![]() I think I’m actually going to need to bow out of this game. The system is just not clicking for me and it’s making it difficult to get into character, and this seems like a good point to bow out. GM Sarah, I appreciate the invite and I do not regret trying it out, and know that it’s nothing to do with your GMing at all! Y’all are great players and I wish I could get into the system properly with such a great group, but I think it’s just not happening on my end. I apologize for any inconvenience! ![]()
![]() Unless there's an option to "stay quiet about it now but broadcast it later once we are more established," I'd say just go ahead and broadcast. Dareia figures people will put two and two together before too long anyways, so might as well get some momentum for bigger jobs from it. I'm also curious on the XP thing, as I'm not sure what counts on that front. Like did Dary using her farm background to help with the goats count? And if so, how much? ![]()
![]() Goat Cart: Dareia shakes her head at Jonah's concern even as she winces. "Not as bad as it could have been. I was quite the animal whisperer back in the day." She laughs, then cuts herself off as her bruises do not take kindly to the movement of her chest. "Heh, apparently you can take the farm out of the girl." She does take some cheer from that thought at the very least. She pops three peppermints in her mouth to help with the pain. ![]()
![]() Dary shakes her head as she pulls herself up off the collapsed cart. "Well, how delightful." She pats herself all over to make sure she still has all of her candies, both to make sure she is not leaving a trail and because she loves her sweets. As Jonah mentions treating them as pack animals, Dary takes a deep breath. Her parents had goats on the farm, it's true. And it had been her job to take care of them every day: brush and clean, milk, and even shovel their s*!~. And, of course, use them as pack animals when needed. The thought of drawing upon that other life is obscene, but she does not really have many other options. "I will take care of the goats. You two start loading them up." She goes over the goats and leans down, petting them while she calms them and keeps them still while others adjust the harnesses and load them up. ![]()

Ohhhh. My bad. I guess I’m in a better spot than I thought! I’ll look over my capabilities and see if anything else sounds doable. Is there any penalty for trying the same skill again if it comes to that? ![]()
![]() Wagon: ”You can call me Sweets. For all the candy I carry.” She unwraps a root beer barrel and pops it in her mouth to make her point. ”I would offer you some, but I assume you are unable to partake. My condolences.” She leans back against the edge of the cart, putting on a sleepy look in her eye. If the ghost is looking for fun, she shall have to be incredibly boring. She yawns. ”Pardon, I am terribly tired after all this commotion. As much as I would like entertain a guest, I am afraid I am not terribly interesting at the moment. Perhaps one might take Jonah’s suggestion as more of a game. Why, I would do it myself if I had the energy and your capabilities.” ![]()
![]() Yep, still here! Just trying to be restrained about my stress since we are all so close to maxing out on it. If I wanted to try to subtly suggest she go do as Jonah asked, perhaps by implying there’s something more interesting and entertaining there and that staying would be boring, would that be sway I’m guessing? ![]()
![]() Dary is quick to take steps to minimize the effects of the smoke: keeping low and bringing her scarf up to cover her mouth, which she also holds tightly shut until getting down to the ground. ”Damn good shot. My gun doesn’t work from nearly that range, sad to say. We get caught up and maybe I can do somethin’ I suppose.” ![]()
![]() I’ll just take back the stress for now. I’m feeling mostly better at the moment and hope that will remain the case. I’m gonna try working again tomorrow and will have catching up to do so may not have the energy to come up with something good. I actually like Fin’s idea to try something with muscle anyways ![]()
![]() Dary notes that they are not telling the whole truth, but she does not necessarily think that is a problem. Everyone has multiple reasons for doing what they do, and why broadcast the self-serving ones if you do not need to? Still, it does let her know to keep an eye on them until she figures out what exactly the reason is. Once there’s a quiet moment to themselves, she will discretely tell the others to also keep their eyes open. ”We are professionals. Our interests align with yours, it seems. Afraid I cannot give much more detail than that. Bad form to talk so openly about one’s employers, you understand.” ![]()
