Aww! I'm sorry to see the game won't continue, but it was fun while it lasted. I think everyone here did a fantastic job of conveying their characters, and I really enjoyed how you ran the game, Kaavek. Hopefully we'll have another chance to play together sometime.

Good luck with your thesis!

Well it's done. The post is probably way more dramatic than it needed to be, but if there is one thing Cecilia loved, it was being dramatic.

Luckily it looks like the rest of the party has things under control. ;)

Ever since she was a little girl, Cecilia Hawthorne had loved stories.

Stories of courageous dragonslayers, stories of powerful wizards holding back the forces of darkness. Brave heroes, champions of justice, loyal servants of the people. The Diamond League had been her idols, a shining example of what all humans should aspire to be. And when she found out her own father had fought in the war against the Red Hand, Cecilia could only ask herself one question.

If my father can be a great hero, why can't I?

For years she had trained, expanding her knowledge, combat skills, and magic. Not once did Cecilia consider the possibility of failure. She knew she was destined for greatness. She knew that her life would be a grand adventure. The bards would surely be telling tales of her heroics for centuries to come!

And then Brindol had been attacked. Houses were burnt to the ground, innocent people were slaughtered, a horde of monsters descending upon the town. Despite all her skill with a whip Cecilia could not fight them alone. Reality was so very different to the songs and stories. On that day the bard's belief in that grand destiny of hers had wavered.

Despite her doubts Cecilia had fought on. After all, she had a team of trustworthy companions to lead, an evil foe to strike down, and a daring rescue to undertake. And as she battled her way through goblins and undead, the bard's conviction was slowly but surely renewed. Evil had struck a frightful blow, but the forces of good would still prevail. This could still be her story!

But as the desecrated remains of Lord Rivenroar seized her by the throat, Cecilia had a sudden realisation.

Sometimes heroes don't save the day.

CRACK

Sometimes they don't even survive.

SNAP

Sometimes you're just a woman holding a rapier, playing a part you were never meant to play.

THUD

.....

....

...

..

Cecilia was dead before she even hit the ground.

Wow, Lord Rivenroar got some really nice rolls there. :P

So it looks like Cecilia is as dead as they come. I was hoping I could use a Hero Point to have her somehow cheat death, but apparently you need 2 Hero Points to do that.

Still, it is something of a fitting end for the bard. Would anyone mind if I submitted a post detailing her final moments?

While the abomination is busy dodging Rhona's axe, Cecilia attempted to once again drive her rapier into the undead monster's torso

Attack Roll Vs Lord Rivenroar: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

But she failed. It would seem that the twisted corpse was both faster and more agile than it appeared. Jumping back, the bard looked to the dwarf.

"Get behind it, Miss Copperhair!" Cecilia calls out, darting left and right as she tries to keep the monster's attention focused entirely on herself. "We'll skewer this evildoer from both sides!

Nimbly avoiding the rotting fingers of the undead abomination, Cecilia sidesteped and attempted to once again drive her rapier into the corpse.

Attack Roll Vs Lord Rivenroar: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

But she misjudged the distance. The bard's weapon scratching the monster's skin, but failing to damage the flesh beneath it.

As she continued to struggle with her enemy, Cecilia noticed Rhona approaching, shield and waraxe in her hands. "You're just in time, Miss Copperhair!" The bard declared with a smile on her face, either unaware or uncaring for the danger she currently found herself in. "With your help we'll make swift work of this miserable wretch!"

Cecilia doesn't hesitate for a moment. As soon as she sees the undead seated upon the throne, she charges. Rapier in hand, she stabs at the monster.

Attack Roll Vs Lord Rivenroar: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 4 + 2 = 21
Damage Roll: 1d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 1 = 8

Imbuing her blade with magic, the bard drives her rapier into the corpse's chest. Ripping free the weapon, she locks eyes with her enemy.

"We come on behalf of Thurann. To avenge his father, Kartenix, and all the others that you have slain." Cecilia dramatically declares, her words echoing throughout the hall. "I am Cecilia of the Crimson Lash. And you shall fear my blade!"

