About Charlotte of the Stage
Born to the decedents of both Chelaxian explorers and native Varisians, Charlotte had an interesting upbringing. Her parents were traders, who spent half their time as Varisians, running a nomadic caravan, and half their lives trading in big cities like Kaer Maga and Korvosa. As such, she grew up with an eclectic mix of Varisian and Chellish traditions.
From a young age Charlotte was told that she was the descendent of great traders and diplomats on her mother's side, as well as many famous scholars and holy men on his father's. As she grew up, she was amazed by the stories told to her of her predecessors. As she worked to emulate her ancestors, she began to realize she knew things that she had never learned, and could speak languages she had never heard. It wasn't long before she was casting her first psychic spell. She had somehow learned to access the psychic energies of her ancestors.
She reveled in her newfound abilities, and used them to entertain her caravan whenever possible. She read voraciously on how to increase her abilities, and soon learned how to easily control illusions. It isn't often that one takes to magic with such pure joy as Charlotte did, but the caravan was certainly happy to have her on long trips.
However, it wasn't until the adolescent Psychic spent an extended period of time in Korvosa that she knew what she wanted to do with her life. While expounding with common folk on the many miracles of magic, she found that many Korvosans took a dim outlook on the study of magic, as the Korvosan Magic academy was the source of the city's imp infestation. Charlotte was shocked that one institution could damage the reputation of magic, and put on stage shows to try and sway public opinion.
After a fortnight her parents realized she had found her calling, and gave her their blessing to spread the joy of magic to others. They also bestowed on her a sacred set of tattoos proclaiming her birthright to the stage, and told her of a society where there were a number of talented individuals she could learn from, the Pathfinders.
