High folks, I have been struggling with some mental health stuff which has drawn a lot of energy away from things like these games. I hope to be back on the boards more regularly and playing again soon. If you don't mind being kind of patient I do want to continue playing but if it feels a little too disruptive I understand. Let me know.

Quinlan has been adventuring for a year or two. He doesn't really have a destination in mind so I could justify him being in any number of places.

@Nate Lange - Oh man I really don't want you to feel like I'm preventing you from applying. Your character concept seems awesome. I figured since you were heading towards mystic theurge we would be different enough. If it is okay with MJ I can submit a different character.

@Mj - Yeah that's what I was thinking. I'll switch him over. Shouldn't change too much in the fluff.

I switched out abyssal for Italian.
@MJ - Reading primal magic events in more depth I'm thinking it may be a little clunky for PbP. What do you think? I can easily switch to a vanilla wizard or back to exploiter.

How do real languages and fictional languages mix in this setting. I currently have mostly real languages but also abyssal and draconic. Do the pathfinder languages see similiar use as in golarion or are they more rare?

Oh wow, I don't know how i missed that, I will drop exploiter as primalist plays into his background more.

Im out. It was a fun excersise though.

I have so many ideas, based on current submissions it looks like a full caster would be good. Im really feeling an irishman I just have nailed down what he does yet.

Hey MJ! its Koran from the ol' apocthulhu. I'll get a submission up in the next few days.

Also I would love to see any amount of the Fierce Ones Graphic novel that you are willing to share. I got to see a few of the earliest pages and they were great.

How does he have wish at will with a caster level of 51? And how does he have the spells and revelations of a 20th level oracle + multiple final revelations? Do you have a break down of his ability scores? How does he have 12 feats?

Doesn't seem like it. This is their only post so they may have just forgot about it.
I have the first book so I think I'll open up a recruitment if anyone here is interested.

If you end up sending out PMs I would love one.

yes please

I'm travelling until the 24th so cell service is patchy, but I'll post when I can.

Sounds good. I'm travelling until the 24th and cell service will be patchy but I'll post when I can.

Honestly I've been on both sides of this scenario many times. The classic "you are not a jedi yet" sort of encounter, and this has been one of the most enjoyable and well executed smack-downs I have been in.

It's a hard move to pull off flawlessly.

I think I'd rather stick with Barnabas. It always feels weird to play a character someone else made.

@terquem Normally I spend some percentage of my wealth on items for my companion, but with automatic bonuses wealth is halved and those items don't exist.

I'm still interested with Barnabas and Scruff. Never got an answer on my above question about automatic bonus progression and animal companions.

Sorry, if it is Slow, but with it being the Christmas season posting will be slow until after the New Year.

of course, obviously during the holidays things will slow down, but after that.

how common are guns?

"And you Aphrashai, I hope never to find myself on the other end of that glare. It looks... uncomfortable."

this sounds fun, color me interested

I guess you're right that I haven't been very clear in my narrations. I'll be sure to put OOC tags from now on if its a 5 ft. step. I've just been trying to make the movements dramatic, mechanically i've only been moving the 5 ft.

Ashak, I just realized that attacking with two weapons takes a full attack action. You've been moving more than 5ft and making two attacks, which you wouldn't be able to do.

Hmm? I think I've only taken full-attacks after a 5 ft. step. Did I mess up the map somehow?

Barnabas is updated for Automatic progression. How does automatic progression work with companions? It doesn't make sense for them to get their own set of automatic bonuses but it also doesn't make sense for them to lose out on bonuses completely.

The animal companion would need to be adjusted a bit more. I would not want both tremor sense and dark vision, and the strength does seem high.

I'd allow a bull rush attack, which wombats are actually great at (even give +4 bonus to bull rush as a race bonus), make the animal small, but sturdy and powerful, reduce the claw attacks to d4, but maybe increase the Constitution.

Sounds fair to me, i'll get rid of tremorsense, doesn't make sense if it's a wombat anyway. replace grab with bull rush.

The ability scores were based loosely off of the spinosaurus, which is what I was originally going to use. I took the strength and dex down a little, and removed an extra natural attack. I'm open to tweaking though. Vermin companions seem strange to me since they're mindless but if that's my only choice I'll take it.

Would you accept this as an animal companion?

Badger Mole:

Badger Mole Companions
Starting Statistics : Size Medium; Speed 20 ft., burrow 20 ft.; AC +2 natural armor; Attack 2 claws (1d6); Ability Scores Str 17, Dex 13, Con 15, Int 2, Wis 12, Cha 6; Special Qualities Dark vision 60 ft., tremorsense 60 ft.

7th-Level Advancement : Size Large; AC +3 natural armor; Attack 2 claws (1d8+grab); Ability Scores Str +8, Dex -2, Con +4.; Special Attacks rend (2 claws, 1d8), grab

The other option is to just spam the light cantrip all the time , but that seems weird thematically for a dwarf.

hmmm, none of the animal companions on the PRD have darkvision. There are a few on d20pfsrd but they are all bugs, and that doesn't really feel right with my concept. I was originally going with a spinosaurus because I was looking for a fighting companion. My ideal would be something like a badger or a mole but I also need it to be combat viable.

