Brother Andrew uses his spoon to stir in the bits of bread into his soup. At the mention of House Medvyed his eye brows slowly raise. “House Medvyed? Oh, how I used to enjoy reading on the history of the political ties. Marriages, betrayals, wars, the never ending desire for more territory. Lucky for House Medvyed, they have natural protection in the form of the woods and the mountains. Well, that is unless the giants come down wanting to leave their domain…” with a laugh and a wave of a hand he continues. “oh but I am sure you know better than to believe stories like that…”

The meal goes on with basic small talk and even some of the children asking about your adventures and exploits. Some even are amazed in wonder at the fact that you are of a noble house and that you would come here to this little hole in the wall of an orphanage.

Once lunch is over, Brother Andrew leads you back to the front entrance. This time it’s a much quicker route. “Master Ildelaren, the orphanage is forever indebted to you and your generosity. Please, if there is anything I can do… just ask. Is your house in need of good servants or stable hands? Though you don’t have the look of a typical knight, are you in need of a squire?”

Brother Andrew stands at the entrance holding a hand out in thanks. “Thank you once again for your generosity. The impact will last for years to come.”

What do you do? Where do you go?

Darivan makes his way back through the tunnel, remembering to keep his head low. Making his way through this times seems a bit tougher because of the stiffness of the breastplate. Scaled Mail was much simpler and not so clunky… then again it will keep you better protected.

As you continue through the tunnel towards the exit you hear the sounds of steel on steel picking back up as Barain starts working on the sword. The Ting, Ting, Ting, Ting begins to get quieter as you round a few corners and find daylight pouring down into the entry stairwell.

Emerging from the darkness of Redburgh your quickly realize that your eyes had adjusted to the lack of light and you are almost blinded as the sun hits you straight on. Once your eyes clear another of your senses takes over as you smell food. Your stomach grumbles and you think to yourself It has been a long morning since breakfast. Where do you go?

Hey guys! One thing I have been meaning to ask of you is if you could put your characters birthday on their sheets. Because this game can span years in game I want to keep track of that. Thanks!

Barain nods in approval; "Th' standard breastplate it is. 175 gauld sairr. first hin' in th' morn an' she will be dain. See ye 'en!"

At this point Darivan has the remaining time of the day to get anything else he might need. It is your call. Make sure you mark on your character sheet the change of armor and gold.

Brother Andrew gives a slight bow as he moves his hand to pick up the coin. “Good sir, you must know what every little bit that is given to Erastil Bu… as his eyes finally fall upon what you have given his voice leaves him but his mouth is still moving. He looks up and meets you eye to eye as he picks up the coins and places them into a pouch. “This… this… is such a generous donation.”

Brother Andrew rounds the table and offers you his hand in thanks. “Please, come with me. I want to show you something.” he places his hand on your back as he begins moving forward, prompting you to do the same. As you walk through the halls you see open doors into bedrooms with two, three, and even four bunkbeds crammed into each one. “You must meet the children that you are helping. These are children left behind when sickness takes the parents, or they have gone off to war and never came back, and even a few that have been born due to the victory celebrations of battle. Some are wanted but left behind, some are unwanted and forgotten.”

Brother Andrew leads you around the halls and stair wells to see the multitude of children within. Then you finally make it to a large common room with tables and chairs that is overflowing with the children. “Please, it is lunch time and you should join us.”

He leads you through the line and the children are looking up to you with hope in their eyes. Your clothing speaks to them as if you are a noble, your weapons make you seem an adventurer. Are you a noble coming to hire/buy a new batch of house servants, or an adventurer needing a squire as you depart?

Brother Andrew picks up a plate that has a bowl on it. He passes it to you. You look in and see the bowl contains soup, if you could call it that. What is within is a watered down broth with a meager amount of vegetables and noodles in it. You also have a small slice of bread that is toasted… stale… you’re unsure.