"We'll do that, Thurann." Cecilia said with conviction, drawing her rapier. "We'll put an end to these monsters and make sure they know it was you who sent us to do it. They'll regret this day. Mark my words."

Cecilia gives the boy a torch as he prepares to depart. When he does finally leave, she follows him without a word to the others. Keeping a fair distance, the bard tries to remain hidden while keeping Thurann's burning torch within her sight. She is more than a little worried that he will immediately turn around and attempt to follow them.

Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

Despite her best efforts, she is fairly certain the boy hears the scuffing of her feet on the stone floor. After a few more rooms she decides that she has seen enough and returns to the others.

"I think he will be alright." Cecilia said, stepping back into the room with her rapier still in hand. "But we should not delay any further. Their leader is still ahead of us, and there is one last prisoner to rescue. Let us do Thurann proud."

She begins walking through the corridor with the pillars, casting another spell of Dancing Lights as she does so. There is a sense of purpose in the bard's movements now. A willingness to do whatever it takes to complete this quest.

This is all based on the assumption that Thurann is actually leaving. Also, just in case it wasn't obvious. There is a small part of Cecilia is enjoying this righteous vengeance thing.

Cecilia briefly entertained the idea of bringing the child along with them, but then shook her head. If he was a little older then maybe she could have justified it. But as things currently stood, it would just be endangering another life.

"Thurann, I commend you for your spirit. But we can't bring you with us." The bard tried to explain. "There could be any number of dangers waiting for us up ahead, and if you got hurt it would be entirely our fault."

Realising that the boy might need more convincing, it was then that Cecilia Hawthorne suddenly had an idea. Some might consider it overly dramatic, but that had never stopped the bard before.

"But perhaps there is something we can do for you." Cecilia said, kneeling down next to Thurann. "What if we were to act in your stead? Consider ourselves your humble servants on this day. If you command it, we shall swiftly seek out the people who did harm to your father, and make them pay for what they have done. We shall strike these villains down in your name. And as they die, we shall tell these cowards that it was Thurann who brought justice down upon them! That it was Thurann who commanded us to bring about their deaths! That it was your will that this deed be done!

Only slightly out of breath after such a fierce declaration, the bard looked the boy in the eyes. Awaiting his response. Had that all sounded too forced? Had she pushed the story too far?

Cecilia allows Zalindra to assist the boy, preferring not to expose herself to the grime covering his small body. The bard chooses to instead focus her attention on what she realises she must now tell the child.

"You've been very brave, Thurann." The bard said, her words soft and gentle. "Once you have had a few moments to rest, we will escort you out of this terrible place. There are a squad of soldiers waiting for you, they'll keep you safe on your way back to Brindol."

Cecilia paused there for a moment, taking a deep breath before she continued. She was not looking forward to this next part. Still, someone had to deliver the news.

"But there is something else you must know. We found your father, Kartenix. I am sorry to say that he... he has fallen. We retrieved his sword, and will make sure that he receives a proper burial. But that is all that can be done for him."

"I am sorry, Thurann."

If the other characters have issues with Cecilia dropping this bombshell on Thurann, then that is fine. The bard is just thinking of how difficult it would be to conceal the truth from him, considering we need to escort the boy past the place where his father died.

I believe all the enemies are dead now (not undead, but dead-dead ^_^)?

Cecilia cracks her crimson whip as she strides into the room. But all the skeletons fall to the arrows and hammers of her companions, collapsing to the floor before she can launch a single attack. Devoid of any challenge, the bard settled for clapping her hands encouragingly.

"Well done everyone!" She calls out, kicking aside a half-broken ribcage. "The servants of Vecna would do well to fear us after such an impressive display of skill, I think."

Walking towards the small boy that Zalindra had been protecting, Cecilia kneeled down next to the former captive.

It's okay, you're safe now." The bard said, speaking in a soothing tone of voice. "My friends and I are here to rescue you. Can you tell us your name? Are you hurt at all?" She notices both the dwarf and the human staring at the door to the east. "Is there someone in that there room?" She whispers, standing near the corner. "If there is, we should certainly investigate."

