As the beast rose to its feet, Dolan swung his sword at its head in an attempt to sever it.

Sorry about the delay, I kinda had this crisis of faith the other day where I thought I'd had my to hit and damage calculated wrong this entire time. Apparently I instead used an awkward method to demonstrate two handing the sword. . .

When the creature remained standing, Dolan launched himself at it, following his usual method of swings and feints that the others had surely grown accustomed to.

Dolan charged one of the other foes, hoping to run it through with his sword.

As the door was opened, Dolan put a hand up for the others, giving a signal to wait. After that he knelt down, and traced the line of a crack on the stone floor. It was a measure to help him focus, so that he could do what must be done. With that accomplished, he turned and marched outside, toward the shimmer. He expected to be attacked at any time.

Used Natural Divination, +4 to the next initiative check for the next twenty four hours

Dolan waited near the door, as Tryane suggested. Once there, he listened for anything that might indicate what was waiting on the other side.

As he inspected the room, Dolan couldn't help but voice something he'd been wondering for several moments now. "Where are all the defenders, I wonder? They were overwhelmed quickly, but surely it wasn't so quick that they couldn't have retreated down here? Perhaps we will find them within the keep." He concluded, apparently trying to convince himself.

Dolan shrugged, "Any path is as good as any other, I suppose. Perhaps that will be the way we find survivors."

He offered a nod and began down the path that Tryane had suggested.

Dolan looked over the statue, searching his memory for any mention of Naimar.

When nothing came to him, he began searching the room with the others.

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26

Dolan shrugged, "Whatever that was, it gave me the strength to continue, unless someone else would prefer to go back? Time is pressing."

Dolan watched as the light returned, eager to plunge his blade into the foe. He seemed almost disappointed, however, when none materialized. He was about to lead the others on when he noticed his wounds. "Hmm, perhaps we should return to the room with the statue before we continue on." He said, attempting to sound more concerned for the others than himself.

Dolan heard a body hit the ground and sensed that he was no longer under attack. He wondered what he should do, the knight was still fighting, and he didn't dare strike at random, he would have a better chance of hitting allies than foes. He knelt down, running his hand along the ground for his sword when he called out.

Clearly, he'd forgotten that Tryane didn't speak Celestial. . .

Which did she get, the one attacking Tryane, or me?

Dolan's curiosity about the location of the enemy was quickly answered when he felt the demon's claw swipe across his arm, followed by the rush of air that indicated two more missed strikes. Not wanting to swing his sword aimlessly in the dark, he dropped it, letting it clatter to the ground at his feet before unleashed a flurry of punches and kicks.

Dolan had no idea if these beasts could see in the dark, but if they could, there was no sense in allowing them to keep the advantage. He spoke the words to complete Obscuring Mist, and then wondered how he would continue to aid in the fight. Finally, feeling foolish, he called out to Celes, the only one able to understand him in battle.

This turn's action was so much easier to plan for before I corrected the mistake where I gave myself True Seeing as a level four spell. . .

Judging by the implication here that it will end only one ongoing magic effect, and the fact that both demons cast darkness, would dispel magic at level three end the darkness, or would Dolan need to cast it twice to fully dispel the effect?

Dolan snarled at the beast that had successfully clawed at him, though he managed to dodge the next two attacks. He wished to end this quickly, so to assist his new allies. He took a moment to focus, and then began his assault, swinging the blade one more time than he had before.

Dolan snarled at the creature, removing its teeth by shoving it away. He ducked low and swung his sword at the demon's legs, hoping to knock it off its feet. He followed the swing with a spin, standing back up in the process to continue his assault.

Dolan nodded at Celes, then motioned for Tryane to follow after him. He prepared to charge, watching for Celes to start the fight.

Dolan stopped and made a noise to signal the others. "There is something moving ahead, I don't know if it knows we are here though. Shall we charge?"

"Hmm, this does not bode well for the defenders of this keep. This statue offers unlimited healing, I would think the soldiers stationed here would rally to this room. A moment's consideration caused him to add "Perhaps they were cut off."

Dolan began to speak before stopping and clearing his throat, and said, "Look at this, there are runes here."

