I think it should have been more than 7 issues. The story seemed too rushed and overcrowded at times. The tie-ins helped, but, overall, I think the story needed a little more space to grow properly.

I'm curious to see if DC repeats what it did with Infinite Crisis and 52, and releases a novelization of the series.

To have a place in my top 5, the writer has to be able to draw me into the story deep enough that I no longer focus on what is going on around me. My top 5 are as follows (in no particular order):

Tolkien-In my opinion, one of the true masters of the English language.
H.G. Wells-Some of his stuff seems almost prophetic looking back on it.
Louis L'amour-I love a good western, and he's written some of the best.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle-He created one of literature's most enduring
characters.
Brian Jacques-A personal favorite when it comes to pure escapism.

Honorable mentions would be Jules Verne and Baroness Emmuska Orczy.

Based on one of the more recent Superman/Batman storylines, you would think that after Krypton exploded every bit of the planet landed on Earth. DC's premier heroes were finding the stuff everywhere and destroying it. With all that they collected, it's a wonder that Supes could stand up straight, let alone use any of his abilities that are far beyond those of mortal man.

I just read the Combat Style Feat for the ranger, and the two-weapon option says nothing about the two weapons having to be swords. I could easily see a ranger using two swords, but I could also see him using a sword and a dagger, two handaxes, two throwing axes, a sword and a throwing axe--there are several combinations available.

Still, I can see the point being made. While it does add a bit of flavor to the ranger mix, it would make a little more sense to give the ranger something with a more "nature" edge to it.

Personally, my ranger usually relies on his longsword. He does have a +1 adamantine bastard sword for when a non-magical sword isn't enough. He also has a regular dagger as a backup weapon and a silvered dagger for those pesky lycanthropes.

Okay . . . that is just all kind of wrong. :o

We did allow his character to be impregnated by an efreet once, then, by majority vote, the rest of us agreed to switch to a different game.

That is understandable. B.T.W., Is he a good artist? :D

Not really. I drew up a basic character template and he just draws the hair, clothing, and equipment.

The reason the rest of the world hates us is because the media tells us they do.(And no, I'm not picking on the media.)

I saw an interview with an American cameraman who was in Iran covering an Anti-American gathering. He said that at one point, the crowd was starting to get exceptionally vocal, and he and his companions were starting to get nervous. One of the Iranians near their van saw that they were starting to get spooked, and motioned for him to get closer. The Iranian told him that they didn't hate the American people, just the policies of our government.

I think in most cases, that is what other countries are referring to when the word "hate" is used.

OK, I'll do the tally now. Yep, that equals out to about 2 cents worth.

The group I used to game with ususally ended up with 2 or 3 female characters.

One guy always played female characters with the goal of her being knocked up by an outsider.

Another guy likes to draw his characters, and since he prefers to draw scantily-clad females, more often than not, he chooses to play female characters.

The third guy, who switches off as DM, will play a female character if it fits the character idea he has.

As for the rest of us in the group, we are more shocked when everyone decides to run a male character.

I saw where it was estimated that this bailout would cost the American taxpayer roughly $35,000 per person, so I came up with a couple of ways to take that burden off of us.

First idea-- we charge anyone who enters the U.S. a cover charge based on the amount of time you plan on staying here. If a bar can do it and still charge outrageous prices for drinks, then why can't the country?

Second idea-- we file a class action suit against those morons who run these big corporations. I saw where Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. Chief Executive Richard S. Fuld Jr. arranged millions in bonuses for fired executives at the same time he was begging the government for the bailout. If he did it, I'm sure there was other corporations who had executives doing the same thing. WE sue them and make them pay our portion of the bailout.

Third idea-- we taxpayers can illegally imigrate into Mexico. Since that is where several of the U.S. factories moved to, some of us could probably get jobs. If not, and we end up homeless, kicked back on the beach in Acapulco isn't a bad place to be homeless.