The bard waits for the moment, wanting to know what the others think before committing to any course of action.

Cecilia took a step back from the door, tapping the side of head as she tried to think. The bard attempted to reconcile what she was seeing with the directions Adronsius had given them. She really should have written it all down.

"I don't think this is the way the remaining prisoners were taken." Cecilia said, instead pointing to the north. "But I remember our good friend dwarf mentioning some stairs to the right..."

Still holding her whip, the bard begins walking towards one of the room's side corridors.

Seeing that the rest of the party seems to be healthy and well (or at least as healthy as one can expect after fighting their way through a room full of goblins) Cecilia uses another charge of the wand on Aelion.

Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

With the elf fully healed, the bard placed the wand back in her pack. Once again pulling out her crimson whip, Cecilia allows the party a moment to examine the treasures taken from the bodies of their fallen foes. Shes uses this time to reapply the Prestidigitation Spell on her clothing, keeping herself cool.

After Zalindra and Dayana have had sufficient time to comb through the small pile of trinkets, Cecilia begins moving towards the doorway that Aelion had been standing next to earlier. Her father's weapon at the ready, she slowly opens the door and peers into the next room.

With their enemies defeated and the darkness banished, Cecilia raised her arms in triumph. This transformed into a gasp of alarm as she sees Morgrym is broken and bleeding on the ground. Pulling out the wand that the witch had given them, the bard ignored the elf's attempts to bandage the wounds. She had never been much good at stemming the flow of blood.

Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

As all of the dwarf's injuries began to mend themselves, Cecilia turned towards the others. She didn't know how many more charges the little crystal baton held, but she assumed it had at least a few more.

"Anyone else here need a little bit of positive energy flowing through their veins?" The bard asked, spinning the wand between her dexterous fingers, feeling much more sprightly now that Morgrym was on the mend. "Perhaps some for those not yet skilled enough to avoid the enemy's arrows and swords?

With so much fighting still taking place amongst the darkness, Cecilia doesn't even try to intervene. Instead she chooses to fill the room with one last bard song, hoping to inspire her allies with a few verses. A ballad that she had once heard sung as a cautionary tale to children.

"Goblins chew and goblins bite.
Goblins cut and goblins fight.
Goblins race and goblins jump.
Goblins slash and goblins bump.
These are the things that goblins do.
So we strike them down before they hurt you."

The words were simple, but enough to carry the last of the bard's magic to the ears of her companions. She just hoped it would make a difference.

Standard Action: Begin Bardic Performance (Inspire Courage). Everyone within 30 feet gains +1 to Attack and Damage Rolls, and +1 against Charm and Fear Effects.

As the darkness slowly surrounded her, Cecilia began to look around uncertainly. She could perceive the battle taking place ahead of her, having just few moments ago heard a grunt of pain from a goblin, closely followed by the clash of steel and a loud thump as a body hit the floor. The bard hesitated to strike blindly into a fight, but she felt that she had little choice.

Trying to line herself up correctly, Cecilia called out a warning. "Anyone in front of me had better duck now!" And with those words she cracked her crimson whip, attempting to strike the goblin she had heard just a few seconds ago.

Disarm Attempt Vs Hobgoblin CMD 15: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

But despite her best efforts, Cecilia failed to strike her foe. At least she was fairly certain that she had not hit one of her allies by mistake. That would have been truly embarrassing.

As darkness engulfed almost half of the room, Cecilia could only frown. She assumed the dwarves could see in the dark, but the humans and elves certainly couldn't.

With a few words and gestures the bard conjured up some light, and then immediately sent it into the all encompassing darkness. Unfortunately the magic did not work as she had imagined. Cecilia was surprised to find that the goblin's spell was apparently more powerful than her own, the Aura of Darkness swallowing up her Dancing Lights like they had never even existed.

Eager to strike back, Cecilia advanced forward, whip still in hand.

The suddenness of Zalindra's attack caught Cecilia by surprise just like their enemies. Still, it only took the bard a moment to follow up, brandishing her crimson whip as she began to slowly advance on the goblins.

