I think we'll avoid the south for now but I'll want to head to the mine and find out what's going on there. I'll draw up the recruits and take them for an extended training to that area." The chief nods at your plans and looks over the map, getting a better idea how people use these things called maps all the time. "Avoid south sounds smart. Big beasts seen there." he states simply to Jameson "Sootscale strong, not that strong."

He shrugs at the mention of what an heir is. "Only strongest becomes new chief. The next chief, will have to kill me even if he is my own blood." he says this in such a simple way. It's clear the society they lead is more evil, however they are bound by traditions and laws. He vowed to help you and won't ever break that vow.Looking over the map he narrows his eyes when scanning the areas.
He continues his scan of the map, pointing out the areas you've been and how there have been a few scavengers there, picking off the dead the party left behind. He then points to the gunpowder mine to the north.

Chief Sootscale looks confused about the idea of heirs, but he just shrugs. "I have three mates. I need no more." he shakes his head and looks up to the group "What is an heir?"Sootscale nods Jameson's discussion of co-operating with him to form their soldiers and protect the land.
Telias Markan wrote: "Hells, why raid caravans when they can rob yer house." Telias grumbles. "This whole civilization thing is a bad idear." The chief glares at Telias for a moment. "I obey the law of the land, so do my tribe." he then turns back to Carina and smiles. "As I said, we know the lands well. If you accept us, we see you as tribe and will protect you and these lands. It is hard to speak like you big people, but I will get better." at this he turn turns back to Telias "Tartuk was evil gnome, turned kobold. Are all gnomes cowards and killers?" Chief Sootscale clearly doesn't want to start a fight with this alliance, but the whole idea of this prejudice he doesn't quite understand as the only kobolds he knows of are his tribe.few times I think i've given him too many big words to say. He's more intelligent than basic kobolds, however his main stat is dex. Good to know if you take him on as a leadership role. There are 11 spots afterall, 12 if you include the ruler's spouse who's Cha bonus addes to the ruler's role.

Sootscale spits on the body. "Do what you want. We don't care." he grits his teeth and looks back at his club, still stained from the blood of yesterday when he caved in Tartuk's skull. Also forgot to mention. Tartuk also did the cursed god thing because he hoped their souls would end up merely floating in the etherial plane with no deity to claim them, stuck in endless purgatory for following a false deity. The fact he wanted to die and was trapped in a body he absolutely hated then there's a good chance he wouldn't like to be ressurected. Atleast that's the sense you get from the jurnal as he wished to take his own life.

Oh I forgot to mention. This also counts as dealing with the sootscales as they have no intention on being as vicious in their attacks anymore as they were and you've even solidified a relationship. You won't get the reward yet due to not yet returning to Olegs and them not seeing a change, however you have all leveled :) Sootscale nods as this makes sense to him and then he gives a smile.
This will be something to consider when kingdom building, but you can only open mines when you build roads that lead to them and mines of any type which give a boost to economy.

Again, a diplomacy check will get him to open up as well as explaining how trade would be more profitable. They're simple humanoids who like shiney precious things. He considers your suggestion but shakes his head.
Tartuk had on his body a wand of magic missile (CL 3rd, 28 charges), masterwork cold iron sickle, bravers of armour +1, cloak of resistance +1 and what appears to be a jurnal, written in Undercommon. Sootscale nods and looks into the one of the bags and produces a brass wedding ring, handing it over to the group. He pauses to consider what Ganit says and then nods.
Working on xp, give me a sec. Edit: Wow, you guys are only 34 xp from leveling. Just need to map out the areas you've been to and you'll level :)
With Ganit's arrow his aim his true and once it hits nothing, becoming invisable for a second, but then Tartuk re-appears, bleeding out and then falls to his knees, spitting out blood and grinning as he looks at the group.
Sootscale smiles widely, walking over and then taking his club in two hands, lifting up high and then crashing it down on Tartuk's head, screaming triumph to the tribe. With that he turns to the group.
James's blade smacked the kobold hard in the face with the flat side of the blade, knocking it off it's feet and to the ground unconcious. The cheif steps forward, striking out at Tartuk with his club, but he don't manage to hit him as he moved out of the way of the blow. attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 Sootscale is standing where the kobold north of Jameson was at U24
Sootscale nods as Carina explains how bloodshed is not perfered, but they are willing to get rid of those who cause harm to the land.
Draconic:
"We are a strong tribe and shall fight off any danger, but if we do run into danger I shall tell you." for a moment when you say settlers he doesn't seem to understand right away and searches his mind for the meaning. "You want to rule like the other big people? You want us to keep living here? I am honored and will do all I can for my tribe to grow strong with you." Taking the statue he looks to Ganit.
You wish to join him in killing Tartuk?
He contemplates what Carina says for a few moments, rising off a stone throne and nods.
With your decision you make your way through the ex-mine. Unlike the mite lair, the walls here are big and high enough for medium creatures to walk around with ease. You pass a pair of alcoves where two kobolds were hiding, but they put their weapons at ease when they see that Mikmek is leading you through. You are then lead through a area with a stone alter, covered in dried blood. Mikmek shutters as he looks at the alter and quickens the pace through into a large cave with a warm feeling air, thick with a reptilian stink mixed with smoke and burnt meat. Numerous beds of furs lie scattered throughout the room amid smoldering cookfires while to the south a ten-foot-wide alcove contains a large mount of furs framed by dozens of sticks on which are mounted skulls of many birds and small animals all smeared with ash. There are a mere ten kobolds in this room, small compared to other tribes and a mighty-looking kobold decorated in many different charms and trinkets. He rises him his throne as he sees the group and Mikmek explains the situation to him, which he smirks and looks at the group.
