Brian thinks a bit and responds back to Calista
::"Hmmmm. I just assumed that how it was always done. Ive seen plenty O adventurers come an go round my farm but I never knew how they started. I just assumed that this was natural. Buuut if you think not..."::
Brian (who ate the food and drank the drink) seems to contemplate a bit, then speaks up towards Gryzzl'huuk in a level, even tone.
Ya know, after thinking about it a bit more, an a bit deeper, I dont think I want ta go along with this. I appreciate the gifts, an the excelent food an the hospitality but I think I am going to decline tha job position. An I mean to say so with the least disrespect but I am sorry. What abouts the rest of yous?
Brians voice is clear and level, there is no fear of the obviously powerful creature before him, and he seems to trust it on an almost instinctual level, even if he disagrees with him intellectually, thrus allowing him to speak openly.
Brian then looks down at his rifle, Hmm. Would ya be requiring your gifts back, I had grown attached, even named her tha Wind's Whisper, but I'd understand.

Oh dang. And here I thought I would be neutral, willing to go either way :/
Well if I have to be the deciding factor then lets say we go against this guys wishes. Time for a revolt and escape boys >:D
It should be interesting to see where this takes us \^_^/

Continuing his conversation with Brin An Im sure they do. Dang nusance is what they be tho. An whats a squidman? Ah, you mean him? Grizzlybear?
To Dr. Calista ::"Ah, a Doctor eh? Well Im a farmer, different professions I suppose tho yours would be more fancy. You one of them healing types or one of them other types of doctor.":: he gives a nod towards her direction in acknowledgement then proceeds to talk to her about the idylic farming lifestyle and his seven brothers.

Ya there be druids back home, cant say I much liked them tho. Sure there was the rare, helpful one but it seemed that most O them didnt like seeing all them plants caged up an kept tryin to "Free" em by animating them and sicing them on us.
Bad for business. Messy to clean up. Hated pumkins ever since >:(

Huh. That Travelers Translator is neat, I havent ever seen that before.
Also, having characters who dont understand each other can work in a face to face game, if you have the right kind of people who can pantomime, but in a game in pbp format it could feasibly take a weak to communicate a simple thought.
I always just assume that there is a translator effect that acompanies the teleportation effect ala Dr. Who. Its just one of those quality of life assumptions :)

THE FIGHT.
Brian lifts his rifle up to his eye and once more is about to fire when his target, itself is engulfed in flame.
Hoooo boy. he mutters to himself under his breath, then, out loud Alright! Which one O you lot did THAT? he asks the scattered group around him. Twas impresive, whatever it was.
Brian admires the accuracy of the shots as they head towards the spire, and quips up again once they get to the base.
Soooooooo.... We goin in there or what?
Right then. Lets do this...
THE MEAL
Brian sees a big ol plate of spagetti sitting in front of one of the chairs and he yells out Dibbs!! before sitting down and beginning to eat thoroughly, enjoying himself emmensely. Once he was satisfied he pulls out his pipe and begins to smoke it quietly as he listens.
Halfway through he calls out rather loudly Can you send me back home? Ill do it for ya if you send me back home aftawards. Can you promise me that?
SOMETIME NEAR THE END OF THE MEAL
Brian settles in next to the others and finally has a chance to introduce himself.
Howdy folks. Names Brisn Longarm. Im a farmer by trade from out near the Beltoy Kingdoms, ifn that means anything to you lot, I has no idea how far we may be from there. Maybe even a different time, now try an wrap your head round THAT! Well anyways, I gots a lot O family back home, 7 brothers, me Ma an Pa, an my Pa's Pa. We all work a farm together an it works well. Still, all I gots left O them is this pipe that my Pa left me, an somehow my Pa's rifle was here when I gots here., tho sumthin looks different about it. Not sure what...
Brin Walker wrote: "What world is this Golarion? There are no wastes where I am from. Deserts yes, but not wastes." He looks around at the others too wondering if it rang familiar to any of them. Its my world, tho the "Mana Wastes", if they are what I think they are, are a long way from hlme, an I dont reconize the date.
I figure being easily agreeable is best for me in this case :)

ROUND 2
Frustrated with his earlier blunder, How could I have messed up Pa's rifle already? Brian drops to 1 knee and, hands moving furiously, he begins to yank out his shirt, strip out the firing chamber, reset it in its place, the begin the process of re-loading a new bullet into the newly-cleared chamber, a process involving tearing the top off a pouch of gunpowder, pouring it into the chamber and stuffing a bullet in place.
Once he had finished that process be then stands straight up raises his rifle to his eye and aims at the giant scorpion once again.
I am keeping the misfire becauee I dont care to ret-con, this time.
Standard action to Quick Clear the rifle, move action reload with paper cartridge, 5ft step somewhere.
I notice that the map hasnt been updated yet, could you let me know if I am within 30ft PBS range?

