equivalent for 5E?

A rule? Perhaps a twist on Three Little Pigs for the decadent?

Three Little Pigs
Groups of three must be approached with "little pigs, little pigs, let me in!" before engaging in conversation.

Which domain are we all supposed to be meeting in?

Radaga, the one related to Daglan Daegon?

"Guten tag Alanik. I've never heard of this... Order of the Guardians, and news of most things come my way. Why is that? Too small, ja? Nonetheless, you're in luck. Einhard will help. After all, how can I refuse entertaining so many fine guests?" answers a wry man wearing a leather vest over a simple tunic. He introduces himself as Einhard to the others; his voice melodious as he speaks in Vaasi. Just in case, I don't think common is assumed for most residents in the core? Maybe something to check with folks here?

I'm ok with no dark power, unless this series expects it. Having played 2E Ravenloft, having characters with dark powers was something to be avoided, as they were given for breaking the rules of the mists by committing evil acts. Honestly, having a full party where everyone is already down the path makes it feel more like an evil campaign, but that's just me.

I usually do my own, yeah, using Archives if playing PF or dnd5.wikidot if playing DnD5.

However, my friends gave me a whole player's bundle for DNDBeyond as a birthday gift. I have to say it's quite nice and useful - though I wouldn't have paid that much money myself, honestly.

I was going to try it with the free package, but I hate that it forces you to sign in via google or apple. That essentially forces a privacy share between the two companies.

Not to mention I really dislike the idea of paying twice for books.

PC Gen has been my go-to for almost all of 3.0/3.5/PF. Sadly, it's losing support to the big name versions out there.

Just curious, but has anyone used PC Gen to create 5e characters? I'm surprised most of the backgrounds are missing; creating an existing one is creating a little more clutter than I intended.

Here is the alias for my bard. Small changes are still being made.
