Also caps. This is another character from a previous campaign that could be a good fit here, namely because he is a witchguard. I really enjoyed playing him and he had one of my favorite RPG moments; he was scouting ahead of the party when he was ambushed by several kobolds. Outnumbered and outmatched (and not wearing his regular armor due to traveling in the heat) he took several of the kobolds out and eventually forced the one with class levels to run away.
Here is his background, which could be easily reskinned to fit this campaign:
background:
Chantif's entire upbringing was centered on training him to follow in his ancestor's footsteps in the foothills of Arkhym's Teeth as a witchguard. When he was given his first ward at the age of 18, he felt pride and delight.
He and his partner did not have long to learn to work together before their first expedition into Akrhym's teeth. They were ambushed by a party of Orcs and Chantif's ward went down in the fight. Although he managed to slay their attackers, he fell unconscious. When he came to, his partner was dead.
Ashamed of his failure, he did not return home, but instead went to answer Shem's call for heroes, hoping to redeem his name.
Without the GM returning soon, with a convincing explanation for his absence, and an assurance that he will repair the pace, I will probably be dropping out of this game soon.
Chantif steps into position and drives his spear at the big cat.
Crunch:
Notes: I'm never at a computer when I remember I am up for this round. I finally decided to post without looking at the map. I was going to circle around to flank with Rhona, but with get down and Umash standing still my best bet is to try to flank with her from the trees instead. Please move me to flanking position if I'm not there already.
I'll let you roll concealment for me this time
Round 4 action: move to flank with Rhona
Attack big cat
Chantif starts moving into the bushes to circle around the Cougar and Rhona. "Surround it and we can strike together!"
Crunch:
Notes: (None)
Round 3 action: move action to go around cougar/Rhona
ready an attack action when Umash steps into flanking position or shouts for him to attack anyway
Rolls: longspear, attack, flanking:1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 2 = 16 for piercing:1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 30% miss chance, high is good:1d100 ⇒ 52
If the Cougar has Rhona pinned, shouldn't they be sharing the same space? Regardless, can I attack the Cougar from my current space?
Rhona, don't forget your extra HP from the semi-level-up we did.
Alright, I'll move 5' farther with my move action (I only moved 25' before), drop my flail and draw my longspear as I go. With soft cover from Rhona and no flanking that makes my longspear attack against the bigger cat hit AC14 for Longspear, damage:1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Chantif draws his Longspear as he approaches Rhona engaged in melee with the other cat, then he drives the spear over Rhona's shoulder in an attempt to pierce the cat's hide.
Chantif gives the younger cat a smashing blow with his flail as it runs away, then he gives chase. He catches up as it reaches Rhona, then hoists his flail over his head and brings it down hard on the poor cat.
Crunch:
Notes: (None)
Round 2 action: move action to get to cats standard action to attack cats with Heavy Flail
I guess one of us should be a rear guard behind the animals. Umash? Rhona? I'll leave it up to them. I can do it if they prefer, but it makes more sense for me to be the navigator.
"You were a stalwart companion. I... I..." Chantif's tanned face reddens. He opens and closes his mouth a few times but can say no more. I'm sorry I failed you.
"DET! Wake up and reclaim your life! DAMNIT!" Chantif angrily draws another arrow and looses it at the creature. His aim is off, though, and the arrow whistles through the branches.
Sorry I didn't post sooner. Wasn't sure how to react to the situation.
Chantif eyes the creature for a moment, deciding whether to try to shoot past his friend. He nods to himself, mutters a prayer for Det's safety, and lets an arrow fly at the creature.
Other players may differ. My preference on botting policy is, after 24 hours from a post by the GM saying a character or the party is up, A) in combat, a character’s actions are botted, B) out of combat, the character is assumed to go along with the majority of the party that has posted (even if it is only one member).
That 24-hour timer can be paused fir weekends and holidays of course. :2cents:
I like the Paladin/Oracle because once he picks up the Life Link mystery he'll be taking the whole party's wounds to himself without burning any actions (like would be required for channeling or casting Cures) and then healing those wounds from himself with a Swift Action Lay on Hands.
The Shaman has good healing output too, though. No arguments there. In the long run it will just be less efficient on turns where we'd rather see those actions going towards dropping the other team's hitters or casting a critical spell, etc.
I am really sorry. Had 5 days of leave to go house hunting and the house that I stayed at had no internet. They didn't inform me until I arrived. I am back now and hopefully there will be no other such interruptions.
No worries. Stuff comes up. I figured you'd be back--I was just curious if the GM was looking to keep the game moving at a steady pace or not.
Okay, my first preference is the Mason; the Oracle/Paladin build. I like the fluff well enough, I like the crunch, and I also think it has the most to offer the party.
After that would probably be the shaman, based on what he offers the party for healing (although hopefully he'll diversify his portfolio as time goes on).
After that, the Warpriest has awesome saves and will be good in Melee. However, we already have lots of Melee strength and the Inquisitor looks like he offers more out-of-combat skills.
So
Master Mason Jones "River" Hammerson
Nathan Ladamire
Meurig Crowder
Devran ForgeFist
I would probably put Meurig above Nathan, especially if we can get a CLW wand or something for healing between combats.
GM, I copied the crunch from the four submissions we have so far to my phone to read up on. I'll try to give you an update on my thoughts since my previous preference dropped out and we had new applicants after my first look.
I haven't heard anything to indicate otherwise. Who has made a submission so far?
I see
Meurig Crowder (laughmask21)
Devran Forgefist (WabbitHuntr)
Morg "Tinker" Blackflame (Hassan Ahmed) (profile says he is a dwarf... needs to be a human subtype, I believe)
Master Mason Jones "River" Hammerson (Ash..)
Nathan Ladamire (Jing the Bandit)
