![]() It's quite simple. I don't like losing control of my character. Period. Granted that's just my personal foible, but it's one I think I'm entitled to. And if I can't even communicate that without "offending" somebody, then perhaps I need to find another game and let the GM play what used to be my character any way he sees fit. ![]()

![]() Chezarion replies, "What's up is that he's jealous of my new necklace. But it won't leave me. I guess Gromff wants to attract a woman or something." "What's also up is we aren't making very good time with you carrying Walker. I said that a cart would be no good because we can't take it off the road. But there should be enough farms in the area we ought to be able to buy another mule or a horse to use as a pack animal. Walker should be able to just sit on it while we led it at a walking pace. That way it could go off road pretty much anywhere we could and we wouldn't be slowed down. We also wouldn't have to worry about you getting too tired out from carrying Walker to be able to fight well at the end of a long day. Indeed, there's an excellent chance I could negotiate a real good deal for that." ![]()

![]() It was the sort of thing that had to be tried. Could be worse, we could have an ineffective healer as opposed to an ineffective scout. Tessandriel can cover the bases pretty well unless we have to deal with traps. In which case we are humped, because my current Perception skill modifier is only +1/+2 versus traps. ![]()

![]() That option was potentially on the table. If Gromff did not achieve surprise/win initiative then Chezarion might have noticed some sort of imminent attack and acted accordingly. As pointed out previously Chezarion's total Perception skill modifier is still positive. However, for right now, we'll go with what's been stated. After all is said and done Chezarion laughs in Gromff's face. He says, "See there you stupid rock headed dwarf! You can't take my Precious from me. It doesn't want to go. It thinks you're too ugly for it." Which bizarre as it sounds is actually a favorable outcome. Now that Chezarion knows the necklace can't be taken from him he has no reason to fear that it might be. Otherwise he probably would have left the group and tried to keep his date with Karaxa. I would suggest that somebody really go through that imp's notebook with a fine tooth comb as there may be some mention in there of how to deal with this thing. As things stand Chezarion can at least travel and fight even if he can't scout for squat. And no, this is not my idea of a "fun" role playing experience. ![]()

![]() It's still all academic because (1) the GM hasn't told us how he wants this handled and (2) unless Gromff either gets surprise or wins initiative Chezarion will draw a one handed weapon which can be used in a grapple. Per Pathfinder rules both his morningstar and his longsword would qualify. Also, if one could effectively execute a "remove curse" by performing a "steal" then there would be little need for a 3rd to 4th level spell. ![]()

![]() But you aren't making an armed attack, you're making an unarmed attack. Which means that it's up to the GM. I'd have to spend more time going through the rules, but I know of at least one other GM on this board who will permit unarmed characters to make AOO's against unarmed attacks. Regardless, even granting you an initial grapple, your success is not automatic by any stretch of the imagination. All of which begs the question of whether or not it is actually physically possible to remove the necklace in any event. Tolkien's "One Ring" wasn't "cursed" like a DnD item. ![]()
Male Elf Rogue 2|AC 16, Touch 14, FF 13| HP 17/17 | Fort +1, Ref +6, Will +0 | Init +3 |Senses Low light vision | Perception +7/+8 vs traps
![]() I would be very pleasantly surprised if the GM would let that work. As it is, we're going to have to start making all the rolls needed for that combat. Part of the problem is that while it is true that Chezarion is distracted to the point that he's got a significant negative modifier to his perception checks, his total perception check modifier is still positive. A dwarf with no real stealth ability who has already established himself as something of a "threat" is by no means guaranteed to be able to sneak up on Chezarion. I'll let the GM weigh in on how he wants this handled, but at a minimum Gromff is going to have to succeed on an opposed Stealth check vs Chezarion's Perception to get the benefit of a surprise round or we're simply going to have to roll initiative and take it from there. ![]()

