Right, I'm back.

Picking himself up, water drains through Brik's armour like a sieve.

Ha, good job I'm in good company. That trip could have cost me!

1 damage to me from earlier.

Apologies for the delay. My laptop died and typing everything from my phone is incredibly laborious. I'll be able to catch up either tomorrow or Saturday night!

Same Azore, haha. Brik's a multi-classed Fighter/Cleric. Next level is Cleric time.

Sure said Brik, gently taking the sword from Shalagor, where he then swished it through the air several times.

Let's see if it performs any better than my current sword. I'm not gonna get too excited, though. The Society will likely want this and anything else we find down here. Still, I think that's it for now. Let's head deeper in.

Keeping his new sword drawn, Brik moved up ahead of the party, bringing his shield up once more as he made his way further into the tunnels.

Brik sheathed his Longsword and slung his shield over his shoulder, raising both hands into the air with a shrug as he cracked a hearty grin at Enrique.

We prevailed didn't we? Every battle we walk away from is a victory. Don't be so hard on yourself. You did well.

I can usually post on weekends, but this past one wasn't one of them as I was in London celebrating my 30th haha. Damn guys, I've hopped out of my twenties. I was also trying to roll in order of initiative. Round 1 I moved back, hoping for a better position, round 2 I stepped up and crumbled a skeleton and now I'm going to go for this skelly rotter!

Brik grins as Enrique speaks.

Hey Bones, don't look at him, look at this!

Lifting up his Shield again, Brik side swiped the Skeleton right across the face.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Peering to his side for a moment at Enrique's comment, Brik said nothing, but felt a slight surge of confidence as he brought his shield up one more time in an attempt to fell the undead human in front of him.

This'll provoke an AoO from the southern Skeleton, but I'll risk it.

So much for falling back... said Brik as he made his way next to Shalagor, instantly raising his shield to smash the skeleton in the face.

Good idea said Brik, falling back to a position enabling the party to make a pincer attack.

Well Uori, it's a pleasure to meet you. he says, holding out his slightly angled hand as he offered a hand shake.

I hope you don't mind, but I've got a few questions for you. The first is how much further will your pilgrimage take you? I'll be honest and say I've never come across someone of your appearance, though that goes for the majority of those I travel with too. Guess I didn't get out much eh?

Anyway, the second was a little more important to our mission. We're looking to further progress through this system, so if you'd be kind enough to share what information you may know, that'd be great! I'm hoping it's not the case, but there's a chance our guide won't return and so it'd be handy to know if there are any dangers or creatures you're aware of that we should steer clear of.

Then, I guess the last and more important question is, do you drink?

Who am I kidding? I bet he drinks like a fish!

Brik laughs to himself a little, though it's not clear why to those around him.

With the way he addresses us, I guess he might not be a remnant of Aroden's power after all. Still though, why worship a God no longer among us?

Turning to face the Gillman, Brik looks him in the eyes in an attempt to gauge the man himself and answers; We're here to investigate this Cave system, but with no guide currently, it's down to us to move forward, recording our findings as we delve deeper into the supposed secrets of this island.

We didn't see you as we came down that last tunnel and if you used the water system here he said, looking to the mans gills, we didn't hear any splashing or movement of the water either.

How long have you been here for and why do you pray to a God no longer with us? You're as much a mystery to us as we are you.

For some unknown reason, Brik continued to believe the man beside him was either a spirit or a memory of a man who once existed some time ago and did nothing more than keep an eye on him, to see if anything, what he'd do next.

As Sithiel became distracted mid-way through identifying the cape, Brik followed her and quietly said Take it, passing the cape to her before making his way to the waters edge.

Noticing the praying man, he had a strange feeling about the situation, almost as if this person didn't belong in this world or perhaps, time.

Curious, Brik sat down next to the man and stared out towards the centre of the pool of water, at which point he spoke out.

So this is what remains of your power then Aroden. This memory.

There's no other word for it. This room was empty of life when we first entered and yet, out of nowhere, a man now kneels before the shrine. This has to mean something, though I'm sure we're about to find out.

The followers of Aroden are long gone...

Not really having anywhere to store the cape he retrieved previously, Brik flicked it over his right shoulder as he looked around the room with awe.

I can feel it, Sithiel. Even for a dead God, this place still feels holy and pure.

Slowly circling the area, he briefly laughed as he rubbed the left side of his jaw.

You know, if Aroden was still around and I didn't admire Cayden for his accidental Godhood, I could see myself following this guy. This place is pretty impressive.

I picked up the cloak in the hole because initially I thought it was the bag Janira threw in, but yea, dunno what it was, but we grabbed that.

Having waited for everyone to cross the plank, Brik pulled it back across to the side the party now stood.

That should stop anyone following us.

