Female Human Level 1 Time Thief
In other news, if we continue gaming, we should probably kill the discussion page and just focus all our energy on the story. All topics related to questions about the game should be OOC in the game thread. That's my 2 cents. We argue too much here and waste valuable energy. Just play the damn game people :)

Oh, I'm still here. I've been eating popcorn watching everyone bicker and fight. I'm perfectly happy with how things are going aside from that, so I have nothing to contribute to the arguments. Once the story gets moving back in the gameplay thread, I'll be there posting as normal. P.S - Happy Anniversary!
Female Human Level 1 Time Thief
Everything was moving so fast, all the possible fragments and shards of time and space and reality exploded like a kaleidoscope of colors around Corinne. In some of them, Arielle was safe and smiling as the two new companions stood near, slapping each other on the back, while in others the young orphan girl died a painful death, either falling to her death, or dying at the end of a murderous strike. Still, there was one other possible future. Corinne saw it, she had to try. Racing through the maze like trees and tumbling brambles, Corinne charges as fast as she can towards Arielle, shouting the entire time. "Arie, do it! Use your power!" Corinne had seen her young sister do amazing things and she never understood it. The child would be an astonishing woman when she came of age; IF she lived that long. "Save Bubbles! Make the bad men stop!"

With lightning speed Corinne hefts the abandoned crossbow she had reloaded moments ago, taking aim along the wooden shaft of the bolt that sat in its carriage. There was no slowing of time, or fragmental shard of reality this time, just the desperation of a young woman trying to save someone she loved. TWAACK! The arrow shot from its resting place like a bolt of lightning, racing towards its inevitable destiny. Corinne is firing at the man nearest here, who if I remember correctly, is the kidnapper holding Arielle? A final shot of desperation!: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 The crossbow is MUCH heavier than the one Corinne is used to wielding and it shows in her shot. The bolt veers dramatically left and down, sinking deep into the rich soil, vanishing into a rising patch of tall grass. Corinne's eyes go wide with grief and pain and self loathing...

SKYRIM co-op would be so amazing and fun. It would be a lot like diablo, where you team up with friends and sack dungeons and kill monsters. You can then translate any loot you get to your single player experience. I'd love to see something like that happen in the future. World of Warcraft and standard MMO's are just too time consuming, but with Skyrim, I'm able to play when I want and I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything or neglecting the game or life by playing/not playing. I'm playing a Dark Elf Archery assassin with conjuring. She uses the summoned bow and kicks the crap outta people. Plus, I'm really good with the bow. I've pulled off some stunning shots I have to say! She just signed on with the Dark Brotherhood, who I plan to take all their missions and quests, and then (as is fitting the theme of an assasin), I'll execute each of them when they no longer server my purposes ;) Re: Game I like the idea of us being able to assign RC points to your characters. Good thinking.

Quote: He had her left arm pinned fairly securely under his right arm, and she couldn't reach the little knife Corie had given her. Sometime in the past... "Now, Arie, I want you to hold onto this. I got it just for you." Corinne said, presenting a tiny sharpened knife to Arielle. The young orphan took the blade nervously, astonished to be holding such a dangerous thing in her young hands. "This is not a toy, you understand me? If someone ever tries to hurt you or harm you, you poke them with the pointy end, ok?" Arielle could only nod her head, her eyes going wide with shock and wonder. Corinne wished the world was different. She wished that she didn't live in a place where young girls had to carry knives. But she had carried a blade very similar to this when she was Arielle's age, and she had used it too. "Ok, now it's time for bed. Here, take Bubbles and his sword and get some rest. I'll be back soon." Corinne leaned over then, giving her young adopted sister a gentle kiss on the forehead.

It's especially because I'm weaponless that I'm lagging behind. The idea was to sprint close to within range of the kidnapper and then tackle him from behind. I had not accounted for the fact that they would move as well. Still, I'm fine with how things are and thanks for the suggestions. I need them :)

"Get him, Bubbles! Make the mean man stop!" Arielle shouts, squiggling in the grasp of the iron armed kidnapper. "Get your hands off my sister!" Corinne howls, leaping forward in an all out sprint. What did these men want with Arielle anyway? Why was a young orphan girl so important? None of that mattered now. All that was important was getting her back before it was too late. Corinne will move diagonal one space to the east and then forward 5 squares (if that works). Since she's not in range, that will end her round.