GM DeathbySuburbs wrote: Longarm, I'm confused why you keep referring to your weapon as "pa's rifle." I'm certain that he never had a rifle like this. Ah, as for this, sorry I never clarified. Its his Grandpa's rife. I just kinda shortened it because I was too lazy to type out the full thing. Besides there are older cultures where you simply called all ancestors 'Father', and all descendants 'Son" (like in the bible), so we can go with that :P
Pa= Father, Grandfather Great Grandfather and so on.

maybe give it the reliable ehchantment for free? It would reduce the misfire chances down to 1, and 1-2 normally.
More thoughts on this tho,
1: Misfires are a way of limiting the power levels of firearms by targeting their reliability and action economy. It is especially apparent against 2WF gunslingers.
2: This game is apparently going to become more high powered and so removing the crippling effect might be a way to bring me up to line, power wise.
3: However I have yet to be able to determine where I am on that power scale, and if I am lower down or not.
4: My action economy is already pretty bad as I have to essentially take a full-round action to fire each round.
5: Misfires can become interesting story pieces in themselves and might be fun to keep, regardless of the reduced effectiveness.
I dunno, your thoughts?

I also just realized that my first roll of the game was a "1" and my first shot of the game was a misfire -__- This is going to be so much fun! @-@
Ha! Brian calls out, feeling a rush of excitement that comes along with shooting at 13ft long creatures who are tearing random strangers around him to bits. Its a rather unique feeling... But then he looks down, and there he sees within his hands his Pa's rifle, with his shirt jammed into breech chamber...
Hooo man... Pa's going to kill me when he sees this...
Dr. Calista, you get a wave of feelings of dread and impending doom come over the Telecom ;)

Brian watches as the head of the strangely dressed womanoid splits open and retracts backwards, revealing her face.
Huh. Didnt know it could do that.
Brian was already holding his rifle outwards in an accusatory manner but then receeds it, holding it out vertically and with the barrel pointing up.
Tis my Pa's rifle. Don' know how it gots here, an it never looked so beautiful before, but its here. he shrugs.
Round 1
Brians head snaps to the side as he sees something coming towards them from the side and he uses the scope on the rifle to bring them into sharper view.
We got 2 Black arse scorpions coming from tha west. Big suckers too...
What you figure we should do?
...I could take a shot...
Brian asks nervously while fingering the trigger while he studies the bugs
Ah, screws it.
Brian fires off a shot
Scoped Shot: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
BANG!: 1d12 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
+1/+0 BAB, +4/+0 Dex, +4/+0 Aimed Shot, +1/+1 PBS
Whoop!! he lets out a holler as he fires off what is certianly a wild shot and then he backpedals a few steps.
Seeing the android over his shoulder, he lets off a chivilarious thought
::"Stay behind. Dangerous. Caution"::
Brian will spend a move action to aim at the nearest bug (GS2) and then a standard action to fire. It appears that I am outside of PBS range. Lastly he will take a 5ft step directly away.

Brian gives you a blank look, mouth agape. Then gives his head a good shake Tha fantasy got away from me quick... he mutters to himself under his breath.
Then the second wave hits him and he is able to make a bit more sense out of it.
He then looks up at the group You lot gettin any O' this... eyes resting on the android and putting 2 and 2 together. Oi! Thats you! Your the one! he indicates to Dr Calista vigorously.
Hes not completely coherent, and Im sure that last comment could get misinterpeted ;)
Slight appearance ret-con. He has black, slightly greyish hear and a short cropped beard. I changed his profile pic.

I had seen that style of telepathy but I never knew that there WAS a standard way of using telepathy :p I shoulda figured. Shrugs.
Thats a neat way of going about it tho. My previous character was a telepath but he was also mute and he didnt eat, breathe, sleep or age. He didnt even bleed (fluff wise), he was truely a creature frozen in time :)
Edit: Further discission on telepathy.
Are you using Bold or Italics? I had used Italics before but I was told that it had made going back and searching for things previously said really difficult, probably because our brains are conditioned to associate speech with black and tune everything else out.
At least thats the reason I switched back then.

@Dr. Calista I have played a mute telepath psion before and it was a lot of fun :) have you thought about how you were going to format your telepathy?