He leads you to a table with what appears to be the older children and gestures for you to sit at an open stool. “Please sit. I am intrigued to learn more about you master….” he trails off as he realizes he was caught up in the overwhelming gift and the urge to show you the facilities. “I beg your pardon, I must have missed your name…”

Barain waves his hand as he continues to look over the blade. “Gang aheid son, try it oan. Ah can make minur adjustments tae th’ armur tae make it fit better.” He checks the balance of the blade, which is balanced well enough but he pulls out a dagger from his belt and begins to cut the leather free from the hilt. He checks the balance again, and it seems perfect. “Thes is a guid blade, jist needs some minur wark.”

Setting your blade on his workbench he moves to help you try on the armor. It is rather awkward to take off the scaled mail and put on a breast plate when you are hunched over. After a few moments of struggling you are able to get the armor equipped. “Thaur ye gang, jist puckle changes an’ she woods be a perfect fit.”

He begins to look over the scaled mail as you are getting situated with the breast plate. “Afair we gie doon tae final totals, ye need tae ken ‘at if ye gang wi’ th’ regular breastplate it woods be 175 gauld wi’ yer armor. If ye went wi’ th’ higher quality one it woods be 300 gauld wi’ yer armur. Ah will gie ye a bit ay a beter deal if ye spend mair gauld”

He places his hand on your longsword once again. “Noo abit thes blade. “Orphanage… what do you want with a place like that?” the merchant says as he is coiling up the rope he received in the trade. “I suppose that’s none of my business. So south to the Riverside, take the middle bridge and keep on the road till you hit the south wall. It will be the building on the corner to your right. Best of luck to ya. And if you need anything else you know where to find me. I have all the travel supplies you could need!”

Nerandeth makes his way south on the main road. Upon reaching the bridge at the river he can feel the cool wind pickup and Nerandeth pulls his cloak tighter around himself. As you enter into Riverside you begin to see many men and women who are in different types of armor, carrying different styles of weapons, and even those who look like they could handle themselves without either. You have entered into the area known for its schools of specialties.

Continuing onto the path that the merchant told you about you eventually hit the southern wall and see the corner building that has the looks of an orphanage upon it. Kids of all ages running about and a few hands trying to corral them all. As Nerandeth enters the three story tall building, a smell of dust, mildew, and people who need baths overwhelm you. An older gentleman sitting at a desk near the entryway pulls down his classes as he sees you enter.

As he stands up the gentleman shuts ledger book he was working in and makes his way towards you. “Welcome!” he says with a flourish of a bow. I am brother Andrew, the keeper of the youth. “What brings you to the Erastil Bud’s Orphanage?

Barain moves forward and reaches his hand out to touch your armor. “Humm, lit me see whit yoo got thaur. Scaled mail ye say? Yeah, we can wark it a trade. Ah hae soom types ah can shaw ye… if ye hae th’ coin.” Barain moves back behind his worktable and opens up a large but squat wooden closet. He pulls out three different Breastplates and unstacks them from within each other.

“Ah forged each ay these myself. Thes first is a regular breastplate. Thes next is ay bit higher quality. Ye can see frae th’ straps an’ mesh within ‘at it allows ye a bit mair movement.” The third set he pulls out is wrapped up safely within a cloth that looks as soft as velvet. Barain unwraps the breastplate to reveal an armor the seems to collect all of the light in the room and make it brighter. “Thes haur is gart frae mithral mined frae th’ Fife King Moontains by mah ancestors.”

Motioning for you to examine the three Breastplates he moves to the side and says. “hile ye swatch, lit me see ‘at blade ay yoors.” If you hand him your blade he begins to inspect it.

Also, this type of game is a bit like improve. In improve you always want to leave the door open for someone to interact with what you are doing or saying. It is the "yes, and..." principle. PBP games, even real life games, are exactly this. When we make post as players or DMs we should leave options for those who are telling the story with us to do something with what we are putting out there.

I posted it at the top, but take a bit of time to read This Post before continuing. It literally changed the way that I game.

*thinks for a minute* Nah, I'll stick with the regular silk rope. Maybe I'll take another craft skill and make my own later.

