There *are* questions in the survey about the narrative and pacing of the adventure which leads me to believe they are taking feedback about the non-crunch side of things, so if you want better pre-written adventures I would still run the module as written and leave feedback about the writing.

So is there a break in the system I cant think of from lifting the ability score requirement? It just seems... pointless. I cant imagine how a ten strength wizard spending a feat (and locking himself out of any other archetypes until he spends three other feats) to use a longsword and half plate is that disastrous. Even if you can just retrain them in later it still means you don't have your character concept started right away and... it's just needlessly complicated.

What's the reasoning for requiring 16 in the primary stat? I remember it being stated a cleric with next to no wisdom would be viable. Strange that a rogue who spends one feat on clericdom has to be wiser than a pure cleric.

Not saying anything that hasn't already been said here, but adding in my voice that "Don't make Orcs into apes" is pretty much the very first thing anyone attempting to make a fantasy rpg not racist should do.

I really hope the generic backgrounds are more... generic. I don't see why blacksmith has to be one, because then you need a background for any kind of craftsman background. A general one that let's you pick out different skill feats and trained skills would save a lot of space and not make anyone have to wait for a another book that has "stable-hand".

The stat boosts seem variable enough to not be a problem. If someone refuses to take blacksmith just because they really really don't want to take strength or intelligence despite the free boost then they can live with that.

Any chance space catfolk are statted (or even mentioned in another creature's description) here?

That's kind of disappointing that a page was spent, and a full character art, on an excessively high check that for some groups is flat out impossible to make.

Heck, my group couldn't make the DC 20 check to find the Downside Kings hideout.

Just so I'm clear, the only way to meet with the Level 21 gang is to pass a DC 30 diplomacy or intimidate check, right?

Erika Mona mentioned Hero Lab for Starfinder at the Starfinder demo in the Twin Cities.

So no mention of multiplayer as a stretch goal and no actual stretch goals listed past the initial 500k one that I don't care about.

But for 140 dollars a miniature (doesn't specify whether it's one companion or any companion, hopefully you can get Amiri), a cloth map of the Stolen Lands, an *actual* Pathfinder adventure, and a poster by Wayne Reynolds? That might be worth it.

Edit: Apparently MP is still on the table as a stretch goal. I will wait to see if that actually happens and if the Kickstarter kickstarts close to it I will totally back it.

Naderi makes for a pretty great love triangle with Shelyn and Urgathoa.

To be fair, Erastil's original Kingmaker article was uh, not friendly towards the deity. It got retconned hard though but I think it's fair considering most of the problematic stuff Paizo did was early on (the sexist Erastil era, pretty much).

I like Mana Wastes too. Honestly, with the exception of RK and Absalom I'd prefer adventures in all of those areas to the places you don't like as much. Still, Mummy's Mask is in Osirion, and I'd prefer a Mummy's Mask crpg to Kingmaker or a completely original adventure (For the first game. I'm cool with original stories but this is the first real step into video game territory and it should be as Paizoriffic as possible).

Re: Glorious Reclamation I only got to run the first book and read the others and they are certainly not on the same moral level as the Cult (I'd still call them LG as a whole) but I wouldn't say they were in a completely positive light. It actually annoyed me because I wanted a purely evil campaign and it felt like letting the Glorious Reclamation win *wouldn't* have been a victory for the forces of good. The world would be a worse place if they won how it is presented in the Adventure Path (And even just their attempts lead to some pretty bad stuff happening independent of the evil the PCs commit)

Unfortunately, unattractive or unconventionally attractive characters that are significant and not ugly villainous types can be hard to find enough as it is, let alone trans ones.

Sounds like a reason to write even more trans characters to me.

I found some comments from the studio on the Reddit announcement about representation (Unfortunately, unsurprisingly, I found it by sorting by controversial).

It's reassuring stuff to me. Rather, reassuring in their intentions.

I am not sure how they want to combine pause and multiplayer, but maybe they will come up with something smart. Well, making it singleplayer from the beginning definitely helps... :D

Wait, was it confirmed no multiplayer at all, or did they just mean it was a campaign and not an MMO?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Well then I hope the market for isometric real time with pause rpgs is a lot larger than I think it is

I sure hope the pathfinder iconic would make sense in one of the most iconic pathfinder adventure paths.

My last hold out is multiplayer because honestly if it's a single player game with no iconic companions and a system that barely resembles the actual game then what am I playing it for? River Kingdoms?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Nope. In the reddit announcement they said real time with pause. Combine that with pregen companions that aren't the iconics and my interest is rapidly fading. Cooperative or bust.

Depending on your actions you could be at odds with them at the beginning (and at the first part you are basically taking the law into your own hands) but I believe if I remember it had more to do with the Ranger archetype that gave you a Hippogriff companion at level 2.

Oh yeah personally I'm not a huge fan of flight in general let alone letting a PC have a constant source of it at second level, but the player's guide blog post for the anniversary edition said they would be a poor choice because of their role in the adventure but from my reading I don't see why their role in the adventure would make them a poor choice. It seems about as good a choice as just being a Korvosan Guard which the blog *does* recommend.

As for the conflict at the beginning that seems to be an issue any lawful character could have.

I see James Jacobs recommends not playing a Sable Company Marine (or Hellknight) but on my skim through I could not see why. The Sable Company is disbanded late in the adventure and several high-ranking members or imprisoned or killed. It really sounds like it would just create more motivation for the player and the only drawback is they would know the layout of the headquarters.

Is there some major problem I'm missing? Has anyone ran or played a game with Sable Marine PC? Did any significant changes to the plot have to be made?

This was what I've been responding to.

As for whether the rest of my initial post in this thread is irrelevant, I'd have to agree to disagree.

Charisma is both force of personality and appearance. That's from the core rulebook. Yes, there are creatures that are hideous but have a strong personality, thus they have a positive charisma score. Yes, Lashunta women are described as charismatic and commanding. They are also described as ideal and beautiful. Lashunta women are not an example of physically unattractive creatures that have high charisma because of their strong personalities. Bringing up the existence of charismatic physically unattractive creatures is irrelevant to criticism of Lashunta women because that is not what they are.

Alot of female elves are drawn to be physically attractive. They have no charisma bonus. Your point?

"Though the women look like idealized elves or humans -save for the twitching antennae sprouting from their foreheads- their men are squat, hairy, and broad-shouldered, with a fierce and confrontational demeanor."

Lashunta are also described as "beautiful and commanding". So I was wrong, the Lashunta women are described as having a commanding presence. I was not wrong in that they are also described as being physically attractive, and it's not just pretty artwork. They look attractive and act attractive, and that is why they have +2 Charisma.

Of course it should be noted that this was in the Inner Sea Bestiary and omitted from People of the Stars, so it is entirely possible it was retconned out.

When you cast an offensive spell such as fireball, does your invisibility break when you start casting (so it can be interrupted with readied actions) or after you finish casting it?

I guess I just don't think having the females be the bright colored ones very subversive. Different to real lizards, sure. Not very different when in gaming bright colorful tends to equal female and drab solid colors tends to equal male.

Unless the final race is super off the walls crazy awesome this will be my first character if I ever break away from DM'ing, because as a half-orc and Turian enthusiast this seems like my jam.

Glad for no lizard-breasts, but aren't the males in lizard culture usually the bright flashy ones?

If the wings are the specialty, that should make it abundantly clear that the focus of the business is not food!

I mean, if by de-emphasize you mean covered with a tight form-fitting shirt then yes. Though I've only been to the one.

It's reasonable that Abrogail would rain hell upon Cheliax if she loses, but I don't really want the one evil Adventure Path to end in the greater good being achieved.
