Upon hearing the word of possible trouble, Dolgrin heads over to the indicated area, looking for an angry dwarf that was not in a mirror. "What seems to be the problem here?

Tzefira pales a moment as Morythine dawns a mask seemingly made of flesh. "What...?" she begins before noticing none of the others reacting, as if used to it. So not a Brother or one of their allies... But to put that on your face? Ugh... The sylph then quietly moves with the others.

It's nice how a mathematician playing a 7 int sorcerer can make great use of the feat but the less mathematically inclined painter playing the 22 int wizard is SOL.

Such awesome role playing opportunities!

Illusion isn't just about covering things up. It's misdirection as well. Use it in that fashion. Mix it with the mundane.

Make an illusory pit over an actual closed pit trap.
Detect magic="Oh look that giant pit in the ground could be illusory!"
Interaction=Tap on the floor where the illusion lies, illusion vanishes. "Yep. It's not a pit"
Trap=When enough weight is on the area, actual pit trap opens. Witness the confusion on their faces as they plummet.

Look at it this way, the spell says that it "channels a portion of the next spell you cast into magic that heals you". It doesn't matter if it actually does any damage to anyone, the magic of the spell says that you roll dice to damage anyone inside and 25% of that damage becomes healing for you. It doesn't matter if you fireball a room full of people, a single person, or an empty chamber. The dice roll is the same and the healing you'd receive is also the same.

I disagree. I don't think there would be enough sustenance to feed any more arcane submissions. Admittedly my appetite is large, but I have no plans to go on a diet.

Ostarian unconsciously dabbed sweat from his ample brow as he looked down at his cup of wine, swirling it around in the glass as his mind wandered in thought. It has been three years since my parents were killed. It seems I have kept out of the sights of the family, but I suppose that's easy being south of the Eye. I do hope this fellow's map turns out to be accurate. The tales I gleaned from the natives, alongside those small cyclopean artefacts, do make it seem promising...

The fat man downed his drink in one gulp and raised his fleshy arm to signal for another as he turned to the large feast before him. He used his hands to pull apart the remains of a lobster shell and plucked out the last hunk of meat, dipping it into the bowl of melted butter and bringing it to his mouth. He savored the flavor, sliding the flesh around his mouth, chewing it delicately, before finally swallowing it. Ah... at least this place knows how to cook their seafood. He reached out to the bowl of butter and poured the soupy liquid into his mouth, licking his lips afterwards with a smile.

When the barmaid arrived with another cup of wine, Ostarian looked her over lasciviously. "I still hunger..., he said, reaching out a meaty, butter-covered hand to grab the girl. "How about it?" The woman sneered and wrigled herself out of his grasp, frowning at the stain on her skirts before glaring at him "Fine... fine.. How about an order of crab cakes?" he called out to her as she stalked off.

The fat man smiled down at his wine, taking another long sip. When he looked up again, a man had sat down across from him. "Ahh, you must be my contact," he said. "Would you like something to eat? The lobster is delectable." When the man did not respond, Ostarian shrugged. "Straight to business then," he contined with another sip of wine. "Fine. Show me what you have. I do hope your map is everything... everything you... ev... Excuse me... I need..." the large man, whose speech had begun to stutter and slur, stood up. One step and there was a large crash, plates and glasses rattling on the impact as the fat man collapsed to the floor.

OOC:
The crunch and a short background are in this character's profile. I may need to fiddle around some with the equipment, but everything else should be good.

EDIT: Role in party - Research. Foodie. Corpse disposal. Eventually perhaps building a crew of undead.

I'm a fan of Zon-Kuthon, so my Life Oracle uses the life link to experience the pain of the others, taking on a portion of their wounds over an extended period. Unless the wounds were small (e.g. 5 or less damage), it's nice to let them experience their own pain for a little while. Can't be selfish and all...

EDIT: and I just realized someone else had the same idea, lol.

Had a thought. Considering we'll have a couple of areas under our purview (e.g. out "vassals"), and we'll need to be out adventuring to clean the area up... We could use NPCs to handle much of the day to day (like Hezar's folks, etc.). I would, however, nominate Belina to be the one to oversee the noble families... particularly the Stendarrs...