Side note, I'm not a dedicated healer but I'm sure I can find room in my budget for a wand.

@terquem - any word on the animal companion?

Level: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
I'm thinking a druid with the Menhir Savant archetype.

HP: 4d8 ⇒ (7, 7, 2, 2) = 18

would a dinosaur animal companion be out of place in this setting?

interested. Does equipment provided by the arena mean we are free to choose any mundane equipment? or that you will choose our load-out for us?

I think I'm going to bow out of this one. It sounds really cool but I have too much on my plate. Good luck.

As Ashak prepares to attack the eidolon again it disappears. Quickly he turns around and prances across the ring to get behind Nathaniel. He spins and flips striking at the other knife master while he's distracted by erin.
Sneak Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32 Confirm Crit: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31Damage (pulled): 2d4 + 2d8 + 8 ⇒ (1, 2) + (1, 7) + 8 = 19 9

"Nathaniel, it's good to see you're still standing!"

Perfomance Combat (critical): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Ashak brings his blade up underneath Nathaniel's armpit. He winks and pulls his blade back in a stream of red, leaving a long shallow gash. He feigns several more strikes around his opponent in a graceful display, while he leaps into the air flipping heels over head and lands gracefully back on his feet.

4 people marked this as a favorite.

I think I'm scrapping my idea for a new one that I really like. Basically a little boy living out his fantasy as a knight. He's gonna be a little kid with a bucket helmet, trash-can-lid-shield, and wooden sword, maybe a little red cape. No special abilities but absolutely unbelievable/unachievable ability scores.

Ashak follows right behind Semsephiel, flips both knives, switches hands and slices in an X at his opponents chest.

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 Damage (pulled): 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 4
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 Damage (pulled): 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 4

Both kukri find flesh and Ashak quickly brings them back to a defensive position, wary of semsephiel's claws. "And mine as well."

Performance Combat (multiple hits): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20 Blood dripping from his knives Ashak makes a show of tossing his blades in the air while flipping and spinning about his foe, the blood arcs through the air before splattering across the ground. He glances back at Erin. "It would seem our queen has been struck a mighty blow, but she'll back on her feet, and more determined than ever."

Ok, I'm having a bit of a power trip here. Is there a limit on what ability scores can look like or anything like that? The idea i'm going for is crazy powerful force of nature so the physical scores could be arbitrarily high.

Alright my character is under way. It's going to be a pair of nature spirits (or demigods, incarnations, what have you). One is a bestial shapechanger, incredibly powerful and immune to magic, the other is tiny, kind, and quite sociable.

Alright, so who's turn is it? did evalee/Semsephiel actually go yet, or just make the AoO?

As far as I know phantom steeds can't attack.
As the strange horse approaches him Ashak ducks and rolls between its legs.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
He bounces to his feat and lashes out at Semsephiel on the other side.
Sneak Attack (pulled): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28 Damage: 1d4 + 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + (1, 8) + 4 = 14 7 non-lethal He strikes at the the back of Semsephiel's thigh, a wound that would usually be debilitating but instead just draws a stream of blood. "you would side with these criminals against our queen? Then you too must fall!"

the possibilities are overwhelming but I'll start working on something. I have a concept I have worked on some for a different project. Would a single entity inhabiting/using two bodies be too over the top? or is that okay?

the idea of this is interesting. I think I'd need at least a little bit more on character creation. A few loose limits as supposed to literally anything.

will we be using background skills?

I'm imagining a dwarven adept. An old grumpy hermit from the edge of town who occasionally provides some healing and other magical assistance to the townsfolk.

Ashak nods to his ally and leaps forward, somersaulting past Clyde the dancer rises on his other side.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19

He winks at Clyde and smiles wide. "Look behind you big fella" As he speaks Aphrashai appears on the strongman's other flank. Ashak holds his knives out wide and spins, landing in a crouch and strikes upwards. false flanker

Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Confirmation: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16 not quite
Damage (pulled): 1d4 + 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + (5, 5) + 4 = 17 = 8 nonlethal

Ashak's knife flashes at Clyde's neck but the Strongman is quick too and twists to take it on his shoulder. The knife leaves a bloody but superficial wound, to an experienced onlooker it is clear that Ashak was aiming for blood not pain.

Perfomance combat - first blood
Perform (dance): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
When his knife hits Ashak whistles and crouches back down, spinning low before tossing one knife in the air, switching on to one hand and then flipping back around to catch it. He freezes knees bent and knives raised in preparation for Clyde's retaliation.

Team West:
Ha, yes I meant Semsephiel. He rolled a natural 20 bluff so as far as Ashak is concerned his name is Clyde. A hideous laughter on him would go a long way. Can Aprashai implant Ashak with a false flanker before combat begins? A full attack sneak attack would be real good for winning and performance.

Team West:
We are easily the least impressive looking team here." Ashak makes a *this high* sign with a grin. "That gives us an advantage in terms of pleasing a crowd. The Clydes are the most impressive physical specimens. Taking one of them down would make us look skilled indeed, assuming we do it with style."

I think our biggest advantage here is going to be Aphrashai. The best will save around is a +3 I think. Most importantly though we want to be impressive.