"Followers of Sinruth, this is your one and only warning. Surrender to us now or face our combined might!"

Yes. Cecilia thought, a satisfied smile upon her face as she approached That line had contained just the right amount of heroic intensity.

Cecilia knew that she had heard the name Sinruth at least once before. It seemed like this particular hobgoblin was the common thread tying these various groups together.

"I agree with both Miss Elerye and Mister Kinandev. The longer we delay, the less chance we have of finding the remaining prisoners." Cecilia said, waving her broad-brimmed hat in the direction of the door. "Let us continue with our good work, and make a tale worth singing about while we're at it."

Assuming the party were now ready to continue, the bard leads the merry band of adventurers back to the entrance hall, dropping off the alchemist on the way. Not wishing to provoke the goblin family in their sleeping quarters, Cecilia opts to instead take a slightly more roundabout route. She leads the party down the stairs into the pit where they fought the drakes, before climbing the rope back up into the crypt above. Continuing up the spiral staircase, the eight adventurers soon find themselves back in the icy hallway where they encountered the chained and undead guard captain.

Whip still in her hands, the bard advances up the so far unexplored staircase, eager to see what daring acts of heroism she would be called upon to perform next.

Onward and upward! Whether the party is ready or not, Cecilia is eager to confront the ones responsible for all these evil deeds. :P

So it sounds like this alchemist wants us to head upwards, towards where the party encountered the undead guard captain. Any objections to heading in that direction, dropping off the dwarf on the way?

Might want to avoid the chamber in which the goblin family makes it home, though. Did Dayana encounter them while leading the injured back to the entrance hall? :P

I don't think we ever discussed who was holding the wand, so it looks like Cecilia will now retroactively have it in her possession.

Knowledge (Local): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Seeing the extent of the dwarf's injuries, the bard carefully retrieves the wand that Zerriksa had given them. Calling upon the magic stored within the small crystalline rod, Cecilia gently taps Adronsius on the forehead.

Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

With at least a few of the dwarf's injuries now healed, Cecilia was going to give Adronsius a hand getting back up onto his feet, only to then realise just how much blood still covered the alchemist's body. She awkwardly took a step back.

"It sounds like we have a lot more ground to cover." The bard said, putting the wand back into her pocket. "Let us be off. We can discuss any further details on the way.

The dwarf's description had been almost alarmingly accurate. Cecilia was impressed that someone in the process of being kidnapped could remember so many little details. The bard now had a pretty good idea of where they needed to go.

Assuming Zalindra shares this information with her, Cecilia takes a few steps back. The bard then turns to face the rest of the party.

"I see no easy way to disrupt these runes, so we should press onwards. We can discover the secrets of this place later."

With a casual wave of her hand, Cecilia opens the door with a single use of her Open/Close cantrip. Recasting her Dancing Lights spell, she then begins moving into the next room.

Finding very little of interest, she stops in front of the doors leading to the East. "Could someone check this door for traps?" She asks, looking back at the party.

Cecilia cries out in alarm as the centipedes swarm ahead of the party. After a few moments, however, she begins to laugh, apparently seeing little danger.

"Goblins, undead, and now bugs?" The bard says, her words filled with amusement. "What a day this has been!"

With a crack of her crimson whip, Cecilia attempts to squash one of centipedes with a single well aimed strike.

Attack Roll Vs Centipede (Black): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18

Enhanced with her magic, the bard succeeds in wounding the centipede, but fails to kill it. Looking to her left and right, Cecilia sees that there isn't much room for the party to manoeuvre. Not a problem for herself, perhaps, but certainly something to consider for those who favoured swords or shields.

"You think those runes are safe to walk on?" She asks, directing the question to no one in particular. "Because it's going to be difficult to kill these vermin if half of you can't even reach them."

"Based on what we've learned here, I would guess the Von Jallach Family are somehow linked to all this undead worship as well." Cecilia says with a serious nod. "But of course there's only one way to find out."

