Amelia Hawthorne:

===============Personality===============
Amelia is a brilliant intellectual with an insatiable curiosity for both the past and the unknowns of the present. She is adventurous and fearless, some might say to a fault, recklessly plunging headlong after anything that catches her interest. She is also bullheaded and rash, frequently bullying her way into any discussion on topics in which she is an expert and, as far as she is concerned, she is the foremost expert in any topic in which she holds knowledge, a trait of hers that often rubs some the wrong way. In her defense, women were only recently accepted into higher institutions of learning, and the misers that make up the old guard of such institutions would happily talk over a young woman if she did not talk over them first. Amelia is respectful and empathetic towards indigenous cultures, something that has helped immensely in her career. Amelia does not have much of a social circle, not making many friends as she charges through life, though her list of academic acquaintances is endless. Another thing she is well known for, odd though it may seem, is being an exceptional pugilist. Despite her dainty appearance, she is not the one in danger should she happen upon grave robbers in some forgotten tomb.

===============Story===============

Dr. Amelia Omari Hawthorne was born in a canoe on the Amazon in the Empire of Brazil on June 28, 1861. Her parents, Rick and Evelyn Hawthorne, were famed archeologists and explorers, their exploits making headlines around the world. The Hawthorne's were searching for a small tributary in the territory of Amazonas that would take them southwest, deep into the rainforest in search of a lost city (well, more of a village), Cuzcuita, thought to be the most eastward settlement of the ancient Incan civilization. The Hawthorne's knew they were pregnant, of course, but they were not going to let such a small inconvenience get in the way of discovery. Amelia was named in part after Omari Mboya Otieno - the loyal Swahili warrior from Loango who protected her parents' on so many of their expeditions. And so, young Amelia's life of adventure began.

Her parents kept their daughter with them whilst they explored the world. The Hawthorne's were no amateurs, and had more than sufficient funds to field a well supplied team of researchers and aids to assist them. From an early age, Amelia exhibited a keen intellect and an insatiable curiosity about the natural world. Her parents, both accomplished naturalists themselves, recognized her exceptional abilities and encouraged her passion for science and history. Under the guidance of her parents, Omari, and the occasional traveling tutor, Amelia received a rigorous education, studying the works of the renowned scientists and explorers that came before her. She had a particular aptitude for chemistry and medicine, and she delved into the secrets of chemistry, honing her skills in the laboratory and developing a deep understanding of the transformative - some might say supernatural - power of substances.

Amelia's fascination with science extended beyond the confines of the mobile laboratory, naturally. She yearned to explore uncharted territories alongside her parents, never pining for the comforts of their manor and lands in Cornwall, driven by the belief that there were undiscovered marvels waiting to be unearthed. Her dream was to combine her love for history and the natural philosophies with her thirst for adventure, pushing the boundaries of knowledge and uncovering the mysteries of the world. Alas, there was only so much education one could attain in the field and, despite her protests, a teenaged Amelia was eventually bundled up and shipped back to England to continue her formal education.

The Hawthorne's own a significant amount of land and even a small village on the North Cornish Coastline called Trevalda. In older times, the lion's share of the families' wealth came not from their arable farmland, but the two grain mills built on the small river that ran through their property. The Industrial Revolution left the mills as nothing but relics of a bygone age, but the Hawthorne's were well established amongst the landed gentry by then, and did not need the land to generate income for themselves. Instead, profits from the farmlands were used to fund the Granite Bay College of Science and Mathematics, a public school founded by Amelia's grandparents some fifty years before. That was where Amelia started her education in the classroom. After that, she bounced around to various universities, never satisfied with the 'limited' (in her words) fields of study offered by any one school, as if a schools ability to teach was constrained by the physical footprint of its' buildings. She learned medicine at the Paris Clinical School, natural philosophy at the University of Edinburgh, chemistry at the Royal School of Mines, and archeology at the Archaeological Institute at Oxford.

After completing her formal education, Amelia embarked on a series of daring and highly publicized expeditions to far-flung corners of the globe. Equipped with her extensive knowledge of science and history and a fearless spirit, she ventured into untamed landscapes, navigating treacherous jungles, arid deserts, and icy tundras. In her travels, she encountered indigenous cultures and documented their traditions and healing practices, which often incorporated hitherto unknown (back in England) natural compounds and herbs. She faced perilous encounters with wildlife, harsh climates, and even encountered the occasional bandits or grave robbers. Despite the risks, she remained undeterred, driven by an unwavering determination to expand the boundaries of scientific and historic understanding.

During her expeditions, Amelia collected samples of plants, minerals, and other natural resources, carefully documenting their properties and chemical compositions. Her discoveries yielded groundbreaking insights into the medicinal potential of these substances, fueling her desire to develop novel pharmaceutical treatments. Amelia's exploits earned her recognition among the scientific community, and her pioneering research in the field of chemistry and medicine was widely acknowledged. Despite her youth, she was a rapidly rising star amongst prestigious academics, and was regularly invited to speak at conferences and universities... on the rare occasions she found herself in the more developed parts of the world.