Not a problem, I have you walking with Darivan as he is heading towards Lowtown. Feel free to let me know where Nerandeth cuts off and what he is thinking and I will run with it from there.

The two of you begin making your way through the city. It is a busy morning and difficult traveling through the roads. In the back of your minds you are thankful that Jarvis and Marcus had taken the horses and wagon ahead to the Two Inn the Hand ahead of you. That would have made things difficult.

As you get to the center of the city you begin to hear the sounds of shouting and cheering. You take a few moments to head towards the sounds and you see two men, a half-orc and a human, standing on a red platform that is about 5-feet above the crowd. They are shirtless and wielding dueling swords.

You are unable to hear what is being said, but they quickly flick their blades to action and they are in a duel. The dance between the two swordsmen is... beautiful. It almost looks as if it is choreographed and this is a performance. That quickly changes as the half-orcs blade catches the other's leg. He stumbles for a moment and quickly parries what was going to be a killing blow. This is no dance, this is a duel...

As you continue to make your way around the square your eyes are focused on this fight, as is everyone's within the square. You are unsure of how long it takes you to make it across but suddenly you are brought back to reality when the human man pushes he sword through the middle of the half-orc, who falls onto the platform. Looking closely at the platform you quickly realize why it is called Red Table Square, it is because it is stained red from the blood of those who fall upon it.

As you continue on you make your way through the Citymarket. Vendors with all types of meats, fruits, vegetables, spices, etc... are all calling out the deals they have to offer on their products, which are the Freshest in town!. The sights, sounds, and aromas can be a bit overwhelming for anyone who might not be used to the city life. Everyone pulling for your attention, not that you need their goods but they seem to draw you in.

Then you finally make it to Lowtown. On the surface level you see dwarven stands and makeshift shops with your run of the mill metal worked goods. Things that your standard city goers would need. You also see these funny round pipes shooting out of the ground about two feet with smoke bellowing out of them, each one has a cap that would prevent rain or other objects from entering into them. You find yourself to the entry point into the lower levels of Lowtown, except the wooden sign above the entry point says Redburgh…

The wooden stairs descend into the earth. As you make your way you realize what the guard at the Citadel was talking about, this entryway and the tunnels they lead you to leave you hunched over for the entirety of your visit. The mud and stone walls are reinforced with wooden studs to form a support system that can hold the weight of the world back. As you get deeper and further way from the stairs you realize that it is getting dark in here. There are torches throughout the area, but you find yourself straining to see the words on the signs.

Even with the hindrance of the darkness for your eyes, your ears hear an awfully familiar ringing of steel upon steel. Following the sound through a few different tunnels you find yourself standing before a dwarf who is currently hammering out a piece of metal that looks like it will shaped into some type of armor.

Sweat glistens off of his arms and brow as the fires of his forge burns closely behind him. Setting his hammer down the dwarf grabs a waterskin and takes a long pull off of it. At that moment he realizes that he has an audience.

In a thick dwarven tongue, the dwarf says in common. “By th’ forges ay Torag! Don’t ye ken nae tae sneak upon a dwarf while he is workin’ his stel? Ye coods hae hud a ammer flung at ye!” He takes of his leather gloves and apron, wipes off the sweat of his brow with a rag and offers up a hand. “Barain Golka, smithy by trade. Whit ings ye tois doon intae Redburgh thes braw morn?” Looking you over he continues. “Ye tois cme don fur a guid blade, shield ur armur?”

If Nerandeth breaks off at any point let me know from where and I will pick up his scene from there.

One of the guards at the front of the Citadel overhears what you are looking for and speaks up as he clears his throat. "If you are looking for some armor or even some repairs and you don't mind going underground you can head over to Lowtown. Its the dwarven sector of the city. It runs three levels under ground and you'll have to duck a bit, but it is worth the effort."

The guard on the opposite side of the front doors speaks up. "That, or you could save yourself a bit of a back ache before heading off and just go over to the Citymarket. A wider selection of goods for your travels. Both are north west of the Red Table Square." They both fall silent once they share a bit of information.