With her crimson whip still in hand, the bard begins moving towards newly opened corridor. Halfway there, she stops and turns back towards the rest of the party.

"Perhaps Sir Kincade and Sir Blackscale should continue evacuating the prisoners while we press onward?" Cecilia asks, her eyes falling upon the young barmaid who was still so obviously traumatised. "Miss Zerriksa, would you also prefer to leave? Or would you perhaps prefer to stay with us, and deliver some justice to the creatures that captured you?

Cecilia will begin leading the party down the stairs if they seem agreeable to the idea. She will also cast a Dancing Lights spell to illuminate things if it gets too dark.

Cecilia spends a few moments telling Dayana and the others about what had happened down in the underground chamber. Finding Zerriksa, rescuing her from the magic circle, what they now knew about the remaining prisoners, and the alliance between the Rivenroar Family and this band of goblins.

"So to answer your question. The original plan was to investigate the doorway we just came out of." The bard revealed, looking somewhat sheepish. "But that obviously isn't necessary now. Still, there are plenty of other places we need to check if we are to find the remaining captives."

Cecilia allows everyone some time to study the door. She then casts the cantrip Open-Close on the doorway, eager to see what is waiting on the other side.

Cecilia is troubled by the news the witch has just delivered to her. It seems that the Rivenroar Family really had embraced a life of unholy sacrifice. What promises had been made to them? What prize was worth the death and destruction that now took place upon their estate? These nobles had a lot to answer for.

Walking back to the pit of refuse, Cecilia points to the unopened doors to the south. "If these stairs really do lead back to the entrance hall where we first came in, then I believe that is where should go there next." The bard explains, attempting to answer Rhona's Copperhair's question. "We can link up with the others, and perhaps decide our next point of attack. I seem to recall there was at least one area we failed to explore up there. A doorway with a brass plaque, its inscription dedicated to the Rivenroar Family."

"Considering what Miss Zerriksa has just told us, that seems as good a place to continue our search as any."

Cecilia will wait for the others to voice their opinions, but will lead the way up the stairs if the party agrees with her decision. She will have her whip out, ready for danger.

Cecilia stretched out her arms and legs like a cat as the healing magic coursed through her body. Compared to the rest of the party the bard's injuries had been inconsequential, but she appreciated the witch mending the hole in her shoulder all the same. It felt good to be back at 100% again.

"You have my gratitude, Miss Zerriksa." Cecilia said, tipping her hat towards the old woman. She still had her doubts about the witch, but her aid was very welcome in this particular moment.

Turning towards the others, Cecila echoed the words of Rhona and Zalindra. "I agree that our quest should continue. Our vitality is restored and our weapons are still sharp. It would be a most cowardly act for our group to abandon these other prisoners when we yet have so much working in our favour."

Cecilia began to look around the room, seeing if there was anything of note apart from the now non-functioning magic circle.

Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

But the bard finds herself distracted. Something about what Zerriksa had just said a few moments ago.

"Miss Zerriksa." Cecilia said carefully, as if attempting to piece things together in her mind. "What did you mean when you said that Kartenix had been handed over to the family? Surely you were not referring to the Rivenroars?

Cecilia tilted her head to the side. Now that things had calmed down again she was more than a little wary of the woman they had just rescued. The bard had heard stories of Zerriksa, and none of them were good.

Still, they had come here to rescue prisoners. And Zerriksa had undoubtedly been a captive of some description. But that wouldn't stop Cecilia from keeping a watchful eye on the witch.

"Perhaps you can aid us then, Miss Zerriksa, since we have just finished aiding you." Cecilia said with a highly exaggerated bow. "We have come here in search of prisoners, kidnapped by the goblins who attacked Brindol. So far we have rescued the curator of the Hall of Great Valor, two of the three dwarves who stand before you, a young woman, and now yourself. We also encountered the guard captain, who unfortunately had been transformed into some type of undead."

Locking eyes with Zerriksa, Cecilia finally asked the question she had been building up to. "Do you know the location of any other prisoners? We suspect there is at least one more."

