Dragon 317 (March 2004) has the article "Using Power Components", harvesting materials for magic items and spells from dead monsters.
Dragon 349 (November 2006) has the article "Poison Making Guide" and the Complete Adventure also contains information on crafting poison.

I have double checked each of these articles and none of them offer any guide to pricing alternative poisons not listed in the table.

As you have mentioned, a good place to start is on page 557-560 of the Pathfinder Core Rulebook, in which they list most of the poisons you'll encounter, and from there you can build off those examples.

I've put in some more time trying to understand the pricing. The problem is no two poisons on that list differ by only one attribute. Except for Giant Wasp Poison and Large Scorpion Venom: a change from 1d2 Dex to 1d2 Str changes the price from 210gp to 200gp. I have not had much luck guessing at a formula for determining the cost of alternative poisons.

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.

I have a Ranger PC in my game that is very keen on crafting poison.

I have allowed him to gather raw materials to use for crafting from the bodies of Venomous animals the party has fought.

I have used Table 12-4 Character Wealth by Level and Table 12-5 Treasure Values per Encounter as a guide to how much raw materials are harvested.

The Ranger has encountered a Venomous Snake (Bestiary page 255) with the special ability: Poison(Ex) Bite -- injury; save Fort DC 13; frequency 1/round for 6 rounds; effect 1d2 Con; cure 1 save. The monster entry does not list a cost for its venom. (Black Adder Venom is close but not exactly the same. And other creatures have poisons that differ from those listed. Pseudodragon, Phase Spider, and Ettercap all come to mind.)

I am looking at Table 16-1 Sample Poisons (Pathfinder Core Rulebook page 559) and there is not a listed cost for every monster in the Bestiary. And I've also found the Costs to be random and lacking in any explanation.

Does anyone have know of a guide for setting the cost of poisons not listed on Table 16-1?

Hi!

I'm running a home brew campaign that includes some future technology. (Like "Expedition to the Barrier Peaks")

I have given the characters some limited use ray guns that can be recharged only at a specific location. Also I've given them a laser site that give +1 (equipment bonus) to hit when attached to ray guns and crossbows.

I'm also allowing a skill check for "Use Tech Device" working like Use Magical Device but using the "Disable Device" skill when activating technology.

Has anyone else added future tech to Pathfinder? Any additional ideas?

Cheers,

Chet.

Hi!

I will be moving from Vancouver, BC, Canada to Perth, WA, Australia. The problem I'm looking to solve is what books to take with me.

I have purchased nearly every D&D source book since 3.5 came out. Bring them all with me would be a little excessive. I plan to lend them all to my brother with the exception of a few that I will bring with me. It is a temporary trip (12 months) which is why I don't plan on shipping all my books with me. And I do expect to get my books back from my brother when I return. But which ones to bring? The 3 core books seem like a given, and I would like to limit myself to 3 other books but I may end up bring as many as 7 others.

I expect I'll be the DM and I am planning on running Rise of the Runelords Adventure Path. I am having Pathfinder delivered directly to Perth. So my Question is which books should I bring with me?

Cheers,

Chet.

Suggestion:

For those that have extra issues remaining in your subscriptions, request that the remaining issues be send as extra copies of the final issue of Dragon and Dungeon magazines.

For those that do not have current subscriptions order as many copies as you can of the final issue of Dragon and Dungeon magazines.

I run into these types of problems with my game as well.

I'm planning a couple of games that force the issue I'm not sure how my players will take it.

One is a Group of Thayans: Red Wizard, Thayan Knight, Slaver, Gladiator.

The other is a group of Bhaal cultists.

Pre-generated characters or Strict character background is the only way I see of doing this.

Hey!

I have a minor problem and I'm hoping to get a large list of possible solutions.

When my group of PC's finished "The Demonskar Legacy" one member of the group was unable to make it to the session, the Ranger. So the Ranger is back in Cauldron. And the main group is about to meet Kaurophon. The rest of the party is Barbarian, Druid, Healer, and Wizard. The wizard has a few levels of Rogue, and the party has a lot of multiclassing.

Of the monsters in "The Demonskar Legacy", Kysmos still lives and the Hag's Lair is untouched so the Spell Weaver skeletons are still there gaurding the bulk of the treasure. (Gaflon lead the party away to get trapped in the mirror before the party could go back for a full search.)

What ideas can you give me for Getting the party together again for the start of "Test of the Smoking Eye"?

Has anyone update the halfling wizard Skaven Umbermead In Flood Season?

My players have already past Flood Season, but the party's wizard is now studying the discovered Spellbook.

I'm right at the end of Flood Season so an Umberhulk and Kuo-Toa and some half-orc fighters would be the first few things.

I expect that I'll adventually run another group through the path so I would be interested in hearing ideas for the earlier adventures too.

The prepainted dnd minis would be the way to go since I'm not wanting to take the time myself to paint. I don't like the random box concept but I guess I could try to find them on ebay.

I've seen the reaper minis they look good, and I may beable to get one or two of my players to paint them for me.

Anyone have any speciffic minis that represent the Key NPCs particularly well? or have worked well for the random monsters?

Chet.

Hi!

I'm running some players through the Shackled City Adventure Path. I'm thinking of getting some minitures to represent the NPCs and monsters.

I currently own zero minitures. I'm using beads and loose change for the NPCs can monsters.

Any suggestions on what to get? The only one I have my eye on so far is this beholder: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/iw12102004Beholder.jpg