PROLOGUE
Brian was sitting on the back of his Pa's plow as it got slowly pulled by the cattle in the hot sun, chewing on a piece of straw and thinking idly about last nights party. Glancing up to check to position of the sun, he calls out to his cousin, and his help.
Hey Billy! Looks to be about lunch time an Im starved! What say you head on home an rustle up some grub?
Sure thing "Boss"
The reply came with a cheeky grin and off he shot before there could be any retaliation.
Good friend. Brian thought to himself, but if I get any more mouth from that kid, Ill... but he never got to finish that thought as the next moment he was gone...
-----------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------
Coming to in the cold sand (Brian wasnt unconscious but thd trip had robbed him of his wits) Brian slowly begins to realize that there was something clutched tightly in his hands, and after opening up his eyes, he sees an ornate blue-and-black rifle in one hand and a satchel in the other.
While with one hand he absentmindedly slings the satchel over his shoulder and with the other he fingers the marvelous weapon and utters a quiet Pa's rifle...
After a few more moments of this, Brian rises up and sets the rifle in his hands and takes stock of his surroundings.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10 but apparently he is still exceptionally dioriented and distracted from his recent ordeal :/ first '1' of the game and its in the first post!!!
He then addresses the people around him with an almost-loud voice and just a hint of cracking in it;
Alright you folks. he indicates with his rifle, Which one O' you dragged me h-here?
Appearance
We should all do a 'first appearance' intro explaining what the others can see.
In Brians case, you all see a tall and slightly heavy set young male (5' 11", 145lb, 21 years old, brown hair, clean shaven) dressed in thick, blue overalls and plaid shirt with a few rips, tears and patches across them indicating constant use and few replacements. In his hands he has an exquisitely ordamented rifle in his hands made up of black wood, light blue metal and deep green highlights. He also has a satchel slung over one shoulder and later on you will often see him smoking a white carved-bone pipe in one hand.

The difference between earthbreaker (2d6) or dire maul (2d8).
How about Impetitus, or a derivative of that? Impetitus is the Latin and original word for Impetus, which means a moving force; impulse, an attack.
My thinking is that it is a large force of metal that, when swung, is not easily slowed.
1650-60; < Latin: an attack, literally, a rushing into, perhaps by haplology from *impetitus (though the expected form would be *impetītus; see appetite ), equivalent to impetī-, variant stem of impetere to attack ( im- im-1+ petere to make for, assault) + -tus suffix of v. action Edit: may I ask, why Horicalcum metal? It is literally the most expensive metal in the galaxy, akin to Adamantine 10.0, and is associated with illusions and slowing down time?
Why not make it out of stone (obviously less powerful, but very thematic)? Just my 2cp :)

Something I just realized...
For me, it will take a standard action to fire my rifle, and a move action to reload. As such, I probably wont get too much out of my weapon specal ability to aim as I will be too busy reloading, at least until lvl 3 where I get free action reloads :/
Ah well. I should still get some good use out of it ^_^

Round 5
Seeing as how his last shot was effective but not fatal, Brian takes a deep draw from his pipe and prepares to take another shot.
Bending to a knee, and with practiced ease he reloads his rifle, stands up and fires another telling blow that bites deep.
BANG!
BANG!: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
blood, guts and glory: 1d12 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
+1/+0 BAB, +4/+0 Dex, +1/+1 Enchantment, +1/+1 PBS
After he sees the results of his handiwork, he ducks back behind the wall and yells (through a mouthful of pipe);
Alright Brin! I slowed him down but now your up!
Move action, load paper cartridge, standard action fire, then 5ft step back behind the wall.

GM DeathbySuburbs wrote: Your weapon will need a name. If you wish not to be bothered with this, let me know and I will name it. My rifle kinda has 2 names. It is a rifle made of Vvalewood (pronounced "V") and it is named Wind's Whisper. I will probably use either name interchangably, or jus nickname it Whisper.
The Wind's Whisper is a long rifle, about 4' long with a black wood stock and jade green highlights. It then has Mithril-blue metal and wire along the body giving the illusion of the wind rustling through the rocks and grass.
Here is Joseph's character, Brian Longarm!
The build should be entirely done, all thats left is to continiously go over it to clean it up. (ignore the very last spoiler, that is an old character I dont want to delete)
But this should be my complete, finished submission :)
Also noticed we have a character named Brian and a character named Brin...
This should be interesting >_>
Wow. that was quick. Most people take a good day or two to go through everything. Your eyeballs must be peeling and your brain reeling after all that XD
Really sucks that I didnt get picked :( Ill be keeping an eye on this in case anyone drops, or if you need a disgruntled guard willing to help the rebellion and wish to use me as a guest NPC by all means! This character wont be going anywhere anytime soon :)