So I suppose I should share with you the playstyle I am typically used to. I am very much a DM that runs a game that things aren’t hand waved. If my PCs want it to happen then it needs to be RPed. I never just assume something. So if you’d like a spider silk rope then you need to check out the shops, etc. hopefully being in-depth is something you’d like to do so that we can build an immersive story and game together.

Jarvis, with a slight bow, continues. "Thanks you Master Ildelaren. I will make sure that we have what we might need for this expedition. I will also make sure that Marcus gets the proper equipment." He gives Marcus a sidelong look. "He is good with the blade, I just am not sure about his bargaining skills..."

"Regardless, as you were in your meeting I asked around with the aids who live in the Citadel what where to stay. If it pleases, Marcus and I will head over to the Two Inn The Hand. It seems like we should want a nice place to stay before this journey. Who knows how long it will be before a bath."

"We will head there and get the horses stabled for the night and get us checked in." looking towards Darivan, "How many rooms shall I request?"

Marcus, a gruff man in his middle age, walks around Nerandeth and Darivan looking Darivan over. He leans in close and speaks to Darivan. "Herald of dragons? Have ya seen dragons before? I've fought many a battles and have seen some of the strongest men on the line piss their pants when a dragon came around. There is a lot of things to be heraldin in the world, don't know if dragons would be one of them..."

Jarvis speaks up. "If that is all, we will head to the Two Inn The Hand after getting our supplies. Master Orlovsky, was it? I look forward to getting to know you." Jarvis and Marcus head towards the wagon and horses and begin to head out of the Citadel courtyard.

So I knew Marcus sounded familiar, and I can't believe that I drew a blank that it was also your body guard. Oh well names can happen.

What will the two of your do this day?

“Marcus if you would, please show our guest out.” Lord Mayor turns his attention from you to papers on the his desk. Absentmindedly he takes the wooden box from the desk and puts it back in the desk drawer.

Marcus walks over and speaks up; “If you would...” he gestures for you to follow. It is silent as Marcus leads you through the Citadel, other than the sound of your boots hitting the pristine floor. Reaching the double doors Marcus opens them, gives you a slight smile and a nod, and shuts the door behind you.

Standing in the courtyard, besides you is a stranger who you have just been charged to explore the Stolen Lands with, before you is two men standing besides a wagon that is being drawn by two light horses. One who seems to be a butler walks towards Nerandeth and falls in line with him, all the while giving Darivan a questioning eye.

“Master Ildelaren, how did everything go with your meeting with Lord Mayor Sellemius?”

@Nerandeth the two men are from your family’s house. You know them, they know you. They have been with you since you were young.

The two of you have all day to explore Ristov, more if you would like. The world is free to explore.

Correct, one pouch each. The money is there to use “anyway you see fit to help you get settled in,” but I would have to ask is would Darivan so willingly sell off the sword he got from the knight Sir Aethelred Waincroft? If so, thats fine. It was just something that jumped into my mind.

A smile forms across the Lord Mayor's face. "Excellent, I knew this would be a good selection." Waving his hand to the servant standing at the doors. "Marcus, if you would. We need to commemorate this with a toast!" He gestures towards a side table where there is a container of wine and a few goblets.

Marcus quietly comes over and pours the Lord Mayor's wine first, then services the two of you. He raises his goblet. "To exploration, expansion, and prosperity!" He takes a drink and sets down his goblet as he stands up. "The Stolen Lands is the first critical piece to our expansion. We have fought against bandits, tribes from Numeria and Iobaria, and even the wild of the River Kingdoms themselves have Stolen them from us!"

He slides open a drawer of his desk and pulls out a wooden box. Setting the box on the table, opening it to reveal two small leather pouches. "The success of our goal is tied up in what you do in the South. These pouches are not from the Sword Lords, or even Lord Surtova. I am personally invested in your exploration. Use these anyway you see fit to help you to get settled in the Stolen Lands, and at Oleg's trading post."