Or rather be sure the summoner has that RP conversation with his new Imp (since the Pally will have smote the last one back to Hell), and also have it stay in one of it's Beast forms ("Yeah, like, I saw you didn't like my old Imp friend, so I decided to stick with a basic bird, right?").

I'm assuming the summoner player is the one playing the Imp too. The paladin's smiting reaction should teach him to be a tad more subtle.

Also, Imps are Devils. They tend to be a bit more insidious. Frankly, an imp that taunts a paladin is a failure and deserves to be sent back to Hell for just punishments. An Imp that can weasel it's way into the Paladin's trust and ultimately make him fall, with a side order of sold soul, deserves a promotion.

Have the birthmark symbol trait or get the tattoo holy symbol so that you can access your powers and spells, but wear the holy symbol of some other god (like Abadar). Make sure you have the knowledge (religion) and perhaps some Bluff going so you can keep abreast of what following another god means and make the motions should you need to pantomime it.

The church you set up could, on the surface be to Abadar, but in reality, holds allegience to Asmodeus. Subtly shift the normal church actions and symbology towards Asmodeus. Over time it'll be a country following Asmodeus before they even realize it.

Coming late to the game, but my interpretation focuses on the word increases in the spell definition.

Looking at the Vision and Light rules, and the Light Sources and Illumination Table, the 'normal' column lists the radius where the light around the object is considered 'normal' illumination. The second column 'increased' refers to the light level increasing within that area (outside of the 'normal' area).

My interpretation is this: A light source, regardless of what it is, sets the light level around it up to a certain radius, and increases the light level beyond that (to twice the radius). Darkness lowers the level of the light according to what the level is set to, but prevents whatever is causing the light to increase the illumination within the area beyond the initial radius (unless it is from a higher level spell).

I have a long example in a spoiler here:

Example:

So:
- A torch in an otherwise dark room sets illumination to 'normal' for 20' around it, and increases the light level to from 20'-40' which is set to 'darkness' without any light source up to 'dim'.
- Place another torch, 60' away, so that the area 20' around it is set to 'normal' and the light level from 20'-40'is increased one level to 'dim'.
- The area where the two torches increased light crosses, is now 'normal' (an increase of two levels)
- Enter the deeper darkness spell.
==20' around each torch, where the illumination was set to 'normal', the illumination is decreased two steps, to 'darkness'.
==20'-40' away from each torch, where the light did not overlap (where the light was 'dim', the light is 'supernatural darkness'.
==20'-40' away from each torch, where the light did overlap (where the light was 'normal', the light is also 'supernatural darkness'.

Why was the overlaping light level brought down from 'normal' to 'supernatural darkness'?
= Because the description of darkness explicitly says that "Nonmagical sources of light, such as torches and lanterns, do not increase the light level in an area of darkness". So the area of torch light outside the initial 20' where the light level is set to 'normal' is ignored.

Let's switch the torches to a normal light spell. The results are the same because the light spell is of a lower level.

What about if these were heightened light spells? Then it's ability to increase the light level beyond 20' (to 40') remains unhindered. The light level in the overlapping areas is increased to 'normal' before the deeper darkness spell decreases the light level by two to 'darkness'.

What if we introduce a torch or normal light spell in the overlapping heightened light area? 20' around the torch that is within the overlap, is 'normal' illumination since the heightened spells increase the light (set to 'normal' by the torch) by two steps while the deeper darkness reduces it by two steps, cancelling each other out.

Takeshi frowns hearing about the goblins. Could this be the same tribe that Tsuto was involved with? Damn him and damn them. I may not have been there then, but I am now. He then stands and looks to Ameiko, "Ameiko, I'm sorry. I know you hate it when I talk of going adventuring, but these goblins are right at our doorstep. I can't sit around hoping someone else will deal with it. Please understand, sis."

Turning back to Jorland he says: "I'll need to collect my things from home. I'll be back in five." and races out the door.