Havent really had a chance to read anything yet, so this post is going on blind :(
Afterwards I will read as much as I can and make adjustments :)
The door opens once more and this time it is one of the Dottari Guard that storms in. Almost immediately after his entrance most of the room quiets down. There has been a lot of events that have happened lately and the Dottari were rapidly gaining an ill reputation with the populace. Most of the patrons within the room seemed nervous, would the Guard stir up trouble? Was he here to arrest someone?
Most simply watched him, waiting for a cue on how to act around him.
The guard, a man of medium build and decked out in the Dottari uniform (which was significantly more muddied and wet, almost no gleam at all) and carrying a large shield slung across his back (and none would miss the sword strapped to his waist), this Guard looked around and saw all the hard faces.
The blazes! To think, I used to be liked by these people. Maaaan I just want a drink...
And with that he slumps over to the bar counter and sits heavily on one of the stools in front of Setrona, the look of a worn and weary man.
Complaining to Setrona (and loud enough that anyone listening in can hear) he says;
Here I have just gotten off of a looong night shift outside in the mist and the mud after having to deal with that... that... that madness outside. I just want a drink to soothe me and then go home to my bed. I am done. What do you have to drink? Whats strong?
With that most of the other patrons are significantly more at ease and a lot of the old hubbub starts to creep back, noise returning to the tavern.
We got ale. Even some of that Dwarven Sout. It should be quite heavy and will definitely make you forget your wearies. Im supposed to charge you 6sp for it Brian, but for you tonight? 5.
The guard looks up again. 5? sigh. Alright here it is. I really need it today.
.
After drinking a while others can see the Guards head start to droop, eventually dropping next to his 3/4 empty mug. Most would assume that he has gone.
Ah that tasted good. Ill just rest my eyes a moment. Maybe I can start to listen in to what the others are saying. I hate to think on what this is doing for our reputation.
Phew! He is done :)
And I am quite happy with him, he turned out well! ^-^
do note, I still have to select his last feat, spend 100 gold, and start dialoging in the gameplay thread.
As well, I diverged a little from your character sheet in regards to the Special Abilities and Skills sections as I find this easier to read. If its a problem, let me know and Ill adhere more closely to what you desire :)
Also, also. His backstory and personality are kinda merged :/
Sir Horde here, here is what Brian is currently sitting at. In about an hour I will get back to work on him and I should be able to finish in time :)

Brian totally did not see the dogs coming, not that it mattered much when they came bounding out to greet them.
"Puppies!" Brian calls out with glee, then he drops prone and looking expectantly at the dogs, hoping to be able to get close to them. He also takes out a field ration, separates the meat in it so as to feed it to the dogs.
Any chance I could do aid another on Silvanius's Wild Empathy check? Brian just wants to befriend them :)

Huh, pearls? Never done 3.5 before, what are they? I figure a potion of CLW would not go amiss for me! Aside from that, I think Brian would advise saving most of it (well aside from getting some good drink from the brewery! Stuffs importiant!)
After waking up Brian will try and find Avarthel, not for anything serious, just light chat.

"Hmmm. Guess I'll head out with the group going over to Serentien. Well, I'm off for the night!"
And with that he leaves but he does not go to the inn. Instead he heads over to the standing stones in hopes of finding the druid. Uppon finding no one he settles down for the nignt out under the stars.

"Hey Denlin, you up for it? Think we should? I figure it would be a good idea, but man! 45 hobgoblins is a lot! We had better plan this one well as not to get swamped...
Say, do you have any plans for this besides "meet Jorr and kill them all" or is that our department as well?"

No problemo!
Btw when night time comes around, I want to head over to the standing stones with the intent of sleeping under the stars and possibly talking to the druid if he's there.

"Ha! You are in luck Frodo! All you have to do is sit on your duffy while we clear some hobgoblins and you get paid for it! As for me, I am all up for it."
After listening to Silvanius he snorts a bit and replies "Humpf! Ya, you are right for sure! Women be quite the natural things for sure!"

"Ha! I say let's head over to the Brewhouse! After that I say we head on over to the bridge inn.
Hey Silvanius, you might want to try Avarthel the druid, I am sure he would take in Gooko. An I'll meet you there tonight."

*omnious feeling of dread*
"Denlin? You remember that instinct I got? Its tingling again...[/b]"
Ready to go. Gulp...

"Well thanks for hearing me out bro, I am feeling a whole lot better about it now. Shall we head back to the others?"
The two of them head back to the group
"We didnt see any hobgoblins but say, mind if I take one of those potions? I would feel a bit safer knowing I had one in a pinch."