He slides the box towards the two of you as he sits down. "Now, unless there is anything else, the two of you have quite the journey ahead of you to reach Oleg's. You may want to prepare to leave at first light, giving you today to gather supplies."

When you look in the pouch:

Within the pouch you see 50 Platinum pieces. Equal to 500 gold.

Post up.

Swordlord’s Charter:

Be it so known that the bearer of this charter has been charged by the Swordlords of Restov, acting upon the greater good and authority vested within them by the office of the Regent of the Dragonscale Throne, has granted the right of exploration and travel within the wilderness region known as the Greenbelt. Exploration should be limited to an area no further than thirty-six miles east and west and sixty miles south of Oleg’s Trading Post. The carrier of this charter should also strive against banditry and other unlawful behavior to be encountered. The punishment for unrepentant banditry remains, as always, execution by sword or rope. So witnessed on this 24th day of Calistril, under watchful eye of the Lordship of Restov and authority granted by Lord Noleski Surtova, current Regent of the Dragonscale Throne.

Lord Mayor Ioseph Sellemius shifts in his high backed chair and the creaking of the old chair snaps you out of your daze. You look up from this charter and suddenly you realize to where you are.

You are sitting in the Citadel, the home of Lord Mayor Ioseph Sellemius. You are currently sitting before the Lord Mayor as he has just told you that you will be sent to explore an expanse of land known as the Greenbelt, and handed you the charter allowing you to do this. In the name of the Regent of the Dragonscale Throne, Lord Noleski Surtova, of course. Lord Mayor Ioseph Sellemius is a Taldan man in his mid to late 50’s. His well kept raven-black hair is streaked with the gray of old age and the stress of ruling.

You look besides you and see another, the person that was told to wait along side you while the Lord Mayor was readying himself. You didn’t think until now that it would be important to speak to one another. “Surely what the Lord Mayor wants to meet about doesn’t involve him.” you thought incorrectly.

Clearing his throat; “What do you two say to this great honor? This privilege of exploring the greenbelt?”

Hey guys, Sunday night and yesterday was a rough day for my house. Either we all got food poisoning or we all got a stomach bug... either way, no fun. I am getting the first post going now. Sorry for the delay.

As Darivan said, you’d only gain a bonus from one of the classes.

Because today is Easter I have family coming in. I wanted to get things off the ground before today, but that didn’t happen. I will open things up tomorrow AM in the gameplay tab. You guys have a great day!

Oh, one more thing I forgot to add with character creation is favorite class option. You can do HP, skill, or the racial option.

Yes, I will allow your family to have sent you a servant, guard, the cart, and two light horses.

Gold! Yes, you will take the max of whichever class offers you the highest gold.

@Darivan Orlovsky I will take a look once I get home. I know the trait talks about a family member, but what if it was more because of your relationship with Sir Aethelred Waincroft? I believe that would be a great option instead of a family member. What do you think?

@Fallen_Mage how has the creation process been coming?

I already have the Ultimate Campaign. It is a great book and I really like their expanded kingdom building rules and the larger variety of building options. I look forward to exploring those mechanics.

I took a look at a preview of the Guide to the River Kingdoms, that seems like a book I need to get, thanks for the tip off on that one.

What would be a great book to pickup on Brevoy and the cities and noble houses within?

Hello all!

I am gearing up to start Kingmaker for the first time and I wanted to know what books are important for the AP?
I am wanting to grow my knowledge of Brevoy and the River Kingdoms but wasn’t sure what books to get.

What books have/do you use for your running of the Kingmaker AP?

Thanks!

@Daedalus I took a look at those archetypes. Oath of Vengeance is cool, but I think that flavor wise Silver Champion fits what your original submission was striving for. It isn’t as “strong” as Oath of Vengeance, but it would be significantly cooler. There will be lots of opportunities for you guys to become powerful, so I would say go for what would add more flavor.

