Following Mihara's advice, Ayreth steps back and offers some brute force of her own.

Howdy.

"Sorry for my ignorance, but who is 'Dry Wind in the Leaves'?"

Ayreth makes her way to the docks since that seems to be where everyone is congregating.

Did I make contact with Ominai? We don't need to play it out if there was no new info to be gleaned.

Ayreth's eyes open wide and her cheeks flush in surprise. "No, I didn't mean... the Thirsty Dryad... the inn, I meant the inn!"

Assuming all else is well, Ayreth will proceed with the Ominai Dream plan.

Ayreth ponders those ideas. "That's odd, not odder than anything else about our motley group, just that I'm not used to thinking of shadows that way. But it seems like we should take you to the Dryad and put you to bed."

"Oh, my mistake. They do seem rather playful. They weren't like that... before?" Ayreth is obliquely referencing Aibek's previous life.

"As you say, later is probably better. Wait, you can sew them?"

Well now, that's impertinent! A small bit of Ayreth's seriousness is lifted as she tries to slyly jab back at the shadows with her lightning-clad foot.

As they walk through the city addressing some of the most damaged structures, Ayreth voices her concerns and quietly admires Aibek's nurturing of the community. "Indeed, I am still thinking about the negotiations with the merfolk. Mostly because they did not seem the least bit remorseful or any less likely to use this tactic again. I still believe we made the right decision to end hostilities, but it nags at me. On a related note, I was thinking that we should inform the merfolk of the attack from their enemy. I am planning to try to contact Lady Ominai in the Dream. But I wanted to let you know beforehand in case I encounter any... difficulties."

I also have Make Whole and Stone Shape now. I thought they might be useful for major repairs and the damaged constructs.

Ayreth gestures in greeting, and barely resists the urge to poke at the peculiar shadows. "No, thank you, I am just hoping for some of Councilor Aibek's time. Although, do you know of any repairs we might help accelerate?"

Ayreth approaches, quietly waiting.

Aibek, is the odd behavior of the shadows observable by others?

Sounds good, let's do that.

Ayreth spots Aibek entering the smith's shop and waits for her outside, not wanting to intrude.

Ayreth wanders through the city for quite a while, helping when she can. She thinks about how they resolved the situation and if it was the correct one. There was a lot of appeal in the idea of retribution, but they chose a different path, mostly because of her. That made her feel responsible for any consequences that lay ahead. She wonders what Zhen would think. She was fairly certain that Grimrod thought diplomacy was just another name for a double-headed axe.

Thinking that they should make a good faith effort to warn the merfolk of their enemy's attempt on the ship, Ayreth plans to try contacting Lady Ominai in the Dream. But first, she goes to the Thirsty Dryad to let Aibek know what she is planning to do.

Ayreth rubs the sore spot on her cheek as she helps to check on the well-being of the crew and to wake any that are still sleeping. "I think our liaison did not go unnoticed by the enemies of the merfolk. Or that is quite the coincidence."

"No, no, stay here for a moment." Ayreth sends out a cloud of lights to stop the Gillmen from going overboard.

Ayreth wakes to the sight of Azri's back and wonders what is happening. While finding her feet, the voice rings in her mind. In response, she activates her aura and looks around for the rest of her friends.

Also, what is the approximate distance between Khalharum and where we are now? Trying to have some sense of where the borders should be.

Ayreth's voice takes on the familiar edge of two voices speaking in unison. "There are no amends to make on our side. As you said, we did not spill the blood of your people despite you chasing your battle into our home. We have come as peacemakers in good faith, even though your storm currently assaults our home. And yet, you treat with us as supplicants begging for scraps, fearful of your displeasure. Perhaps you mistake our wisdom in seeking peace for a lack of strength, but I assure you, that is indeed a mistake. We do not seek to be a second nation at war with you, but we will not be extorted."

"I am Ayreth, Councilor of Khalharum, and aye, we seek to peacefully end the hostilities between your people and ours, the citizens of Khalharum. Lady Ominai seemed to think it possible."

In the middle of the Atoll's inner bay was an obviously mortal made second island, almost invisible from beyond its shores. Two small piers extend from either side, and a pavilion with a circular table is set up in the middle. A tall flagpole extends behind the table, on the edge of the artificial island.

Ayreth looks back at the others with the "We're good with that?" look. If she receives the all clear, she will take a seat.

Ayreth highlights:

---Granddaughter of Zhen Halfblood, daughter of Thark, paladin of the dragon god.
---Ensnared by her mother, a hag, rescued by Zhen. Unsure if her mother actively hunts her.
---Haunted by her father's spirit, he will sometimes exert himself in times of stress.
---Keeps a pet cat, Emmitt.
---Occasionally has visions.
---Recently picked up the skill of dreamwalking.
---Her confidence has been growing, but the circumstances of Nigrum's death shook her.

Perception of others (not responsible for accuracy or lack thereof):

---Aibek: her buddy and would like to help with their sadness and loneliness.
---Azri: a buddy, but also a little scary, the "unlivingness" freaks her out a little bit.
---Mihara: not just a buddy, Mihara has that big sister vibe, that self-confident aura that Ayreth aspires to.
---Saiga: very early, but... he thinks he is smooth, smoother than he actually is.

In spite of the uneasy feeling and the goosebumps on her arms, Ayreth steps forward to speak. "We are Councilors of Khalharum; Aibek, Mihara, Azri, and I am Ayreth. Your forces currently assault our city because of threats made during an altercation just off our shore. After speaking to your Lady Ominai, I believe that we acted in haste, thinking your people the aggressors. While our defense of Khalharum remains resolute, we have come here to seek a peaceful resolution rather than an escalation of this conflict."

"The one the merfolk asked us to show we mean to parley, the one Aibek has been working on during this voyage."

"Do you think we are supposed to fly our flag there?"

I'm trying to decide how much I agree or disagree with the premise. On one hand, I feel like we have had decent camaraderie from the beginning. We lost our extrovert when Selena disappeared, and our Nigrum's harem joke when he died. I think people have reciprocated well when interactions are initiated. Just sorting through my thoughts.

Kinda hoping getting through this - and the clash of character perspectives - will maybe help interconnect our characters into more of a team as it feels a bit odd that they've been together so long but are still so divided and feel like they're still mostly in individual bubbles rather than a team of any sort.