Tessandriel probably wouldn't be easily affected because she's my half sister. But just about any other woman would be putty in my hands. Gromff is always going on about how we need to save these people. Well, here's a chance. We bring Karaxa over to our side and their entire garrison would be weakened and compromised." You're actually getting a pretty good deal. But there's something you need to know." Chezarion lowers his voice a little and continues talking. "We had a little bit of trouble in town. While we were there selling our produce, some of the guards decided that what we really needed to be selling were the girls." Chezarion nods in the direction of Catcher and Arsensia. He continues on, "The discussion got a little bit heated I guess you could say. It turned out to be easier for us to leave in a hurry than to get the guards to take 'no' for an answer. The potential problem you could have is that if you take this cart and this mule back through the same gate we almost ran some of them over leaving not more than two hours ago they may give you grief just because. But if you were to go back to your farm and wait a couple of weeks or so then things should probably be ok." Bluff check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22 Includes bonus from necklace. ![]()

![]() Chezarion says, "The problem is that regardless of how much the guard we spared might seem to have liked us, the only safe bet is that he will tell them more than we would like him to when they question him. So we can assume they will be looking for a bunch of farmers with a cart, a mule and an elf and a half elf. Asking questions of the gate guards would make it easy for them to figure out which gate we left through. Then those imps can fly faster down the road than the cart can travel and we would never know we had been spotted." "It's going to be a hassle, but I can't see keeping the cart and the mule any longer than sundown. If Desna smiles on us hopefully we can sell them off before then. ![]() Chezarion breathes a sigh of relief when he is let out of the box. He will change into his cold weather outfit, with his leather armor on over that. His standard travelers outfit will be relegated to his own pack. As far as the peasant garb he was wearing he simply leaves that in the wagon. He listens to Gromff and Roland discuss things and then says: "If no one objects I'd like to have the masterwork longsword. I agree that we probably should either sell or abandon the cart and the mule before too much longer. If we abandon them we should just let the mule go free and it will likely make its way back to the farmer we bought him from. Also, if we abandon the wagon I'm going to want to borrow some stuff to write with so I can leave a note on it. But I would prefer to sell it if we can get a reasonable price for it." "Heading back to the cave and waiting for Meldara is probably a good short range plan. The biggest problem is going to be Walker's ability to move on foot through rugged terrain. ![]() My take is that the Breastplate and probably Tylz's backpack should go in the slor skin pouch. The two swords can get lashed under the wagon with all the other weapons that are going to have to go back under there. Chezarion will let Tessandriel put the magic arrow in her quiver. Chezarion's longsword, throwing darts, bow and quiver are going back under the wagon. As specified earlier, all the bodies including the "friendly" guard in the store room, the door locked and padlocked, keys in the outhouse. See if we can get Gromff to do another channel heal as soon as wagon is far enough from store room and then head out the south gate. ![]()

![]() In my not so humble opinion the problem isn't carrying capacity, it's time. We need to get out of here ASAP. Every extra moment we spend increases the chances that we're going to be nailed here, or at the gate when your illusion wears off in front of the guards. ![]()

![]() Chezarion snags the arrow that Catcher indicated as being magical and leaves the room. He should also have taken out Tylz's backpack, the two masterwork swords (longsword and greatsword) and the Breastplate. Then he will get the bodies dragged inside the room as well as the unconscious guard (assuming Roland knocks him out). Chezarion will then lock the door and the padlock, throw the keys in the outhouse, and stash his weapons back in the cart. ![]()

![]() I don't doubt that there's all kinds of stuff in here we would really like to have. The problem is we don't have time to do a real search. However, we probably could fit the Breastplate in the slor skin bag so I'll grab that too. But unless Catcher detects something magical in there that's probably going to be it. As I see it, the only way we're likely to be able to get the guard out is to smuggle him in the box. Otherwise there would be too many questions to answer if he just tried to walk out the gate with us. Gilgain's stuff would only be in there if they found it, and the last Gilgain knew that was not the case. Besides, we have no idea what we would be looking for. Best bet is just to have Catcher do a sweep with Detect Magic and snag anything magic. Anything else is going to take too much time. ![]()

However, what we could do is take our better melee weapons out from under the wagon and keep them out of sight in the wagon. Then as we head south on Torian road we hang a left and take the wagon right up to the two door guards. We can feign being lost or some such thing. At the right moment we simply pull our weapons out and take the guards as fast as we can. Then we either pick the lock or break the door down, search the place and be on our way as fast as we can. I would suggest that we try to set things up such that Tessandriel and Roland take one guard while Gromff and I take the other. Toss our weapons back out of sight in the wagon when we're through and then try to get out the south gate as if we're just another group of farmers going home."