With a single finger holding back her bowstring, Cecilia hesitates as the leather-faced woman calls out to them. Was this magic-user surrendering? Or just trying to trick them? In just a few seconds indecision had seized the bard's mind.

But Morgrym had no reason to second-guess himself. And as the dwarf charged at their assumed foe, the bard decided that killing a possibly surrendering enemy was probably a bad idea. In all the stories she had read and songs that she had sung, the heroes always offered mercy to the villains. Even if they didn't deserve it.

"Don't attack her, Morgrym!" Cecilia shouts, temporarily forgetting to use his formal titles in the heat of the moment. A split-second later the bard realises that her words would mean next to nothing to the cleric, and instead starts running after Morgrym, hoping to interject herself between him and the woman before the two of them came to blows.

"Will someone who speaks dwarven please tell him to stop?" Cecilia shouts to the group behind her as she continues to dash forward, shortbow still in hand.

It was at this point that the bard realised something. If their enemy really had been hoping to trick them (and perhaps gain a few seconds to cast a fatal spell) then this would be the perfect opportunity for the leather-faced woman to strike.

Cecilia will attempt to run ahead of Morgrym, and then throw up her arms while standing between him and the spellcaster. If she can't do that (due to her Readied Action) then she will just try and get someone who speaks the dwarven tongue to call out and stop him instead.

Cecilia looked around. A few moments ago she had thought the party were all in agreement. That retreating and coming back at full strength was their best option. Now suddenly everyone wanted to stand and fight? Sometimes she just didn't understand people.

But despite feeling some annoyance at her advice being ignored, Cecilia couldn't deny how tempted she was to follow through with this new plan. She could picture it now. A desperate charge against a deadly foe, the outcome of such a battle uncertain at best. It was the kind of daring gambit she could have imagined the Diamond League performing back in the day.

It would probably also make a much better addition to her epic. "And then we retreated and carefully considered all of our options..." just didn't have the same impact as "And then together we bravely stormed the evil mage's sanctum!"

After a few moments of thought, Cecilia's thirst for glory triumphed over her own sense of self preservation. She would stay.

"It seems that common sense is very much lacking in our group." The bard says with an overly dramatic laugh. "I would be a poor storyteller if I didn't witness such a brave act myself, so I suppose I might as well stay..."

Pulling out her shortbow, Cecilia straightens out her broad-brimmed hat, adjusts her cape, and readies herself for combat. Javos, having had more than his fair share of excitement in the previous battle, decides to help escort the prisoners out of this dungeon.

As the group prepares themselves, the bard nods towards the door. "Someone should probably thoroughly examine that entryway. It wouldn't do us much good if a lock or a trap stopped our attack before it even began. Would it?"

I forget if we said readying an action before combat was alright. If it is Cecilia will ready an action to shoot the woman in the magic circle as soon as the door opens. Otherwise she will just wait for her turn, and attack normally.

"I am not familiar with the ritual this woman is performing, but a Magic Circle Against Good surrounds her." The bard explains, after a minute spent peeking through the keyhole. "It would likely make it more difficult for us to strike her down, as well as halt any charms or summoned creatures we might use against her."

Cecilia hesitates for several moments before continuing. "As much as I want to kick down that door and bring this woman low in a rain of deadly arrows, there could be other spells shielding her. I see no immediate danger, so let us evacuate the prisoners, and return to this fight with our full strength, just as Miss Mitheralia suggested."

Her course of action thus determined, Cecilia patiently waits for Aelion to be healed. Unless something else comes up, she will then assist the group in leaving via the newly discovered corridor to the south, assuming they choose to go that way.

"It does not seem righteous to just allow an evil mage to complete their work." Cecilia says, looking around at the rest of the party. "But at the same time it would not do us well to lead our injured companions into another battle."

Putting a hand to her chin, as if she were conflicted, Cecilia finally shakes her head. "I suppose we cannot act until we know more. Let us go with Miss Elerye's suggestion, and try to identify this magic ritual."

The bard will give Dayana a few moments to look through the keyhole and attempt to identify the spell. If the witch has difficulties, Cecilia will then make her own attempt.