I don’t know enough about the Vigilante class to know how big of an impact the Teisatu archetype would be. Because it gives you those Eastern type of weaponry, are you going to be using those as a starting weapon? Being from a town near the Grozny Forest in Brevoy, how did your character become trained in those strange and unique weapons? Sir Aethelred Waincroft was the person who trained you and brought you up, was he skilled in these weapons? I am not saying no to this archetype, I am just wanting to make sure you tie it into who the character is and where he came from.

@Fallen_Mage I would prefer to not allow that trait. But, if you do come from a wealthy family it would make sense that they would send you with a personal servant, a bodyguard, horses and a wagon. I would be ok with them sending those along with you as you make your way to Restov to meet the Lord Mayor, but they would be NPCs. They could hypothetically be with you the whole time. I will level them up here and there, but it will be nowhere near as good as the Leadership feat would be unless you eventually took the feat. Below are what I would say that they would start as.

Bodyguard
Porter or Page

Another way to get a horse would be to choose the Pioneer trait from the Kingmaker Player’s Guide. If you were to do this route I would say that it was combat trained. The horses that your family would send you would just be work horses that are trained at road travel and pulling a wagon.

I just came across these Kingmaker traits. I didn’t realize they had campaign specific traits this far back. I would love to see you guys pick one from here, but it is not a requirement.

Ouch, yeah we will stick with 25 point buy. You guys will want some beef in your stats.

A few things that I want everyone to keep in consideration. I am ok with people sacking stats as they see fit, but please keep in mind what that means in the grand scheme of the game. I love the charts found here that gives a description of what each of the ability scores mean.

Another thing that I am ok with is people playing older characters. Keep in mind the aging effects that you can find here for each of the races.

You’re welcome! I am looking forward to running this AP. I have played it, but never ran it. Which brings me to a question that I didn’t think about previously. Have either of you two played or ran the Kingmaker AP?

Not a problem, we have time for character creation and fleshing them out. Also, we can always roll for the fun of it and if it turns out ok we can keep them as is.

Congrats Daedalus & Fallen_Mage!! I am really excited to work together in creating these characters and telling their story in the Stolen Lands!!

This link is a great link on how to create a Gestalt character if you have never made one, or even in need of a little reminder.

This link is just a great link I came across that is full of PBP wisdom. Not that anyone here needs it, but I personally enjoy reading through it to help keep me focused on what it is that we are doing, telling a story together.

Onto character creation time!!

Because it is only two of you, we are going to do 25 point buy.
I will give you guys the option to roll for stats if you would like, 3d6 reroll 1’s once. It is less certain but could prove to be fun.
The classes you both selected are great classes, all I ask is to let me know if there are any archetypes you would like to use. This also goes for racial archetypes.

We will be doing 2 background skills, but make sure they are tied into your background and make sense.
We will also be doing 2 traits, but again make sure they are tied into your background.
These above two things are to help flesh out who your character is, not to optimize them.

Max HP and Max Gold for 1st level.

I think that is good for now. Let’s get those characters going and have some fun!!

Hello all. Sorry for the minor delay. A doctors appointment for the wife turned into spending the lunch at the park with her and our little one.

This was a hard decision because there are great choices. But the two that I am going to go with will be Daedalus/Darivan Orlovsky and his Paladin of Apsu/Vigilante, and Fallen_Mage with his Sorcerer/Ranger.

Thank you all for your submissions, they were all great!

@Daedalus & Fallen_Mage head on over to the discussion page for character creation.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

No more submissions will be accepted beyond this post. I will be spending time today looking over all of your submissions and let you all know today or tomorrow morning the cast for this adventure. Thanks!

Yeah. I was doing some thinking/looking, and I would say that it would replace the base class that it would normally come out of. So a fighter/wizard could go into Fighter/Eldritch Knight because it continues the arcane spellcasting.

One thing that would be crazy would be a wizard/cleric going into Mystic Theurge... technically by the book they could go into it at 4th level and do Mystic Theurge/Anything else... I don’t think I would allow it, but it is just fun to think of wonky things you can do with things like Gestalt.

