Bryn simply nodded, already having prepared himself and knowing what was being asked of him.

Bryn smiles at the King and returns the handshake. "No worries at all."

The merchant takes a seat, hiding his curiosity. He's been told about the King and has heard the rumors, but to see it in person is another thing entirely.

Reminds me a lot of Cerny, Bryn thinks.

Bryn lets a servant carry away his glass of wine, though not before taking one last sip, and takes a seat.

Roll to know how to act appropriately! Should you wait until the King arrives before taking a seat? Which seat should you take? The closest to the King? Does this even matter? Heh.

"That's good to hear," Bryn says to Leanidas. "I'm glad he's pleased with the snakes; the negotiations with the trappers we bought them from were difficult, but it was well worth the effort."

He smiles back at Yix's response. "That is true. Which reminds me, those trappers did have a saying." He looks as if he's trying to recall it, his hand moving as if to speed up his remembering. "Ah, yes. 'Take care not to focus too much on the snake lest you miss the scorpion.'"

He faces Leanidas. "Charming people. If your father ever needs scorpions, we can get those also."

Sense Motive DC 22:

His hand gestures seem to be too deliberate, and it pauses slightly every now and then. There seems to be an implication in his words.

@Yix:
A similar response on the same topic. The hand gestures declare the old Goao proclamation of presence, and a transmission of acknowledgement.

Bryn observes silence as Grace is said.

Afterwards, he begins to eat, sitting with the rest of the group and displays proper dining etiquette.

Oh, right. Now I get it. I've never thought about that. That's a very good point, because from what I know the rules just states you need an enhancement bonus and having the masterwork quality does provide a +1 enhancement bonus to attack roll.

To the rules forum! Edit: <Is masterwork sufficient to add magical qualities to an item?>

tl;dr - No, it is not sufficient. If taken literally, it requires a full enhancement bonus to both damage and attack rolls, which being magical provides as masterwork only gives attack roll. Basically, it needs to have at least magical +1.

Nope, Yix. A magic weapon is always masterwork, but a masterwork weapon may not always be magic. For clarification, there's a masterwork bonus of +1 to attack rolls and a magic weapon enhancement bonus of +number to attack AND damage rolls. However, the masterwork bonus and magic weapon enchancement bonuses do not stack so if you have a +1 magic weapon, you get a +1 to damage and attack rolls.

@Yix:
Thanks for the information, Yix. I'll probably know that last bit. Any background on the fraternity of assassins? May be relevant for me, but I'll leave it up to you if there's any connection or not there.

Bryn nods in Khelreddin's direction. "Sorry to see you go. Stay safe."

He likewise introduces himself to Sigghild. "Greetings, Madame. I am Bryn Goao, representative of the Mercantile. I assume you will be joining us on this mission?"

No worries, DM Wofguy. Just gonna play around some more.

Ilamin, that seems rather drastic. Maybe the King had second thoughts or needed him elsewhere. Though for more drama, he could have eaten something that was *gasp* poisoned! In the very room! Dun dun dunnn! And he managed to get medical help in time but is incapacitated and can't continue with the mission.

Also, sad to see ya go, Khel. Hope yer doin' alright.

Bryn returns the handshake firmly.

"Has anyone tried one of the appetizers? The chefs have really outdone themselves," he says in conversation. "The wine goes quite well with them too."

He addresses Leanidas. "If you don't mind me asking, how is your father, Lady? It's been some time since I've saw him last and news is always better from the source."

Associations are my house's specialty. They like to keep their fingers in many pots. We own prominent businesses so chances are that most everyone's done business with them in Amular, if at least indirectly. Noteworthy associations like with other noble families, important foreign relations, and government branches are also quite lucrative.

An association with Bryn can come in many forms. You could have met him during an important party, or perhaps your house has done much business directly with his house. Maybe your houses are allies and they send yours some nice goods every now and then in exchange for a few favors.

@DM Wofguy:
Of course, I don't expect Bryn to know everyone his house has been in business with,but if his house tried to send him as an ambassador, then Bryn would have prepared for the task by researching the other potential ambassadors, which can explain some familiarity with them.

House Volox, for example, seems to have a good potential candidate due to their esteemed military background and invaluable service.

Information about their habits, what goods and equipments they purchase, records (such as military records), and so on, would be relatively easy for House Ausum to acquire.

@Kraymar & DM Wofguy:
I'm cool with Kraymar recognizing Bryn. I'd ask for a perception opposed to disguise check, but if it seems likely that he's had dealings with him before, then he might know his main cover beforehand so none needed. Since you might know his true identity, time for secret message passing!

Bryn observes Leanidas' interaction with Kraymar and updates his mental profiles of her. He resists the urge to make a phallic remark about their weapons though he thinks Cerny would be amused.

He greets Kraymar. "Pleasure to see you again, Commander Hinstulkin." Bryn takes a sip of his wine. "It's been some time since I saw you last. You might be pleased to know that I have some new capes from the south. I've held some in reserve, very fine craftsmanship. You might like to see them sometime if what I recall of your tastes have remained the same." He nods and gestures at the other's cape.

@Kraymar:

Bluff (pass secret message) 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16 [opposed by others' Sense Motive checks to decipher if they suspect and roll for it]

Undercover. Don't tell anyone. Nice cape.

Huh. I didn't know you could put spoilers in the class/level fields. That makes things much neater! Also hope you don't mind me putting in the relevant things your character might know about mine in respective knowledge spoilers.

"Bryn Goao," the merchant introduces to each of you politely, "serving as the mercantile representative."

Local (about DC 20):
Your familiarity with recent economic concerns and changes in local merchant charters lets you recognize his name as a high-ranking manager in one the prominent businesses in Amular.

He quickly bothers himself with the Hors d'œuvre and sips from a glass of light wine, looking curious from time to time and enjoying the music.

@DM Wofguy:
Does anyone else get paranoid when I put spoilers in the middle of my posts? It's like a big sign saying 'secret actions here'.

And I just realized that the header under my character saying 'Human Spy' is, yannow, really telling. *throws that under a spoiler tag with everything else*

As he eats, Bryn casually takes in the room, inspecting and profiling the others surreptitiously.

Perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23

He's quickly finished with the appetizers, staying there only for a few minutes before he's attempting to engage the others in conversation, glass of wine in hand.

When Yix approaches him, he returns the handshake firmly and says, "Not at all. I quite enjoyed your music, in fact."

Bryn is a merchant. That is all your characters need to know! Huzzah for fun!

@DM Wofguy:
Unless of course you clicky these spoiler tags or check out my profile. Full crunch and fluff found there.

I foresee myself using a lot of this in the future to do 'secret actions'.

One of the men you come in with nods his understanding to the King's representative. He is tall and slim but his posture is straight and his manners elegant. His short brown hair is combed neat.

He is dressed in extravagant clothes, gold being most prominent with black undertones. It consisted breeches, stockings, shoes, the coat, the surcoat and a flat cap. Precious metals and gems have also been worked into the design of the clothing. It looks gaudy and very expensive. On his ring finger is a golden signet ring. Closer inspection of the seal would reveal it bears image of a black crane on it.

Nobility knowledge:
This is the symbol of house Ausum, one of Amular's noble families. A high knowledge rank enables you to recognize that this man is merely a representative. The house is known for sending trusted representatives in their stead in some economic and business matters.

He turns to face the other representatives.

"It is a pleasure to meet each of you," he says, smiling, brown eyes making contact with each of yours. He has a clean-shaven face.