Carefully stepping back, Cecilia explains to the others what she saw. Both the passage that might lead back to the entrance hall, and the strange woman performing the magic ritual.

Cecilia carefully puts Aelion back down on the ground. She doesn't like the idea of waiting here when there could be any number of goblins readying themselves in the next hall, but it seems they have very little choice.

"I have no more magic or potions, but Javos said that he came here with a squad of soldiers." The bard said, stepping away from the elf. "They might have some supplies. At the very least it would be a safe place to make camp."

Javos –still covered in the blood of the drakes– tiredly raises an arm and voices his support for this course of action, muttering... "Maybe those curs will finally be good for something."

While Morgrym prays, Cecilia performs a thorough search of this pit the party has found themselves in. Holding a sleeve to her mouth and nose, she inspects the bodies and debris that protrude from the dirt, though she is careful to keep her distance from the mushrooms. She uses a Dancing Lights spell to provide illumination whenever it is necessary.

The bard also peers through the keyholes of the two doors, trying to ascertain what might be waiting for them in the next couple of rooms.

With some assistance from Morgrym, Cecilia springs down onto the ground, fully prepared to plunge her rapier into the first monster she sees. But instead she finds the battle is already over. The beasts dead, and several of her allies moaning and groaning amidst the oversized fungi.

And this is what happens when you try to fight a battle without me. A small part of Cecilia selfishly thinks. I didn't even land a single blow during that skirmish!

Not understanding what Moryrym was trying to communicate, Cecilia chooses to instead retrieve the crimson lash that was her namesake. With her family legacy reclaimed, the bard then moves to assist Aelion.

"I could probably fight a dozen more battles and still have enough strength left over to carry you all home." Cecilia says jokingly in response to Ingras' commands, accentuating her words with a flourish of her red cape. "But I see now that the rest of you are not as tenacious as I am. Gather your belongings and help me carry Mr Kinandev back to the ropes. We will need to lift him out of here."

Cecilia will begin dragging Aelion back towards the hole the party entered through.

Thanks, Kaavek. Good to know about all of the options. :)

Also, glad to hear you're okay, Dayana.

A number of different emotions surged through Cecilia's head as events unfolded around her. At first she panicked, knowing that even a small amount of sweat or blood on Morgrym's gloves could potentially cause all of her skin to flare up in an allergic reaction. Then she was confused, not understanding what the dwarf was trying to tell her. And finally she was annoyed, Jathal's commentary proving to be entirely unhelpful.

But after a few seconds of dangling there, still entangled in the rope, the bard suddenly saw the cutting gesture that Morgrym was making with his hands. Realising that she couldn't hold onto her whip and use her rapier at the same time, Cecilia allowed the family heirloom to fall down into the shadows. "Sorry dad." She murmured beneath her breath.

With the dwarf cleric still holding onto her, the Cecilia unsheathed her rapier and attempted to slash her way free. The weapon was poorly suited for such a purpose, but the bard added a bit of her magic to the blade, giving it a little more cutting power.

Sunder Attempt Vs Rope: 1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 1 = 4
Damage Roll: 1d6 + 1 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 1 + 1 = 8

It was difficult to cut through something while you were suspended in the air, but Cecilia tried her best. Regardless of the outcome, she continued to sing her song.

It was through all this that the sorceror fizzled several spells,
He shook his fist, leaned right back and cursed the dragon well.
Up an icy column, the bard was climbing high
Pulling out the fabled sword that was stashed before his time.

Meanwhile, down in the pit, Javos was struggling to stand. Attacking that first monster had cost him dearly, leaving the cavalier burnt and bleeding. But he knew he had no choice. He had to keep fighting.

With the beast once again out of range, Javos marched over to the unconscious form of Aelion. Under less dire circumstances the human would have attempted to bandage the elf's wounds, but that would have to wait. Kneeling down, the cavalier dropped his longsword, and picked up the longbow instead.

He just hoped he could hit the monster amidst all this darkness.

Not exactly a good Attack Roll for Cecilia. Let me know if that is a success or failure, Kaavek.