Final word from me about the trees. I agree with Stavo: Quote: When you give a DC to the tree, I feel you're basically telling me how dense it's branches are. That being said, don't feel ganged up on, Pinvendor. I just see his logic. Anyhow, onwards! Can you relink me the map that has my current location? I wasn't able to find the post where you linked it. I know it's in here somewhere. Also, I need to know the rules on how a grapple works. If I were to say charge up behind someone and tackle the back of their legs for example.

I'm fine with whatever. Just adding my 2 cents. I'll play in whatever way we ultimately desire. And I'll agree with ODV. Just rewind things a bit, add the cover to the difficulty modifier and do a re-roll for fairness. In honesty I don't think the topic of trees needed to take up this much of our time. It could have gone like this: Pinvendor: And you're shot! It hurts. He nails you in the treeline. Stavo: Quick question. I'd think I'd be harder to hit because of the cover of the trees themselves. Can we add that to his difficulty to hit me? And if so, is the result the same. Pinvendor: Ok, good point. Let me consider that. GM makes his ruling, players accept, on we go. No reason to get all emotional :) Game on!

Is it possible to play Pathfinder in a more descriptive way, also? Or do the rules DEMAND that everything be grid related? I could quickly see our story becoming: "Corinne to node D7, strike. Villain 02 makes his saving throw, and moves to node E2..." It seems to me that's pretty limiting to our vast, and I mean VAST, roleplaying skills. We're some of the most creative and talented roleplayers in history, and I mean it. I've listened to other games at Gamers Inn and those guys have nothing on what I've seen you all come up with. I'd suggest a more descriptive style of play, with less worry about map placement. Use challenge rolls against our stats like DEX and Acrobatics and that kind of thing to determine if what we're doing/describing works or fails, and be less concerned about distance and facing and all that. BUT, I will also say that I know next to nothing about these rules so it may likely be hard/impossible to do what I'm suggesting. Since this first combat is all about tweaking our experience of the game, I'm offering my advice. I just find the current system a bit limiting to our epic skills.

Descriptive confusion is something that comes up a lot through PBP interaction. I noticed that A LOT when I was running our Warhammer game. To me things made perfect sense because they were in my head, but to the players things could get muddled or confused because of the medium in which we are using. If this were a live action game, someone could quickly bounce a question off the GM, he could explain, and the game would go on. With play by post, that's harder. Things are more written in stone as they happen and it's hard to describe everything.

Re: Rules Let's keep in mind this whole combat is to learn the rules and tweak them. That being said, I kind of agree with Stavo, unless you did factor in the cover of the trees to the overall difficulty of hitting him with the aimed shot. I'm definitely used to a more descriptive style of fighting/playing, letting quick roles determine if we catch up or fall behind etc. But I'm enjoying the change of pace. We wanted something very different than Warhammer and Pinvendor is doing a great job of bringing that to life.

If I read things right, it's currently Ragnar's turn to act? I'm having fun so far. I don't envy the work it takes to track everything on a map and upload it, though you seem pretty proficient at doing it. I'm definitely aware that Corinne will not amount for much in combat, though I suspected as much. I'm hoping the roleplay, skill check portion of the game will augment her usefulness. Still, it's also possible I'll find some cool dagger that does more than 1d4 damage too.
Female Human Level 1 Time Thief
Leaping backwards and to the side, Corinne avoids the toppling body of Refold as he lands on the cool wet grass, his hands outstretched like dirty claws. His half severed head rolls to the side, dead eyes open, his final glance a look at Corinne's smiling face as she smirks in satisfaction. But things are moving fast and time is short. Seeing the other child napper moving against her would be rescuer, Corinne is quick to act. With a steady aim and a quick crack of her wrist, she sends her weighted dagger flying end over end towards the angry ruffian. Thrown Dagger Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20 Dagger Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1 I'm rolling really well, except when it comes to damage! Still, I suppose I can't expect much for a 1d4 light weapon, hah. Also, I know you can move/attack in a round, but not sure if you can attack then move. But if you can, Corinne would like to throw the dagger and then give pursuit on the kidnapper who has Arielle, moving as many squares as possible. I'll let you handle the actual positioning.
Female Human Level 1 Time Thief
Refold and Corinne lock eyes for a long moment, the mans look of anger quickly turning to fear as he sees the two imposing figures bearing down on him. "Time is running out for you, child napper!" Corinne spits, a strange look of knowing bemusement crossing her childish face. In her eyes, Refold thinks he can see his own death.