I am not at full health, but I am defiently good enough to keep going :)
Side note, when I get to town I am buying a potion or two... Learned my lesson :P

7 charges of CLW for me? Wow! I feel Special!
"Haha! Ya I am great! That was an excellent fight! Blood pumping, steel flashing! It was a thrill![/b]" his words are full of gusto and confidence.
He then grabs his brothers arm and pulls him aside
"We will go scouting, make sure that none of them are still lurking around."
But he does not go scouting, instead, after getting out of earshot of the group, he turns to Denlin, none of the previous bravado remains in his voice. Instead it is replaced with a very shallow sense of fragility.
"Hey Denlin, buddy. I almost died there. It really shook me up. Im scared a bit." he says while looking at his axe with a bit of apprehension, then up at his brother with that look that a younger brother gives his older sibling when he is being honest and vulnerable, a look you have rarely seen before.

"Ugggh. That's the last time I leave without a healing potion. I've learned my lesson. I'm going to go to sleep now..."
Brian says weakly before passing out once again.
Rage ended, but I gotta say, it lasted juuust long enough. That and I am lucky for being alive :P

Finding his face in the dirt and a really bad headace forming, Brian was figuring that this was turning into a really bad day. Worse, he could feel his anger starting to wane and that was the only thing really keeping him going, well that and whatever brought him back to conciousness.
Brian delays again, bact to first initiative.

Sorry, I haven't been editing my hps :P
So I was at +5, then the spiritual weapon did 6pts to me. -1.
Round 8 stablization roll failed, -2.
Riel casts CMW on me in round 9. +2
So I am at +2 hps and can act in round 9 correct?
HP: 16/16, Grit: 3/3, PP: 2/2, AC: 15, T: 14, FF: 11, Initiative: +4, Perception: +9 (+2 in dim light), Sense Motive: +7, Fort: +1, Ref: +6, Will: +5, CMB: +3, CMD: +17 Paper Cartridge loaded (1-2 Misfire)

round 8 stablization roll
1d100 ⇒ 100
HP: 16/16, Grit: 3/3, PP: 2/2, AC: 15, T: 14, FF: 11, Initiative: +4, Perception: +9 (+2 in dim light), Sense Motive: +7, Fort: +1, Ref: +6, Will: +5, CMB: +3, CMD: +17 Paper Cartridge loaded (1-2 Misfire)
Just before he was about to reach for the weapon he had a brilliant idea! He would wait and "play dead" hoping against hope that the hobgoblin would get destracted by his allies and he would have a chance to get up and exact his revenge.
Soon Brian. Soon.
I delay my action until after the hobgoblins go, so now I am a part of the third group.
Hia slowpokes! Hows the weather on this side of the initiative roll?
HP: 16/16, Grit: 3/3, PP: 2/2, AC: 15, T: 14, FF: 11, Initiative: +4, Perception: +9 (+2 in dim light), Sense Motive: +7, Fort: +1, Ref: +6, Will: +5, CMB: +3, CMD: +17 Paper Cartridge loaded (1-2 Misfire)
Well thanks for the chance to ret-con, I was thinking I was backed up against the wall a bit there :)
I defently like the idea of delaying until after the bad guys turns have gone so I think I will do that. I dont need to play the hero (I already did that, thinking I could clean up the right side by myself and look where that got me :P) So I can play dead for a bit, It is so much better than the real thing I tell you!

HP: 16/16, Grit: 3/3, PP: 2/2, AC: 15, T: 14, FF: 11, Initiative: +4, Perception: +9 (+2 in dim light), Sense Motive: +7, Fort: +1, Ref: +6, Will: +5, CMB: +3, CMD: +17 Paper Cartridge loaded (1-2 Misfire)
So I am laying down, weaponless, and at the toes of a big baddie that managed to drop me... But at least I got 5 hps now!!! Oh ya, I also got a ghostly weapon hovering above my head just waiting to CDG me XD Good times...
Jolting awake, Brian takes stock of his surroundings. Face in the dirt? Check. Any enemies nearby? Check. Weird flying weapon still above head? Check. Weapon in hand? Negitave. Any allies around? Negative. Absolutely screwed? Triple-check!
Well no other real option except to grab my weapon and hope to kill this blasted hobgoblin before he really does me in this time!
Move action, pick up weapon, Standard action attack. No power attack, -4 for prone.
To hit: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Damage: 1d12 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
Notes.
Inspire courage wears off after this round.
prone gives me -4 to hit and AC against melee.
Picking up a weapon grants an AOO however I am lying down so I dont exactly have to bend over to pick it up :P Your ruling? (RAW is he gets an AOO on me)
Round 8
HPs 5/49