@Magicblast we must have posted at the same time because I am just seeing your post. I wouldn’t have an issue with a plant animal companion. I would need to do more looking to see if there are other ways, but I know that the Elven Treesinger Druid is one way you can get a plant animal companion. I will look for others, but if you know of one just shoot me the link and I wouldn’t have an issue with it as long as it Paizo material.

Also as a side-note. In my weekly playgroup I have played that kind of druid before and it was a blast, this setting would also be great for it.

@The Emerald Duke you are good to go. I mainly put in that time line for new submissions. Everyone else has given me backgrounds and concepts that I have a good idea of where we could go. Once picked everyone will still have time to fully get things taken care of before we go.

@The Emerald Duke & Darivan Orlovsky I am a DM that mainly focuses on the background and not exactly the party composition. I believe that if the players want to play a class, they should be allowed to and not be restrained because of “party balance.” So I wouldn’t not pick a player because I already have chosen my “Arcane Caster.”

@Lord Christian D’Elagante I see you talked about Prestige Classes. I am not 100% sure how I would do this because of the Gestalt nature of the game. I would need to think on this before allowing it. Don’t let this sway your background/concept.

I believe that I will be cutting off the deadline tonight by midnight. If you have any last minute tweaks and changes today is the day. I will choose two characters based on background and how I can tie them in. Once chosen we will jump over to the discussion page and start building characters. Looking to be able to launch by this weekend.

Exciting stuff!

@Darvian Orlovsky exactly! It even showed up in the recent threads with my profile next to it. Oh well, I’ll just be sure to type things up in a word document and then copy/paste it over.

@Arden Kain Brandt looks good! You mentioned you were thinking about doing a Cavalier or a Wizard, since its Gestalt you could always do those two as your combo! That would be a combo that covers a wide array of situations.

@everyone I won’t be around much today but keep the post coming. They are all creative and have ways for me to pull them in and shape the AP around them.

@Nikolaus de’Shade you can submit them together if you’d like. I hadn’t thought about two people putting in a submission together.

I will be looking over what everyone has submitted so far tonight. There have been some intriguing characters that have been submitted.

Oh ok, I think I understand. Because there will be only 2 PCs I will probably go higher point buy than lower. But I don’t want that to be the focus. I would rather focus on the character concept and then build the mechanics after the concept is selected for the game.

I think I will make my selection in the next few days. I will say a deadline for submitting concepts will be Tuesday morning. Then we can jump over to the discussion page and get the mechanical side going. And hopefully a start by the weekend.

Well I had made a post but I am not sure where it went to. It could be possible that I hit cancel, how unfortunate.

@Daedalus that all sounds good. I completely understand the low skills. I love characters with tons of skills.

@The Emerald Duke those are both great questions.

Vigilante question: I think it all depends on the concept. Off the top of my head the two examples that stand out are Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde or a Super Hero.

With Dr J/Mr H the two classes could be the different identities. Depending on which one you are in is the one you could heavily lean on. With the Super Hero approach, one identity would be their mild mannered “Normal Joe” personality, and when they are in vigilante mode it could be that is when the classes shine.

All in all I think that it comes down to what the person wants to do with the concept.

As far as my DM style... thats a good question. I don’t think it is something I have ever thought about. My general thought is that the goal of everyone at the table is to collectively tell a story together, DM & PCs alike. As a DM my role is to help facilitate that by using the rules as a guideline. I don’t believe that the rules are gospel, because there are times when a player wants to do something cool that fits the scene and character but is hindered by the rules. And that is just no fun.

I hope that gives you an idea of my DM style.

@Ouachitonian I don’t think I am sure what you mean by mad concept... All I can say is that I will help the players I pick achieve the goals of their characters. I have never met a concept that couldn’t work because of point buy.

@Red Heat why only 2 PCs? Great question. I mainly picked two because it will allow me to heavily focus on their characters and the background. I understand that people and games come and go, but my hope is that with the two who are picked being the stars, they it would become a game they really enjoy and don’t want to put down.