Dolan paced around the room, wondering why it had gone untouched. Surely the foul beasts would want to desecrate a statue like this. He studied the statue, wondering if it depicted anyone in particular.

Dolan stopped and looked to the right. He thought about asking what was going on, but surely he would be speaking and understanding only Celestial right now, the noise might give away their position anyway.

When Tyrane headed down the hall, Dolan followed her, keeping an eye out for trouble.

Dolan took the ring (gloves?) off the beast's corpse and put it on, assuming no one had any objections.

Back to present.

Dolan nodded in understanding. He didn't like speaking in moments like this, he was never sure whether it would come out in Common or Celestial, so better not to bother.

Dolan nodded. "Onward!" He announced, as he stepped forward.

Dolan started to say something, but stopped when his voice cracked, as though he hadn't spoken in some time. He cleared his throat before saying "Where would such a creature get ahold of things like these? Oh, I see. He added, suddenly looking embarrassed. "Shall we make use of them, and avenge their previous owners?"

As the creature fled, Dolan swung at it one more time.

Heeding the knight's warning, and following Valterra's example, Dolan whispered some words in Celestial, and became surrounded by a shimmering field of energy. He nodded to the group, and then elaborated, saying:

Shield of faith cast, the AC listed in the header is correct for the next nine minutes.

Dolan offered a slight bow to the priestess, before saying "By the Inheritor's grace, you will find us either victorious or dead, though I prefer the former. He added a smile with his little joke.

Dolan chuckled at Valterra's thoughts, "That seems to be the case."

As they wandered through the tunnel, he added quietly, "I was wondering how it was that you all managed to appear in the church, teleportation, perhaps?"

Dolan immediately headed for the exit. As he ran, he shouted over his shoulder, "If you are friends then come with me! They may have taken the keep, but I don't intend to let them hold it!"

Dolan looked around, making certain that there were no more foes to be seen. Once he had satisfied his curiosity, he performed a ritual he'd been taught to center himself. He found it calmed him down and allowed him to speak regularly once more.

He watched the newcomers for a moment, before he spoke. He decided to give them the benefit of the doubt, and explain himself first before demanding the same of them. "I was here with three others when the beast revealed himself and summoned minions. We slew them all, but when I killed the last of them," He pointed to one of the dretches, "Something odd happened. It was as though the world had dimmed, and then righted itself, but when the light returned, my companions were gone, replaced by you three."

Dolan watched the three, wondering what to make of them, before he added, "And you all seem unaware that anything strange has happened at all. Tell me, how did you come to be here, I don't recall you at the ceremony, and I know you didn't join the fight when the beast appeared."

Dolan turned his head to look at the slight, pale woman, and noticed the dretch that was fighting her. His eyes narrowed as he set his sights on the monster. He said something before he attacked it.

He chaged toward Celes, and stopped in time to slash at the dretch she was fighting.

Dolan felt a moment of queasiness as the world seemed to darken and shift, before finally righting itself. Looking around, Dolan realized that the world hadn't quite righted itself, as there were now three other people in the building. The corspes were apparently rearranged as well.

Upon seeing the armored knight approach, Dolan raised his sword in a defensive, warding, posture. When he spoke, it was the language of Angels that came forth.

Upon noticing that the last dretch had fled, Dolan turned and chased after it,slashing at it with his blade as he drew near.

Dolan struck at the beast with his sword again and again, the blows would have seemed random if not for the subtle timing among them.

It's a meat shield I'm looking for. I can get pretty decent AC when I need it, but it is limited time. Shield of faith gives +3, and I believe Magic Circle against evil gives +2, but that's two spells down to get to 29, then I can burn a ki point for an extra +4, but tha only lasts one round

Then again, I've never played a character at this level before, much less a gestalt at this level, so I have no idea what AC a tank should have, or if we are passed the point where avoiding hits becomes impractical.

Am I the only natural melee fighter? That's unfortunate, considering my AC

Dolan took a moment to draw his sword and hold it in a ritual pose for an instant, before he closed distance with the beast.

Casting Align Weapon to make his sword either Good or Lawful, whichever would be more useful, if one is better than the other. He is also using his swift action to raise his AC by four, making it 28 for this round. As far as where he ends the round, he is getting closer, but will stay ten feet away, so he can charge if it doesn't approach him.