You are not wrong. :P

By the way, you mentioned the debris on the map, Kaavek. What kind of Climb Check would a character need to climb up onto some of those grey stones? And how high would they be while standing on top of them?

Battle Map Female Human Bard (Sound Striker) || HP: 10/10 || AC: 18 |14 |14 || For: +1 | Ref: +6 | Wil: +1 || CMB: +6 CMD: 15 || Perception: +3 || Bardic Performance 0/7 Rounds Remaining ||

Looking back through the posts, it appears that both of those Masterwork Longbows have already been claimed. Javos will just have to do some mid-combat looting instead!

Seeing the battle was already well underway, Javos raised his longsword, eager to put down these bloodthirsty beasts. But there was a problem. His foes were currently hovering in the air, well out of the reach of his blade.

The cavalier had not been wise enough to bring a bow, but could see Aelion was holding one, the elf still lying battered and broken on the ground. With this information Javos determined that the most sensible course of action would be to retrieve the weapon and attempt to divide the attention of these monsters at the same time.

Marching forward, Javos began moving towards the torch-lit area where both Aelion and Zalindra had been attacked. As he moved, he called out to the red-scaled beast, raising his voice and beating his longsword against his chestplate. If the monster could not understand his words, then it would at least understand his intentions.

Still in the dim light, the cavalier readied his weapon. If either creature came for him, he would slice them in half. Almost as an afterthought, Javos called out to the others.

"Be careful! If these beasties can breathe fire, then it would serve us best to not remain huddled together!

Move Action: Move 20 Feet , Swift Action: Challenge Fire Drake (Red), Standard (Readied) Action: If either of the two drakes come into range, Javos will attempt to strike them with his masterwork longsword, using Power Attack to increase damage.

Effects of Javos's Challenge

1: The cavalier’s melee attacks deal extra damage whenever the attacks are made against the target of his challenge. This extra damage is equal to the cavalier’s level. Challenging a foe requires much of the cavalier’s concentration. The cavalier takes a –2 penalty to his Armor Class, except against attacks made by the target of his challenge.

2: Whenever an order of the lion cavalier issues a challenge, he receives a +1 dodge bonus to his AC against attacks made by the target of his challenge.

3: Whenever an order of the dragon cavalier issues a challenge, his allies receive a +1 circumstance bonus on melee attack rolls against the target of his challenge whenever he is threatening the target.

I might just have Cecilia cut through the rope next turn (or the turn after it, if necessary). There were two of them, right? So Morgrym can still climb down using the other one.

Also, if you're okay with the assumption that Javos has picked up a longbow and some arrows, then I have him use that, Kaavek.

Losing her grip on the rope, for a split-second the bard was in total free fall. But then suddenly the coils of the rope wrapped around, stopping a likely fatal descent.

Looking up, Cecilia caught a glimpse of Morgrym Dolgringrun. Realising the dwarf must have somehow saved her with his magic, she gives the cleric a shaky thumbs up.

But now the bard was trapped, completely entangled in the cords that should have allowed her to safely climb down into darkness. Twisting her limbs, Cecilia hastily attempted to free herself.

Escape Artist: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

But her fingers scratched uselessly at the rope, unable to find purchase. Dangling there, Cecilia contributed to the battle below in the only way she could.

"The wizard turned into a giant, and pummeled the dragon's hide.
The warriors swung their mighty swords, and even fought inside.
The chain swinging fatso, grabbed her by the toe
And saved the burly paladin from a horrible munching blow."

Infusing the words with bardic magic, Cecilia could only hope that the words were actually helping her companions.

Full-Round Action: Unsuccessfully Escape Entangled Ropes , Free Action: Maintain Bardic Performance (Inspire Courage]

I think that Cecilia is close enough so that anyone directly beneath her will be in range of her Inspire Courage Performance. Correct me if I'm wrong Kaavek.

EDIT - Of course I would roll a Natural 1. By the way, does anyone know if Javos is carrying a bow? It doesn't say anything on his alias, but I wouldn't be surprised if he has one.