Hope that helps!

@Daedalus that sounds great! I do like where/why he was going down the Vigilante road. I completely understand not going down Paladin/Sorcerer because you have one already AND the low skill options for those two.

@The Emerald Duke both good questions.

I really think it depended on the concept:
- It could be a Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde were it would almost completely split the two classes depending on if you are in your public persona or vigilante identity.
- It could also be where your public persona is a “Normal Joe” but when you are in your vigilante identity it would be both classes.

To be honest, my experience with the class is very little. I have never played one or ran a game with one. I did have a friend play one in a short lived game in my gaming group, but it was only a few sessions and didn’t really have a chance to fully explore it.

My DM style... I don’t know exactly how to answer this one. I believe that everyones goal at the table is to aid in telling a story. As a DM I believe that I am here to use the rules as guidelines in achieving that goal, but those rules are only guidelines. If people think outside of the box I shouldn’t limit that because its not in the rules. Because of this I do like “cut scenes” in the game to help tell the story. I know not everyone enjoys this because it can take away the players ability to do what their character can do. But those are also only to be used to help enhance the drama.

I am not sure if that is what you were asking, but I hope it give a clearer picture.

I have some questions on stats. Are you looking for point buy? If so, how many? If rolling, any special rules for said rolls?

Right now I am looking for the character concept, goals, background, etc. I only gave the race/class/gestalt info so that people would have that in mind when giving me the character. I will more than likely do a point buy, unless the two I select want to get crazy and do rolls for it.

Oh, one last question, can you give me a quick refresher on Gestalt Character building? I don't build them much.

This link is a great explanation on gestalt.

Hope that helps @Fallen_Mage.

Daedalus:
I really enjoyed your background. I had ideas jumping out at me that I could use to tie into the world.

I looked over the Vigilante class and it seems like a perfect fit for your concept. Something that instantly jumped out class wise would be the Dragon Disciple. Would this be something that you would be interested in eventually? Or even with Gestalt you could do Paladin/Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer to have that Dragon Disciple vibe without taking the class.

Whatever you do, I really enjoyed your background and will be happy whatever class choices you make.

@GM Aest sounds good, let me take a look at the mindchemist, but all should be well. Looking forward to the characters story.

@Ouachitonian you mentioned you wanted to hear more. What specifically are you wanting more info on?

Good morning, good afternoon, or good evening!

I have been a lurker for sometime on the boards and have decided to make an account and jump into some PBP fun. Hopefully being new doesn’t run people off.

The title says it all, I am looking for 2 player characters to run through the Kingmaker AP.

There are two things that I am looking for in your characters:
Goals: Besides the fact you received a charter from the Lord Mayor of Restov, why would you character want to explore these lands? What is it they hope to achieve from being the explorers of these lands?

Background: Because this specific AP is an open world it allows the freedom to add in as much homebrew as a DM would like, even to fully customize the story around the PCs. The more you give me, the more I can give you.

Right now I am not going to go into a lot on the build side of things, but I am looking at Gestalt. Core Races, but pass others by me first. All Classes. Paizo products only. Any alignment that fits the concept, but you are being sent to work WITH someone else.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have, I will answer to the best of my ability.

Lets see those character concepts!

EDIT: If you would like to play a non-Core race, don’t hesitate asking. If it is realistic and you have a fun concept and background that could go along with it, asking never hurts.

I would like to enter. May 6th is ample time to come up with something creative.

Dice Rolls:

4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 4, 3) = 12 -1 = 11
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 2, 3) = 15 -2 = 13
4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 5, 5) = 15 -2 = 13
4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 6, 6) = 19 -3 = 16
4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 3, 5) = 17 -3 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 6, 6) = 21 -3 = 18

11, 13, 13, 14, 16, 18. Not bad I must say. I will come up with something.

This seems interesting. I would be interested in Dimli the Dwarf. Looks like nobody has spoken for him yet. I would be interested in finding out what your guidelines are for character creation. Thanks