![]() Dary sighs and shakes her head. ”I ain’t particularly fond of this kind of last minute change-up either. I just want to move the product and get a nice pint before the next job.” She holds up her hands, affecting annoyance, but not towards the guards themselves. ”Somebody above our heads thought it’d be a bright idea to try a fake coffin con. Bluecoats are used to seeing lots a’ those going by, eh? Which then means they needed to bring in us locals to make it look good. Figures they wouldn’t have told you yet. The people up top don’t give two thoughts to the logistics we footsoldiers gotta deal with. Probably worried about some conflict with the Lampblacks or a Bluecoat raid or something, if you ask me.” She pulls out the papers she showed the Bluecoats. ”All I’ve got in writing are these bits to throw off the Bluecoats. If you want us to turn around, I understand. Don’t wanna cause anything. Might be a bit awkward for everyone involved when the news goes back up the ladder, but I ain’t dying for a simple transport job, and you two look ready to go, eh?” She keeps herself visibly relaxed but alert, counting on her attempt at commiseration. People like it when you talk to them on the level, especially professionals who are filling a post. Everyone wants to feel respected. She just hopes she presented herself right. ![]()
![]() @Jonah that was my confusion before, too, but then I wrote it off because I was so tired last weekend. I thought that Lolo’s flashback was to get past the challenge of the guards and I was waiting for GM Sarah to present the next challenge. The flashback got us the general process to get through here and the password but it didn’t actually complete the challenge afaik? Since nobody is particularly better off and there’s talk of just going to violence anyways, I’ll just give the sway a go and see what happens. Will also keep us moving. I just wanted to make sure I checked in first since it’s a roll that would potentially derail the whole mission. Sway: 1d6 ⇒ 6 ![]()

You may disagree, but my thinking is that we have already established that we are not the normal people doing this run. I figured it would be more reasonable to acknowledge that they will probably have questions about this fact than to try to gloss over it. I know if I was doing guard duty at a criminal enterprise and some rando showed up with the password of the day, I sure as hell would have questions. ![]()
![]() Dary nods at Lolo’s question. ”Absolutely, darling.” She hops down from the cart and heads over to the guards, keeping her head low and her hood up as she heads over to where she was last told the watchers were. She does not see them herself, but she trusts Lolo’s eyes. She considers whether to try chatting them up some first, but reconsiders when she thinks they might read it as nervousness given how tense she is. No, better to just give the password up-front and wait to talk it out with them. Play it professional and canny. Crooks appreciate that. ”Blade-leviathan. Name’s Nancy Brown. Here to transport some goods. Figure you probably have questions, so I’m happy to oblige.” ![]()
![]() July 4th weekend is hell for me as it royally f@$+s with me sleep with people firing fireworks at all times of night right nearby. Worst part of living in a city. I just woke up from a nap since it’s the first quiet time I’m had. I saw Lolo mention me talking to people to get inside over in gameplay, but I was waiting for you to tell me what I needed to roll for it. Apologies if I missed that. ![]()
![]() Dareia keeps her head down and her hood up, but she does smile, tilting her head towards the Bluecoats on the ground. She drops her voice and puts on a more street-level dialect. ”Well ‘allo ‘allo, coppers. Just got a dead one here I’m moving. Dreadful stuff I, hear. Job from one a’ them fancy types don’t like people asking too many questions. I say to them, ‘Nancy Brown’s good one, she is. Know’s how to keep quiet and just do her job. You can always rely on ol’ Nancy.’ Afraid I can’t offer you a look, which I normally would, as they’ve got this box tighter’n a nobleman’s bum.” She leans in and lowers her voice. ”Think there’s somethin’ a bit unquiet in there, you catch my meanin’. But you didn’t hear it from me.” She pulls back and smiles a crooked smile once more. ”It’s all a bit hush-hush. Best I can do is show you my papers, I’m afraid. Really wish I could offer you more, but you know how those high n’mighty types are, never a thought for how hard you an’ me are working out here on the streets, never a thought for the little details, eh?” ![]()
![]() Right, so, bluecoats. I’m thinking her fake identity will be Nancy Brown, a woman known for doing various odd jobs around town. A salt-of-the-earth practical type, she takes to every job with a streetwise professionalism. I’m thinking she’ll tell them the truth, that the cart does indeed carry nightsoil. She’s moving it at night to spare folk from dealing with the smell. As for why she’s moving it, that’s an issue they’d have to take up with the teamsters union. She just does what she’s told. She will then mention the jankiness in the cart and that it’s better they let her keep moving before it breaks and they are left with a little load of s$#! to deal with. I’m assuming she would be using a sway? ![]()
![]() “Fine cover identity” is one of Dary’s spider items, so she could be the face of the group. Whoever is the “person in charge” is the one most likely to get asked for papers or other verifications, so that could help keep her from arousing too much suspicion. As a backup plan, she can bring her bottle of whiskey and lace it with her slumber essence. Offer the guards a friendly drink and send them to sleep. When there’s a lot of unknown variables, I’m less about planning and more about contingencies. I like having resources and backup plans to fluidly react. Which appears to be what this game is designed for :D |
