![]() When Brodert realizes that the runes were carved into the bodies, "Oh my! I have no idea. Maybe some sick cult is using the symbol for their own nefarious purposes. The Runelords are long ago dead. Only a handful of us even know their long dead language. And even then I am not sure I am pronouncing the words properly." Yes. Even poor Quink doesn't realize the AP is called The Rise of the Runelords. ;) ![]()
![]() Quink gets excited when Brandark produces the Sihedron Medallion, "Fantastic! Where did you find this? I know this symbol. It is the symbol of the Runelords of Thassilon. All of them." He pauses as the water begins to boil. "Tea? About ten thousand years ago, Thassilon was at its height. Powerful in magic and wealth. At any point in time there were seven Runelords. Each drew their power from the sins of wickedness. We refer to them today as the seven deadly sins, Envy, Gluttony, Greed, Lust, Pride, Sloth and Wrath. These powerful wizards used these horrible traits to rule and dominate others, including most all of giant kind. It was through the labor of these giants that vast monuments were built, the Irespan in Magnimar, the Cyphergate in Riddleport, the great Stovall Stairs, the Old Light here in Sandpoint and much more. But these Runelords would war amongst themselves, that is until their ultimate demise. They either destroyed themselves or Heaven above had had enough of their incredible wickedness. Either way they are a thing of the past, though fascinating as they may be. But why such interest in things long gone?" ![]()
![]() Brodert is at his home by early evening. He is covered in dust and smells like old man, sweat and urine. The odor in his home is worse. "The ones that found the Catacombs of Wrath. How may I assist you? Would you like some tea?" He sets to work on boiling some water and wiping out several cups with a dirty rag. ![]()
![]() As Brodert looks over the Sinspawns in the tunnels intersection, "The best I can put together, the Sinspawn were summoned through powerful portals know as Runewells. But I know of none that exist. Only an occasional mention here or there in some of the writings found near Magnimar and in a small cache of scrolls I found in a cave on a island to the West. As best as I understand them, Sinspawns are the embodiment of a type of Sin that was made Flesh through very powerful magic. And as Flesh, I guess they can be killed just like anything else made of Flesh. The Runelord Alaznist pursued Wrath in all its wicked forms. There are references in the scrolls of armies of Wrathspawns that she employed to keep order in Bakrakhan. Which way is it to these Catacombs?" ![]()
![]() "More than an Outpost, this was the borders of Bakrakhan. People think I am crazy, but the Old Light is not an old lighthouse. During the times of Thassalonia, the Varisian Gulf was not under water. Sandpoint would have been hundreds of miles inland. It was the land of Bakrakhan, ruled by the powerful wicked Runelord Alaznist. Of course all the Runelord's were wicked considering what they held dear," Quink ponders his bunny trail for a moment. The Old Light was a weapon that defended the Runelord Alaznist and Bakrakhan, probably from one of the other Runelords. From what I have been able to research, it seems that they often fought amongst themselves. But how did these Wrathspawns get here, and at this time?" ![]()
![]() Moving on. But will hold up after this post to allow Elektra and Kelvin to catch up, or add to the dialog. Quink represents a link to the overall arching story line. After a brief stop at The House of Blue Stones to sell the book, Quink and the party head into the Glassworks. Several workers were busy cleaning up the place. A couple of others were actually working glass. As the party reaches the tunnel intersection, they find Father Zantus with several Acolytes there preparing the remains of the creatures below for destruction. The Mutant Goblin was being held back. He tells the party that the Mayor wants to preserve the Goblin for the museum too; but they are looking for a jar large enough for the remains. When Quink sees the remains, "Oh my! I never thought this possible. I believe these creatures..." He pauses to look at the Uglies, "...are Sinspawn. They were shock troops summoned by the Runelord's from the ancient civilization of Thassalonia. They shouldn't be here." Brodert's face looks contemplative. "Maybe now people will believe me." Just to provide a time reference, this is the day after the party shared dinner at the Rusty Dragon with Father Zantus. The destruction of the remains would be this day. It is important for Quink to see the Sinspawn remains. ![]()
![]() Brodert Quink becomes utterly giddy, "Below the Glassworks? Come in! Come in!" Quink's home is a mess with scolls all over the place. All of them were written in Thassilonian. The place smells of old man and urine. Not a good combination. The old man looks for a pair of shoes, then a cloak. "You need to take me there right away. Twice jointed legs you say. I wonder.., the old man's thoughts trail off. ![]()
![]() "Seven pointed star? Ranseur?" All of a sudden, a series of bolts and chains becomes unbolted and unchained. The door opens, and a small human with a mostly bald head and white goatee, likely in his sixties or seventies looks more closely at the objects. 'Alaznist,' he whispers under his breath. "Where did you get this? I don't recall if the party took out more than one book from the Catacombs, or anything with the rune on it. The book in the Levitation room does not have a seven-pointed star on it. But to move game play forward, I will have Quink recognize the Ranceur. |