Back in the early days of my role-playing career, a good 25 years ago, I was playing a dwarf with a magical hammer and a love for strong drink. In one adventure, while working over his fifth or sixth jug of ale under the table, a death knight appeared in the midst of our party and began a battle no one wanted. As the thief and the wizard fought the enemy, the dwarf was making percentile rolls--01-50 meant I attacked; 51-00 meant I took another drink. I did score a couple lucky hits, but it was usually my hammer on the death knight's foot. Despite that, we actually won.

Is it just me, or does the skill Intimidate seem to be out of place as a Charisma skill? You would think that a barbarian would be an intimidating character, but most people that I know who have played one, always put their lowest ability score in Charisma. I understand why it was originally connected to this ability, but the ones who can make the best use of it tend to have the lowest Charisma scores.

It seems like it might be more useful if it was dropped as a skill and turned into a feat.

Blazing Saddles. That movie is wrong on so many levels...but it is hilarious.

The one movie that I'll ignore everything else going on just to see when it is on is "Sergeant York".

To Mr. Jacobs and Mr. Wertz--thank you for clarifying Paizo's official stance. I have no trouble waiting, and I have no doubts that the final product will, indeed, be much better than it already is (although that will be a tough task to accomplish.)

Thanks for all of the advice. Since there was basically no contradictory suggestions, it seems like we are all on the same page. I will do it as a 3.5 supplement, and keep track of anything that might be different from Pathfinder. I would eventually like to see it as a Pathfinder supplement, but like I said, it probably won't be finished untilafter the 2009 release date. That will give me plenty of time to make changes when/if Paizo releases a Pathfinder SRD.

Thanks again to everyone.

When working up variant classes and new races, what is the "official" stance for using feats and skills found in Pathfinder? My current project is a variant ranger, so I was wondering if I should have his skills listed as "Hide" and "Move Silently", or would it be OK to use the Pathfinder skill "Stealth."

Since my hope is to one day see this released as part of a 3rd party supplement, I was wondering how best to procede. For the record (and knowing the speed at which I work), I don't foresee the final product being completed until after the 2009 release of the Pathfinder RPG.

So, I'm guessing that no one knows the answer to this one. If I posted this in the wrong place, let me know.

I was on the verge of leaving role-playing scene behind when one of the players in my group showed up talking about Monte Cook's Book of Experimental Might. After checking out his copy, the fire was rekindled. While lurking through the shadowy halls of Monte Cook's forums, I stumbled across a thread that mentioned Monte joining with Paizo to work on something called Pathfinder. After downloading Pathfinder Alpha 3, I was completely hooked. When I saw that the Beta version was available as a free download, I decided to get it. Of course, to do that, I had to register. Then I discovered that I could now interact with all of you wonderful people.

If that last part didn't sound believable, it's probably because I only rolled a 4 on my Bluff check. ;D

The Warrior and the Sorceress starring David Carradine was pretty cheesy. There are also some rather interesting movies to come out of Hong Kong such as Zu:Warriors From the Magic Mountain starring Sammo Hung. Sure, some of the special effects are little more than creatively used neon lights, but they are fun movies.

One of the guys in my group works at Amazon, and he was telling us that 4E is one of the most returned books they've had. He didn't go into a lot of detail, but apparently, the majority of those who do return it are older players who buy it, unsure of what changes have been made between older editions and 4E, and are then disappointed in what they find. I'm not sure if they followed the progression from 2nd edition to 3E to 3.5, so I can't say which edition it has been compared to.

I used to like Starlin, but it seems like most of his stuff is basically the same story rehashed over and over. The only major changes he makes in a story is to change the characters based on the publisher. Despite that, I decided to check out last week's Hawkman Special. It was a major let down. If this Hawkman is Katar Hol, then what happened to Carter Hall?

I ran a kender once. After that, the rotation of DMs put it on the banned list. I'm also the reason that tinker gnomes are on the verge of becoming extinct as well.