Following through and down the tunnel, he found himself in the large cavern, curious of the carved inscriptions lined along the walls surrounding him.

The only character currently down there is me. Shalagor and the Grippli are the other side, Sithiel was asking you if she could take 10 to go down and back up the other side and the other 2 plus Oso are still the side we began from.

With Shalagor helping, Brik continued coiling the rope around his arms as he made his climb up to the Half-Orc.

Climb: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (11) - 2 = 9

Climb: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (16) - 2 = 14
Climb: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (20) - 2 = 18

It took him a considerable amount of time, but he finally made it up to the Half-Orc, grabbing his arm as Shalagor pulled him up the rest of the way.

Thanks, man. In future I'll wait until there's another way ahead.

Looking down the corridor he asked; Anything down there? I've made enough noise to alert the damn world...

Much appreciated. remarked Brik, ignoring Shalagor's impatience.

Following the Half-Orc, Brik waited for him to climb back up to where Enrique jumped to, before spending a moment to tie the rope around himself, as he prepared to climb back up the other side, this time wrapping the rope around his arms, so that if he fell, he'd be dangling and not plummeting all the way back down.

Well, time for round 2...

Climb: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (11) - 2 = 9

Hopefully with the rope making the climb easier he'll make it this time. Otherwise...

Yea, I've got it. Can't say I know how to use the thing, though!

Dusting himself off, he backs up a little, watching as Shalagor makes his way down.

The help's much appreciated. Ask me to fight and I can protect you all, but against a ledge in this armour? Forget it. he laughs.

Instinctively looking up as Enrique hopped overhead, Brik also answered; Yea, he's just patching me up and then we'll be right over.

Thanks for the extra rope! he called up to the Grippli as the rope fell down.

Man, this is so stupid. One of the flaws of heavy armour, I guess. Great protection, but too heavy to effectively climb, jump or move around with any sense of grace.

Thanks for the clarification, guys. Now, let's get out of this hole!

I know. It just wasn't said in the gameplay section. It was said just above your post Enrique, which is where the confusion came from. We walked along a passage to find a hole. That was the text, so before jumping down I asked if there was a way across or around and there was no mention of a walkway the other side, so I got Brik to jump (fall) down as it was seemingly the only way to progress.

"Is the hole the only way to progress through this system or is there a route around?" This was me asking if there was a route ahead/the other side of the hole, just in case it got overlooked.

It's odd. I thought there'd have been a way across the hole, but with no hint at anything the other side and no way around, I guess this is literally just to retrieve the bag. Small cave system.

Moving up to the bag, Brik picks it up and has a look inside, shouting up to the party once more; On second thoughts, don't bother. There's nothing else down here. It's just my wonderful self and this damn bag.

Are any of the items or potions labelled? I've got no ranks in spellcraft.

I'll put this down to blurred vision after a heavy session of drinking.

Brik knew it was a bad idea to climb down, but seeing no other way to progress, he hesitantly went down anyway.

The hole however, was far deeper than he thought it was and unable to find decent footing as he descended, he fell the whole way, landing sharply on the spikes below, as they made their way through the small gaps in the metal scales of Brik's armour.

S*#@...

Lifting himself back up and off the spikes, he called up to the others above un-enthusiastically, somewhat irked by the whole situation.

Well, I'm down...If you're following, be a little more careful than I was.

Checking it out, I think it was a mixture of assuming and mis-reading.

The tunnel was 10 tall and wide. The hole was 10ft across. I therefore thought you were telling us the hole was 10ft deep, so apologies, but I think what happened was I read "A large hole spans the cave’s width and stretches ten feet down. At the bottom of the pit lies a small bundle of cloth." clearly missing "the path".

Ah well. I'm down now and at least have some things in Janira's bag to put me back up to good health....when I can get to it.

Please try not to do that again. I would have tried to find another way if it was 20ft down as he knows how much his armour weighs him down by and instead he nearly died as a result of the 10ft difference. 2hp currently.

When GM'ing, mistakes like that can be unfairly fatal.

On it. says Brik as he sheathes his sword and puts his shield across his back.

Not the best armour to be wearing when climbing, but I guess it is only a 10ft drop...

Grabbing the rope, he tugs on it once or twice ensuring it's secure and then begins to climb down into the hole.

That's a shame, but not the end of the world. It just would have been nice to have the ability of Resolve.

Thanks for the feedback all. :)

Liberty's Edge

I saw that, but it doesn't mention spells. It just means you can't choose the vanilla Strength domain in addition to a Subdomain of Strength, where as I see related Subdomains to be intended to fully replace both powers of the vanilla domain. This is the issue.

As for your first point, I wasn't locking anyone out. I just wanted official ruling (no matter who gives it), but felt it was "more" for the Paizo team as I stated above.

