I don't know if this has been discussed already but I've recently been looking through the Rules Compendium released towards the end of D&D 3.5's life. I've realised (now that I'm not running D&D 3.5 anymore) just how useful a product it actually is and was wondering whether there are any plans to produce a similar book for Pathfinder... somewhere we can find the game's more important rules presented in an easy-to-reference format. Don't get me wrong, I love that the Core Rulebook is so comprehensive but, let's face it, it's a bit of pain to be lugging it around, isn't it? And we don't all have smart 'phones and tablets where we can download rules apps and the SRD.

Query about the Shard of Chaos spell...

The Duration line says "instantaneous (1d6 rounds)" but nowhere in the description is 1d6 rounds mentioned. Does anyone know what aspect of the spell lasts 1d6 rounds?

Many thanks

One word: awwwwww :)

You've said that characters have died in these adventures so I have another question: how do your players roleplay the deaths of their own characters and those who survive?

I've had two adventures (not AoW ones) in which a character or two have died and for the players it's like "oh well ... roll up the next one". There's no contemplation from the survivors (even if the deceased is a relative). I tend to work the mourning into my recap before the next adventure. I had one character who lost her baby brother away from home and didn't even think about how she was going to tell her parents when she returned.

As for the AoW campaign ... I've decided to give it a go :-)

I don't subscribe ... I get my issues of DRAGON and DUNGEON from a local newsagent. They still have issue 144 of DUNGEON in there with no sign of 145 and issue 353 of DRAGON (which I have) but no sign of 354. Unfortunately when I ask for an ETA, they have no idea :-(

Thanks, folks ... they all sound like great ideas and not tooooo much work ... lol ...

I've looked at starting with Encounter at Blackwall Keep but I like so many of the elements in the first two adventures that I'd like to run them if I can work out how to up the CRs. Thanks for your input, though, BlackFalconKY :-)

Hi folks. I have posted a similar question on the WotC board but had limited response therefore I was wondering if you had any ideas on starting the Age of Worms for 4th or 5th level PCs, merging with a campaign I've set pre-Time of Troubles in the Forgotten Realms. I'm after stuff like setting challenge ratings for opponents in The Whispering Cairn initially. Thanks in advance.

The Under Illefarn module also had a section with advice for starting characters at 0-level. Other resources include a bunch of pdfs published by Plot Device called Unlikely Heroes (found at RPGNow.com) which gives variants on Commoners and Adepts. And Emerald Press also published a pdf called Commoners (also found at RPGNow.com). While I've not actually implemented them yet, they both have some good ideas.

I'm 35...36 at the end of next month. Been playing regularly since 1988. First thing I played was an AD&D 1E adaptation of WFRP1's Night of Blood in which my (first-ever) character died somewhat appalling when, one dark and stormy night, he went skulking around on a wet roof and fell off!

Ran a couple of WFRP1 games then switched to AD&D 2E (was sucked in by the cool preview booklets that came out with Dragon at the time) and ran games in the Forgotten Realms.

Before D&D 3E came out, I alternated between running (though somehow never completing) the fantastic The Enemy Within campaign for WFRP1 and various AD&D 2E adventures in the Forgotten Realms.

Then D&D 3E came out and I returned to the Forgotten Realms whole-heartedly.

Then WFRP2 came out. I'm hoping to run that sometime in the next millennium. But in the meantime, I'll carry on running D&D 3E games in the Forgotten Realms.

As a player, I rarely get to play either of my favourite settings (sob!)...my group favours other games like Call of Cthulhu and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Guru? Thanks for that. I found it very entertaining. Please keep it up. I'm going to be bookmarking it as well.

Hi there!

A friend of mine and I are just wondering what the average age of a Dungeon reader is.
I said between 28 and 31. I am 34 years old and play D&D since the age of 14!
So, how old are you ;) ???

35 and I've been playing since about 17. While members of my current group range from 27 to 40-something.
