The butterfly net has a small cruelty rating, though. Bread has none, so it's nice that the mechanics worked predisposition into the system. Of course, it's been a while since I've played a game of CtD with very many kind hunters (my current group has a few hunters who always want to lob firecrackers at this and outright poke ducklings with that), but the game was originally made with playing as members of PETA in mind.

I guess the next edition is breaking the walls down on predisposition as well. Not sure how I feel about that.

Yeah. The "Bread Bait" method was simple enough and told everyone exactly what it does in its name alone. You go to the market (using money you got as prizes for catching earlier ducklings), purchase the bread (higher qualities at higher levels of duckling capturing), stand back and throw (a ranged roll). Pretty straightforward.

About the rivals, though. I'm all for bringing barn cats back to their glory... but what about the foxes? Don't you think you're losing something when you place all the trees in a single "Forest Zone?" Trees were great because their were used sparingly. Now we get an entire zone? I dunno. Maybe it makes sense when all the pieces of the puzzle are put together, but releasing one photograph of a duckling at a time is probably just breaking a lot of spirits.

I also read that goslings might be introduced at some point as well, which is fine with me. Capturing ducklings is great, don't get me wrong, but it's about time the game stopped being focused solely on ducklings.

*sigh* ...and people wonder why we quacknards say the game really isn't even Capture the Ducklings anymore.

Also, what of the Muscovy ducks? They were a classic duck to play... and they've moving them over from a player's option to the rivals? That's just ridiculous.

What you're forgetting in the very first book, which I guess now counts as CtD: Classic as opposed to 1st Edition, the Muscovies were the bad guys. It's just that everybody had someone who wanted to play a reformed musocvy, or a spy muscovy, or a muscovy kitten-sympahizer. By the time the book went back to print, they simply added them to the first chapter.

You always complain about CtD forgetting its roots, but in this case, they're remembering them.

Never trust a muscovy.

But they're DUCKS, dammit! I should be able to capture muscovy ducklings if I damn well please! This is outrageous!

That's both preposterous and presumptuous! I've been catching ducklings since before they invented half the dice required for 1e's later sourcebooks. Don't get me wrong, I want others to catch ducklings... in fact, I would like to see a lot more people capture the wonderful little darlings, but not like this.

They're just dumbing down Capture the Ducklings by appealing to a generation that "caught" they're first baby animals on their little video game consules. It wasn't until Pokemon and all those MMORPG's came out that duckling-catching all of the sudden become "in." I shudder to think of all the branding and designer clothing that may come from the ducklings swimming into the mainstream.

Us real duckling-catchers know the score, though. The only true way to catch ducklings is 1e.

Capture the Ducklings 1st Edition forever!

Screw all that. They're changing so much in this new edition that you can't rightly even call it Capture the Ducklings anymore. For one, they're messing with the ecosystem. I love the ecosystem. It was a nice concentric little environment. Now they've got everything all over the place. All the trees are in some "forest zone" now and The Pond is nothing more than a chaotic mix of several elements from 1st edition. And they put spiders into the INSECT category. What gives?

Also, what of the Muscovy ducks? They were a classic duck to play... and they've moving them over from a player's option to the rivals? That's just ridiculous.

Plus, I spent enough money on the 1st Edition rulebooks... and I can't even use any of them anymore. What is this revised edition but a wash-rinse-repeat? A total money grab.

You can take my 1st edition from my cold, dead hands!