And yes, it did tell me something. It told me to ask on here because there was nothing official about how it worked. Usually everything is covered with regards to ruling. It'll say "this cannot be taken the same time as x" or "if two Subdomains replace the same level spell, you may only choose one of them", but there's no such wording here. It all bounces back to the whole "you cannot have the vanilla domain and the subdomain" thing.

This is the problem. There is nothing here to officially state what I can or cannot do with my PFS legal character in regards to this, which is exactly why I need to find official ruling from somewhere.

Not only that, it'll help anyone else with the same question for future reference.

Liberty's Edge

Brik walks towards the hole and peers over the edge before turning to the rest of the group.

Anyone got a rope?

Liberty's Edge

Hey all,

This might be a very easy question to answer, but I wanted to get the Strength Subdomains of Ferocity and Resolve for my Fighter/Cleric later down the line, but at closer inspection they both replace a 6th level spell.

I've looked high and low but there don't appear to be any rules saying you can't take both and there's no ruling in regards to Subdomains sharing the same level replacement spells.

So, can I with this Pathfinder Society character take both the Ferocity and Resolve Subdomains, choosing which 6th level spell to replace between the two? Hero's Feast and Mass Bull's Strength are the two and I'd go with the Bull's Strength as he doubles as up front Fighter and Support.

I'm honestly just looking for the official ruling on this, because there is nothing to say you can or cannot do it, so I guess this is more a question for the Paizo team as I need my character to be 100% legal.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Fighter (Weapon Master)/1 - HP: 11, AC: 18, Touch: 9, Flat-Footed: 19, Fort: 3/8* (+5 to not die) Ref: -1 Will: 3/4* (*vs enchantment spells/effects)

This might sound weird at first, but although I don't have Use Magic Device at this level, Brik's build is Fighter/Cleric and although we won't reach level 2 during this adventure, I still have a +3 Charisma, so could use the Wand of CLW to heal others when necessary, with an okay chance of being able to use it. He was always planned as up front fighter and support.

GM - Is the hole the only way to progress through this system or is there a route around? Like, is this simply a 10ft deep hole, or is there a passage at the bottom of it? If not, Brik would stay up top. Trying to climb down there in his armour is possible but pretty useless.

Do as she says!

Taken back by the situation and the overwhelming presence of a Minotaur - A beast he'd only heard of in legend - Brik holds out his Heavy Steel Shield in an attempt to use himself as a Shield for the rest of the party (minus Janira) to enter the Cave behind him.

I don't plan on staying out here, so head into the cave and quick!

Smiling at Sithiel, he gently pushes her in behind him, only following once the rest of the party enter the cave mouth, helplessly watching on as the thrashing Minotaur pursues their guide with sheer rage and brute strength.

Make it, Janira. I'll do my best to protect these guys. Just make it back safe...

I just recently played in my first ever PFS game with Imojin above and am in Terevalis Confirmation game right now (just started), but would love to join you for Wounded Wisp and Consortium Compact.

This is the only PFS character I have, so it would be Brik and his level 2 level will most likely be Cleric as he's always been a Fighter/Cleric type in my head.

Edit: Ah, I didn't read down far enough. Have fun all. Shame I was late on this!

Just to update you - I just finished a PFS dungeon crawl on here (Master of the Fallen Fortress) and have added my character progression in my Alias.

It's already accounted for my starting gear in the wealth deduction, so although I'm still level 1, I currently have 2 Prestige Points, 1XP and 554gp. Anything this quest gives will just add to that.

Ok cool, I'll add the 1xp to my record (in my alias). Thanks man! :)

Thanks!

PFS Question - As that was my first time playing in PFS, do we level up from that or is it not considered long enough to get the 3xp to level?

I'm just trying to work out what our PFS characters get (Gold, items xp?) and what (if anything) we can purchase. :)

Seems a little harsh, no? We're Pathfinders, not Bat killers....even if some consider them Vermin.

Clambering to his feet, Brik makes his way downstairs with Balenar and the remaining party members, catching up to Patros as he opens the door, making sure to stay to the side of it.

Sorry Patros. I tried, but wasn't quick enough to save you a fall.

Yea, I knew about those, having made a Shocking Grasp Sorcerer who can blast out 15d6 with each casting of it at like 10th level.

The only character I'm next to is Patros, so I'll try and assist his Reflex by catching him.

As the Crocodile thrashed about in front of him, the wounds it suffered from himself and Patros sent it to its grave, when suddenly the floor collapsed next to Brik.

Seeing the Crocodile and new companion Patros fall through the floor, Brik swiftly dropped to the floor and held out his hand in an attempt to catch Patros, hoping to save him from the fall.

The others further out however, were left in the hands of fate.

CMB to grapple Patros: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Over to you, Patros.
